The Grizzly 450 is now on sale FYI. The other interesting feature of the 450 is two drains on both ends of the tub, so in theory we don't need to drill a hole. Just use both drains. I'll post more when I'm finished building.
Just bought a grizzly 450 as well. I am curious how your build goes. It would be nice to know what different you do with your setup using the two bottom drain plugs and the types of connections/adapters you use to connect to the drain plugs. Let me know how it goes and your updated parts list. Thanks a bunch man!
Great video mate thanks for doing it. Just ordered all the parts. Ordered the cooler directly from Grizzly as the lead time on the site you link to is ten weeks. Was able to get a different color and used code WCB for free shipping and it arrives in 2-3. Just another option. Cheers
Great work. I keep thinking about a safety feature that disconnects power when you open the lid. This cooler set up with integrated lid would be perfect for that.
Nick, awesome instructional video! Thank you for posting it. I’m hoping to trade my ice barrel for a grizzly today. Even if the trade does not work out, I think the parts can still work for my ice barrel build if I end up going that route.
Thanks for the parts list. I bought a transfer pump from Lowes and it is LOUD! and only pumps 240 GPH (5.5 GPM). I'm going to get the pump you used. Seems super quiet, which excites me.
Thanks for the video. I've been looking into cold plunging for a while. I would like to build one and I came across you video. I would like to get the parts list and give it a try. Cheers.
Looked at your description for the cooler size. Man, I need a bigger cooler as I am 6’1” 183 and considered using the cooler I have several Months ago, but it’s too small. Thanks
I just had to replace the filter. Only after about a month of usage. I’m wondering two things. What’s the right model filter to use and whether the GPM flow is compatible with the pump. I knew something was wrong when my ozone generator stopped sending bubbles in. Removed the filter and turned back on and wow there was flow. Testing out two different types of filters coming up.
that's super interesting, do you have a video on how to plug/unplug the tubes you connected to the cold bath ? This plug/unplug system sounds robust (I believe it's called hose couplings)
Did you look at all at saeplast products? Ive been looking at doing this with one of their coolers. The D345 looks like the perfect size and is comparable in price to the grizzly
so i am leaning towards the grizzly build.... is there a set of caps you can buy to plug the inlet and outlet so i could still use the cooler as a cooler if i wanted? Would really only be a couple times a year. thanks
I'd suggest not trying to do both with the same cooler. Removing and adding the water every time you want it probably isnt the best solution. But yes, I think you could probably find caps
Great video, thanks. I am going to try to build the same one. After 6 months, would you do anything differently? Does the hydrogen peroxide really do the trick for keeping water clean? I see a lot of people using ozone instead.
Great video! Thank you, but On your parts list, you have an item marked XXX. I’m not seeing that in your video. Is that something that needs to be ordered?
You got it! I will add the excel link to my list to the description of the video. Have really been impressed with the quality of the build, I don't think you'll be disappointed
This is a very good build I think many should do if they didn’t want too much chest freezer DIY. Another option is a bath tub you insulate and connect with chiller like the plunge but for only about 1.5K
@nickrandy1 and the cooler option is more mobile or I guess lighter empty to move even though I know they are like 90 lbs dry. Cooler not as asthetic though. Chest freezer build looks to be the cheapest but the sealing process is labor intensive and I've heard of people they say their seals failed in the end. I'm torn between the grizzly build and finding a cheap used freezer for 200 bucks and using easy marine sealant and just gambling to see how long it works.
I only did it at the start, and will probably only do it every time i change water. Maybe a little spash more in a few months? Im the only one who uses my tub and I shower before every time so the water stays fairly clean.
Is the water coming out of the chilller supposed to be close to what you set it at?I just set mine up and it’s not much colder than the ambient temp..maybe it takes a bit?
It is definitely doable! Something to consider: The Rubbermade has very little insulation compared to the grizzly. So in order to keep that cool, you may have to run your pump 12+hours aday. I feel like the energy savings might even out over 2 years or so on the cost of the cooler
The grizzly 450 has two drain bulkheads on either side. Aside with your opinion of the bulkheads being to low, it would be nice to not have to drill 2 holes…what would be the downsides IYO of doing this approach. (I figured I could install a bypass on one of the tubes to make it easy for draining)
too bad the grizzley tub is not for sale anymore. I have yet to find a cooler tht size in germany. and isnt´ 1/4HP a tad on the "weak" side ? others claim that you would need at least 1/2HP. ... but: awesome setup I have to admit
this all seems to be outdated now. they dont carry the grizzly 400 anymore. they dont even show it on the grizzly page. the replacement seems to be the 450 that is 1300 retail. also a 1/4 chiller does not make for a very cold cold plunge.
@@roblianoofficial a cover wouldn't prevent condensation. You would have to buy a floor pan, but hey I'm probably biased because I had both and prefer my grizzly lol. Price point cheaper but for convenience I'm sticking with the grizzly.
@@gilberttorress1486 I keep mine outside, not the Rubbermaid but a metal tank, with a chiller, just offering an option to those who don't want to drop hundreds.
$1800!?😂 Anyone who can afford to spend thousands of dollars for a cold tub is probably only 15% of those wanting one. Build one for a few hundred and then will you could reach the remaining 85%.
Do not follow this build list for the grizzly 450!!!! Miss cut my cooler because of it! 18 inches Puts you on an uneven seam! And the union fitting doesn't reach though it!
How is anyone spending over $500 on this project??? 2nd hand chest freezer plus inflatable spa pump (which are super cheap once the spa is unusable) plus an inkbird controller. Seriously, some sealant and you're good, honestly I think $200 would be overkill.😂

Great work. I keep thinking about a safety feature that disconnects power when you open the lid. This cooler set up with integrated lid would be perfect for that.

Why did you choose to drill out your drain bulkhead hole vs using the Grizzly's builtin drain?
Makes it easier to drain, the bulkhead is too low IMO to be the outlet, and standardizes the hole size too
