I agree, me too as I am staying around 85 & low 80’s with occasional high 70’s…..now I just need to figure out how to get below 80 more consistently. (Always hungry to, improve!)
@@Guy-t5bif you have mastered course management and the way of the playa but you are struggling to break 80 it’s time to really analyze where you are losing most of your strokes and coming up with a plan to work on that part of your game. Lessons might be in order to work on mechanics. Maybe you need to work on chipping and putting a bit extra
Just broke 90 for the first time this weekend and ironically on the hardest course I’ve ever played. Didn’t take any wood out of the bag hit 4 iron off the tee every time didn’t lose a single ball and shot an 85
These videos will never get old for me. It is the perfect combo of tips and humor for me. Please never stop making videos. Idk what I will do if I'm 80 and cant hear you call me a stinky-winky everyday. Apreciate what you do MAtt.
matt is really one of the few that actually give legit tips on how to play and get better instead of "fixing" your game/swing etc. keep up the good work.
Just broke 100, today. 2nd season of golf ever and took to the way of the Playa like a moth to flame. Just have to tune up my approach play and breaking 90 will be within reach. Appreciate the consistency and reminders to stay true to the Way of the Playa.
Word of advice for athletes/strong folk getting into the game: if you can mash your over 270 yards, you can hit an easier club 200-220. This is the tee shot you need to rely on while you keep the driver mostly reserved for the driving range. Every now and then, let that big dog eat. You got a wide open fairway with a lot of space on your miss side with the driver? Go for it. Get comfortable with the driver on the course by SLOWLY implementing it on holes that won't punish you too bad if you slice/hook it 50 yards. Us big hitters are punished for our distance. The reason is simple: the farther the ball goes, the farther off the center line it goes the direction you missed, no matter how small. Utilize your power and put an easier club to hit in your hand until you get better. 220 between the trees beats 290 on the other fairway (usually 😉)
Since watching your videos and adopting the way of the Playa, 7 of my last 8 rounds have counted towards my handicap. It has come down from 15.6 to 13.8. No massive jumps but a lot more consistent. I have only been hitting shots that i have 90 confidentiality with, doing heal up chipping, playing away from danger, planning where i want my approach shot to be from rather just hitting as far as I can. Some of my buddies have called me boring but say "it's not boring when your scoring". Going to keep practising short game over the winter and try to get down to single figures next year. Gutted the season is coming to an end hear in the UK but feeling positive about my golf going forward. Keep up the good work Matt
Thank you for another helpful video. I am confident I will reach 90 by the end of our golf season (6 weeks left max) I started my season in late April with a 118 by May 23 111, 108 the next week. Last week I shot a 96, 95, 92, 97 , I am focused on staying out of trouble, using the clubs I’m confident in ( as you have said) , I’m thinking positive and will be disappointed should I not achieve my goal. Cheers from Canada
Even though I'm breaking 80 pretty regularly, these 'higher' handicap videos are absolute golden. Cant get enough. A good reminder that it ain't that serious and not every shot should be an absolute dart down the fairway. I hope my gf who's just starting out will take this content to heart. Keep it up
Another great video. Just wanted to say thanks baus for all the great content. I had a 2 month layoff due to a herniated disc and sciatica. I’m back playing and thanks to the way of the playa I’m scoring better than ever. Just shot a 41 for 9 holes. 5 pars, 4 bogeys and zero 3 putts. Played to my strengths and not to someone else’s idea of perfect golf. Not too bad for a 67 year old who doesn’t hit it farther than 205.
Used lessons to learn from the green back. Able to practice putting a la Matt and now 32-33 per round! Chipping lesson happened just before a Hurricane so not able to practice enough but have a clear idea to use 56/50/8 iron but do use my putter when able with noticeable improvement. Hurricane cancelled the iron play lesson and moved to getting off the tee. Taught how to draw (was a banana slicer!) and now play the fairway and left side of the course 9/10 times. Lost balls from 3-4 per game to not losing a ball for the first time since mini putting! Keep going with your philosophy BECAUSE IT WORKS!!! Ken from Kanada
When your swing is bad you said use the punch shot or the half swing. That was my last round. I was terribly stiff and never got comfortable at all. Irons as a half shot ARE something I have used all my life. Ugly round. Got out of there at 91. Usually, on my home course, which is where I played, I can easily get an 84 to 88. Folks, that tip is a keeper. Anyone can hit a punch shot straight, anyone.
Trust this process , it works. I've been averaging to 97- 105. Today I shot 87 in a new course ,playing only 7 clubs off the front senior tees . My go-to tee off club was a Cobra 7 wood. Used driver only once. Talk about confidence boost.😊
Been using your course management advice this entire golf season. Now scoring in low mid 80’s and had rounds where high 70’s was in reach. Thanks for the advice and encouragement.
I had a breakthrough today! I shot a 31 on a par 3 course today, only +4. Irons were mostly money, very confidential all around. The greens were heavily trodden with deer prints, duck and goose poop, and pine needles, yet no 3 putts. Made 5 GIR.
Matt your instructions are spot on the hard part is always following them . We must always remember that just being able to play this game is always the best!
One of the best things I did that you told us in another video was to leave my ego at home and switch my long irons over to hybrids. I have a 6-3 hybrid and it was a game changer. That 6 hybrid is a cheat code.
One thing I would add about swing mechanics is that it sometimes helpful to watch a video which is a digest of the advice you already got from a pro. It can be a good way to visualize a problem you’re already trying to solve, e.g. going over the top.
Love your videos. Last fall I broke 90 regularly then I got so serious my scores went up and up. Now I am trying to get back under 90. Currently healing from having a new hip put in two weeks ago. Dying to get on the course. Great videos
Big THANK YOU PLAYA! I watched your break 100 video, applied it to my game, and accidentally broke 90. 88 today, best score before was 96. I had so much fun! I guess I'm ready for this video.
Thank you Matt. Got my first set of clubs 6 months ago and broke 80 this weekend thanks to your advice. Put down the 60 degree and started playing high percentage shots. Thanks my boet! 🇿🇦
Wow. Thank you so much man. Watched this video the day before my round and shot an 82. I have trouble breaking 90. I just played smarter and it changed everything
I am now breaking 90 about half the time. Keys to my thinking are to make more pars than double bogeys, and VERY SELDOM anything worse. By avoiding penalties and "blowup holes." Matt's strategy makes this doable, even for a short- hitting old man.
I’ve been watching your channel for a while and yesterday, the penny dropped. Playing a short par 4, downhill 180 then uphill 100. Everyone gets their driver out and tries to eagle. Or; they go for the 220 island with a 3 wood and chip up. I got out my 7 iron, and mishit slightly to the left. 100 to the green, steep uphill. Hit it clean with my pitching wedge, on the green for a birdie look. Everyone plays for eagle/birdie on this hole and blows up, but the smart move is to play for par and get a birdie look. Anyhow, thanks for the videos. That’s what I learned.
Thanks Matty Boom-Boom! Bad luck however for me: I live in western North Carolina and my course was basically destroyed with the recent Hurricane and subsequent flooding. Looks like 6-9 months of practice for me until my course is repaired. At least my house survived with minimal damage.
I bought my first set of nice clubs in January of this year. when I first found matty boom boom in February I was shooting 115-120. Since then I have qualified for the US open and the masters only to be thrown out for wearing too much sunscreen with my bucket hat:/. Thank you matty boom boom for making me the best golfer no one will ever see…
I'm so close, I set a personal best 2 weeks ago at 91. I know I left shots on the course, like the 2 strokes it took me to get out of a bunker midway through the back nine or the couple of times I tried to power through a bad lie and just hit it fat, hurt my thumb a bit, and watched the ball go about half the distance I needed it to.
ive broken 90 8 of the last 10 rounds ive played. at the start of this year i broke 90 1 in every 4/5 rounds.ever since watching these videos i dont hit driver almost at all anymore, get the ball in play and go from there.
Yep, a lot of this advice seems simple but so many of us don't practice it on the course. I know I didn't for a very long time. I'll never be a consistent under 75 player but I routinely break 80 and live in the 78 to 85 range largely because I stopped doing the dumb things and letting penalties and being in easily avoidable bad spots ruin my score. One of the courses I play has a creek down the left the entire way to the hole and a large hill with trees on top that will eat the ball if you go left. But it's short and has a raised tee box so you feel like you could reach the front edge with a great drive. And, on occasion, you can. But what happens more often than not? Ball in the creek for me or a ball in the trees for some of my friends. Hmm, what to do. Oh, how about hitting the 20 degree hybrid and leaving yourself an easy 80 yard sand wedge to a green large enough to catch even a 20 yard miss. Haven't been more than 1 over on that hole since.
After playing for close to a year now and following the way of the playa for about 6 months I finally broke 100 last week with a 93. Thank you Matt. Hopefully within another few months I can start to crack under the 90s!
3:30 even with this you have to be careful. I was aiming my feet right for so long it looks natural (looks straight). My instructor called me out on it and I was like nah bruh. He proved it on camera. Not a huge deal I could hit it straight, but something to watch out for your eyes play tricks. Also was worse the longer the club so driver is the only time I adjust now and just aim my feet what feels a tad left.
Matty boom boom. Like u said see it feel it do it- or something like that I’ve been way better. 100 on the nose the other day missing 6 three footers. I’ve seen my potential. Signed ur loyal student
When I was shooting around 100, I would get into a rhythm of hitting the ball beautifully but then I'd film myself, watch swing videos and change my swing. Hit it like ass all over again. Then I stopped watching swing change videos and just watch what the ball was doing and figured it out from there on my own and my handicap dropped down quickly
The shot where you had 150 to the front edge of the bunker, your swing was so care free, that right there is what EVERYONE needs to understand. CAREFREE
Test fit shoes, buy the most comfortable pair. Make sure you can walk comfortably for a distance. If your feet are comfortable and not on your mind while playing, that is all you can ask for.
Another great video Matty! I’ve noticed you always pull the pin. MyGolfSpy did research that you are always better leaving the pin in to make more putts. Now you’re a baus at putting, but in a future video, could you address why you feel it’s not or maybe after seeing their video you might change your thoughts? Thanks!!
I don’t know the research on that idea but i will bet they just hit putts way too hard at the hole like someone talking 45 putts per round. If you know how to control speed on a putt then there is no need to have a flag to stop ramming it crazy past the hole. You have a choice in golf. Learn to roll the ball to maximum 18 inches beyond the hole more often, where the flag stick will be irrelevant, or rely on a flag stick to stop our horrendous putts lol 😆 I also would want to know which grass was used. Bent, poa, fescue, bermuda, artificial turf? Any slope on the putts? How much percentage/degrees. Which flags were used? The flexible ones or the stiff thicker ones? Who hit the putts? Was it a lame robot style of testing?
What would you think on tee shot setup, if I always line up the line on the ball to the target, about then it no longer adding value to look up to your target? Seems like if you line up the ball perfect and setup to the ball, that should be enough (and perhaps not “too much”).
Love the video! Just ordered a polo and divot tool from your site. Do you know if you will ever have the Confidential Putter in lefty? I love the look of it, and would love to have it in a left handed model.
I nevwr comment on videos, but this video was game changing. Broke 90 for the first timeski today. Will never watch any golf tips and just play the game i have.
I came in at a 91. After 4 rounds: no score, 103, 94, 91. GIR and FIR are money, but I still lack maximum confidentiality on the 50-yard chips and on the greens. I'll GITF on the green next round.
Thanks. This video really helped me on the course yesterday. Do you have any thoughts on Erika Larkin's book "A True Swing"? Her philosophy seems to match up with yours as far as getting yourself messed up with too many swing thoughts. Just curious.
I land on Phuket in 47 days Playa. I didn't know you had the same shirt as me, that's mint. Where did you get it? I got mine from a strange guy on youtube.
I’ve mentioned it to him so many times. I think he does it on purpose! He likes to slang words around because he is the baus! Also, I think he is in the witness protection program with the bucket hat (golf cap on occasion), Elton John sunglasses and the slathering of colored sunscreen. No one know what he actually looks like. He is definitely an original keeper! 😂😂😂
Some of the best advice in the game of golf. I've followed your mindset to break 100, now it's time to break 90. I wanted to do it in Waddaplaya style, but when I checked out your polos I didn't see the watermelon print. Will it be back?
Thanks Matt. I used to average 95, I now average 85. Literally just playing smarter, and adjusting expectations - the way of the playa.

I came in at a 91. After 4 rounds: no score, 103, 94, 91. GIR and FIR are money, but I still lack maximum confidentiality on the 50-yard chips and on the greens. I'll GITF on the green next round.
50 yd toe down chipping practice for you
@NotAScratchGolfer is slinging tips from Thailand now. Seems like a classic Highlander situation. Please post the deathmatch.
Really!!! Where is he??
@@GolfSidekick Kirimaya Khao Yai. But possibly right behind you.
Damn! Mother lover
Can’t wait to see you in the next creator classic
Thanks. This video really helped me on the course yesterday. Do you have any thoughts on Erika Larkin's book "A True Swing"? Her philosophy seems to match up with yours as far as getting yourself messed up with too many swing thoughts. Just curious.
I don't know of her.
I am more in the Fred Shoemaker/Shawn Clement style
I land on Phuket in 47 days Playa. I didn't know you had the same shirt as me, that's mint. Where did you get it? I got mine from a strange guy on youtube.
Rule 5 reminds me of some wise words an old sage once told me. He said
"Don't get mad, don't get blue. Frankenstein was ugly too"
Golf Sidekick + seeing a PGA professional for golf lessons = you breaking 90 easy peesy lemon squeezy.
Confidentiality 😂😂😂😂😂
Matty Boom Boom
Matt my golf buddies don't understand your philosophy, I beat them every time but they will hit driver on every tee and in bushes.
Caddy is money with the divot fill! Barely looks and right on target!
Where's the birdie music?
I want a hat that says stinky winky. 😎
Way of the playa has changed my game. 85 is a bad round now
💯 % the day you stop watching swing mechanics on you tube by teachers looking to make money to see you in person to fix it. This the Ahha moment!
Most of them don’t even do it for that reason. It’s purely advertising revenue
Short term goal: stop going at the flag like a doe-doe head
Long term goal: stop going at the flag like a doe-doe head
Granny killer 😂
Anyone ever going to tell him that he wants to use the word “confidence” not “confidentiality?” 😅😂😅
Confidentiality is the key to the way of the playa!
100% on purpose, just part of his schtick
Why do I have to hit the ball in secret? Confidentially……?
It’s just one rule for me:
Do not hit it into the feckin lake on the 18th
So I watched generic golf swing videos on the youtubes and my score went from 95 to 75.
Oh wait, no. It went from 75 to 95. Never mind.
No. 666 thumbs up
Some of the best advice in the game of golf. I've followed your mindset to break 100, now it's time to break 90. I wanted to do it in Waddaplaya style, but when I checked out your polos I didn't see the watermelon print. Will it be back?
I learned how to break 90 but how do you fix a broken heart
Break 80
36 holes a day 7 days a week
