I think the "engine revving sounds" or the low, rumbling humming sounds in this one and Children of the Omnissiah deserve a special mention. How i personally see them it is the machine itself singing along with, or perhaps answering to, the Mechanicus and their worship. In Caestus Metallican, those sounds are more rhythmic, which to me personally bring to mind a machine breathing, or perhaps a heartbeat, which fits since you hear this music when you are *inside* the machine, the ship in this instance.
If I remember correctly a lot of buildings have servitors built into the walls and are constantly chanting, I wouldn’t doubt the admech do this as well for their ships, even the admech knights are constantly chanting when under fire that your able to hear it as it passes by
The Caestus Metallican is an Ark Mechanicus, the Imperium’s largest ship class that has ever been built, so not thousands of servants, but millions. It’s a flying small country.
This is one of those tracks you can leave on repeat as you paint your AdMech army or tinker with your computer and it feels like you're venerating the Omnissiah. I'm pretty sure they sampled engines revving in addition to an actual organ for this OST.

The Cult Mechanicus is older than the Imperium... and a few of the individual tech priests are as well. I feel like this track conveys that. Like an impossibly ancient machine that has transcended the material into the spiritual.

Getting into the Warhammer 40k and Fantasy titles lately and I didn't expect the attention to detail in the music. Vermintide has this frantic and skittering energy. Darktide has this sort of Gothic influenced heavy Industrial music. I'm just getting started but I appreciate the specific tone they are trying to set with the music and how it gives an idea of the "culture" of these civilizations.
Mechanicus is a great game with some wonderful music, but my favourite track is probably "Millennial Rage" for mixing DUBSTEP with the organ, it's downright genius.
Warhammer 40,000 has an exceptional history with it's video game music. The various themes for each faction in the Dawn of War games feels so on point with the theming. The music for the Eldar, 40k's space elves, feels elegant and ethereal, the Orks are heavy on their drums and percussion, the Space Marine music feel suitably heroic and glorious, yet intimidating. I look forward to watching your journey through the music of 40k
Honestly now I'd be curious to see how a soundtrack for the Dark Mechanicus would be like. Take this vibe, but add hellish, corrupted elements and all sorts of nasty, sickly vibes.
I listen to this when I read or just study passively, and when I need to think more about something like calculating equations or writing code I'll listen to Children of the Omnissiah or Millennial Rage
Btw the small "clinging" sound is somewhat a little Easter egg for Catholic churgoers. Those are little bells (usually 3 or 4 together) that are used during Catholic masses most "spiritual" and sacred moments of Eucharist (turning bread and wine into Christ's "body and blood"). So their use here is really reinforcing the subtle, profoundly sacred layer you reference.
In 40k stories, there are sometimes descriptions of rituals the mechanicus use to placate "machine spirits", so as to ensure optimal function, and guard against the curse of dysfunction, corrosion, etc. In one story, the engineseer (priest/technician) said a prayer (can't remember the words) while wafting incense (probably made from cable sleeves or something) over the object he was interacting with. One can tell the music is a masterpiece if the guy analysing the music is hitting the nail on the head when describing it's possible meaning when he hasn't played the game yet.
I was waiting for so long for your reaction to this music and I loved it! Your reactions where you did not have the words just expressed how i feel about this one. Noosphere is beautiful and children of the omnissiah is also great, as well as Kryptek, but Caestus Metallican to me just speaks to my soul in a way the others cannot and wanted to see what you would say about it. Thank you for taking the time.
I really like your videos on the soundtrack of this game! I think you should do "Warriors of Mars" and "Dance of the Kryptek" next. They are different, yet similar to what you have already listened to and I would really like your insight on them.
What i like the Most about this Music is that In-Game.. it doesn't really feel like it's background music. It feels like it's just Part of the game and the world the Story Takes place. It's so rooted into the Lore that it feels like Someone in-game is chanting and playing this music.
You're absolutely right about wanting to put this soundtrack on while working out or doing other things. I swear I work more efficiently at my day job when I can stick my earbuds in and put this whole OST on loop while I go through my daily tasks. Really looking forward to that Mechanicus stream!
You really should have a listen to Guillaume David's other work: Ixion. All the tracks on the OST are bangers, but ENV Charon and Vanir's Legacy would be my picks for conveying an emotive story.
"From the moment I understood the weakness of my flesh, it disgusted me. I craved the strength and certainty of steel. I aspired to the purity of the blessed machine. Your kind cling to your flesh as if it will not decay and fail you. One day the crude biomass you call a temple will wither and you will beg my kind to save you. But I am already saved. For the Machine is Immortal."
Yes! Finally! I was waiting for you to listen to this one for how long now! Something I appreciate re-listening to this song is there, in my ears, feels like a really good mix of holy, reverent music but mixed with a slow, workers tune. Like those old slave/prisoner songs what were sung to keep the workers both entertained and keep a rhythm. You can feel that rhythm to the song.
So happy you ended up buying the game ! Warhammer is such an amazing stage for such powerful music, you have very religious like music which could point to the emperor or in the case of the Adeptus Mechanicus their "Ommnissiah", you could have very brutal heavy sounding metal for the Orks, extremely nail biting horror for the xenos, a very honourable like triumph music for the Tau and quite creepy gothic sounding music for the Eldar, god i love 40K
Not sure if it would be up your alley Marco but you discussing subtlety in game music made me think of the Blasphemous soundtrack. The whole OST is entirely flamenco as the philosophy of flamenco is directly embodied within the game itself. Para un Martir del Compas is a stand out piece but the whole album is great.
I absolutely love thexy went for the organ in this soundtrack. Not just because of the religious conotations. But it being absolutely fitting for the Mechanicum. A giant machine, so large the player basically disappears between the arragngement of parts and pipes, but it is still directed and has that human at it´s core that without it would not work.

Just gunna toss this in here on the off chance it gets seen: I'd love to see your reactions to Madoka Magica's soundtrack. If i had to pick only one song, it'd be Symposium Magarum. Although, if i had to pick one that actually had vocals in it, i'd have to go with Noi instead of the ever-popular Surgam Identidem... though Surgam Identidem is a lot closer to your operatic roots.
Man.... Im so incredibly happy that you're getting into Warhammer universe) And the fact that you're going to play Mechanicus on stream.... This makes my soul sing with joy We will get to see you reacting to all the things that make this game such an incredible piece of art And all the music you will hear and actually analize... I absolutely adore the music of Mechanicus but I think with your explanations and analysis of certain details I'll love it even more. I mean... I love this soundtrack so much that I purposefully play slower to enjoy music more Can't wait for the stream) Have a blessed day
The machine is pleased. Marco is becoming one of us, love to see it. Warhammer 40k is indeed, and I am repeating myself here, absolute insan in it's scale, it's narrative and it's complexity.
My favorite part of the game is that the characters speak a language we don't understand, since they are from the far future and of course would have a different language. But the Mechanicus also has these augmentations to their speech which sound like another language being spoken at the same time.
The deep background bass pulse reminds me of a section about halfway through the game Inside. Gives me the same kind of "feeling" I guess, as when you just barely have cover from the blast and bits of debris fly by you. Like you are inside the beating heart of some massive machine.
The Mechanicus game shows off the lack of humanity in the Mechanicus because there's no voice acting for the Mechanicus characters, just a lot of garbled noises, which is them communicating within the Noosphere. but the Necrons have english VOs. so the Necrons, the millions of year old Xenos, speak english but the "humans" speaking in an almost alien language.
it's really interesting to me how these completely fictional factions have developed their own identity so much that they have their own type of music now. warhammer 40k games live and die by their flavour and this game(and most of the better 40k games) does it extremely well and I don't think this would've been possible without the property being old enough to gave it's own flavour.
Since you seems to have an affinity with turn-based games (Fire Emblem, Mechanicus ...) I would recommend the soundtrack of Othercide, a dark, gothic looking little number from Focus Home Interactive, the same publisher of Darktide (a few song of which you reacted to), specifically the boss themes. I trust it will be an interesting listening experience.
the world building in this OST is just awesome I think your note on Warhammer's music (imperial music specifically) having a sort of twisted/unholy vibe is fair because we're talking about a super dystopian future. It IS twisted!
Since I've found this channel, I've started listening to my favorite music more thoroughly, carefully, mindfully And after that I've discovered many, many little details, that were missed at the first meeting with the song It's just a shame I can't share those thoughts and emotions with others, so I'm rushing here after every notification in hopes to see my favorite soundtracks, but since I tend to like weird and obscure unknown titles, I probably won't see it and that's why I made this ridiculously long thing - to ask you to take a look at the love of my life - Pathologic, both 1 and 2 game. You won't be disappointed Those sounds still haunt me after all these years and no other game have rooted out such deep and primal feelings from my soul Btw love your channel, your work and you passion for music, hope to see more of this wonderful videos (人´∀`*)
Im so happy that you find warhammer fun!! Me and my friend got ourselfs last year into lore then we wanted to try the tabletop game and we loved it! It is complex but after few games you get the rules and starts being fun. Thanks on great video too!!
so excited for you to fully dive into the warhammer franchise man. its a bit convoluted and rather dark but man this game just screams everything you would love in a videogame man from the music and how it bleeds into everything else. besides the doom franchise, the warhammer videogames in particular is just some of the manliest, testosterone injected shit you'll ever experience. you'll find yourself quoting this game a lot i promise you. BLOOD FOR THE BLOOD GOD, FOR THE IMPERIUM OF MAN
the Mechanicus are my favorite 40k faction by far, and a pain to paint (love the challenge though) and it would bring me great joy if Marco were to pick some of them up, even if just do have someone else paint and then display. They are awesome figures, especially the large Imperial Knights - just amazingly badass machines with some very interesting lore. Lots of love Marco !
I absolutely love this game. And yes, I started with the minis about a year ago having been a 40k fan for over 20 years really because I was looking for a hobby that didn't involve sitting in front of a screen.
Def try and stream this. It's a ton of fun. They built a lot of character into the members of the expedition. Not to mention the lore behind the enemy they end up fighting, which I won't spoil. Yeah, 40k gonna draw you in man :) and that's the beauty of it for me. The factions and lore is present within nearly every property. Darktide had enough to get people into it and make them curious. And guess what? Owlcat is making a 40k CRPG which will have even more cool stuff in it.
Interesting. Wrath of the Righteous has some of the most detailed character creation I have seen in the fantasy genre, without making it messy in the process. So there is certainly potential there.
Excited to watch you play mechanicus Marco, it's a genuinely well made game! And the universe is VAST with lots of factions with their own aesthetics and themes. You'll find so much variety here, trust me.
Caestus Metalican is also the name of the ark mechanicum (an exceedingly rare type of space ship which has an entire factory built into it among other things) which the mechanicus arrived in
Can the comment section remind me whether Fortress Monastery came out before or after Mechanicus? While the soundtrack is simpler for that fan animation, it's somehow so relaxing. I listen to it from time to time to zone out.
My hope with Warhammer going more mainstream is that more attention and focus will be made to bring the aesthetics of this universe to life. The soundtracks that exist for this game and darktide alone are perfect examples of what can be done.
Woke up to this *and* find out you are going to do a Mechanicus gameplay stream; all while considering getting into the hobby proper?! My day is made :)
If I'd walk across a Chapel with such Sounds coming Out of it, I'd want to know what may be hidden inside. Those Kind of chant-like music is what triggers me in so many ways.
Oh I'm so glad to hear you bought the game! it's an absolute blast, and you'll learn plenty about the Mechanicus. I do hope that we get your reaction to Dance of the Cryptek. Though, because that track is my FAVORITE.
I've been casually interested in Warhammer 40k for, well, over a decade by this point, and only now, today, did I realize why the Imperium uses skulls everywhere. It's their symbol for humanity. It's so appropriate that they would use what is to us a symbol of death to represent humanity as a whole, because the Imperium is such an evil, stultifying, horrific place that it's essentially stripped all that was good and decent off those bones - or tried to. Even there, you still have the occasional act of compassion, no matter how hard the authorities crack down.
I remember reading an interpretation somewhere that the use of skulls has a duel meaning. The first is that the skull serves as a sort of unifying symbol. It is the face of humanity when you strip all ethnicity, creeds and status; it is what we all possess and proves we are as one species. The second is the skull represents the ultimate service one can commit to the God Emperor and his Imperium, which is self sacrifice. Martyrdom is the truest sign of faith, and what better to express this in symbolism than the human skull, for it both is obviously human and if all goes well, will outlast the rest of your body by a hundred fold. This long-lastingness of the skeleton serves as a analogy that your actions will long outlast your life, and that even in death, through your sacrifices in life you serve the Emperor in your actions echoes. This also why its considered a great honor for a persons brain/skull to be used for a servoskull. Servoskulls represent this echo of sacrifice in a far more literal sense, and being a skull they are the face of the Imperium they don't come from the same ilk that most servitors are born from.
I have really been enjoying watching you discovering this game's music. You're going through the same "wow this is good... wow this is GOOD... WOW! This is GOOD!" I went through when I played it and it's fun to watch someone else moving through that process. I'm very curious what Guilliame David did before working on this game. This is his first credit as a composer that I can find, and he hits it out of the park. I really want to hear the things he created before this.
You should check out the original version of Astartes animation on youtube(the one on Games Workshop site changed some of the music for the worse). Sound design, everything was done by a single guy. Insane level of animation, scene direction, choice of music and use of it and sound effects to set up the mood. It's around 7 minutes long in total. I'm really curious how a person so musically attuned as you would react to it.
MacroMeatball, if you dig these 40k tunes, a song you shouldn't miss is "Attack Without Mercy" AKA: The theme song to Warhammer 40k Battlefleet Gothic Armada 2. Slaps hard!
I think i've seen a making of this music showing that every organ part has been played by the great organist of Prague, with his Giant mechanical Organ.... cool eh ? next please do Overlord, it's both epic and desperate. I love every second of this OST
The game is great. I already finished once, but I'll be back to finish it on hard melee combat run only, Gonna be hard but this music is amazing and will keep on motivating me
There is one problem with Mechanics OST... There is nothing else like this... So you just become Necron by listening it over and over enjoying every single sound of this masterpiece :D
Warhammer 40k mechanicus is a fantastic game for turn based combat lovers. However, even if you aren't into those games, I HIGHLY recommend checking out the trailer just the theme and sounds alone are beautifully haunting.
I never found the time to get very far in the game, but I'm glad I wound up buying the soundtrack to Mechanicus. I found this channel looking up music from Darktide, and I've been absolutely loving the videos. I've gone back through older videos you've made, for example on theme songs from the Monster Hunter series. It's very entertaining hearing your thoughts on elements of these pieces that I otherwise take for granted. Your occasional 'rants' are fun to listen to and quite illuminating to me. 'Why You Love Video Game Music' translates a lot of my thoughts to words far better than I could, and adds to them greatly. I'll be sticking around. Thanks for doing what you do, Marco. If I could recommend some more songs in the 40k vein: 'Orks on Da Move', 'Brace for Impact', and 'Attack Without Mercy'. All from Battlefleet Gothic: Armada 2

Seconded.
Don't forget reciting psalm 11101-01 !
The best word to describe 40ks distinct design is Gothic. Its weight in that is what has always set it apart from any other universe for me 👍💯
You really should have a listen to Guillaume David's other work: Ixion. All the tracks on the OST are bangers, but ENV Charon and Vanir's Legacy would be my picks for conveying an emotive story.
Its on my list for Feb to film
Oh damn, he did Ixion? Another reason to try that game out.
I bought it but unfortunately, apart from one track , the whole thing is just ambience. I was disappointed.
@@StaK_1980 You may have gotten the wrong album. There are two, and the first one is definitely not just ambience.
@@Cross31415 I was listening to this: th-cam.com/video/RhTXyUERugQ/w-d-xo.htmlsi=M1Uox7k0eS9FYNW-
"From the moment I understood the weakness of my flesh, it disgusted me.
A common theme in warhammer 40k is "Alluring Repulsion." To find something simoltaniously enticing, and disgusting. *looks at slaanesh*
Yes!
I keep seeing this so I'm adding it to my list
I absolutely love thexy went for the organ in this soundtrack. Not just because of the religious conotations. But it being absolutely fitting for the Mechanicum. A giant machine, so large the player basically disappears between the arragngement of parts and pipes, but it is still directed and has that human at it´s core that without it would not work.
From the moment I understood the weakness of my flesh, it disgusted me.
I craved the strength and certainty of steel.
I aspired to the purity of the blessed machine.
Your kind cling to your flesh as if it will not decay and fail you.
One day the crude biomass you call a temple will wither and you will beg my kind to save you.
But I am already saved. For the Machine is Immortal.
Much more editing than I expected, pretty cool
Just gunna toss this in here on the off chance it gets seen:
I'd love to see your reactions to Madoka Magica's soundtrack.
If i had to pick only one song, it'd be Symposium Magarum. Although, if i had to pick one that actually had vocals in it, i'd have to go with Noi instead of the ever-popular Surgam Identidem... though Surgam Identidem is a lot closer to your operatic roots.
Man....
Im so incredibly happy that you're getting into Warhammer universe)
And the fact that you're going to play Mechanicus on stream.... This makes my soul sing with joy
We will get to see you reacting to all the things that make this game such an incredible piece of art
And all the music you will hear and actually analize...
I absolutely adore the music of Mechanicus but I think with your explanations and analysis of certain details I'll love it even more.
I mean... I love this soundtrack so much that I purposefully play slower to enjoy music more
Can't wait for the stream)
Have a blessed day
You really need to try the OST of IXION next ! Again Guillaume David as the composer ! it's so good !
The metallic ding reminds me of bells they sometimes have in Shinto chants.
Seeing you just GET IT from music alone. I love it. I am so glad you found us in the Warhammer Community. Welcome aboard my friend
I trust it will be an interesting listening experience.
the world building in this OST is just awesome
I think your note on Warhammer's music (imperial music specifically) having a sort of twisted/unholy vibe is fair because we're talking about a super dystopian future. It IS twisted!
Since I've found this channel, I've started listening to my favorite music more thoroughly, carefully, mindfully
And after that I've discovered many, many little details, that were missed at the first meeting with the song
It's just a shame I can't share those thoughts and emotions with others, so I'm rushing here after every notification in hopes to see my favorite soundtracks, but since I tend to like weird and obscure unknown titles, I probably won't see it and that's why I made this ridiculously long thing - to ask you to take a look at the love of my life - Pathologic, both 1 and 2 game. You won't be disappointed
Those sounds still haunt me after all these years and no other game have rooted out such deep and primal feelings from my soul
Btw love your channel, your work and you passion for music, hope to see more of this wonderful videos (人´∀`*)
I kind want to see Marcos reaction to Mechanicus Voice over work. It's something really awesome.
BLOOD FOR THE BLOOD GOD, FOR THE IMPERIUM OF MAN
This is a soundtrack that just has sunk under my skin and I love it.
the Mechanicus are my favorite 40k faction by far, and a pain to paint (love the challenge though) and it would bring me great joy if Marco were to pick some of them up, even if just do have someone else paint and then display. They are awesome figures, especially the large Imperial Knights - just amazingly badass machines with some very interesting lore. Lots of love Marco !
TBH "from the moment I understood the weakness of my flesh it disgusted me" is a banger mentality when going to the gym and listening to this
I absolutely love this game.
Caestus Metalican is also the name of the ark mechanicum (an exceedingly rare type of space ship which has an entire factory built into it among other things) which the mechanicus arrived in
The Machine God is associated with Goosebumps. Get them a lot when the chanting starts.
Would love to see your Mechanicus playthrough.
Honestly, after listening to this, im looking forward to that gameplay video!
Bit late but glad to hear you bought it! Ave Omnissiah, Deus Mechanicus
After finishing the game, now i absolutely MUST see you letsplay it!!
I love the almost diegetic aspects of this ost, really brings the world to life
Can the comment section remind me whether Fortress Monastery came out before or after Mechanicus?
While the soundtrack is simpler for that fan animation, it's somehow so relaxing. I listen to it from time to time to zone out.
My hope with Warhammer going more mainstream is that more attention and focus will be made to bring the aesthetics of this universe to life. The soundtracks that exist for this game and darktide alone are perfect examples of what can be done.
It’s a great Warhammer game, a bit too easy after the first few missions even on the hardest difficulty, but damn they nailed the feel.
YES
WARHAMMER
And here I was, thinking you playing DMC was a great moment...
My favorite track, got it as my wakeup tone for few years now. My God, it is so glorious to wake up to!
AVE DEUS MACHINA
I never had much interest in 40k until I heard the OST, bought the game and I’ve been learning more about it ever since
Woke up to this *and* find out you are going to do a Mechanicus gameplay stream; all while considering getting into the hobby proper?! My day is made :)
If I'd walk across a Chapel with such Sounds coming Out of it, I'd want to know what may be hidden inside. Those Kind of chant-like music is what triggers me in so many ways.
Can't wait for toy to hear "Rylanor's Last Stand" from Stringstorm, also a song based on the Warhammer 40k lore.
Oh I'm so glad to hear you bought the game! it's an absolute blast, and you'll learn plenty about the Mechanicus.
I do hope that we get your reaction to Dance of the Cryptek. Though, because that track is my FAVORITE.
you will!
I'm early! I'm so proud of myself! Even more that you're analyzing this piece, I love it so much. Amazing content as always, Marco!
Fucking hilarious in game actually 1:54 because at the necrons sound more human than the mechanicus haha!
Damn, lol the algorithm hooked me up
I have really been enjoying watching you discovering this game's music.
I really want to hear the things he created before this.
i need MORE of this kind of music
I can’t wait for him to hear Overlord. Especially during a fight.
I would absolutely love to watch you play this game.
I love every second of this OST
was not expecting to see wavey marco today
You should really check "Dance of the Cryptek" from Mechanicus, it is the Necron's theme (the "bad guys" of the game)
David Guillaume is a genius 🙏
The game is great. I already finished once, but I'll be back to finish it on hard melee combat run only, Gonna be hard but this music is amazing and will keep on motivating me
40K is a lot of fun. Can't wait for the World Eaters release.
There is one problem with Mechanics OST... There is nothing else like this... So you just become Necron by listening it over and over enjoying every single sound of this masterpiece :D
That’s actually true
also at 6:06 you hear screems in the distance as people get lobotimized/augmented
Warhammer 40k mechanicus is a fantastic game for turn based combat lovers. However, even if you aren't into those games, I HIGHLY recommend checking out the trailer just the theme and sounds alone are beautifully haunting.
I sincerely hope you get to Dance of the Cryptek. It's my favorite track from this OST.
If I could recommend some more songs in the 40k vein:
'Orks on Da Move', 'Brace for Impact', and 'Attack Without Mercy'.
All from Battlefleet Gothic: Armada 2
🥰 thank you so much for the kind words
4:09 I'm always on the hunt for "animated main menu music" Music that makes you feel like you're slowly turning on a pedestal.
Doom Eternals' main menu music is pretty good...
The lost and the damned pause music is pretty good...
Castle Von Tedistien from conker's bad fur day...
Ooh! Perfect Vermin's Human Resources!
Oddly enough Drake's Used to (Especially without the lyrics)
Quake's got some pants shittingly terrifying atmospheric tracks...
I'll post more if I think of any...
This guy just woke up one day and decided to grow a big ass beard and become the most fun and exciting music channel on youtube
😂😂😂😂 bro
