A case of single serve frozen water bottles will chill your bathtub nicely within 30-45 min. I've been doing this for years and this is the method I have settled on as the most economical.

@@benz0317 Just take your used 2 liter coke bottles and fill them with water (Single serve plastic water bottles work even quicker) and freeze them. Fill tub with water leaving room for you plus the bottles, place frozen bottles in the tub and wait until water chills. Jump in. Put bottles back in freezer for next time.

I've started to swim in cold water (I live in Siberia) 12 years ago. Doesn't matter for me its -30C outside or 0C. I always use cold shower and cold baths. Also I've try to wear less cloth in winters.
What can i say 12 years later:
    1. Now I love every season of the year (I dont hate winter anymore) .
    2. No depressions
    3. I've got very good immunity - I literally forgot when I was ill last time.
    4. Now I dont need to spent a lot of money for winter clothing (we got -20..-45C in winter) - really good cold resilience. Using my shorts in autumn when all people wear jackets :D
    5. People think im weird - I dont care. I've got good health, strong body and good mood.
Be healthy! And try ice baths :] Free biohacking. Just try it (not once.. u need to do it every day).

I stopped using hot water 10y ago. Best decision of my life.
    The stuff I noticed myself:
    - extreme immunity boost ( i literally haven't got a serious cold since then, even though previously i would get 2 such episodes/year - sometimes even in summer)
    - best wakeup in the morning , stronger than coffee and whatnot
    - contradictory, a cold shower right before, also helps with a good sleep
    - cold resilience overall .. during autumn i rarely need anything but shorts and tshirt. I can go as low as 4 degrees outside temperature and feel ok in my skin (As long as i`m walking and moving constantly)

Just commentating on my personal experience for those who might be on the fence about cold showers and ice baths. I don't take ice baths, but take really cold showers for like 5 mins every morning(cold enough where I'm gasping for warmth). I wake up instantly, very alert, energetic, my skin cleared up... i know that last part is random but... Well I had persistent acne since a teenager - now its just gone. I think it increases blood flow which maybe helps with clearing my skin(and I also feel very sharp all day long - I hate to sound cringy or fake but overall I feel smarter - I'm not smarter but I feel that way because I'm on top of everything now and can recall things easier due to increased energy). In the long term - I've been doing it now for about a year or so. I really can't be without it to be honest, I hate skipping cold showers(i've skipped maybe 10 times so far, I hate getting in but I hate my energy without it...). Small amount of energy boost makes a big difference. Also that bit of energy I believe really helps me deal with stress which basically makes my day more productive as I'm not emotionally stuck on something. So for me, it is a pretty big deal - especially in the long run. I really think this is sort of like a compounding effect on your life if that makes sense.
Anyway - thats just my personal experience. The obvious benefit is that small energy boost... But honestly, its snowballs overtime. I feel I've got so much in my life in order - and its partially thanks to this cold showers(but maybe and mostly due to diet and other small changes I've made) - I'm looking to do ice baths now. Which is why I'm looking at this video, just to see how this guy does it as I'm already sold on this idea having experienced it. I'm confident it will bring me exactly what I'm looking for which is more energy to deal with the day and take on more stressful situations. I just wanted to give everyone a realistic perspective on this whole thing.

I am impressed with your grit and resolve mate. Absolute respect. Personally, I'm a massive jessie, with a very low pain threshold, but even I force myself to end each shower with a blast of cold water, and periodically take ice cold showers because of the health benefits. I recently moved 500 miles due north, from a place that is generally warm, to a place that is habitually cold.. and very cold in the winter. Periodically exposing the body to sudden drops in temperature trains your metabolism to be much more responsive. Not to mention that it massively increases your tolerance to cold. My honest advice to anyone, especially if they hate the cold, is to expose yourself to it MORE. Your entire temperature tolerances change and you get used to it. Plus, enduring it, trains your mind to learn to deal with discomfort, instead of avoiding it.
Well done mate. I know what it is like to take ice cold showers, and that is nothing compared to sitting in a literal ice tub.

Cold immersion changed my life! I plan on making a video in the future on my channel about it, but I didn’t realize I was depressed before I started because ever since I just feel so much more alive, and positive I just feel amazing! They are so good for you physically too. Heals your body, and reduces soreness so as a very active athlete I feel so much better I don’t feel low energy, and sore anymore I also live in montana so the winters here are harsh, and I can run outside no problem with shorts because my body is more tolerant with cold weather, but I just feel amazing I also had acne, and something about cold water that helps with acne, my skin cleared up I had some blemishes on my face and body, but now it’s gone. Definitely noticed sleep improvement, and more muscle tone, also yeah I don’t get sick at all. It’s awesome because I used to catch frequent colds. Changed my life completely! Last thing I’ll mention is that comfort kills so it’s just to do something that makes you feel uncomfortable, and that’s when cold immersion comes in because yeah your cold, your uncomfortable, it’s a good thing! Your building your mental toughness, and all the benefits that come with them! Keep at it everyone!

Thanks for sharing your ice bath experience. I am about to start them and videos like this is encouraging. I follow Wim Hof but still is great to see someone from zero exposure to half hour.
BTW I was "phobic" to cold showers. I did challenge myself for 21 days, as usual at the beginning the overthinking was awful but few days later I was sold, to the point that I am taking cool showers everyday.
Definitely these experiences are a real game changer.

I switched of the heating in my pool in October and instead of closing it for the winter, I decided to try to swimm throughout the winter. So the first month the pool went from 30°C to 10°C. Right now I'm at 6°C and swimming every day for 5 minutes. Going under the 10°C mark was a bit uncomfortable for me and I really needed to push myself, but two weeks in under 10°C I started looking forward to my daily swim. Today it was freezing outside but the water still at 6°C. I decided to wear a cap and honestly that makes all the difference since I shave my head. Not much of isolation on my head. Anyways the cap did it. Really looking forward to lower water temperatures and now that I saw this video, might push myself to stay longer in the water from now on. 10-15 minutes should be my goal. Let's see how far I can go.

I live in Belgium. We tend to have mild winters over here with occasional snow but very little if any. Cleaning the pool is easy. I have a robot that cleans it. Also in the winter time the amount of chlorine you need to keep the water ok is minimal compared to summer times. Right now we're still enjoying the summer pool but in a month or so, I'll switch off the heating and then it's back to the daily cold swims.

This summer, before the northern ocean water got warm up here in Scandinavia, I regularly went to the ocean to feel the calmness and peace that the cold water gave me. As someone who has a hard time to relax normally, getting into the water and letting go has been one of the best feelings ever. My biggest tip is to not submerge yourself above your shoulders until you "get warm". I got my inspiration to do it from a movie called My Octopus Teacher. God bless y'all.

Hi! Just started doing ice baths as well, I wanted to say something but I hope you take it the right way, I've noticed that if you sit completely still you create a slightly warmer barrier around you, to prevent this I continously circulate the water with my arms and legs, this to me intensifies the cold by orders of magnitude for longer ice baths. Really impressed by your challenge and inspired by the sealed freezer idea!

Yes. I do that too. When I feel I'm getting used to the water, I move my limbs around or lean forward to make sure my shoulders and back get the water. I have my portable ice bath in my house but I feel like I'm not getting the water as cold as it should be. I leave a couple of buckets outside overnight and also have about 12 ice cube trays I fill everyday (plus big bags of ice which I try to keep filled with my ice cube trays). I dump all that in my portable round bath before I do my Wim Hof breathing exercises. It IS cold, but not 'turn your skin red' cold. I have to figure out a way to get it colder.

Ice bath is great for waking you up in the morning, but can make it harder to fall asleep if done too close to bedtime. When you get out of an ice bath, your body's natural reflex is to warm itself back up. This conflicts with the body's natural process of cooling down as you're going to sleep, which is why you literally cannot fall asleep if you're too hot. Conversely, if you get out of a sauna or a really hot bath shortly before bedtime, your body is going to naturally work to cool itself off, which will gel nicely with trying to fall asleep.

All good. I have been searching any anectdotal info of broblems staying in cold water for extended times. Mostly I see success stories. I have one to share. Two years ago late into the autum in the Gulf of Finland, the water temp was 4 degrees of celcius. First try after watching youtube videos of WH taking a group the Slovakian mountains made me ask myself. Is it possible stay about 7min in maybe also 7 Celcius cold water first time. At the beach all seems well and I warm up (cool down) by doing some swimsuit yoga (bad idea) for 30 min. Seven minutes in water happens with great ease. I am surprized. Air temperature is still cool when I get back on the sand but I feel not anymore cold and I cool down (warm-up) shortly. It is about a 30 minute car drive back home and I start to sence severe tremors i.e. shivering. I sneeze at the door steps the first time, followed by a second sneeze....the last one counting as the 33.rd in a row. No fever is detected but the nose is running like a firehose. It lasts the next 20 hours. The next dip is about 5minutes short and the water is just a bit warmer. Less yoga this time but I deside to do at least some kettlebel warm-ups (Bad idea). Same effect. Runny nose begun again and ended up as constant sneezing. These issues subsided in about 20 hours. This way I found that a runny nose is only a bodily function not caused by any microbes but by the immune system it self. Did not catch that terrible Media-19 Virus either. Then came one month gap in cold plunges (good idea? Not necessarily) three days before Christmas. I stayed a straight 10 minutes in 3 Celcius water at an air temperature of -10 celcius this time accompanied with my cold plunge noobie daughter. She does well, I not so much. Anyhow the next day only seems fine as there was no sneezing. I did not do any excersize at all. Streight into clothes and into the warm car. But, on the very next morning she and I go to do some icescating and weightlifting outside (a very Bad Idea). At home after 36h from the dip, I notice distinct warmness around my body and suspect it to be muscle fatique from the workout.
This turns out to be a false assumption as I discover a rather bad urticaria has risen around my inner thighs, sides, arms, tummy and back. I was a Swiss camo-crab. Red and white. All in the areas that were exposed to cold water. Next day rises more questions. I see white lumps size of a pea under the skin. This is creepy. 3D-formations possibly fat tissue swells and it is getting worse! Much worse. At Christmas eve few days in, I am unable to walk normally. Coin sized formations in my subcutaneus tissue at the limbs are abundant. As I stand up I feel the body fluids rush down into my legs vascularies and microcapillaries. The pain related to this shows in my expressions. I can operate easy tasks but it is stressful to work physically. When lying on my back, I can be quite free of pain. Up right standing, not so much.
I will not accept pain killers since I do not know what is going on. A friend sais it is some kind of vascular infection and points my investigations towards chillblain. Finally it is down to two possibilities. It is now 35 days in and I feel pressure from my family to visit a doctor. I hate the idea as I no longer trust anyone aside a surgeon. I have had my experience with the medCare and Pharma. It did not go well.
That aside the question is: Is it the more feared Cryo Globulinemic Vasculitis a condition that can be lethal or is it Equestrian type panniculitis. Doctor sais the latter. I feel relived. This will be a problem though as I hear the body makes antibodies against the folded cold shock proteins. I found it to be true. I am now an enemy to my self. The brain likes cold more than the adipose tissue. If I want to continue I have to find the best zone in exposure time, durations, intervals and temperatures to do the exposures. That ment the entire season was done.
This following year I started early and as the waters cooled I was daily in the water regardless of the too warm waters. Did not want to jump into problems right from the start. In the end I endured symptomless in 17 minutes stay in a 4 celcius waters. Only after doing more i found the new upper limit to be +20 min. That did apprx 20% damage and I halted all dips for a month. Durations of 5-8 min seem now ok and as the winter progressed and the thicker ice bed came about, temperatures in the hole in the ice fell to zero. I tried it short 4 minutes in a sunny crisp -17 degree celcius weather. This triggered 20% damage as well. I returned in the ice after a three week resting time to test a mere 3min dip in zero celcius icy sea. The weather was a cold one with an overcast clouds above. In that -12 celcius weather an estimate a 60% damage reoccurred as related to the initial cathastrophy of those horrible 42 days.
Today I do not care so much of the pain. It goes away with a 4 day fast. Just wanted to share my more radical experiences with you who think it is all roses. There are plenty of times when all went well and were worth this type of life-style. I dare to do a lot more of snowshoeing in short sleeve clothing and walks in thin sole sandals lasting even 90min. One time was 30minutes in -15celcius weather but I do this only when sun shines. Do not be stupid and stubborn as I seem to be. I know my stuff. I have done serious biohacking for years in a way as others do bodybuilding. I build mine from the inside out. I am no superman and that might be what drives me. A nobody can be somebody at least to one self. This has been a great confidence building journey. Un-Illness for Life.
