    Got this book in jr high at a school book fair...20 yrs ago! It's a terrific book and movie...one of those lifetime movies you can just relax with tea and biscottis and chill out on a sick day...

    Reading the book I imagined her to look so different. The book said she had big curly red hair. I think this is the first time ive read a book before the movie and now i understand why people say the books are better.

      It's likely because people would rather see a traditionally beautiful girl as the main character than how they described her in the books. Aesthetics are everything.

      Whoever raises the child are the parents! Children are not property, they are human beings. You don't uproot a child from the only home, parents and life they have ever known after 13 years and say you are mine and you will live here. She was too old, almost an adult. I feel sorry for the Sands too, but the damage was done and irreversible. The Jessman's were her parents at this point and the Sands realized that in the end. As Mrs Sands said, she stopped being Jenny 13 yrs ago.

      Sorry I'm late to the party, just found this. I can't even imagine criticizing a kidnapping victim. This is going to take some adult thinking but try to imagine being a teenager and out of the clear blue sky, being told that you have to go live with total strangers. Every time I hear about cases like this, childish people say "well, send them back!!" It's not that simple.

      My best advice to you would be read the summary if you don't want to read the book. With movies, not everything is accurate. Go on litcharts to look up chapter summaries. Trust me, the website is very good. I read a few books from my school and I read the summaries to test the website and again, it's really good.

    It's interesting how the next door neighbor calls Jaynie's parents older parents when Jill Clayburgh and Edward Herrmann (hope that's the correct spelling) were only 31 years older than Kellie Martin (Jaynie). To me, parents in their forties and fifties starting out are older parents.

      @elainegouin4570 5 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      This is very true. I think about this every now and then. I mean you do see postings in different places, but not nearly enough, as when they posted the missing children on the milk cartons. It was so much more likely for a missing child to be spotted, because everyone buys milk. I used to always look at the missing child on the back of the carton. There's still a way to put the pictures on the plastic containers, or on some kind of product that people buy often, because everything possible should be done to find missing children. 🙂❤🤝

    • @victoriaabbey3525
      @victoriaabbey3525 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Sadly there are probably too many missing kids now. And on a less depressing note lots of people don’t buy milk anymore with all the alternatives now

    • @Sillyname123
      @Sillyname123 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think they stopped doing it because it was really depressing and scary to little kids and it wasn’t helping that much

    • @FeelTheLack

      The practice of putting missing kids on milk cartons was started in Iowa after Johnny Gosch went missing. They stopped doing it when Dr. Spock said that it frightened children unnecessarily.

    The girl who plays a girl who sees a picture of herself at age 3 on the back of a milk carton in this TV movie also stars in another TV movie which came out 3 weeks and 2 days before this one where she plays a policeman's daughter who marries a violent man who didn't become violent until after becoming a father but the signs were already there. He accused her of loving their first son more than him and he even insisted that one of them had to die when she was pregnant with their second child, so she shot him dead. Thankfully, she was able to start a whole new life. Both movies came out in May 1995 but on 2 different channels. The other movie is called "If Someone Had Known" and it came out on May 1, 1995 on NBC and it's also here on TH-cam. Just type in "Kellie Martin" or "If Someone Had Known" and it will bring it up. The girl who plays Jennifer is Kellie Martin.

    The Face on the Milk Carton is based on a (fictional) book of the same name. One day, a teenage girl sees a photograph of herself in the school cafeteria on a missing person report on the side of a milk carton. But her beloved parents would never kidnap anyone and there's a deeper mystery ahead.

    @DKDancers A series. There are actually 4 books, and the series is much, much better than the movie, way more suspenseful. (They're still only okay books, pretty much for middle/high schoolers, but definitely more interesting than the film.)
    Put in "janie johnson series" on Google, you'll get a Wikipedia article about it. There are 4 books, "The Face on the Milk Carton", "Whatever Happened To Janie?", "The Voice on the Radio," and "What Janie Found." The first two are the best.

      ramana95 Well, Kellie Martin did 2 made for TV movies which both aired in May 1995 but on 2 different channels. The last one she did was called "If Someone Had Known" which aired on NBC on May 1, 1995 where she played a policeman's daughter who married a violent man who didn't become violent until after becoming a father but the signs were already there. He accused her of loving their first son more than him and he even insisted that one of them had to die when she was pregnant with their second child so she shot him dead. Thankfully, she was able to start a whole new life and this one she did called, The Face on the Milk Carton which aired on CBS on May 24, 1995. This was shortly after A Goofy Movie was released in theatres on April 7, 1995 and long after "Death of a Cheerleader" aired on NBC on September 26, 1994.

    I loved this book when I was a kid, it's what got me started researching cults. (Okay, so I was a morbid kid. what?)

    @Annie- yes, and quite different. Spoiler: Reeve and Janie got a hotel room and almost slept together in the book. There were some pretty racy details in the book, too.

    Yep..got my hopes up even though I was told that the movie sucked. It's one thing when the movie itself was good on its own even though it left out parts..but it wasn't. To be honest..not only did it suck because it left out so much-but even some of the actors/actresses acting was iffy. Loved the books though. Read them in middle school and did a project on them but the movie was a train wreck in my opinion. If I had the funding..I could make a better movie than this. Hmm..not a bad idea.

    The book is sooooo much better! I imagined her to look so much different.in the book it said she had big puffy hair. Now I understand why people say that the books are better than the movies.

    don't you know her "parents" were peeing their pants when she started asking questions?? bet the bedroom talk THAT night was something to hear. I wonder if they were more worried about JAIL or her figuring it out?

    Who is the lady with the red hair, I can't remember her name but she's a favorite actress of mine. I just haven't seen her in a movie since the nineties and I was a kid then.

    I read the series a couple of years ago, when I was in 7th grade, and on Monday I went to a friend's house and the young girl was reading this book and as the huge bookworm I am I jumped up and down with excitement and I almost spoiled the book for her. Ooops :P

    I have a memory from the day i was born, nov 1 - 1986. I can explain the image i saw, from where (because i wast like standing really high), and what did i saw (I do have a really extremply good memory of my childhood, don't know why)... But after i told my parents years ago, they told me that what i saw, was when my dad took me to another room of the hospital i was born to meet my grandparents (and my dad was holding me). I remember the room, the colours of everything, everything. It happens.

    People say teenagers aren’t mature enough to deal with these situations. I think you don’t have to be a full grown adult to show empathy to others. She could have tried her best to get to know her biological parents, by sacrificing her own feelings of homesickness and still had a relationship with the parents that raised her. Why couldn’t she consider the suffering her parents endured and the consequences her siblings suffered because of her kidnapping.
    She was fortunate to have four loving and caring parents in the end why be selfish and hurt her own parents even one more day? It’s heartbreaking really 💔💔💔
