The Sands actions were so horrible. Janie hadn't seen them since she was 3 years old and they thought taking her to their house was getting her back. She didn't know them. The Sands took her away from everything and everyone she'd ever known and held her against her will. They kidnapped her again.
Actually she was kidnapping victim, so no it was high unlikely a judge would give her the choice. Personally I believe her bio mom was out of line, and took her feelings out on her daughter. She could of a beautiful relationship with her daughter, but was at odds with her for most of the time.
Back when this movie was made I believe 2 kids were found and this is what happened to them, no say. Courts did not even considered the child or other families feels saying that the child had been brain washed. Today, because of these kids back then, they have learned that all children are brain washed by their families. They do take into consideration both families and the child’s wishes. However, the birth parents take priority. The families must go to counseling and the child is seen by themselves as well. It helps with adjustments. In older kids cases like this one, courts would look at stability, financial ability As to were the child will stay but the other has weekly visitation. Does Not happen too often and both sides have to agree. It is a messy situation cause all parties are victims. Courts have ruled that older kids if they want can stay with the adoptive family. Younger kids like 12 and under have no say and go back to the birth parents with stipulations on visitation. That so far seems to be a good fix for all concerned.
She's practically an adult. She should have been able to choose where she lives and visit the Sands if she wanted. The decision should have been entirely hers.
Unfortunately back in the days when this took place, the fact that she wa kidnapped makes it harder. Hannah kidnapped her and took her to her parents saying Janie was her daughter. So that's what they believed. And as far as the Sands...well I can't say I totally blame them. They spent 13 years without their daughter. Praying she was still alive. So unfortunately they have very little choice but to put Janie back with her birth family. For all they know she's got Stockholm syndrome or something. It would be the same as if she had been illegally adopted. The court would side with the birth family as long as they are deemed fit. Regardless, its a lousy situation for all parties.
I remember watching this as a kid and knowing it was wrong to just up root her like that. The parents didn't even have a first meeting with their daughter to even find out how she felt about everything.
Janie didn't want to go, but the Sands had a right to see their biological child. The Sands didn't give her up; she was kidnapped by her adoptive parents' daughter and then made to be a grandchild. Janie has been lied to her whole life and so has her adoptive parents. They were all confused.
In modern times she'd be out in foster care and be given counselling and visits set up first But also then and now at 16 unless there's some state law in USA I'm unaware of, she would in most places be legally allowed to chose her own place and move out so long it as it was safe and could afford it
It’s been YEARS tho maybe she just been worried about other things like where her daughter might be still worrying what happened to her not her thinking about her allergy
Do you think about how the parents must feel knowing that their daughter is at someone else's house? If you had a child I think you would sympathize with the biological parents wanting their child home. For me, if I'd missed out on my kid's life and found them at her age, I would want guardianship as well. After all, I did love that child and I did have her as well. As a mother I understand how the biological parents must feel. No matter if they were good parents to the child, I would want her.
it's not in her best interest to just send her back without getting to know them first. yes they are her parents legally and biologically and they want her back but they need to make it as easy for her as well. how about they visit her at first and then work things out. I would think at 16 she would have a say in what happens also.
Not much concern for Jenny's opinion, it seems. It wasn't her fault she was lied to by her adoptive parents because their daughter lied to them, and since she's regarded them as her parents for years now, surely it would have been kinder to her to allow her to get to know her biological parents and siblings gradually, before just deporting her to live with them? I'd have thought that would be classed as "child abuse" nowadays. Jenny has feelings, too, and since all this has radically altered her life, she should have been in on the decisions. I think this was emotional abuse.
Even adoptions don't force kids to immediately acclimate to their adoptive families that soon. And there's no way in hell you'd call me by a new name, even if it was the original one. Let her live with the parents she knows and get to know her biological family on her own terms.
I just wanna scream "Stop calling her Jenny!!!" I know it would be hard, but they should have understood and respected that she is her own person and her name and identity has been "Janey" for as long as she can remember.
I get the legality behind all of this... but why wouldn't Janie get a say? and does no one realize how traumatic if would be to be taken from your home and made to live with strangers? .... i mean seriously
This must be so horrible and strange for her. But on the other hand, I'm a mom, and I can understand why the parents wanted her back, without even seeming to notice that she's like, "um, this is wierd, and I'm very uncomfortable!!"
@stilalover11 She's not mad at going to her biological parent's home. She is scared of leaving the one place she has known as her home and leaving the people who she knows as her parents. She's had a lovely life and they didn't kidnap her. They had believe Jennie was their granddaughter. Even kids who lived in bad situations would be scared to leave their homes and moved with strangers. Because to her, he biological parents are like strangers.
Please go to 6:30 on Part 7. She says that Hannah died of hepatitis 5 years ago. That was long after Hannah abandoned Janey at around 3 years of age, like 8 years later.
Numom looks and dresses like she's in little house on the prairie and Janie dresses like... IDK, much older than her age. I was in the 6th grade at this time (I think this is 1992?) - teens did not dress like that. We did wear the hiking boots with skirts but that was a little later so maybe this is 1994.
I Know they didn't raise you,But THAT'S YOU'R FAMILY! That woman gave birth to you and those people have been grieving over you for 13 years,Show a little respect,Be a little Gracious. Heartless.
I think it's because this movie moves at a faster pace than most Lifetime-type movies from this era, and there's more content. I was confused a bit mid-way through b/c we find out Hannah is Janey's mother, then, it quickly progresses to Hannah being a kidnapper. It starts out slowly, then picks up speed toward the middle and wraps up rather quickly. She didn't seem to stay at the Sands long at all. Most Lifetime movies are like soaps - they assume watchers are stupid so they move slowly... cont.
I think that's bullshit. Whether or not she's the Sands/Springs kid, you can't make a high schooler live with strangers. I would just keep running back to my "real" parents that raised me. I read all the books and I was pissed the Springs got mad that she didn't want to be called her original name and didn't immediately love them. Fuck that! You're strangers!
no,janies mother is mrs.sands, janie was kidnapped by Hannah javensen and Hannah took Janie to the people she was calling her parents when she was age 3
the birth parents are just wrong in this Janie is almost an adult -- THEY should have accepted visitation and not disrupted her life.. any "parent" who loved their child would have considered HER feelings FIRST
I'm just shocked by the amount of people who don't understand the story. Actually I'm shocked every time I look at the comment box under a video on TH-cam. I don't mean to insult anyone, but most people don't seem to think at all. It is clear that Hannah kidnapped Janey and then abandonned her at her parents' house. What is complicated about that? You got it, I got it. So why would so many people be confused?
May I just say that sometimes it is not possible to exactly replicate the book. I have not read the book but does it really matter if the last name of the Sands was changed or that in th book the Sands had twin sons? Do those changes affect the plot of the story? And why nit-pick about whether Jenny/Janie should divorce the Sands or why she moved in with them against her will? It is a story. And honestly, there is no playbook for a situation like this. Please enjoy the movie for what it is, I do
Sweetmissjaye, I think the same thing too. The only thing that throws me off is this: Where is Hannah? Why are there no school records of Hannah growing up to be 18? Who is that picture really of? The fake parents are delusional I think. Or the father is lieing to the mother or vice versa about where Janie/Jennie really did come from. Meaning one of them snatched her and brought her to the home saying Hannah left her. That is if there even is a Hannah.
i think any parents would be understanding enough to at least have more visitation for the parents she's know most of her life. at least in the interest of the child
Her real parents have the right to have her back that is their daughter and they have the right to get to know their daughter and for her to get to know them mind it remember she was kidnapped
I was asking YOU how you know that Hannah died "long after she abandoned Janey" because the movie nor the book specify that at any point. And I did not ask the same question. meloncolie was saying that to prove the point that Hannah couldn't possibly not exist because if she didn't exist she wouldn't be able to kidnap Janey.
I cannot believe some of the comments on here with people blaming Janie/Jenny for not being gracious or wanting to be with her bio family. Seriously, did any of you even watch the movie or read the book? Yeah I get the bio parents wanting her back but you can't just expect her to come home and be your daughter again when she doesn't know you. Not to mention unlike many other unfortunate kids, she lived a good life with loving parents--who would want to give that up for strangers? Imagine you go your whole life believing you are one person and that your family that you live with/has raised you (with lots of love and not abused I might add) is yours, you have all your friends/boyfriend and then all the sudden SURPRISE! Turns out you were kidnapped, you're not who you think you are and your family is not your family and oh by the way your entire life is going to be uprooted and you're going to go live with these random strangers who though related to you by blood are not who you would consider family because you don't know them! How would you feel hmm? Bet you all wouldn't act so gracious if your entire life got uprooted like that and suddenly your whole identity gets thrown out the window. Nobody adapts to a situation like that that fast! How about you have some respect for the kidnapped girl who had no idea about all this and is being forced against her will to move in with people who are basically strangers to her and making her live a whole new life. She's scared, confused and rightfully so.
No. The Janmons has a daughter named Hannah that kidnapped Jennifer when she was younger and then dropped her off at her parents claiming Jennifer was hers. Then told her about the cult doing bad things to children. They raised her as her own.
They know its their child because she has resemblence to them when you get older your eys and nose don't change so they can tell by her facial features.
I dont get this ? if hannah was the girls mother , who is the woman that says shes her real mother and took her back , would'nt that make her the missing daughter ( hannah ) ?? yet the people who have had the girl for 13 yrs dont know the woman who is supposed to be the kids other >>>??? bit confusing..
Janie was at an ice cream shop & she went with Hanna not understanding anything, Hannah is the daughter of her parents shes known forever, her parents thought she was their granddaughter and raised her as their own child like a new Hannah. Only to realize she might not really have been Hanna's child. When Janie went missing her parents felt that she was kidnapped. How far can a 3 year old go all alone? She must have gone with someone.

There should be a remake of this movie. I would totally watch it.
legally your not considered an adult till your 18, but still she was old enough to decide whether or not she wanted to meet these people.
Actually she was kidnapping victim, so no it was high unlikely a judge would give her the choice. Personally I believe her bio mom was out of line, and took her feelings out on her daughter. She could of a beautiful relationship with her daughter, but was at odds with her for most of the time.

Courts did not even considered the child or other families feels saying that the child had been brain washed.

They do take into consideration both families and the child’s wishes. However, the birth parents take priority.

In older kids cases like this one, courts would look at stability, financial ability
As to were the child will stay but the other has weekly visitation.
Does
Not happen too often and both sides have to agree.
It is a messy situation cause all parties are victims.
Courts have ruled that older kids if they want can stay with the adoptive family. Younger kids like 12 and under have no say and go back to the birth parents with stipulations on visitation. That so far seems to be a good fix for all concerned.

I agree she’s old enough to make that decision herself! So she was kidnapped by her grandparents and raised by them as their own daughter?

They were confused because they didn't know she was kidnap

But also then and now at 16 unless there's some state law in USA I'm unaware of, she would in most places be legally allowed to chose her own place and move out so long it as it was safe and could afford it
It's amazing how her "birth" mother remembered her allergy. It's so sweet.
But she didn’t remember. Her exact words were that she forgot. 🙄
It’s been YEARS tho maybe she just been worried about other things like where her daughter might be still worrying what happened to her not her thinking about her allergy
I agree, they could have at least agreed on some type of joint custody like divorced parents
The real father wanted that but the birth mother didn't want that
Once again she was kidnapped. Kidnappers should be in jail.custody belongs to the birth parents periodt I said what I said
Interesting trivia
This was directed by Waris Hussein, the original director of doctor who

I agree
To the bio parents it was like losing her twice
Mrs. Sans is the best actor in the film.
They didn't ask her if she wanted to do this. They treated her like a chess piece.
The woman playing her real mother is the best actor in this whole crappy flick, lol. Even better than Edward Herrmann.
Even adoptions don't force kids to immediately acclimate to their adoptive families that soon. And there's no way in hell you'd call me by a new name, even if it was the original one. Let her live with the parents she knows and get to know her biological family on her own terms.
In my opinion the sands family sure looked cool I liked to have a brother and a sister then being a lonely kid
I just wanna scream "Stop calling her Jenny!!!" I know it would be hard, but they should have understood and respected that she is her own person and her name and identity has been "Janey" for as long as she can remember.

Janie dresses older because her "parents are older." You can look at them people and tell they may be in their sixties.
This movie isn't as good as the book it left out a lot if parts of reeve and Janie :(
No one not even the courts thought or cared about the 16 year olds mental and emotional state or were worried about what this would do to her? Sad
@stilalover11 She's not mad at going to her biological parent's home. She is scared of leaving the one place she has known as her home and leaving the people who she knows as her parents. I thought Stephen was a cutie :) but I wish the twins were in the movie too
How she felt toward her natural dad is how i felt when i finally saw my father after 10 yrs whe he dropped us at my moms and fell off the planet
The movie combines the first 2 books in the series: The Face on the Milk Carton and Whatever Happened to Jennie?
I Know they didn't raise you,But THAT'S YOU'R FAMILY! That woman gave birth to you and those people have been grieving over you for 13 years,Show a little respect,Be a little Gracious. Heartless.
Where are Brian and Brendan
Her brothers
I totally thought the same thing! Where are the twins?
if it takes hours to read the book how do you expect all that to be in a movie? i guess common sense isnt so common:P
I feel like her birth parents were so excited to have Janey back after 16 years they got butt hurt so easily!!
Good video Good scenes 👍

They didn't give her a choice whether she wanted to meet these people, who are her real family. No one asked her she wanted to live with these people.
Put yourself in the parents shoes. If your little girl was kidnapped, wouldn't you want your child back?
They didn't ask her if she wanted to go with her so called family, who are perfect strangers to her.
i kinda wanna read the book now.
This dude laugh while she cried 😂💀
I think that's bullshit. Whether or not she's the Sands/Springs kid, you can't make a high schooler live with strangers. I would just keep running back to my "real" parents that raised me. I know its dumb, but I really hope that little Taylor Williams is in a loving family like this.
no,janies mother is mrs.sands, janie was kidnapped by Hannah javensen and Hannah took Janie to the people she was calling her parents when she was age 3
i love this movie sooo much. does anyone know what store would carry this movie?
the birth parents are just wrong in this Janie is almost an adult -- THEY should have accepted visitation and not disrupted her life.. any "parent" who loved their child would have considered HER feelings FIRST
DNA testing has been around since the 80s
They did look for her. Remember the milk carton?
I just realized something both actors that portray Janie's adoptive parents are deceased.
:(
But a book can go a lot more in depth an hour and 45 minute TV movie can only have so much in it.
So why would so many people be confused?
the guy that plays Hannah's father he played in the movie the lost boys as the head vampire
May I just say that sometimes it is not possible to exactly replicate the book. They're missing like 3 kids the twins and her older sister Joide or something aren't they?
@AlyssaDesire Yah that's what i thought. I thought she had twin younger brothers and she had an older brother and sister so she was the middle child.
the parents certainly didn't act in the best interest of their daughter
2:59 What the hell kind of handshake was that ?
you can easily get a fake security number
i think any parents would be understanding enough to at least have more visitation for the parents she's know most of her life. at least in the interest of the child
@theshrey1 Yep, in the book the Springs (Sands) had twin boys.
"There is so much crap appearing on this screen. I havn't the slightest idea what shit I am watching? Forget it you can keep the pissing movie!"
Her real parents have the right to have her back that is their daughter and they have the right to get to know their daughter and for her to get to know them mind it remember she was kidnapped

The movie is quite different from the book i mean the movie is okay you just have to look for details
@tyeslater lol right?
@Kaskade64 they don't have tv movies on netflix.
I'm so confused. Is the wife of the Sands family Hanna?
No. The Janmons has a daughter named Hannah that kidnapped Jennifer when she was younger and then dropped her off at her parents claiming Jennifer was hers. Then told her about the cult doing bad things to children. They raised her as her own.
Why r they living in a big house with 3 people for a house that could fit 5 or 6 people.

@midnightoker619 It has her name on it, Jennifer.
Isnt jodies hair suspose to be really short !?
They know its their child because she has resemblence to them when you get older your eys and nose don't change so they can tell by her facial features.
I dont get this ? if hannah was the girls mother , who is the woman that says shes her real mother and took her back , would'nt that make her the missing daughter ( hannah ) ?? yet the people who have had the girl for 13 yrs dont know the woman who is supposed to be the kids other >>>??? bit confusing..
Imagine something like this in a goofy movie.
i am a lil lost y was she takin again. why did they kidnap her.
Jodie is way to young and so is Stephen
These people are very obsessed 26th milk. I'm allergic, too, LET'S KEEP TALKING ABOUT IT!
They cut the twins. I guess they weren't that important in the first two books...
0:07 - ZANIMIVO ! JENNIFER REČE SVOJI MAMI: "GOSPA SANDS." NAMESTO "MAMA."
lol this is a really good movie but so unrealistic.. im sorry if i were them parents i would force them to be charged with kidknapping
Was it mentioned?
i have a book report on this :(
not in those days... 14 is now the legal age. But was only instigated during the 90's.
If u people really don't understand this, don't ask us, just get the book
why didn't they just pull in the garage if they didn't want to be bothered by the press? lol
Nope. Not unless she needed to apply for some sort of ID like passport.
He was being sarcastic with the question to prove the point of Hannah's existence. And how do you know she died?
4:32, he didnt even put down the handleing thingy, the shift
Not true. She would have needed it to get into school. She would have also needed her social security number for the same reason.
Well how did she kidnap Jennifer if she died when she's a baby? Geez, people don't understand this movie at all. Although it's really not complicated.
I think the books are a lot better but I still think they did a pretty good job
she has like 5 siblings in the book but now she only has 2? alright
Anyone think that the birth certificate would have been needed long before she turned 16.
Omg where are the twins?!?!
