I didn't know this movie was based on a book series, so needless to say I never read the books. Having only seen the movie I was touched by this story. I think it protrayed the emotional dilemma people in this situation might actually face. Legally and morally she belonged with her biological parents, but emotionally she needed the ones who had raised her and she grew up loving. In the end there was room in the girls heart for both sets of parents. Wonderful acting!
This was a wonderful but sad in the end but kinda happy movie to. I think that Hannah took Janie to give her mother and father the daughter she never could be. Tyfs God bless you
so did they, everyone was actually pretty charitable regarding her motives then you get her perspective in book 5 turns out as she put it "it was even more fun than stealing a car" then she needed somewhere to "dump the kid" because she hated being tied down - actually getting the full kidnap story was so gripping and terrifying - especially the fact that Hannah was an inexperienced driver, driving from new jersey to Connecticut with a 3 year old in the front seat and she didn't even put her seat belt on even though Jenny/Janie asked her to and for chunks of the journey she forgot she had anyone else in the car
In the 5th book referring to something Miranda was going through her mum said "your poor mother" and Janie thought how proud she was to be her daughter
I believe that is what they are alluding to. They are letting her go back to live with the parents who raised her but by the comment the sister made about visiting they made it seem clearly that she would be visiting the bio family on occasion.
Her father mentioned that but the mother and other parents did not go along. But at the end it was obvious that she would see her real parents and brother and sister--just not live with them.
great movie. I cried most of the way through it as I felt like i could really understand what this was like though I have never been through anything like this myself.
Such a good movie, it just shows that a mother can love her enough to let her go after 13yrs of searching for her, she showed that she was the true mother by allowing her child happiness even though it broke her heart, and had to lose her all over again, Love this movie :-) x
thats amazing this film had no bad language, violence, sex, special effects, aleins, vampires, talking animals and it wasnt in 3-d but it was still great, go figure! thanks for uploading, people who put films on youtube are the nicest people in the world..
Kelly did so good in this movie I loved it,I'm a fan of hers her acting so naturally believable its amazing she's pretty and talented and nice, now for the movie it warms my heart she had so much love everywhere,I wish I had that, great movie 🎥 again and thank you so much for this movie 🎥 upload
Every so often over the years I would think about this movie but I couldn't find it and could barely remember it. Thanks for making it possible to watch it again. It came out when I was only 8.
Idk if I could ever be this strong 💪 I can’t imagine what the mom went through in the car ride I was hoping she would change her mind and want to be back with her biological parents and siblings
the film goes up to the end of book two, there are three more after that and you get a lot more closure by the end of the last book - in case you were still interested after 2 years and haven't already read them
Well, thank you AfraidOfTheDarkFan (the uploader), this helped a lot because at the last secound, i saw this awesome movie and this was for my project, I'm gunna get an A++++
she gave her back because she knew that because Jenny was a teenager - had lifelong friends that she'd had since she was THREE that the only thing Jenny would do was continue to resent them for ripping her from the only family she'd ever known. You cannot force someone to love you -- and if you try they will always find a way to build a wall to keep you out - the harder you try the more resistant they will become ESPECIALLY a teen
Wow I really need to read this series again. I read it a bunch of times in 6th grade through jr high. Like, probably 5 or 6 times, and I really struggle with reading. Just happenstance that I found this movie
All things considered, this was a good movie. It stayed mostly true to the books. I was a little disappointed that they changed the names and that the Springs didn't live a crazy lifestyle and have twin boys, but other than that I really enjoyed it.
Yeah, I loved the Springs in the books and their general chaos, especially Brian, he was such a sweetheart, also they made Jodie younger for some reason - guess it was because Janie/jenny was the middle child and they had already got rid of the twins
That and he spent his entire life seeing what it did to his parents and had to deal with his parents always having to know what he was doing all the time, imagining everything that could have happened to his sister and living in a pretty small house that the family had long outgrown (it was smaller in the books) with 3 siblings, but couldn't move in case Jenny somehow remembered their address or number after all these years. Then she was found and he saw his parents joy, followed by their hurt by the fact that she wasn't ready to call them Mom and Dad and kept talking about her parents (the other ones) and not really giving them a chance - honestly I think his reaction was pretty realistic, even if it looks really sucky when following Janies perspective. Book 2 started with the Springs (their last name in the books) and kind of showed what life had been like for them.
wow, I couldn't imagine how I would feel if something like this happened to my sister...I would be heart-broken :_( Gosh, I can't even imagine what this mom must have gone through
The one thing I noticed about this movie was the stark contrast of the families. On one end you have the wealthy, liberal, non church attending adopted family while on the other end you have the comfortable middle class, conservative, God fearing Christian biological family.
I'm not emotional but a mother not seeing her child for 13 years and see her child for the first time and then let their child go after finding that child for so many years is sad.
Yes, I am aware of that, I was alive then... just pointing it out. In 20 years, we are going to look back on the clothes we wear today and go "Oh my God... why did I wear that?" haha.
For years I have neen living with my father, but just recrntly I made the life changing decision to live with my mom and yes it was rough for awhile but me and my mother are like sisters now we are closer than ever before! So this story really hits home for me
It’s beautiful and very sad movie broke my heart for her Mom she live in agony for 17 years ,I can imagine when she have kids on her Owen she will know the love her family had for her , she will be spending more time with her siblings and there kid’s
wow she didn't even give her real family a chance..... i understand that they are stangers to her but she only stayed with them for like 2 weeks she didn't even get to know them..they could have been a great family to her... i would have at least stayed with them for a month that's the least you can do since they haven't seen her in 13 years. But overall i love this movie!
This is based off of four books but only has stuff from the first two. In the last two books it says she has a relationship with her biological family.
surely you are kidding? NO CHILD wants to be split between homes that way -- I am thinking and hoping that she will voluntarily take her friends over on weekends - that they can get together as two families on holidays -- it only makes sense and I suspect that Janie being the kind of person she is made to appear in this movie would do just that -- but taking her back was the only hope her natural family had of ever having a relationship with her - the ONLY hope
i remember picking up this book and reading the first 3 or 4 chapters (i dont quite remember) and i was in 6th grade. i nevr got to finish the book and ever since i always tried to find it. just today, the thought of youtubing it occured to me. now watching the ending to this book (after four years) was INCREDIBLE and just simply AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (tbh, i choked up at the end of the movie :'D)
nah I've met someone with somewhat of a similar story and he said he felt nothing to his real parents to the point that he too went back to the people he considered his parents.
Excuse me? The parents who raised and loved you are always your real parents. A couple of years ago I found out that my dad wasn't my biological father, but this never changed anything between us, I even love him more than ever. And even if I have a great relationship with my biological father now, my daddy will always be the one who raised me, loved me for all these years, and helped me when I was in trouble.
I am adopted and the ones who raised me are my real parents, I found my birth mom a few years ago and I call her my bio mom or my 1st mom (as she carried me and made the decision to give me a better life)
Basically the movie is saying who raised you is your real family. I was raised by my grandparents. I have no desire to know my dad side of the family even though he is my parent because he wasn't in my childhood. My grandparents are my real parents.
@SarahWhitman The movie only covers the first two books "Face on the milk Cartoon" And "Whatever happened to Janie" In the other two books "Voice one the Radio" and what Janie found" She does have a relationship with the Springs (Sands in the movie) And her brother stays with her adoptive family for a time (One of the twins who aren't in the movie)
This movie doesn't make sense to me Janie/Jennie was 16 and the Sand (even though they were the biological parents) would most likely come across as the villians in her eyes for ripping her away from the only home she can remember. Also because she was 16 in two years she could of chosen the family that she wished to be associated with, and if she percieved the Sands as the villians in this story she might have broken ties and gone back to the parents that raised her. This whole story was sad but the issue of custody could have been handled better on both sides of the table
In a case such as this, where the stolen child was not taken for the purpose of harm to him/her, it is a good lesson for birth parents to try to think of the person who has taken care of the child, whether it is the grandparents of the thief or the child stealer herself. The child still loves the one who brought him/her up and needs some access to her. Maybe after the person has served her sentence, visitation could be set up for her and the child, if the woman is deemed safe to be around and truly is repentant for her crime and her mental illness is being managed.
So, how come the 'adoptive' family weren't arrested for kidnapping her? I mean, even if she wanted to, surely social services wouldn't let her go back?
This is basically the same plot as Deep End of the Ocean but different perspective. That movie is told through the parents who lost their child and this one through the abducted child. Both are incredible movies but Deep end of the ocean just hits that spot 😢
She played a girl who was 16 and a half years old. In a year a half, at age 18, she would have been able to choose regardless of what either set of parents wanted. As such, her true parents could/would only have had control over her for a year and a half tops. (Note: While this movie is based on a book, neither the book nor the movie is not based on a true story. )
She's glad 'cause she gave them & herself closure. She found the truth & the Sands were given peace of mind; especially the brother & mother who felt responsible. Saying 'I love you' was done out of respect & to show Mrs. Sands acceptance. Janie doesn't want to leave her feeling rejected or at fault as she did nothing wrong, but fell victim to tragedy. She lost her daughter (worrying everyday & not even moving in fear Jenny would return) only to find her and be told she was happy the whole time.
And during that time frame the director want to be able to tell the story in a way that will be understandable and won't confuse people. So yeah, the book had a lot more detail and the movie was way different. But that doesn't mean it's a bad thing. There are plenty of movies that have done the same, for example: Harry Potter, Hunger Games, and not only those but TV shows based on books (pretty little liars, the lying games) are totally different from the actual book. Just enjoy the movie.
@crzytextr You see him at 4:30 taking Janie's bags in, so he's probably in the house... so technically he didn't just 'disappear' in the last scene, he just wasn't the main focus, but I completely understand that it's a little weird that he didn't come back out.
I love all the books in the series; particularly "The Voice on the Radio": that had me on the edge of my seat, especially with the chapter finale of "My name...is Hannah". But as a movie (even a TV movie which are always notoriously bad, this one being a case in point) "The Voice on the Radio" would suck! In summary, I would say that some things are just better left in the medium they were originally intended for, in this case, a book, and the books are great
We are reading the book in my class and I'm the only one who watched the whole movie :P it's gonna be awesome becuz I wont have to pay attention and I just might even take a nap ;-)
@prettylittleliarsist Yea I can see that. If he had taken them upstairs, then it would take longer, but I would have thought that he would just drop them off inside and then gone to give her another hug, but he gave her quite a big one rite off the bat, and probably thought that a few moments along would be appropriate... (well... not the actor.. but the character... aha) so yea, I guess he could have taken them upstairs. Didn't think of that.
This is so beautiful and my heart really hurts for Sada Sands. It can't be easy for her to give up her daughter like that again! She's the true mother because she did what's best for Jennie/Jamie and that's how you know she's the true mother, when her own daughter's happiness comes before hers. This movie could also be called "A Mother's Sacrifice" as well!
@Simspiration Yeeah, i really liked the books! couldnt they have stuck to the original plot!?!? but i like the girl who played Janie... i didnt really notice her speed talking! :)
The ending was always so sad! That poor biological daughter she wanted her back so badly just to have to end up returning her. I understand the situation but that poor mother if this was real life I would hope Janie/Jennie would have continued some kind of relationship with her biological family.
Tbh- I'm still reading the book 💁 but at the end tho where Revve he got the bag and it didn't show he but this is a awesome movie I'm gonna finish the book 📙📙
Ugh the the first book is so much better! I just finished it like 2 hours ago so I figured it's a good time to watch the movie. I'm really disappointed that they crammed to books into one movie.. Bummer. Now it seems as if I know everything that will happen in the 2nd book. Oh well I guess, but I love this story and I couldn't put the book down
There are five or six of them, "The Face On the Milk Carton", "What Happened to Janie", "The Voice On the Radio", "What Janie Found", "Janie Face to Face", and one other one that's an e-book exclusive I believe that goes before "Face to Face". Usually they're in the teen section of the book store, if that helps at all :)
If it was 2013 she could've just added them all on Facebook and called it a day lol
you sir now owe me a new key-board... because I just spit out my coffee laughing at this comment!
sad thing with facebook is , even if we then knew how it would bring people apart , we still would have signed in...sad world
Letting her go to set her free...Heartbreaking but also heartwarming. A Mother's love is a love that only mothers would understand.
Not all mothers are loving, so not all mothers understand it.
Wish I knew what it was like

I agree. She never meant to be disrespectful to her birth parents, but she still needed to be able to show love for her adoptive parents.

So true.

They should have like shared seeing her like divorced parents see their children. That would have made more sense to me anyway

I love that word...something u should will never forget to say to your mother who loves you soo much.
It's extremely naïve to think that all mothers are good and deserving.
the book definitely had more feeling but its almost always like that..and i liked watching it come to life
I hope Janie kept in regular contact with her biological family
Read the books :)
I am sure she did.
This isn't a true story.

Everytime I saw Janie's house I kept expecting Freddy Kruger to jump out.

I had no idea that the book was made into a film lol. I've had this book and more others from Caroline B Cooney for close to 15 years!

NOt sure she could at 16. But I am sure she saw her biological parents and sister and brother even though she went back home.
They could have made them extensive family Janie's biological family could spend Holidays with them. It could be worked out.
In a case such as this, where the stolen child was not taken for the purpose of harm to him/her, it is a good lesson for birth parents to try to think of the person who has taken care of the child, whether it is the grandparents of the thief or the child stealer herself. They didn’t kidnap her, their daughter did then lied to them, they had no idea she had been kidnapped. They believed she was their granddaughter.
The pain that biological mother must feel would be gut wrenching. I have two children and cannot bare the thought of losing either one of them.

@prettylittleliarsist
Yea I can see that. If he had taken them upstairs, then it would take longer, but I would have thought that he would just drop them off inside and then gone to give her another hug, but he gave her quite a big one rite off the bat, and probably thought that a few moments along would be appropriate... (well... not the actor.. but the character... aha)
so yea, I guess he could have taken them upstairs.
Did anybody else notice at the end that A. They weren't carrying Janie's suitcases in and B. the boyfriend totally disappeared? haha
Reeve got the luggage from the car and took it to the house
Okay, I cried.
@crzytextr No he didn't, he got the bags and took them in the house, you can see him go behind the other mom near the end. :P
Tbh- I'm still reading the book 💁 but at the end tho where Revve he got the bag and it didn't show he but this is a awesome movie I'm gonna finish the book 📙📙
Yes. At 4:30 you see him walk behind them up the stairs with the luggage.
you know pray to god to help u with the info u need he has the answers . And i wish u the best
wish they would make movies to all the books...
This movie is basically the same plot as "The Deep End of the Ocean" starring Michelle Pfieffer, which came out years later.
who played janie/jennie? does it say that in the movie (i didn't see it)?
Five years too late, she is Kelly Martin
Kellie Martin who played Becca Thatcher in Life Goes On
Thank you sooooo much
This makes me sad. Poor redheaded mother.
Ugh the the first book is so much better! I just finished it like 2 hours ago so I figured it's a good time to watch the movie. I'm really disappointed that they crammed to books into one movie.. Bummer. Now it seems as if I know everything that will happen in the 2nd book. Oh well I guess, but I love this story and I couldn't put the book down
The movie wasn't exactly the same as the second book, so I'd say it's still worth reading. The books are definitely better than the movie.
***** what's the name of the books?
There are five or six of them, "The Face On the Milk Carton", "What Happened to Janie", "The Voice On the Radio", "What Janie Found", "Janie Face to Face", and one other one that's an e-book exclusive I believe that goes before "Face to Face". Usually they're in the teen section of the book store, if that helps at all :)
+Gabrielle Rose I got my book at a thrift store
