Great video. You cover it all. I actually discovered the opposing grip myself a few years ago - just made sense as a compromise grip. Shoot my best that way but still my consistent bad is straight left - very far left. I used to be a slicer. I think my big problem and most viewers is to find something like this - and then go to the range and practice 1/4 or 1/2 swings with some good results for a few dozen balls. You think you have it, get very bored, and quickly move to full swing. No longer works! You have not yet re-programmed the brain. Keep doing the 1/2 shots for many buckets before trying to make a little bit more of a full backswing. It takes a LOT of un-programming before re-programming happens. Easy to say but I still don't want to waste a jumbo bucket on the small stuff! Takes a LOT of patience. Thanks . Will watch more of yours.
Thank you for the video, you make a lot of sense! I've gone thru all the issues you talk about and now I have a beautiful hook. I will try your swing at the range today.
Thank you so much. This has helped me greatly. Every piece of instruction I’ve gotten has been: focus on shallowing, focus on clearing the hips etc. all of these “checkpoints” left me feeling robotic and disconnected. Your instruction has helped clear my mind and keep it simple. Ignore the negativity - awesome information!
Brilliant video - I've been struggling with achieving a square clubface. Sometomes its good, other times not. Have been trying to close the clubface in the downswing, but timing needs to be good. The grip element of this video, eith the opposing forces has been a revelation for me. The ball is consistently straight, which means i am more confident of a square contact and can concentrate on external visualisation of my shot. Thanks
Love it mate, my swing is ok but I sometimes lose my swing thought, and often have to remind myself of these checkpoints. Look forward to practicing these half swings and then working on my full swings. Cheers
You are so right with this!!!! Since I have been trying to shallow the club more I have been pushing it right, hitting behind the ball and hooking it😂 Thanks for this great video and explanations😊
This was great advice and very beneficial. For the first time I now feel a stable club face, and I can feel more where the clubhead is in space. Today, I did not feel that I was manipulating the club as I did previously. Very well explained indeed. Thank you.
The key to golf is your right shoulder. Bring your right shoulder down under your chin. Tbis creates side bend. All great ball strikers have side bend. The only way to create side bend is to drop your right shoulder. You wanna feel as if your right shoulder goes under the ball on the down swing
I like your move away from the ball, very good! I've struggled with too flat a shoulder turn i like the way your right arm stays above your left which is what I've been working on definitely helps get the shoulders on a better angle for me
I like the idea of simple which is why I’ve been trying to implement a Single Plane Swing. I’ve been doing well but do get a strong draw or straight right push at times and I believe you made a comment that I hadn’t heard ‘Opposing Forces’ on your grip. And I’ve retained a strong grip always cause well I was told never change the grip you are comfortable with therefore I didn’t. So now with season coming to an end I will bring my grip back, I like the left hand strong and will bring my right hand back to the middle; but will continue on the Single Plane. Thank you for your time and info.😊
The butterfly grip. Strong left, weak right. And squeeze. Works great on pitching as it keeps the face open square. Thank you for this really sensible advice.
Thanks, greatly appreciated. Same principle for the driver, or does hitting fractionally upwards mean you have to move your impact zone to the right for D-plane?…
I like your instructions. I agree the plane swing is best. Unfortunately, i cannot move my hips much, as I have a back problem. So I have adopted a very low swing that is somewhat on plane, but not like yours. Nice explanation of a on-plane swing.
Idk man. 75% through this video it was absolutely brilliant because there is a huge trend in golf right now where people are chasing a quick fix and TH-cam and Instagram has it all. I agree that the simple things sound easy to replicate, but they are incredibly difficult. Everyone’s golf swing is also unique and I don’t agree that your weak grip is the best and easiest… “Shallowing” also such a buzz word that people are using to try and teach him and get views, but is it way more difficult to do then people realize. “Bowing the wrist” is another hot topic when actually pros like Morikawa came out and said he actually tries to not do this, but it happens naturally for him. Overall, I think you are right that a lot of these trendy things require excellent timing. But everyone golf swing does..
You're not in the same swing plane throughout your stroke. You start with the club shaft intersecting your upper groin area (with a hands-down position), and finish on the downswing at impact with the club shaft intersecting your chest. It's a two-plane swing, and is more complicated, requiring more timing at impact than a single-plane swing.
hello alexander great video,iv been messing with my take away using lead arm dominant then changed to trial arm to no avail what’s takeaway swing thought, thanks
I've been playing for 16 years I've hit ever shot possible hole in one eagle birdies and an albatross You can go to the range and practice all day and for a short while you might the ball well it's the good and bad in your swing that makes it work the moment you make many changes you just might be taking away the 1 piece that makes it all come together if you do practice i recommend you practice from green back to 150 to 100 yards that is where low scores come into play. Lastly getting comfortable with your arms underneath you and in front will remove so many faults you can't expect to get into any of these you tube positions without getting posture and set up ball position for wait for it "your body" we want that pga look but let's master your swing and you will get those pga results
Mike can I please ask you, I have got the backswing and I've got the lower rotation , then..I'm a bit stuck am I simply continuing my rotation with the arms attached to my body through impact or am i releasing the club with my arms through impact . Hope that makes sense. Essentially i suppose what i am trying to say is once the back swing is complete are we finished with our arms and hands and its a body swing ? Many thanks for these gret videos Paul.
Amen, thank you! I just got into golf and have been watching hours of very complicated videos. This is so easy. Can you explain the opposite hand grip, or is there a video on that?
Hi Mike. Great content as usual! Any drills to help feel the chest rotation through the swing? That’s where I tend to get stuck and my upper body stalls out. Maybe I’m thinking of it wrong.
Could you also do a weak (1-2 knuckle) left hand and stronger right hand? Same opposing forces, but seems that allows more movement so maybe that is not good….
@@jumanji1109 well you can as long as you create opposing forces however as you say there’s more room for movement. So the grip I’m showing locks everything which I find makes stabilising the club face easier
Well taken. That's why, knowing that my hands and arms can go anywhere, when signing documents I use my big muscles. I also use my big muscles when playing the piano and eating. I certainly don't want my arms and hands flying all over the place.😆
So I played today following your instruction and golf was enjoyable again. 35mph winds and managed an 81 with a completely knackered back. I can hardly walk but I loved every minute of my golf in the wind and rain today. Thank you so much for sharing this video 👍
Very good video . Takes the technical shallow rubbish out of the thought process . If you look a tigers swing (The Goat ) there is no shallowing going on , starts on plain and comes back on the same path . Thanks
I have a big pull problem. I haven’t sliced for years. But I actually think I have an over the top move. But I’m assuming I have a square club face to the path because it can hit it a long way, but it’s straight left all the time. When it goes straight it’s weak and short. I’m going to try your tips.
Key is opposing forces that’s what keeps the club face stable! Position of the hands is important but the most important thing is that there’s opposing forces coming from each hand onto the grip!
Weak left makes the function of the wrists limited! Will bow wrists too much which is not the easiest way to use the wrists for face stabilisation and consistency
Sounds like Pete Cowen’s influence? Did you practice under him? I took a lesson from terry rowles who changed my grip like you show - strong left weaker right. But it’s hard after years of poor instruction.
Why not simplify the swing even further and *NOT* start with a two-plane swing? Setup like Moe Norman (Natural Golf, Graves Golf, etc.) with a single plane. That way you start your backswing/upswing the same as your downswing/thru-swing. That way there's no need to make lead-leg and spine straightening adjustments at the point of impact to square your club. Edit: see Kirk Junge as a middle ground swing plane setup.
Thanks for this.....I still don't fully get how you actually start the backswing......is it my arms taking the club straight back away from the ball or should I think of my right pocket moving behind me?
Feel like a putting stroke. Don’t let wrists take it back! Shoulders and arms until hands outside right leg! My next video is on the takeaway so look out for it!
Easiest way to fix a shank is to listen to the great Lee Trevino. He says to setup with the hands low at address. When you make contact with the ball, it will be with higher hands, which moves the Club towards you. You might hit toe shots, but never a shank.
Perfect example of why the golf swing can’t be learned on TH-cam. Take Tiger’s advice on this one. Yes there are swings that will require more timing than others, but even the most on plane swings require timing.
Is this the simplified version ? Im sorry but my brain gets jumbled when im told that slicers swing over the top , possibly 50% do the rest just try really hard to hit the ball on the arse and get a bit past the arc , do that long enough and you get a sweet fade 🤷🏻♂️… If you want to find your own swing and get u tube gurus out of your head just practice the feeling of throwing your pitching wedge and driver - first left field then right field and find your comfort zone , then - low point , ball position , face angle and path all fall into place .
