      Thanks I'll try that next time. But I have a big butt, so naturally I have a sink in that area which makes it harder to hold without putting pressure on my lower back.

      This is just not true. You do not "naturally have to sink in that area", you need to strengthen the muscles that support your back in a natural neutral position the way the spinal bones are meant to align. Don't give in to what "feels easy" now, a few weeks of training and a proper flat plank will feel normal again. If in doubt if you are doing it right (ie: experiencing a lot of pain) you might consider paying for a session with a personal training just to check your form.

      Barbara Cooke You need to start by getting strong from feet up , push heels back , tighten your leg muscles followed by tightening of glutes (hips) muscles and active back suck in belly which means activate yr abdominal muscles .. Similarly keep shoulders active which means do not allow your body to sink between your shoulders .. and breathe .... If you are able to hold all these muscular contractions isometrically for some period of time Only then should you try to do it for 5 mins ... It looks easy in video but we forget the amount of preparation that has gone into bringing her body to a level of fitness to be able to do this ... If you are not ready for it , you will only end up hurting yourself .

    Wow! This is harrrrd! My tummy started shaking as soon as I got in plank position and midway through the third plank I caved lol. Even if I have to pause this video and take breaks I'm determined to get through it. What a challenge!!!

    I managed to complete the challenge at my 4-th attempt even though I was doing classical situps before. This is just different type of abs workout and more efficient I believe.
    I am doing this workout regularily(2-3 times a week) maybe for three months and each time it's easier and easier for me to withstand all the way through, to the end.
    This is an exellent combination of planks. I am a male, and I know those are women's exercises on Your channel, but I believe this particular challenge is enough for men too, at least for those who want to maintain the shape.

      Yes! It's probably the most difficult exercise in this routine for me. And I've done at least one other routine that also incorporated it, and had the same challenge-it was one of the most difficult things to do with how much arm strength it requires. 😅

    Been planking much easier than this for about 6 months. Yesterday I increased the intensity to slowly work my way up to this because this looks intense! Maybe I should just go for it and collapse when I cannot continue until I can do it like one of the comments. That comment says keep trying until you can complete this took 3 weeks daily. Maybe I could do it in a month because I only plank 4 days a week (Mon Tue Thurs Fri)...

      Same here-my focus right now is on my abs, but my arms were the thing suffering the most here. XD Funnily enough, they also seem to be the area that's benefitted the most with the various workouts I've been doing.

    I've been doing a 30-day TH-cam workout video challenge for myself where I complete a different workout everyday for 30 days. The goal being to learn about what I like for working out and developing a routine where I workout everyday in the morning. I use Yoga videos for stretching or Restorative Yoga on my rest days to keep me in the habit and reap the benefits of deep stretching.
    I have used several of your videos and although they kick my behind every single time and I may need to take extra breaks they are easy to follow and I feel accomplished. Well organized with showing the time, the move, and not being overly chatty while doing the moves.
    I think when I'm done I am going to create a 30-days with Joanna workout.
    I really liked this one!! It was tough, but effective and I know to use it regularly would be beneficial.
    Does anyone use her videos regularly? If so what videos and what does your routine look like?

    How would one scale this? Is it meant to be scaled in the first place? If so, do we extend the 30 second intervals or keep the intervals but extend the duration of the workout from 5 to maybe 10 then 15 then 20? Thanks!!

    You should alternate the hand that pushes you up for Nr. 6 "Plank up-down"! Good exercise but you have to do it right.

    I use this and the squat challenge as my fitness test friday workouts.. to kind of examine my progress. It's hard, but eventually it becomes fun. :)

    This is a good exercise set.
    During the up and down plank, if your spine is not straight, it is not much of a plank.
    Using a spotter might help in improving that, or slowing the pace there would be beneficial.
