    I get great questions every day on my Instagram (@dmausjr), and in the comments of my videos.
    Lately, I’ve been asked this: What is the Best Chiller to use for my DIY Cold Plunge?
    I’ve luckily used many, but my favorites are the Active Aqua Chiller and the EcoPlus Chiller.
    In this video I will compare them both and talk about the benefits of using a chiller vs. traditional ice baths. I use the Active Aqua Chiller in my DIY Cold Plunge with Ice Barrel and the EcoPlus.

    I just bought the 1inch Active Aqua with the 1inch pump from Active Aqua that sells on Amazon. I set this up in my bath and it will drop 5 degrees every hour. I fill the tub and the water is 75. It takes 5 hours to drop to 50. I then turn it off until the next time I want to use it. The water will raise to about 60. The next time I use it I only need 2 hours. It is a little noisy and produces heat but a very good machine. Thanks for the videos David!

      Hi Paul, thanks for the info. I'm also looking to set up a cold plunge in my bathtub. I'm new to this so hoping you can provide details. Which chiller do you use with the Active Aqua pump (the Active Aqua or EcoPlus or anther chiller)? Are you running the chiller and pump all the time or just 5 hours before you plunge? How often do you drain your bathtub...every time you plunge or ever few days etc? Thanks so much for any info you can provide. I can't find much info out there from people who use a bathtub as their plunge, only the barrels and troughs.

    Next month (Sept) marks the 2 year anniversary of ordering my "Plunge" refrigerated tub. It uses the Active Aqua 1/4 HP chiller. I have it outside (here on Maui) and it keeps the water at the right temperature with ease. For me a 1/2 or 1HP chiller wouldn't be worth the added cost or buy or operate. One of those would get the water down to temp faster after I clean and refill the tub, but I can wait. I don't even keep the boost on and it keeps the water to temperature with ease. Outside installation isn't a problem. It has been outside for going on 2 years. The only problem I've had was a temperature probe went bad. Plunge sent me a new one and a link to an installation video. I was tempted to keep using the bad probe as it kept the water at 32.5 degrees. I did quite a few dips at that temp. but my electric bill shot up. So I fixed it. I change the temp quite often. Sometimes down to 39 but mostly in the upper 40's. The 1/4 HP unit costs a little over $700.

    You should wrap that barrel in an adhesive aluminum face insulation. It’ll keep it from absorbing sunlight and also keep it from transferring the heat as fast. You are running $65/month in electricity atleast.

    Hey David, I have been enjoying your videos. I wish I would’ve seen them before I made my purchase. I bought the Polar Monkeys Brain Pod 2.0 a couple of months ago. It took 7 weeks to arrive. I set it up and all was well until on the fifth day in, the pump went out. I have to send it back and they are replacing it with a new one. I am obviously now lacking confidence in their pump/chiller set up. Down the road I will probably consider replacing it with one of the chiller setups you have recommended. My question is this. The 1 1/2 hp Eco Plus you show in your video also has what looks like a large filter canister but it is not shown as coming with the chiller unit and is not in your list of recommended items. Could you please let me know what brand it is and where to get it? Thank you and keep up the good work.

    • @DavidMausJr
      @DavidMausJr  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Im sorry that happened. They are a good company and i am sure they will make it right, but the wait it frustrating. Actually, that entire setup was Polar Monkeys original plunge and it was great, but slightly overkill. You wouldnt ever need a filter that big, unless you had a rotating plunge with 50 nasty, sweaty bodies getting in every day. It kept the water very clean but it is a legit pool filter. Let me know if you want me to send you more info on that but i wouldnt say its necessary.

I want to know how to make sure all hoses, water pump and fittings are properly put together as to not leak water into my garage and i cant find any articles videos or links to think information so far. How you rate a chiller in cooling capacity is relative to a temperature in the evaperator. What this means is that comparison of a 1hp to a 2hp from different manufactures dosnt mean anything if its not tied to a temperature. Ive seen people market their product and compare it to others on the market demonstrating that its more powerful, when it could be smaller in capacity but they have referenced it at a different temperature. What really matters is the time taken for it to cool for example 200 liters of water cools from 20c to 10 c.

    If remodeling a bathroom, no walls, everything is down to the studs..
    Is it possible to plumb the EcoPlus 1.5HP into a shower? Similar to the video "Making Your Shower Deliver ICE COLD water for Wim Hof Cold Showers", but using a commercial chiller.
    I like those recirculating pumps that go under the sink, but in this case recirculate ice-cold water and have it come out of the shower head. I'd turn it on a few hours before I use it, so that it's not constantly working.

      Just my 2 cents on the penguin. Ordered the chiller may 27th 4-6 weeks out for delivery. 6 weeks came and they said they were redesigning the unit another 2 weeks. By this time I was in The process of moving so I asked if they could ship to my new address. They said they would….and then the chiller shipped to my old address so I spent a week or so trying to hook up with the guy who bought my old place. Finally get the chiller hook it up annnnnddd it does not cool the water. Now I will say that penguin gave me a $100 back for my troubles with the address. And now they are willing to ship me a new unit or give me a refund. I’m not too sure what I will end up doing but so far my experience has been an expensive nightmare. You say there’s only two ways what about a third using a freezer with a temperature controller??

    • @DavidMausJr
      @DavidMausJr  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      You can totally do that too. I know a lot of people who have tried that route. Most do end up going to a tub/pump/chiller. 🤙🏽

    Is 10 amps too much en electricity bills ?

    • @DavidMausJr
      @DavidMausJr  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It can be. Depends on the temp outside and what tub you use. The chiller only pulls high amps when it is chilling the water. Once it reaches the set temp it turns off.

    Could you just use with a bath tub instead of a barrel?

    • @DavidMausJr
      @DavidMausJr  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      You totally can! You can really use anything that holds water. Some are just better than others (cleaner, less space, holds the temp better)

    I am interested in the ice barrel and the chiller set up for real and may buy. But also as a business owner I have been interested in this whole market of Amazon Affiliate marketing and wondered if we could talk off platform about how this works a bit? Commissions etc? Thanks, Rick
