It’s not everyday you get to see a manually controlled elevator, let alone a tall high rise one that’s 38 floors. These are awesome elevators And I love the beautiful main elevators too, they are tastefully moded and I’m glad they still kept the original fixtures. I’d love to ride these at some point.
Great video.. You got a great video of the freight mine sucks, because I was in a rush and at 2:28 when you asked if there gearless they are they have a thyssenkrupp tac50 Controller but the freight motor is still original. Also it was great talking to you on the phone today
06:00 That view up the shaft was amazing - very nicely lit also (which flashlight did you use for that?). 07:12 Love old fashioned light bulb panels like this one. Imagine the wires that were needed to produce this - must all have travelled through the trailing cables from machine room to lift car.
I'm amazed at how well the flashlight did! That's why I always carry a similar Cree LED bearing light with me when I film elevators. The ones I have are about 1000 lumen and 1800 lumen. www.amazon.com/Ultrafire-501B-Lumens-Power-Flashlight/dp/B0079EP0KK/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1468547903&sr=8-1&keywords=ultrafire+501b www.amazon.com/Convoy-Groups-Modes-Flashlight-Upgrade/dp/B00XW5PQ04/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&qid=1468548127&sr=8-5&keywords=convoy+m2
I believe My grandson Jared showed me a video of him riding these elevators. And Mr. Reams I been watching some of your videos and I never knew how much and elevator does to get you floor to floor. Keep up the good work.
Installed in 1932, partially modded in 1970, and it's still original and still in operation in 2024! Also, an enthusiast from Ohio recently got to ride this after hours...
That golden passenger elevator I will say is very nice looking. As far as that freight elevator, that moves very fast for it to be that old. Dieselducy have you been to Chicago yet because there are plenty of elevators to go around in this city that you can get on?
Likely the highest rise manually controlled elevators in the world: Former tallest manual elevator: Empire State Building, NYC (freight cars, sadly modded in c. 2012) Likely the tallest working manual elevator that still exists: Chrysler Building, NYC (freight cars, still original as far as I know, Otis I think) Would love to see this one filmed but it doesn't seem likely.
@NYT2002 TH-cam never notified me of this comment, but I happened to come across it. I think I saw a photo of it on Instagram. I think the photo was since deleted.
WOW no kidding that is an EPIC service elevator. Looks like tons of fun to ride. Excellent job on the video too!

excellent looking brass elevator. in the service elevator how does he see where the floor calls are?
Like all manual service elevator’s, they all should have a buzzer or bell to signal the people on it that the elevator has been called.
4:33 wow
HEY ANDREW. I DID'NT KNOW THAT WESTINGHOUSE MANUFACTURED ELEVATORS. WHEN DID THEY GET INTO ELEVATOR SECTOR. WE DONT HAVE THEM IN NZ
1930s-1989, and only in the US, maybe Canada, France, and Germany
Dang how many elevators are there total in that lobby!?!?!?!

DieselDucy What are the names of the songs in 0:03 and 7:13?
interesting that the counter weight is behind the elevator and not on the side
And how do you draw so funny print on the photo ? through which program ?
These still have selectomatic buttons from the 70s despite the more recent floor indicator mod
The logic, & indicators have been replaced, but fortunately, the fixtures are still original from the 70’s.
Was that indicator original
They've since covered the ceiling in the cab. You can no longer see up the shaft.
Ok
What about the low rise elevators
I have a theory that the new Hampton inn Roanoke tour trailer is next to be uploaded 😀😀
That elevator is not manual anymore. It has been modernized to automatic since its installation.
No it’s still original, both this one and the low freight.
I just went to Reynolds ville pa
The motors are gearless
BADams Survivor Fixtures.
Nope these are the original Westinghouse buttons from the 70s
***** But the fixtures are kinda like BADams Survivor.
+ElevExplorings by RileyElevators i ridden these a few times there Westinghouse look at a video of Adams and Westinghouse and look at the difference
