    Thanks Paul for your instruction. The key to all of this is that tension free approach you preach about in each of your segments. My teachable moment was your comments on hitting the ball with your hips and legs and not your arms. All of this makes total sense!!!!

      Glad you see it. All I am trying to do is get people to think differently and try something new. That old hitting down and hard will never work. If it did everyone would be good. Few are so they are doing something different than the majority. Stay focused. You are on your way.

    We call the takeaway the BACKswing not the UPswing. We then call the forward motion the DOWNswing, instead of the FORWARDswing. 😂 Paul makes so much sense in his explanations. Been watching the videos for years and it’s made golf fun.

    Thanks Paul...always great to see your vids. I can't agree with you more. Thanks to some of your other video's last year and your focus on the importance of the whole body's motion, I started thinking in terms of my little league skills. The body mechanics of both the throw and the swing reproduce some of the important golf swing mechanics almost exactly. For me, it was all about moving my lower body towards the hole before my arms started moving....exactly like throwing a ball or swinging a bat. People at the range thought I was nut practicing what looked like a baseball swing or throwing balls onto the range...until they saw my ball flight. I really believe that if more instructors describe the movements in the terms you use, many people will start feeling a body swing much sooner. As you implied, it was like an ah ah moment. In appreciation.

    • @paulwilsongolf
      @paulwilsongolf  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Glad you like them. Thanks for the support. You are totally in sync with what I am saying. With the ball in motion you would do this stuff without me saying on word about it. In golf the ball is stationary. Human nature is telling you to hit it and hit it hard. So you use your arms and hit not the body. What these people fail to realize is they learned as kids with minimal arm strength. If you learned as an adult from ball 1 you hit with arms due to human nature telling you to hit the object. Until you make the switch you will never get it. You would never do this in any other sport where the ball is in motion. Glad you see it and are getting it. Do daily practice swings.

    YES. I went to the range after watching one of your videos on curing the slice, and what I discovered was that I had been swinging wrong with my driver this whole time. Now I have the sensation of swinging "sideways" at the ball, much like a baseball swing. What I found is that my slice is GONE. If I mis-hit, if anything it is going LEFT. I gained distance, and cannot believe it didn't dawn on me sooner. And 100% it is due to watching your video. I have watched hundreds of videos looking for the "cure", and in all honesty had resigned to a strong grip and aiming left. Even considered a 1 iron! But not anymore. If you can get the sensation of swinging sideways at the ball I promise you it's going to help . Like numerous viewers have already said. THANK YOU!

    Hi Paul. Just wanted to say thanks. I studied your videos all night and had round with my pga friend. He's been telling me the same principle of a circle. But you helped with actual proof and set up tips and grip. I revamped with wholesale swing changes for this round. Using 100% no arms to hit. Or no up and down. He helped with course management on tee shots etc. Which was not my usual lol. However from senior tees yesterday and my own bad ideas lol and 80 to blue pro tees today for a 75 vs his 67 I'm getting to believe I can improve fast. Tyvm you really inspired me to retry your ideas

      Understand the arms do go up but they do so on their own. Why I did the tip is because a lot of people lift the club up right away. If you do that you won't get the coil. So it's coil and allow the arms to lift. I like the lead arm slightly above the shoulder plane at the top. These might help:

    • @paulwilsongolf
      @paulwilsongolf  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      The problem with no letting them go up is you could be too flat which is just as bad. You will know you're too flat when your shots are starting too far right and are weak push fades. As you train the arms to set the club they will go up there on their own. So you are not lifting them up forever. Just for a while until you know where the top is.

    Paul, I accidentally learned that taking practice swings on a severe (30 degrees....) uphill lie gives me the swing feeling that I think you are teaching here in this video. It has helped me a lot.

    • @paulwilsongolf
      @paulwilsongolf  ปีที่แล้ว

      @@paulwilsongolf Thanks for your reply. Yes, Paul, I do what you suggested too. I accidentally discovered this aid when I realized that I was always hitting my finest shots (accuracy, length, feeling, etc.) when I was hitting off a fairly severe uphill lie (ball 4 to 8 inches above my feet). Go figure. So I try to mimic that feeling just prior to my swing. It seems to work best with the driver and hybrids.

    Hello Paul, I think they think down because people say you have to hit down to compress the ball. One of my playing partners said that to me the other day. I told him I don’t even think about hitting the ball and proceeded to hit the ball 5ft. From the hole from 200yrds out and told him he needs to watch your videos😅.
    Keep up the good work, you’ve helped my game .

    • @paulwilsongolf
      @paulwilsongolf  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Exactly. I think I said that in the tip. in no way should you ever do that. I am not hitting anything and my club hits down and takes a divot. People have to understand "why" a divot occurs. This is why: th-cam.com/video/_ji_zykZlY8/w-d-xo.html
      So as you need no one is even teaching it because they think you need to hit down. Think like that and you will have a lifetime of hitting with arms shooting 90's and in pain. Once you get to 73 you will literally hit it nowhere. Stay loose!

    Your a brilliant instructor Paul, it’s taking some time for me to finally get it. I say over and over in my head, “hinge, re hinge” the around , around was always easy for men, but I simply needed to fully hinge, which I never did because I was afraid I was lose the club or miss the ball. Building the confidence by loosening the wrists and arms really changed my game!

    • @paulwilsongolf
      @paulwilsongolf  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The hinging and rehinging is a huge part of this. That is the clubhead speed. Just do it every day at home. I don't need you hitting balls working on this. The ball is the problem. You want to hit (which locks the wrists) while I want you loosening the wrists. Do it every day and in days, weeks or a month you will have it for life.

    A carry over from the instruction, the arms work up and down and the body moves the club around. Some how the fact the plane is inclined got distorted in the old approach. Nice clear explanation.

    • @paulwilsongolf
      @paulwilsongolf  ปีที่แล้ว

      As I said in the tip I don't want you swinging perfectly flat. That would be too flat to what I teach. As the club goes around it goes up a little so the lead arm is slightly above the shoulder plane. To me this is ideal. Glad you see it.

      Very good. Glad you worked on it and are ready to try it. Read:
      Taking it from the range to the course: you need to go out by yourself with 3 extra golf balls in your pocket. Don't keep score. Swing no more than 50%. Drop balls and hit extra shots. It is about actually trying something new when you play. If you keep doing your old swing when do you ever change? With driver, you pick a close target a few yards away or way way way in the distance that you cannot possibly reach. You cannot pick a fairway bunker at 250. This is a distance thought. So with new targets, your thought is to hit the fairway not hit it 250 down the fairway. Irons, I would be taking one more club and trying to hit the center of the green not the pin. Swing smoothly. Throughout the round you could be doing practice swings holding the club in the air hinging and rehinging to keep the wrists loose and other times you can be holding it in the air firing your legs and hips so you get used to the feeling of using them as the power source not the arms. Do this for a few rounds by yourself until you get used to a new way of swinging. Right now, if you play with others you will think distance and you will revert back to your old swing. It is all about doing something new. It takes a little time to get used to it. Also, don't forget to do daily practice swings at home.

    Hi Paul, a local pro that I played with in a charity tournament said I should get extensions on my irons as I am 6'4 and have had low back issues over the years.....thoughts?....it appears your swing style is way more upright? you commented below on the newer "rotational golf swing" being taught these days. why is that bad for low backs?...alot of them are trying to achieve a "passive/square" release I believe. Look forward to your thoughts as I am sure I'm not the only 52 year old tall guy with back issues that loves to play! thanks.

    • @paulwilsongolf
      @paulwilsongolf  ปีที่แล้ว

      Good idea. You need to be careful though. The longer the club the heavy it is. You extend them too much and the will be super heavy. So heavy you might not be able to swing them. At 6'4" maybe an 1" 1.5" but then you bend them upright to make them longer without changing the swing weight. I would have a professional fitter do it. Perfect your setup up first. My swing is just not bent over. This new swing is not dominating the tour so I will never teach it. I have always had a bad back. I have spondylolisthesis. My back never hurts playing golf. I have tried this new tilted swing numerous times now and every time I wake up with serious back pain. Just think, you are tilted. This compresses your spine. All you have to do is stand there then tilt over and hold this position. See how long it takes before you feel your back on fire. Then stand a little taller and you will have no pain. You will start seeing the injuries in the very near future. Morikawa is already squatting to tee up his ball. He is 26. I would have never thought of doing that. More injuries to come. You'll see.
      I am building a swing for life. Imagine a 75 year old trying to do that swing. Not going to happen. So I want you in a normal athletic position. Not too tall but certainly not bent over too much. The way you can check is that you cannot clearly see your toes when you set up. Peripheral is fine. Don't clearly see your toes at set up.

    I’ve heard it said that a golf swing is basically an unnatural act. After watching and applying a number of your tips, I can say unequivocally that that little witticism is completely untrue. I’ve practiced your key concepts, like “around and around”, taking the arms out of the swing, hinging the wrists, using the legs and hips, and using a neutral grip, and I have to say my swing has never felt more natural and effortless. I’ve played for over 50 years, and my last two range sessions were the first times in my life I didn’t slice a golf ball. I know I’m not completely there yet, but I’ve learned more in the past few months watching and practicing your tips than I did in the previous five-plus decades of playing. I play this Wednesday, I’ll let you know how it goes. Thanks again for the clear, simple explanations that cut through a lot of the complex nonsense that’s out there posing as golf instruction.

    • @paulwilsongolf
      @paulwilsongolf  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Well, it's unnatural learning it as an adult because the ball is sitting there. Human nature is telling you to hit it and hit it hard. You turned your arms off. This now gets you doing what a little kid is doing. No arm strength you have to use the body as the power source. So yes, you can make it a natural movement. Just need to turn the arms completely off. You are well on your way now. No slicing is you releasing the club which is great. Stay focused. On the course swing at 50%. This will keep you doing it when you play.

    Paul, I am one of your biggest on line students. However the body swing looks so simple but I make it so difficult. I have truly been working on this and I won't give up. Wish I wasn't 2000 miles away from you or I would be getting lessons every week. I think I have a good practice swing but as soon as I step over the ball, it goes bad. Definitely better when I swing slow and easy. The loose wrist is a tough one for me. I won't give up. ..

    • @paulwilsongolf
      @paulwilsongolf  ปีที่แล้ว

      So make it simple. If your practice swings is good yet it changes when you put a ball down you are thinking of hitting the ball. You need to be thinking of swinging through to point B. Do you have my Body Swing book and videos? If so, this would tell me that you have not been working on it as I suggest. I teach the follow through first. 2 precise positions that you can do every time exactly the same and I cannot do them better than you. Do you work on grip, setup and follow through first. You do daily practice swings until perfect. Then you add the coil then the hinge. Get that and you look like a pro when you swing. Pros have the right fundamentals. Look like them then you have them too. Final step turn off your arms in the down and through swing. It is that simple. Literally in 4 positions I can make you look like pro. Why would you not want to look like them as you swing. The problem is the ball. People want to hit while I want them to do the moves. See the disconnect. Stop hitting many balls and do way more practice swings learning the positions I teach. Build the swing. If you get the swing you get the ball. If you keep trying to hit the ball you never get the swing.

    Great video, Paul, as usual. Your idea of soft wrists has improved my carry distance.
    I've always thought that most golf pros, if not all of them, say that it's a bit of both around (when you take the club away) and up (when you fold the trail arm). On the downswing, it also does both down (at the beginning of the downswing) and around as you tilt your body back to allow the club to hit the ball.
    Off-topic question: how come most golf pros I've seen on TH-cam do not address real-life on-course strategies, such as, you hooked the ball into some trees and you need to keep it low on your next shot or you slice into some trouble on the right and you need to hit it high over some tree limbs? Most videos I've seen only focus on the golf swing itself and not on problem-based learning.

      @paulwilsongolf  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Glad you are loosening up and seeing the results. If people see that why on earth would they ever swing tight ever again?
      I want you thinking around and around. It will go up on it's own. If you think up of course you (like everyone else) will overdo it then go too high up and try to hit down. Think around and around and see what happens. I did say in the video I don't want you too flat.
      The reason they don't do those tips is because no one will watch them. People keep asking about short game tips. I do one and it is the worst viewed tip on the channel. The problem there is one bad tip and it it affects all of your tips. I have some on course ones I will be doing in the near future.

I do a movement and the ball is hit. big difference. All you have to do it see it differently. Work on hinging and rehinging first until you can hook every ball. At this point you need to remember this feeling as you switch to firing your legs and hips to hit the ball (differently power source). If it was as easy as hitting with the arms wouldn't everyone be good? Few are good. Few still are really good. The ones who are good are using their bodies not their arms but we did learn as kids which is a huge advantage.

    I think this relates to your old videos with the Iron Byron swinging machine. The Iron Byron does not throw the club at the target or at the ball, it does not let go of the club. It swings the club in a circle using one arm and a free hinging "hand". It gets its amazing accuracy and consistency by swinging one circle by having no body rotation and no weight shift, the part that moves is similar to a golfers shoulder so Iron Byron does not have moving hips, pelvis or spine,. It just makes one circle preset by the setup position. But the human anatomy cannot move and function like the one armed Iron Byron machine. So that's why your circle is different on your backswing then on your thru swing. Also your joints have cannot free wheel rotate 360 degrees, so even though you are trying to swing the club in a circle it will not be a perfect circle. But you are trying to swing the whole club in a circle or circular motion, you are not trying to hit the ball with the clubhead.

    • @paulwilsongolf
      @paulwilsongolf  ปีที่แล้ว

      Everything I teach is based on Iron Byron still. If you lifted the machine up so it was vertical it would go around and around.
      -------------------------------
      "The Iron Byron does not throw the club at the target or at the ball, it does not let go of the club. " - That is because the arm is a piece of metal. There is no power in it.
      -------------------------------
      It swings the club in a circle using one arm and a free hinging "hand". The arm is the left arm in the backswing. The right arm in the through swing. This is how you get a one armed machine to copy a 2 armed golfer. Left arm extend back and down then the right arm extends in the through swing.
      -------------------------------
      "It gets its amazing accuracy and consistency by swinging one circle by having no body rotation and no weight shift, the part that moves is similar to a golfers shoulder so Iron Byron does not have moving hips, pelvis or spine,." - The machine was made to test shafts to it is 100%. Yes, it does a perfect circle because it is made of metal. We are not. The driveshaft represents the golfers upper body (waist up). The motor is the golfers legs and hips.
      -------------------------------
      "It just makes one circle preset by the setup position. But the human anatomy cannot move and function like the one armed Iron Byron machine. So that's why your circle is different on your backswing then on your thru swing." - The machine was modeled after Byron Nelson's golf swing so yes, we can copy the machine. - In our golf swing we have 2 axis. One in the backswing, one in the through swing. So our swing is an oval. The machine is a circle because it has to be 100% to test clubs.
      -------------------------------
      So to copy the machine you need to do the 3 elements of the machine. Are you going to do them 100%. No. No golfer can because there is lateral in the human golf swing. The element are:
      1. Circular body rotation
      2. Unrestricted hinge.
      3. Constant forward tilt
      Those are the 3 things I have been teaching since 1999. My first 8 years were spent making people copy pros. All pros copy the 3 elements of the machine. This is the inventor saying this. This is what allowed them to have a machine concept. ALL pros have amazing similarity in their swings.

      Yeah, no way I will ever change what I teach. I get unreal results in minutes. Nothing is going to make me get people there faster. Just need to understand it and do a little work. The ball is problem. Everyone wants to hit so the faster I get people to stop thinking like that the faster they get it.

    Man I’m trying hitting balls all day I can’t grasp this I’ll hit few clean then hit s bunch off toe hosel thin fat few more nice then bad again I’m hinging I’m trying it all I can’t get it to work and this is my last hope before I finally give up

    • @paulwilsongolf
      @paulwilsongolf  ปีที่แล้ว

      Toed shots are you standing up.
      Thin - hitting with arms standing up.
      Hosel - hitting with arms leaning forward.
      So you are still hitting with the arms. Just use this tip as a thought. Make it simple. You thinking of going around and around as opposed to lifting your arms up and hitting down.
      Right now, you need to stop working on a ton of stuff. You are ONLY working on your arm unit hinging and rehinging.
      Just sit there every day doing daily practice swings doing the drills below. If you hit balls do some drills then hit a ball then do practice swings and hit another ball and so on. It's about repetition. Over and over until you loosen your wrists. This is step 1. Once you get that you start firing your hips. That is step 2. Can't get to step 2 unless you get step 1.

      Coming from baseball this should be a no brainer. Also, a thought that I had just the other day is as you are setting up to the ball and waggling imagine the club is a baseball bat. Feel the weight of it. In baseball your arms are like jello. I don't have to say one word to someone about loosening up when I get them thinking baseball so this is the same feeling in the arms in golf but you have to tell yourself to do it in golf because the ball is stationary.

    I know there is feel vs real. I see your hands below your belt at address, but as high as your shoulders at the top of the backswing. I know the tilt will effect that, but I guess I am still confused. I am not doubting anything you say, but more saying please be patient and keep teaching us.

    • @paulwilsongolf
      @paulwilsongolf  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      In the tip I said not to be too flat. The thought is around and around. If I told you to go around then up you would go up too high just like everyone else then you would hit down. I no way am I doing hitting down. As you see my arm is slightly above my shoulder plane. This to me is ideal. So think around and around as I said then let me know what happens. Tee it up and start with a 7 iron. Do high swings then slowly lower the club until you get the the ball then apply the very same feeling.

      Perfect. That is half right. You have the spin. You don't have the direction. So you keep the feeling of the release that you are now doing. Then you switch to firing your hips. If they start first you will hit it dead straight. Watch me do it:
