I built mine exactly the same way Got the freezer at Lowe's as a slightly dented item at a discount, too. I sealed it with waterproof epoxy putty, but I just ordered epoxy pond liner liquid that I'm going to coat the inside with, so I don't have to be afraid of damaging the seam sealer as I get in and out. @@brendanpenn187 I fill it with a garden hose, which has water at about 67 F. It took a few hours to drop it to the low 50s. Once it's initially chilled though, the freezer has no trouble at all keeping it at temperature while only running a bit occasionally. Water holds heat (and cold) very well, so a cold tub like this is very stable and uses only a negligible amount of power. I left the lid on the freezer and keep that lowered when I'm not in it. @@Max-Jacob I ended up doing my own conversion of a chest freezer. It was definitely labor and material intensive but a pretty fun project. Mine is 7 Cu. I’m 5’8 do you think the size is adequate. Most people go for a 14 cu ft unit how er it drives the price up a lot more. I’m trying to start this as a morning routine as I would rather invest into this than a cheap tub with using ice.
Great video! Thank you. We have a hot sauna that we use every other night so having a cold plunge would be great. Question: when you drain it, do you have it in a place where you can just unplug the drain and it just drains or do you have a tube to have it drain into dirt or a garden or??? The only place we could have something like this is in our carport and it would not be good to drain it in the carport. Any advice is much appreciated.
Hey Nick, thinking about building this exact thing. Anything you would change/alter, or would doing the exact build in this video still be what you recommend? Thanks!
I’m currently doing the same but not sure on the sealant he uses . Any thoughts ? I’ve seen JB web as a sure sealant! Also I’m doing the pond shield , I can just see this set up giving away at the seams with jb weld & pond shield. Feedback pls
Can you not adjust the temp on the freezer unit itself? Mine has a dial setting... dunno if I can get it as high as 44, but the colder the better. Just as long as it doesn't freeze solid!
Hey Nick!! How’s the sealant you used holding up….on the back of the exact tube it says Not FOR CONTINUOUS UNDERWATER USE! I used what you did. Any issues with leaks?
Love this idea! Sadly I have very broad shoulders and there's no way I'd fit. Can't seem to find any freezers that are wider. Still I'll use a lot of these tips when I figure out my rig. Thanks!
Get flexible and sit sideways! Easier said than done, but I'm in the same boat as you and that's my plan, still have to get more flexible but my knees are strong enough now
Hey thanks for the video - I’m about to setup my freezer to cold plunge. Wondering about the aluminium liner? Does that need a coating so it won’t rust - how’s it holding up?
If I want to keep this in garage … it seems like draining the water would cause a mess .. Any tips on that process ? I am wondering if buying a filter would make it better and not have to change water Otherwise I will have to keep it outside where water can drain Where do you keep yours?
Can you tell how tall are you and how much is your body weight ? It will help me to choose the right size freezer for me Thank you in advance and good bless you for your shearing and help
Hi, great video! I actually built one of these and it works awesome. However, the inkbird temperature controller for me did not stop at the desired cold temperature. It actually went way down. Do you have any troubleshooting ways to fix this? Thanks.
Is this really safe as long as you unplug it before going in? How about some electricity still in the freezer even while unplugged? Could that be dangerous?

Hello, I hope you're well. You say that you shouldn't get into the water while there's still power to the freezer, which I can understand. But I've sometimes read that you shouldn't even touch the casing as long as it's powered? What do you advise? Please, thank you in advance.
How does the temperature control work if you unplug going in?
Always an amazing upload! My 20th birthday is June 27 would love to do a cheat day video with you
Thanks bro! Happy birthday! 🙌🏼🔥

Is it safe to be in the water with the sealer and other materials already on the inside of the freezer? or is it non toxic materials
Did you have to hard wire the electronic controller into the freezer?
Great video, thanks!!! Love the controller idea
How has the sealant held up? Everyone is saying to use jb weld.
So if we live in western region if its in winter time will it regulate it to not get cooler when it gets in the negatives? Or colder weather?
Do you pull the plug to drain it then just reseal it every time?
I just drain it from the plug and it seals back up
Quick question, would it not be even more beneficial to submerse the face also?
How does the controller actually control the freezer? Like how do you sync them together?
If you put in a small pump to keep the water moving it won’t freeze. So you can actually get the water colder
🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼
You could also salt the water to get the temperature lower.
We set ours up with the temperature gage, and the chest on the front and right side is very hot to the touch? Is this normal?
Yes, that should be fine, it’s just the freezer working hard to keep the water cold.
@@NickDompierre ty!!!!
The Hotpoint big commerce link isn't working
This video has been two years. Is it still holding up, I just put my sealer in yesterday so I don’t know if I should fill it up yet, is it still going two years later?
@@jaybman2700 still going strong
@@NickDompierre I did not expect you to answer at least for a couple of weeks, you just got yourself another subscriber, buddy, have a great day!
thanks Jay! I appreciate it man. You too!
After a year, how is everything holding up? How is the sealant after a year?
What about the water? I mean how to keep it clear, need to put chlorine, or other ingredient for ph? Or need to change water often?
You don’t have to use chlorine. Can get pool salt, or an aquarium filter
@@KatJaguar1122 pool salt? What do you mean?
Aquarium filter is very nice idea 😊 does it do the job?
I’m 5’8 do you think the size is adequate. Most people go for a 14 cu ft unit how er it drives the price up a lot more. I’m trying to start this as a morning routine as I would rather invest into this than a cheap tub with using ice.
Love your content bros. Always inspiring ….. keep ‘em comin’
Thank you!
Great tips I got the ink birk thank you sir :)
How do you drain it to refresh the water?
Great video! Thank you. We have a hot sauna that we use every other night so having a cold plunge would be great. Question: when you drain it, do you have it in a place where you can just unplug the drain and it just drains or do you have a tube to have it drain into dirt or a garden or??? The only place we could have something like this is in our carport and it would not be good to drain it in the carport. Any advice is much appreciated.
Thank you! I drain it in my back patio. You could get a little water vacuum pump to drain it with a little hose.
May I ask what size your build is? I am looking for a chest freezer but I want to make sure I’ll fit inside. I am 6’2 and 230.
5’-11” 208lbs
@@NickDompierre thank you! I think I’m going to get a 15 sf freezer. Awesome video.🙏🏽
Hey Nick, thinking about building this exact thing. Anything you would change/alter, or would doing the exact build in this video still be what you recommend? Thanks!
Is this size too small? Would you go with a larger one if you had to do it again? Like the 14.8 cu ft ones? Im 6'1".
Thanks, good tips. Gonna build one this week!
You are a genius, my friend.
No issues at all
@@NickDompierre thanks for the swift reply brother.
@NickDompierre - Are there any pool chemicals you’ve used in the past to keep the ice bath clean instead of having to empty and refill with new water?
Love this idea! Sadly I have very broad shoulders and there's no way I'd fit. Can't seem to find any freezers that are wider. Still I'll use a lot of these tips when I figure out my rig. Thanks!
Then get an above ground pool seem like that may work until you figure something out.
Get flexible and sit sideways! Easier said than done, but I'm in the same boat as you and that's my plan, still have to get more flexible but my knees are strong enough now
Can you keep this outside in the winter months?
Hey thanks for the video - I’m about to setup my freezer to cold plunge. Wondering about the aluminium liner? Does that need a coating so it won’t rust - how’s it holding up?
Aluminum doesn't rust, shouldn't need a coating of any kind.
Could this go down to the mid to high 30s Fahrenheit
How is this thing holding up? I'm going to pick mine up today along with my silicon and supplies.
Still working strong!
@@NickDompierre Awesome!
If I want to keep this in garage … it seems like draining the water would cause a mess ..
Any tips on that process ?
I am wondering if buying a filter would make it better and not have to change water
Otherwise I will have to keep it outside where water can drain
Where do you keep yours?
Hey I just did this, but I was wondering do you need to set a compressor timer on the ink bird?
Thanks for making this video!
How is your ice bath holding up a year later with the selaant?
Hi nick my question is do i have to buy a chest freezer that works or is it fine to buy a broken one
Can you tell how tall are you and how much is your body weight ?
It will help me to choose the right size freezer for me
Thank you in advance and good bless you for your shearing and help

Hi, great video! I actually built one of these and it works awesome. However, the inkbird temperature controller for me did not stop at the desired cold temperature. It actually went way down. Do you have any troubleshooting ways to fix this? Thanks.
Plug the freezer into a cheap timer
What did you have the actual freezer set to? The recommended “4”?
Anyone used raptor truck bed liner?
Hi Nick, thanks for your content, helps me trough a rough time. great regards
You’re welcome! 💪🏼
I love this video! Thank you!😊
Is this really safe as long as you unplug it before going in? How about some electricity still in the freezer even while unplugged? Could that be dangerous?
How did you get the top to open enough to get into it
Nice. We live in Montana. I'm wondering if I can just fill the tub since what comes out of the well is freezing! :-).
A very good video Nick. I am new to ice baths. I'm looking for the easiest and least expensive way. I like the idea of using a freezer for the price but also for the space it takes. I live in a condo and the space available inside is limited. So, thank you for the valuable information.
Thanks for watching!
So many other DIY videos saying not use the aluminum and then to use pond epoxy which seems like a real hassle, Have you had any leaking issues?
Thank you very much.
Very helpful. Clear and very well explained.
You’re welcome!
