As someone who worked in the oil field for 5 years they did a pretty damn good job making the rig, not the a perfect example but really fuckin good and better than 99% of rigs in games

It’s not a bad game. I managed to complete it in an evening. Being Scottish it’s great having a game with so many Scottish accents and having people who talk like I do.

I actually prefer that the subtitles say the same thing I hear, I learned english with subtitles and you get the meaning of the words by the context. If I hear some words and read something different, most of the time, my brain is going to not register the words I heard and only focus on the subtitles I read. That way I don't learn so It doesn't help me at all
"Are you guys getting immersed yet in the world?" Yeah! I'm loving the rig environment (the tartan carpet, scuffed and stained, not laying flat in some places. The bits of rust and wear on the signs), the writing (we learn so much about Caz in the canteen conversations, and none of it felt like info-dumping), and of course the voice acting!
"Get your man upstairs on the case" is the best variation of "pray for me" I've ever heard. Also, it's was a good detail for Roy to already be stiff while draped over the ladder. When Caz touches his neck and starts lamenting, I thought he was going to say something about his pulse, despite the player character having thick gloves/no way to feel for one. But they put some thought into it!
For what it's worth for the non Scottish folk, Scots is recognised as a language by European Charter for Regional or Minority Languages, not just as slang ❤
This game has surprised me, it’s been pretty good thus far and the supervisor is surprisingly not stupid. Not a nice or good person, but not stupid. Though his greed is the reason the entire issue occurs in the first place so there’s that. Nice graphics and there’s a bit of gameplay too, I’m immersed and enjoying myself for sure.
I agree, though I'd wager it was more his anger / temper than it was his greed. We don't know whether he's all that greedy at this point, but he was certainly pissed when he took that phone call and it seemed like he made a rash decision because of how angry he was.
I would actually pass away from joy if John played Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines on this channel. It's such a classic (best played with the unofficial patch so it runs well), and I'm positive he would love the game's vibe and have a blast playing it!

This game's got some potential, I'm curious to see how it turns out. Tasteful use of the yellow paint tactic, I'll note. Properly fits in with the oil rig. I also like the monster, so far. Weird fleshy membranes definitely give that The Thing vibe. I hope we see what the infested people look like soon.

A little awkward that the subtitles try to translate Scottish slang/terms into plain ol' English, though. Would prefer if they just transcribe them as they are.

honestly the holding down buttons thing with the ladder, the instruction appears and disappears so fast that even upon rewinding i barely caught it, they should've given a bit more time for the player to register what it's asking for

I dunno why but it's amusing me that the subs are "translating" the Scottish. I recently watched a movie called the Sentinel and it kinda reminds me of it, with a crew stranded on a post in the middle of the ocean. It wasn't very scary though. Hopefully this game is.
Really like the atmosphere of the game! The setting and charaters felt suitably industrial and the feeling of loneliness is really well-made. I feel like the writing was more heavy at the start to introduce characters and atmosphere, while afterwards they were IT'S TIME TO RUN NOW. It was wildly entertaining to see the ~ English translation of Scottish (a bit weird as well that UK English wasn't the default), sort of reminded me of that sketch with the two Scottsmen in the lift :D The slang is highly understandable from context as well, so?? Anyway, thank you very much for playing! I don't have a lot of time nowadays, but it's always a delight to enjoy your videos -- your wit and honety are truly a pleasure.

I’ve literally never seen a game have Scots in it before, apart from like an odd stereotype in Lara Croft here and there etc. I was actually kind of proud to hear our slang lol, and cool there’s a game about the aberdonian oil rigs. I never see Scottish culture represented on a big scale like this it’s so brilliant man 🥲

Finally have some time to watch this... the voice acting is really good, I was honestly immediately immersed just listening to everyone. These characters talk over each other and interrupt each other and it sounds extremely natural. Video game conversations are typically Character A speaks, Character B speaks, Character C starts to say something and cuts themselves off in an awkward way/with weir inflection because they know they won't finish their line as Character B will interrupt once you press the A button. You know? And it's fine in games really, but it also makes ones like these with good acting/direction really stand out. Ignore me, lol theater kid AND a writer. But this is great so far!

Really impressed by the dialogue and voice acting, the conversations sound really natural and emotional in the quieter scenes like the flashbacks or around the 1 hr mark. Also the absolute snot rocket that shot out of John's nose when he sneezed was, as they sometimes say in Scotland, shockin' 💀
The game has flaws and can use some more gameplay elements, but the setting, voice acting, writing, and graphics make it a good time. Looking forward to watching your playthrough, John. *Don't forget to play Outer Wilds (I'll get you one day 😅)

Voice Acting & Environment Design are absolutely cooked in this! Amazing work on those elements alone! Oil Rig setting for a horror game is inspired & one of the handful of believable avenues to try to emulate the isolation of The Thing in a semi-modern alt setting

So far I'm liking the atmosphere and tension, they don't show too much. That's good horror. Really nice. And that you keep moving forward into new spaces, progression that goes with the story unfolding. So far so good.
I love this game so much that I had to rewatch to look at the characters closely before they changed. And I appreciate how John's gameplay isn't edited too much. I watched other players too but their experience is completely different in a negative way, and they made me feel left out too

It's a fun game so far, nothing over the top and the voice acting is great.

Really impressed by the dialogue and voice acting, the conversations sound really natural and emotional in the quieter scenes like the flashbacks or around the 1 hr mark. Also the absolute snot rocket that shot out of John's nose when he sneezed was, as they sometimes say in Scotland, shockin' 💀
The sassiness and sarcasm is on 11 this playthrough 😂 I love it and the game too!

Wow, I haven’t thought about Monstrum in ages. Was a pretty fun game from what I remember. And I do get similar vibes from this game so far.

The game has flaws and can use some more gameplay elements, but the setting, voice acting, writing, and graphics make it a good time. Looking forward to watching your playthrough, John.

liking this so far! the visual, voice acting, sound and pacing are all nice. i agree with you that the less reading makes it more immersive, prefer this than the long notes explaining lore. looking forward to see more! also my phone randomly died yesterday, still isn't fixed so i've been bummed out but i was awaiting your upload and this cheers me up. thank you for the video, john! :]
Voice Acting & Environment Design are absolutely cooked in this! Amazing work on those elements alone! Oil Rig setting for a horror game is inspired & one of the handful of believable avenues to try to emulate the isolation of The Thing in a semi-modern alt setting

Every time I think of VTMB 2 I want to cry, but the thought of John playing the original brings a (happy) tear to my eye. Just imagining the wonderful sass and snark.
Your opinion on this game is the one I was most curious about, so I'm psyched to see you play this. I think you might be more critical of this game than most other youtubers I've seen gush over it, but regardless of what you end up feeling about it I hope you enjoy!

Nice shirt , John. This game looks clean . No muddy texture work here. That guy with the stashe working on the crew deck strongly resembles Gary ridgeway, scary!
So far I'm liking the atmosphere and tension, they don't show too much. That's good horror. Really nice. And that you keep moving forward into new spaces, progression that goes with the story unfolding. So far so good.

I love this game so much that I had to rewatch to look at the characters closely before they changed. And I appreciate how John's gameplay isn't edited too much. I watched other players too but their experience is completely different in a negative way, and they made me feel left out too
