    I'm getting this cam here pretty soon to replace my SE Torque cam. I got the SE cam for 68$ so no big deal replacing it.
    I'm excited since my bike already does zero to 60 below 4 seconds.
    NGL... skipping over the tappet cuff removal is a mistep. Not to be rude or anything, but so many people break those bolts, myself included, and going over the safe removal of them is a really smart idea.
    I like FuelMoto's instruction on how to remove them. Remove everything around them, then heat up the bottom of the area for 5 minutes with a heat gun, then remove them slowly.
    OR the better time saving idea if you're doing just a stage 2 or 3... dont even remove them at all.
    With magnetic lifterholders you can just keep the tappet blocks and all that on the bike. And if you want new lifters, you can let the old lifters drop out and slide new ones in from underneath.
    If I had known I didnt need to remove the tappet cuffs... I would never have done it.

      Thanks for the comment. I have done a ton of cam replacements on m8 motors and have never had a problem removing the tappet cuffs. That’s good to know it can be a problem.
      I also feel like it is important to remove the lifters during a cam swap. So the lifters and bores can be inspected.
      Thanks for the comment

      I am about to do this, and I am not removing mine. I'll pull the lifters with magnets or with the spring from a binder clip. Lots of ways to do that. I do want them out to inspect before dragging the cam across them.

      Replacing the tappet cuffs is not worth it. No one has seen a failure of these in 6 years.

    Great job brother. I'm doing this right now on a 2019 street glide. Get a small mason jar and drill a hole in the top and put in a tire valve. Use your brake bleeder to apply a vac to the bottle to bleed the lifters. Works a treat.

    Excellent job
    Question. When you align the cam and pinion gear are you holding your straightedge flat on the pinion sprocket and looking for a gap on cam sprocket ,or are you laying straightedge flat on both sprockets then measuring for gap?
    When i lay straightedge flat on pinion sprocket i have .035,but if i lay straightedge flat on both i get .009.Thats from the factory with a .110 spacer.Its like the two sprocket are not exactly flat with each other.i have .0045 runout.And if i spin the pinion sprocket 180* i always get a different reading.Hope all that makes sense

    • @empcycleworks
      @empcycleworks  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I lay the straight edge on the gear that is the tallest and measure the gap on the other gear. Laying the straight edge on both gears will not give you the correct reading.
      I would try a .140 or a .150 shim. And re measure.

    Why is the crank runout no good for an aftermarket oil pump but fine for a stock pump?

    • @empcycleworks
      @empcycleworks  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The spec from Harley is like 0.012”. After market oil pumps have tighter tolerances than Harley.

  • @texasmotorcyclerideradventures

    Do you not let the lifters bleed before installing pushrods in the front cylinder?

    • @empcycleworks
      @empcycleworks  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, brand new lifters usually do not take very long to bleed down.

    • @empcycleworks
      @empcycleworks  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The stock cam plate and oil pump are fine on a 22. Upgrading would be optional and dependent on your pinion runout

  • @bradmadisonmitchell3733
    @bradmadisonmitchell3733 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

    I have never done this before and im wondering about your timing explanation. As ling as you line up the timing marks, its timed? If it makes a full revolution the marks wont line up, am i correct in saying that? I cammed my mustang and its something like 80 revolutions for the timing marks to line back up. Im guessing the sprockets have a keyway for the cam and the crank. Sorry for this question but i like to be very thorough before i start a project.

    • @empcycleworks
      @empcycleworks  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      These are super easy to time. Just line up the marks. Every 2 rotations of the crank will line the marks up again. This is how you verify timing.

    Currently waiting for everything to come in the mail so I disassembled the bike today. I’m extremely extremely confused. My push rod covers only have a spring inside. It’s a pretty much brand new 2022 road glide everything. I keep seeing a washer and an O-ring in the pushrod covers so Harley missed both of those from the factory and all four pushrod?

    • @empcycleworks
      @empcycleworks  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      You have the newer style pushrod tubes. The o ring in inside the lower pushrod tube

    • @theWacoKid1
      @theWacoKid1 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      On model year 20 and newer (verify the year please) the oil pump is an improved design. If your runout is within spec stock is good to go. It's money better spent somewhere else.

      @empcycleworks I know, but it will eat the oil pump eventually. Went through it with my 2012 ultra limited 103. I got 60k on it, and the crank shifted. At that point, I rebuilt the bike in 2022. Now it's amazing(20k later). I have a 24 Road King, so we will see how that goes. Love my Harleys . Like any toys they are not cheap to play with.
