Billy the Kid was able to read and write and spoke fluent Spanish. Brushy Bill was illiterate and did not speak very well in Spanish. Brushy Bill also claimed he was a member of the James gang which was also false.

Because the Alias person Billy the Kid was a wanted man with a price on his head, it makes since he chose an alias not connected to his earlier names. However, that person in the photo of 5 of the rough riders is obviously the same person as the person in the popular tintype of Alias Billy the kid. If one of the images was flipped and put together with the other then the stance, head tilt, dropped shoulder, neck size, everything...I believe, would match. That man in that photo in my opinion is Alias Billy, Alias Brushy. All of his names were aliases. He had more than one thing over his head. In order to be in the US he had to still be in hiding. I also have another suspicion. Maybe the Governor never honored the original pardon because if that Governor accepted Brushy Bill as Billy the Kid then he still would have to have been arrested. There were other crimes attributed to BTK. Also, if the story is true that the person killed in 1881 at Ft Sumner was part of a sheme then Brushy Billy aka Billy the Kid would have been charged for his role in that too. Maybe the Governor felt it best to let sleeping dogs lie for the safety sake of an old man.

Y’all throw Pat Garret under the bus for a sketchy story, but you take the word of Morrison about Brushy Bill to be gospel.

Just watched your video and just received your book. BTW...as you so noted in your video, we may be distant cousins. My ggrandfather was Gaston Eggbert Edward's. You never know...lol. Anyway, I love history, I love your book and your videos and I'm a believer in the story of Brushy Bill. My father just passed in May at 93 yrs and 10 Mos of age. He did not look older than 60. He knew so much about his own life and told many stories before he died, but he would sometimes forget the names of important people in his life like General Milly and Strom Thurmond while telling a story. That is normal. Brushy Bill was the same in recounting his own life experiences. People should not use that to discredit him. I appreciate your content.

The more i investigate 🔎 and the more i study n the more i research n the more debunk the more im convinced that pat Garrett did NOT kill the kid and that brushy bill was indeed billy the kid.... simply do your own research!!!

I absolutely love all the neigh sayers that point to various supposed facts that don't even belong together to a day 1 investgator. Like how Roberts was supposedly entirely illiterate they say, and yet in the same breath they say he got his extremely detailed, seemingly insider info by reading all the readily available source material from all the survivors and eyewitnesses to the various incidents. Like it was all a google search away in 1949 for an illiterate guy to suddenly collect from all over new mexico, etc, while not leaving hico, tx. Which is it, was he illiterate or secretly literate with access to materials that at that time and day he would have had to travel all over the place to obtain as there was no cetralized collection. And who compiled and read it all to our illiterate hero? There are many other things like this that poke holes in our non believers theories with only the application of common since, yet they continue to push these narratives. Did he get every bit of it from the radio? Or the non existent tv documentaries on Billy the kid that never aired in the 1940's? Always want to ask them this when they state these claims, yet i don't bc the answer is obvious to these things. Daniel Edwards(alias billy the kid channel) and also Brett Hall, are my absolute favorite youtubers on any subject, not just Billy the kid. Like you said, it's their honesty and integrity that shines out from both of them. Rare to meet people that don't just skip the hard questions or try to twist narratives that supposedly tarnish their various claims. Instead both confront them head on time and again, going down to the smallest details of various events, pictures, details, reports, accounts, archives, etc to show time and again the facts that make the commonly held claims against brushy bill's authenticity are wrong for more than 1 reason each. I believe if the case on his identity as Billy the kid were tried in open court, with these 2 guys as the defense team defending Robert's, or the prosecution team attacking the narrative that the kid died in 1881(depending on which way the case were tried), that any jury in America would conclude beyond a reasonable doubt that the immense circumstantial evidence, when taken as a whole, and with them cross examining anyone clinging to the "historical narrative", proves conclusively enough for any court of law, that Brushy bill and the kid were one and the same person. Case closed (sorry for the run on sentences😂). If they ever teamed up to do a documentary or anything else it would completely change the landscape on this topic. Really amazing researchers, presenters, and fantastic all around journalists/youtubers. All the respect in the world for these two and i wish like hell everyone else on all other contentious historical topics took their approach and their integrity to model after. Could do alot worse.

if you look at a brushy bill photo vs the billy the kid tintype, you'll notice they have unique matching eyebrows where one side has a sharp arch on one side and the other side is straighter however the photos match each other.

The way she describes the little things that never came out...the hat with water, the kid racing on his horse shooting while hanging off the side. Absolutely spell binding stuff. Several people, including Pat Garrett, said they doubted the Kid fired on Brady. They said the Kid hated Matthews and was most likely trying to kill him. One thing Brushy said that nearly all the novelists missed in their "research" was that there were 2 black fellows, present, one named George Washington, who played guitar, the other played the fiddle. This was later confirmed and, as I recall, even George Washington said the Kid was shooting at Matthews, not Brady. Brady was struck by 8-9 bullets, and it's unlikely that even the ones who actually shot Brady, knew who did it. The man was dead before he hit the ground and good riddance.

Great content, thank you. Have you checked out Brett Hall and his TH-cam channel Portal of Wisdom? He has several videos that go in depth on William Morrison's tapes and notes. Makes side by side comparisons of Brushy Bill's statements and the bs novels about the Kid, then shows the historical data that proves that where most of those novelists, like Burns and Garrett, either embellished or straight up lied... every single time Brushy Bill Roberts' statements were more accurate and detailed. Everyone has to come to their own conclusions because we will never have something like DNA to confirm it definitively, and we need to always be cordial to everyone else. I, personally, harbor no doubts that Brushy Bill was, in fact, Billy the Kid. He had too much first-hand knowledge that, while it stood in direct conflict of Burns, Garrett, etc... His statements are supported by empirical evidence in almost every instance. I hope you'll take the time to look into it, it's very impressive.

Nothing will be enough for a lot of naysayers short of verified DNA. With that being said there are somethings that can be settled. Modern forensics can take Brushy's bones and determine age of death to settle the Ollie P stuff. Also Billy the Kid had a unique injury where he was shot somewhere between the hip and knee and the bullet traveled to his shin. Dig him up if it's him the bullet should be in the casket.plus the leg bones would show the injury. It's not definite DNA but it's as close to full proof we can expect to get this far removed

This was a good video. My question is how brushy Bill roberts claimed to be at Lincoln Country War 1878 when it started before he was born in 1879. With that, he would have been 2 years old at the end of it in 1881.

You were very thorough and covered a sizable amount of interviews and information. There are photographs of many of the people who were involved with this. As famous as Billy the Kid was, is there any mention of attempts to photograph his corpse like so many other dead people/outlaws in those days?

Im watching this vidio you read that the girl said billy didnt go to maxwell to aften so maybe thats because he didnt trust maxwell.for a good reason know that he died there.maybe he knew maxwell was a rat and some of those other were rats maybe garrett pay them off or scared them garrett was a killer just like the men he was hunting.a bushwacker killing people from behind thats a coward but in those days thst was a safe way to do it like cops today who plant guns on died guys who cant talk.

Dan- fantastic information and well appreciated research- I am in no way an expert on Billy the Kid just an avid reader lover of his history and searching for the truth - I have so many questions - let me start with two- Is it true that Brushy Bill claimed to be left handed, as was at that time Billy the kid was believed to be until the tin type photo was realized to be reversed and the Kid was found to be actually right handed-? Two- Brushy Bills age - how old was this cat - if The Kids birth was right 1859 - he Waukesha be 91 years old in 1950..right?

Well you know that old saying it's not the life you live it's the story they tell after you're gone can I have listened to a lot of documentaries with first-hand accounts that claimed that Billy the Kid is still alive and I believe they're better or was still alive after the shooting rather

Brushy Bill was not Billy the Kid. Him and Frank Dalton (who claimed to Jesse James) knew each other for many years They were often pictured together at wild West nostalgia events in the forties. The were con men looking for money. The guy interviewing Brushy in this recording was part of it.

Another easy way to determine if a photo is reversed or not is to look at the buttons of the shirt or pants. Invariably, they are on the right side for men.

just because Pat Garrett's story of how he killed Billy The Kid is a lie does NOT mean he didnt kill him. It just means he lied about how it went down. Besides, how many times has Billy the Kid "escaped" and still returned to Lincoln County. So you telling me he got away from Pat Garrett that night and never returned or ever be heard from again. What most likely happened was Pat Garrett executed Billy the Kid like a coward (shot in the back or makes him get on his knees and shoots him in the head) then makes up a story about self defense and how he was forced to shoot the Kid. END OF STORY!

I fell asleep half way through - what happened? I'm kidding. Dan, your series was well thought out and included much information. Thinking it through, I'm not convinced Brushy Bill is Billy and Brushy could've learned details through 1930's articles or knowing those like Silva and Lobato who were around. It'd be interesting to learn more about Brushy's history, where he was in the 30's, 1900's and in the 1880's even. Collins points out that Garrett told Billy to head off to South America and it''ll all be taken care of. I think BIlly did this and I support the model that Billy died in the mountains of Mexico.

One thing about all of this that doesn't make much sense is the fact that after all that time he was still trying to get a pardon!? I don't think this guy was Billy the kid. His focusing on that stupid pardon seemed to me like he did it to try to make his case more legitimate for being Billy the kid. See see look, I'm Billy the kid because I still want my pardon. It's dumb!! After all that time, no one knew who he was anyway, so what difference did it make for home to pardoned. No one was after him, he wasn't being chased. He had obviously lived out the rest of his days in peace, so why focus on a pardon after all that time. It's just dumb, only a dumb person would keep up with trying to do that. No one cared at that point years later. It doesn't add up that he would still be focused on some pardon. No one knew who he was, so who cares.

I do believe he was the kid . There's no statue of limitations for murder. Without a pardon he could be put in prison and hold him Till the execution is carried out. With out a pardon

I'm curious about what Po said they lied about? To protect the integrity of a woman. Was it a lie of omission? Did they know that BTK was there visiting Garrett's sister in law, but just didn't tell that part? Maybe BTK thought that word got out about it, that's why he didn't go back there that night and stayed at Silva's home. If he really was that cagey, it seems highly unlikely that he would have went to Maxwell's house that night.

Now I know why they can never make a good documentary on BTK, too many conflicting reports, not a single consistent story, people who were supposedly there can’t even agree on the type of gun used. That being said, this is by the far the best breakdown of the varying accounts I’ve ever heard. Outstanding work. You made me a believer, once again, in the old Brushy Bill Roberts. I researched this for years when I was a young kid and could never decide if he was the Kid. But when you argue from this perspective, analyzing the accounts, taking human nature into account, and weeding out the obvious liars, it shows the official story is no more credible than Brushy Bill’s. But the thing that did it for me where the two people Brushy mentioned, who just happened to be the only two friends of the kid who actually took part in the burial. Also, the name of his then girlfriend, which is what paulita Maxwell said. That’s case closed for me. If Brushy wasn’t the Kid, he had to have been a witness. Any chance those tape recordings from the interview exist? I wanna hear Billy’s old timer southern accent lol the kind that tells stories but you don’t understand half the words.
