Buying My First Car! 2007 Subaru Impreza 2.5i

- In this video I make the trip to go get my first car, a 2007 Subaru Impreza 2.5i. In my walk around you can see the car isn't perfect, but it was too good of a deal to pass up on. Stay tuned for the next video in which I replace the brakes and install a new exhaust system and for my future plans with the car.
The 2006 Impreza 2.5i is my first car as well. I bought it in 2008: It now has 157,000 miles, has seen 10 States and 2 Canadian provinces, been thrown 80 mph on dirt roads, done 120 mph somewhere in Montana, autocrossed, slid sideways about every angle in snowy parking lots and the only service aside from maintenance has been head gaskets, timing belt and a bad wheel bearing from using the E-brake too much. At the end of the day its the most fun car you can own, more fun than an WRX actually because the throttle response is so perfect. I do recommend getting a stiffer rear sway bar for it though as it likes to understeer and the stock one is a limp noodle.

Great car man, in my opinion the last great Impreza's generation. In the next days, it will be my first car too. It's difficult to express in happiness how your efforts gives results.

Cool stuff man, I have an '07 wagon and bought it with very similar issues as you lol. Broken cup holder, dents all around and some rust. Good thing is that junkyards have plenty imprezas to pick from so it shouldn't be too tough to find replacement parts
You're right about that, but there's really only one kind of big one remotely near me, and tons of people drive these, so the good parts go super fast. Also, super cool to hear about your car!

@@gkgt5226 I reccomend Tein Lowering Springs! Thats what I bought and they give the car a more aggressive look while making it feel like a go-cart.
@@chino4106 Okay thanks, I’ve heard good things. I don’t want to make the suspension too stiff which is why I’m avoiding cheap coils, so eventually I’ll probably end up going with an option like this.

@@_u0nda928 That seems like a good deal depending on miles. They are slowly going up in value. Definitely try to get a 5 speed though and the automatics dont have the same fun in these cars.
@@ColoradoStreaming Are the 5 speeds for 2.5i fragile like the 5 speed WRX'S?
@@_u0nda928 They are pretty robust. The 2.5i only has 175hp so its not like your cranking a lot of power through it. The only issue really is when people try to launch the car which you dont want to do in a AWD because all the stress goes into the clutch and transmission. I put 157k miles on mine over 13 years and have driven it pretty hard and never had any issues with the clutch or transmission. I do a lot of aggressive race shifts and downshifting too.
Cool car! I recently picked up a 2005 RS 2.5 Impreza. I put on an over the counter muffler with a deleted resonator. Sounds awesome.

I got exactly the same same car just a regular 2007 Subaru Impreza 2.5i not a big rust issue on the body just a dent and a bit of Rust on the back passenger panel near the gas cap and idk exactly how to get that fixed yet 😂 just got the car yesterday

@@gkgt5226 sorry for the late reply. So far I have rallyarmor mudflaps and aftermarket headlights. Planning to get uel headers, catback exhaust, sway bars, coils and maybe a cold air intake and a tune in the future. Oh and wheels!

Nice! Mine is black as well and its the best color IMO. If you are good with a buffer you can really make it mirror glow at night.
I also bought mine with no padding on the clutch which I find is funny but i got mine at 150k and it runs great still. Clutches on Subaru are a little on the heavy side too!
Interesting similarity, and I did notice that. I haven’t really gotten the chance to feel many other manual cars, but I really like it.
Just pick an 06 Impreza wagon with 106K for my sons first car.

Mine was $1500 but immediately needed a new cat, brakes, and at least a muffler. The engine apparently also wasn't that healthy. I see most in the $3-4k range near me.

Im actually looking to buy one. Ive been looking for a wrx for a while. I would like to get my hands on an sti, but those go crazy expensive.
Expensive they are, especially in good condition. After speaking with a Subaru tech who races all kinds of imprezas, the wrx or sti are awesome but if you don't need that, the non turbos are still a ton of fun, easier to work on, and more reliable second hand. Whatever you end up going with, it should be great, good luck.
Funny no exhaust! I bought a car without an exhaust without knowing for 2 days! I got a 2003 wrx wagon. In the pictures they showed a canister exhaust. Made an offer and picked it up.2 days later I started to change all the fluids and what do you know, no exhaust at all.
That's a funny story, and I like to hear that the first thing you did was replace all of the fluids and such.

I want to buy this car but I'm too damn worried about the head gasket detonating as soon as I drive it. Sigh it's hard picking your first car.
That is the worry; if possible try to get service records and do as much research as possible to make sure it was done by a reputable mechanic in a timely manner. If you're handy you can do that yourself, but if not maybe consider other options. The main takeaway from my experience is research research research!
Honestly yes i see where you are coming from i but that could be just about any car try to find one thats well taken carr of and it will treat you right i absolutely love my 07
I am eyeing this car, and do you have any idea on keeping that rust spot cleaned out?
While mine has rusted away, I assume there is a drain hole at the bottom that gets clogged so the fender fills up. While more involved, you can always take the fender off, clean it out, and make sure there is tight fitment between the inner/outer fender and other body panels such that nothing can get in easily.
@@gkgt5226 Good to know it's possible! I am thinking on passing out on the impreza I had my eyes on, the floor is rusted on that, with no garage, zero welding knowledge, and winter, it would be next to impossible to sort that out on my own to pass inspection
@@sharifsircar Good idea, especially when starting out, I recommend with starting with something you know you can handle so you aren't overwhelmed.

how has it been a year later?
All of the parts and mods I installed shortly after getting it like the brakes and exhaust have held up fine. Unfortunately, as you see later on the channel, the engine ended up being bad and I needed to do a wheel bearing as well as electing to do a cv axel before it needed it. Bearings and axels being wear items that take particular abuse from salty winters, I'm not disappointed. Getting the car really cheap to begin with, I've had a mixed bag of experiences, but nothing I didn't expect. It currently runs and drives great with all issues documented on the channel.
how long was ur trailer and where did u get it from bc i cant find a uhual trailer long enough
I am not sure about the dimensions of the trailer we used, but I think it was just a standard car trailer. Uhaul can be weird about what they have at each location, so hopefully they get a transfer or you have another local one you can check.
Check rear quarter panels they rust horrible on these cars due to rust and the head gaskets fail all the time on the non turbo imprezas of these years

I'm not sure. I would look up the factory part number for both and make sure they're the same.

@@gkgt5226 The vehicle needs a lot of TLC and unsafe. Looks like the rust has already attacked the frame and brakes. And even if you were to “fix” that it wouldn’t necessarily fix but just slow the spread. But then again that’s just my opinion no hate at all.
@@sage_brains7133 I really appreciate the advice, but the rust isn't that bad considering it's a northeast car. I do agree that it's pretty rusty and I'll only be slowing down the eventual spread, but that's how it seems to be on most cars up here. Hopefully it lasts a while, and again thanks for the advice.
