Impressed with Brad's coaching ability actually. He said a lot of things that really made sense as far as feel and simplifying swing thoughts.

To everyone saying that he needs to slow down haven’t tried to fix their swing with the yips. Normally slowing down is great but with the yips, being fast and athletic is the best way to get through them. Trying to simulate on course swings while also working on technique athletically is the best way. I spent 6 years going through this and this was how I got out of it

My yearly boys golf vacation was this last weekend and I developed a case of the “y” word. Started with shanks and transformed into dead pulls when I tried to slow things down with about a million swing thoughts racing through my brain. Using the tips in this video has already helped things after a quick hitting session. Your story and this video was very timely for myself. Hope Blake gets it all worked out! Cheers!

Brad is definitely right. Most people will swing better at higher speeds vs. slower speeds. There's a reason why very few pros have a slow takeaway and sometimes a pause. Most pros go through their routine, and then the second they reach their trigger, it's grip it and rip it.

    • @gymbrah
      @gymbrah วันที่ผ่านมา

Plus if you practice slowing down to much you can literally go into limbo and have to retrain speed.

Some people are fast twitch golfers including myself. Everything is just a little quicker. For me, it looks like I’m swinging super hard a lot when it is just normal for me. If I slow down then everything gets out of sync. Blake is the same way

i struggle with the same my hips are really fast and i struggle to get my upper body and arms synced to it so i either get stuck trying to swing from the inside or i could be like blake swining over the top for more space at impact but then i have slices etc

Keeping my take away extended out and aiming at the inside of the ball changed my game. I also like to feel like I’m keeping my lead shoulder pointed at my target just a fraction longer when I’m trying to start the ball right. I hit a lot of pushes though when I start right because my 25+ year old irons are about 2-3 degrees down on lie angle from where I need them.

Brad - just posted this on the page, but figured you may see this and be able to pass it along to Blake. One tweak will change his whole swing! (I coach to this all the time. )
BLAKE!!! Quick/Easy fix for you!!! It's your feet, brother! I work with a ton of guys on their snap hook or massive slice...it's ALWAYS the same thing. Your feet make the biggest difference...You're setting up with an "open" stance (aka your left foot is dropped). SWITCH YOUR FEET! It will change your life. When your open, it soooo much more difficult to swing out to the right because you're always going to catch your right hip, so you'll default to the over the top/yank to the left. Just switch your feet and drop your RIGHT foot. Now clearing that right hip and swinging out to the right will feel WAY more natural, and its damn near impossible to yank all the way to the left. This will also promote more of a draw. Let me know if you try it! Promise it will work, pal. Good luck!

I'm also a fast twitch golfer. I think the biggest thing I noticed though is he's often off balance. Fast movements are fine as long as they're controlled. If you're losing balance at all in the driver swing, that ball is going to go off course. Would also note that he sometimes overextends at the top of his backswing and struggles to get it back on course (I, also, had that problem for ages largely due to fast and uncontrolled backswing).

Props to Brad for doing this solely out of wanting to instill Confidence and Trust into Blake and his swing again! I, like a ton of other viewers, have been one thats quick to judge Blake and wonder where his game is at, but I think this gives a true glimpse into what A LOT of golfers (recreational-pro) struggle with at some point in their time of playing golf. Excited to see the confidence build back up in Blake and it transitioning to the course!

Brad does a great job of simplifying what most teachers complicate. Like he said, you don't want a bunch of micro-thoughts going through you're head, like dropping your arms to get shallow. The water bottle (I use a head cover) makes your body do that athletically, without even thinking about it. Good stuff, Brad, you should get back to doing these once a week. Having someone at your level & with your experience (US Open, Masters) doing the teaching, there are a whole lot of viewers that would love to hear *specifically* your advice on a number of things within the golf swing. Great lesson/video, can't wait for more!

I was having swing issues as well and did 2 things that truly helped me. 1 was to slow my swing down once I did that I was consistently hitting ball better and had a 2yard fade(what I wanted) when I go to fast I can instantly tell and remind myself. The second thing was extension like brad was saying. It’s all muscle memory but been doing it last 3 weeks been swinging so much better. Now I can swing my driver I wasn’t using it until my last 3 weeks. Used have the ball positioned in front of my left ft to help square my face and not slice now it’s inside my left foot goes straight to small fade.. i believe slowing of the swing which Blake might want to try goes just as far and extension really changed my game

Brad and Blake…..loved this video. Brad gave some real practical tips that don’t require a lot of thought because thoughts were substituted with tools (water bottle, alignment sticks, etc.) Aligning my feet and body is perhaps my biggest challenge. One observation: I understand you’re making a video and it is for the viewers but if you spoke more directly to Blake and we were just a fly on the wall, it might keep the video moving a little better / more naturally.

idk about anyone else, but I finally put a lid on my slices and fades when I drilled in the feeling of keeping a small ball between my elbows on the setup and then keeping the towel under my right armpit until I loose it right after ball impact. This has altered my swing, feels and my thoughts dramatically. And the result is alter-universal. My shots go straight w/o spin and I can actually produce a draw. And I added compression galore.

Blake's problem is the same one I struggled with for years. He has a tendency to get quick coming down from the top of the swing. It took me making what looks like a full pause to fix it ala Ben Kruper 10 years ago. It lets me get extension, make sure I turn, and get my lower body/weight shift started before my hands get out ahead. The ones where hes a bit more patient at the top looks much better. Doesnt require the full pause for Blake but hes making progress for sure and couldnt have a better teacher in Brad.

That eventually messes with your minds eye bc it feels like your body being behind the ball generates your power. When you opened your stance up, you were cash money!

Blake if you see this. I had this same issue. You are turning your shoulders more than rotating properly in the backswing. Causing you to be in a poor position and struggling to shallow.
Feel like your NOT turning your shoulder and your just trying to turn to the right with your arms in front of you and feel like your facing your back to the target. This should give you a ton more time and room to drop the club.
People that turn shoulders too much get inside and stuck.
When Brad is showing you how to be wide at 18min in, notice your rotation looks very different than your swing.

I think the death of many people with their irons, is coming way to far in their back swing and then they immediately throw the club out over the top. If you stop in line with your shoulders, nice and wide, you create all the space needed to naturally shallow.
I’ve been struggling with driver for the last 6 months. I finally realized I was coming back way inside and my ball would start dead straight for 150 then rip right and fall outta the sky at 200. I have a warm up drill before playing, that helped me to stop casting.
Swing the driver, slowly at first, ten to fifteen times, with the right hand, and watch the path of the club head, and slowly increase the speed.
Now, swing the driver, same way, with left hand only.
And finally, swing the club ten to fifteen more times, with both hands.
Not only does it get you to see and feel the path the club should be taking,
It warms you up before your first tee shot.
Tip: when you get to the top, smooth and graceful, like a ballerina.
Don't snap at the top your swing, and go into " kill it" mode.
Mr Short Hitter has a great swing
Smooth and easy, all the way through, and accelerate.
    Not snap.
    Smooth equals control
    Snap, no control?
The woods are full of long hitters?

Blake, don't think of re routing it inside.Think of getting to the top of your back swing, and you're very first move is to pull with your right elbow. Literally pull your right elbow into your side, and that is it just swing from there? So your first move from the top of your swing is pull that right elbow, like it's a string to the lawnmower and just rip it into your side

Have Blake put a bottle of water. Behind the club. Make him pull the club back and push the bottle back. out of the way. It will help I’m his extension.

One thing he could fix in his setup is stand closer to the ball. His iron setup looks like he’s about to hit a driver where he’s reaching for the ball too much imo.

I didn't see any change from 7:30 to 16:00. In fact, the first one looked better. No flying right elbow or collapsed lower body at the top. Like Matt, he lies the club a bit low on the backswing. Perfect swing. Seems more mental / alignment. That's what the word "yips" means. A physiologically induced spasm from nervousness or stress. It was once thought that the yips were always associated with performance anxiety. However, it now appears that some people have the yips due to a neurological condition affecting specific muscles. This condition is known as focal dystonia. Changing the way you do something can help. Why I, like most golfers, always hit better with a new club. This is also explains baseball batters' religious setup routine. And why the waggle is so important in golf. Waggle is defined as "the bridge between the address and the actual start of the backswing." (Ben Hogan, Five Lessons, 1957, p 65) It prepares for the needed path and the tempo for the wind and lie. The waggle, in other words, it fits the shot." Key to all martial arts is everything starts with breathing. In for the back swing, and a firm blowing with perhaps a light kiai out for the strike.
Watch JD Martinez looking at home plate, not the pitcher, to get ready:

Phil Mickelson's pre-shot routine starts behind:
    th-cam.com/video/UAY5tvlLIbQ/w-d-xo.html
Watch Ben Hogan spend far more time looking at the ball than the target:
    th-cam.com/video/JlEtR6WoEfg/w-d-xo.html
"In the waggle, the left hand is the controlling hand," says Hogan. Bob Toski writes in confirmation of the importance of a good waggle before swinging. David Leadbetter prefers students begin with a gentle motion a foot ahead of the ball.

Blake needs Shawn Clement at Wisdom in Golf on YT. He will hook him up! Width in the backswing is what he needs. Taking it back on the line he wants the ball to takeoff. He is too inside on the BS

Think he needs to watch his swing in slow motion he definitely really over turn on back swing then when at the top his body almost twist forward super fast and his hips push towards the ball and he’s up on his tippy toes! I think he really needs to slow down and try better it makes a huge difference! I just think the over turn on back swing is making him almost get stuck back there making it hard to turn through. I had that same issue for awhile until I slowed down to get my timing better!

Its not an overturn its a lifting the arms when body stop turning because he has 0 depth. so body cant turn anymore. the easiest was to fix this is just doing drills without a club and learn how the body should move. what he is doing now is just a product of a really bad body movement in th4 backswing

this is incredible. Brad great job. The old school lesson simply is drag the club as far as you can and let the turn raise it. Hogan Give Lessons. Pick that blade of grass. Hogan. Homer Adams. Folks there is a Golf Bible. Homer Adams did it first but Ben refined properly Illustrated and perfected. None the less. Bravo. When I meet these new wave douche bags at the golf course if you get in a conversation with them... throw some lines in the water and obviously look at their fucking wood covers and shitty Callaway clubs you know it's good good you tube shit show. They always ask me who is the best golfer I always tell them Brad Dalke. And Kwon. However Kwon by far has the best content of anyone in the TH-cam golf space. It is pure Willy Wonka, dead poetry 10 out of 10 scale. Charisma.
Blake, you are our great white hope brother. I ripped you on your first video attempt because it was just that. However now, you are the star, the open heart, in Gods name. A Blake, Trent, Frankie could get the kids to go back to church for Christ's sake. Anyways. Bravo. Bravo. Serenity Prayer, Memorare', etc brother. We are here. Carpe Diem
