Feel free to keep it on at all times. - Carnby might "huff and puff" but there is no stamina limit so running is also limitless. - Almost every note is voice acted. There is a button to start/stop it listed in the bottom left in the relevant menus. I think its "X" on xbox controller (my memory is failing me atm) or space on the keyboard. The game looks great and the animations are fluid and natural (which often isn't the case in survival horror). I have no idea what my final verdict on the game will be, but from what I've seen in John's playthrough you kick ass at your job. Congrats on the launch!
In the very original alone in the dark game, when it comes to character selection and their special characteristics, for Edward it says “has a double barrel gun” and for Emily it says “unknown father” 😂.
Wow, the bit where the note talks about "the goat without horns" had me IMMEDIATELY thinking back to the original Gabriel Knight, and then just seconds later John says "anyone play Gabriel Knight"? Dang dude, I already knew you had excellent taste. "Cabrit sans cor", which is French for "goat without horns", was a phrase that came up a *lot* in Gabriel Knight 1, and no doubt what brought up the memory. I strongly remember Tim Curry's voice asking everyone if they knew what it means. And the meaning is very significant!
The pages etc being voiced acted brings back alot of old Alone in the Dark transcript memories. Also Emily Hartwood was in the original. I do not blame you for not remembering her though. She ends up only playable in the first game, absent in the 2nd game and the 3rd game she's kidnapped and you have to go rescue her from Old Western Ghosts. Edward Carnby became the face for the franchise.
I first found out about Jodie in the tv series Killing Eve (with Sandra Oh as the 2 main characters). She is an absolutely amazing actress so I’ve also been looking forward to see her performance in this game. Looking forward to your playthrough!

Man, I loved Gabriel Knight: Sins of the Fathers, and listening to the lady talk about the gris-gris brought it all back. It'd be super cool to see you play Gabriel Knight on this channel, John. It has some elements that aged poorly, as you mentioned, but nothing your charming and insightful commentary can't handle. Also, Tim Curry voices Gabriel, and it's a performance more people should experience for sure.
The other thing I wanted to say is "Gabriel Knight 3: Blood of The Sacred, Blood of The Damned" is one of my favorite games of all time! I played through it as a young teen and I have so many fun memories of it. I would LOVE to see you do a let's play of it. That would honestly make my year.
I remember my dad taking the absolute piss out of the original game due to how ugly the graphics looked when we first saw it. Looking back, I remember feeling anxious over the beginning sequence in the attic. Sure, the graphics didn't age well at all, but the beginning section was surprisingly intuitive for its day. I mean, they programmed barricading to prevent enemies from spawning into the room!

Totally get the want to play the character that most people probably didn't pick, but it's still fun to watch you react to what happens to David Harbour! Also I'm watching a TH-camr that decided to use the OG skins (like the polygonal skins from RE2 Remake), which was funny at first but I'd prefer to actually see the actor, so you're playthru is a win-win for me! Edit: You should totally play Gabriel Knight on the channel! I had the same thought when they were talking about the voodoo stuff, using the same terms even like "gris-gris" and "goat without horns." It absolutely hasn't aged well with the voodoo stuff but I think the game overall is still cool to go thru
Blessed to see this on my feed! I just got a new treadmill, so I plan to walk while I watch this series. So far, I really enjoy this game and its aesthetic. Its not ULTRA GRAPHICS, yet if anything it really elevates the vibe of the game. I honestly am digging it so far.

Im so happy you picked it up so quickly! The fighting seems kinda clunky and it looks like controlling the character might be a little off sometimes but I looove the atmosphere and how it takes me back! Just watch Gab's first vid on this, looking forward to John's now. Gab had a point, the story is about Emily's uncle, that really ties her to the story. Also they both have a gun from the beginning. Wow the cutscene is completely different then the one Gab got when Emily opened the door.

I've never seen or played any of the Alone in the Dark games so I AM SO EXCITED FOR THIS!! So far the game seems so cool and I can't wait to see more. And it would be awesome to see you play Gabriel Knight! I know rather recently they did a rerelease of it! Though I do think the older pixel art was more charming lol

I had the same thoughts about this being reminiscent of Gabriel Knight! I do hope you'll play that game on the channel sometime, it's a good one despite the stuff that really doesn't age well, haha The note at 14:50 really reminds me of Gabriel's grandma Rebecca Knight and the store clerk reminds me of Willy Walker.

Was going to ask if you had any past experience with the series but that was promptly answered in the first minute! I'd *almost* recommend going back to try the original games, but... yeah, probably don't. They're a relic for their time, more impressive for what they were at the time than any fun to play now. Really love to see the channel come so far and while I know a longform survival horror game is a bit "back to basics", I'm happy to see it unedited and enthusiastic on Channel #2. Glad the new format's working out for you so far!

Yeah I've been waiting for him to play any Gabriel Knight game ever since i've went haywire and peruse John's large back catalogue lol I see him play these games like King's Quest series, Kathy Rain, The Charnel House trilogy, Catlady, Lorelei and countless others and made me fell in love with the point and click adventure genre. One of my favorites genre playthroughs by John.

It's an accurate description, but it feels weird calling Alone in the Dark a franchise considering how the series has mostly consisted of a bunch of different studios trying to reboot it.

a lagniappe is like a little extra gift you get when you buy something, more or less. which is funny that the collectables are called that. it makes it seem like Carnby doesn't think he's literally just stealing things, but that they're "gifts" for his time there

I've never seen or played any of the Alone in the Dark games so I AM SO EXCITED FOR THIS!! So far the game seems so cool and I can't wait to see more.
And it would be awesome to see you play Gabriel Knight! I know rather recently they did a rerelease of it! Though I do think the older pixel art was more charming lol

I might be in the minority but I'd love to see John play some classic point and click games from the 90's, that is if they're still able to be played. Definitely would be a nostalgia trip to see where games came from and all those that they inspired.

I used to not like horror games, and I don't know why I started watching you, but the way you turn terrifying content (and sometimes just horrible games) into a chill amusement, has saved me from depression.

I gotta say I think David Harbour is doing a really solid job with the voice acting. I feel like screen actors can't always make the transition but he sounds quite good! Glad you chose to play as him despite your reservations :D

I'd *almost* recommend going back to try the original games, but... yeah, probably don't. They're a relic for their time, more impressive for what they were at the time than any fun to play now.
Really love to see the channel come so far and while I know a longform survival horror game is a bit "back to basics", I'm happy to see it unedited and enthusiastic on Channel #2. Glad the new format's working out for you so far!
Please play Gabriel Knight: Sins of the Father on the channel!! I know it hasn’t aged well in some parts, but it would be great to see you play it. I’m not sure if you played the remastered version, but I’ve always been partial to whichever version with Tim Curry voice acting Gabriel Knight.
Yeah I've been waiting for him to play any Gabriel Knight game ever since i've went haywire and peruse John's large back catalogue lol I see him play these games like King's Quest series, Kathy Rain, The Charnel House trilogy, Catlady, Lorelei and countless others and made me fell in love with the point and click adventure genre. One of my favorites genre playthroughs by John.

It's an accurate description, but it feels weird calling Alone in the Dark a franchise considering how the series has mostly consisted of a bunch of different studios trying to reboot it.

I was so excited when I saw this I had to get up and run a lap. I’m enjoying it so much, this style of game is my absolute favorite to watch you play. It’s also really nostalgic bc it reminds me of the first playthrus of yours I watched. What I love most tho is how much u seem to be enjoying it! I love watching you have fun. Gabriel knight: Sins of the father, received good reviews. Steam gave it a 9/10! Gotta admit really excited about playing this. I played the new nightmare back in the day on the ps1 and remembering man this looks so good 😂. Thanks for the video John.
