Take this list with you to check out the car:
    1. check for rust on arches above wheels (move rubber cover)
    2. check for burning oil, make sure engine is cool and hasn't been warmed up by salesman, start car and watch rear exhaust
    3. check every panel for damage or poor repairs
    4. check car for mismatched paint or overspray
    5. listen while engine is running for knocking sound (important)
    6. check if warning lights have been tampered (when car starts they should all flash for a bulb check)
    7. make sure AC works
    8. check the feel of the gearbox
    9. check leaking tail light seals
    10. check that windows seals are not leaking

Thank you ,this is much simpler and organised than my list ,people may think its funny to write this down but you need to be firm when buying a car or you'll end up buying a broken car .

Its pretty sad that the regular 5-speed can fail even with stock power imprezas. 150+ hp and you need the sti 6-speed.

You forgot a very important item on subarus. Open the coolent reservoir, start the engine and check for bubbles forming. It means headgaket blown...

i did not know any thing about subaru = i got so excited when i saw a turbo forester and just brought it $6,400 cash aussie dollars = fixed all the worn out bits with top quality after market parts = 6 years later still have it ! changed everything ! =45k

  • @unassailable6138

First thing I do is open the coolant compartiment , start the engine and see if bubbles appear in the liquid, if isit does it means your headgaskets are blown. Second thing is check for noises and third thing to take the car on a lift to see underneat it.

Check front windows don’t roll up too high. Check all 4 wheels/tyres, any mis match can mean the owner has cheeped out in that area, and maybe more. Check all the brake pads and disks, if some have meat on the pads and others have been worn down that can mean sticking pistons… and calliper rebuilds can be expensive, new callipers are around £300.
All said and done, best car i have ever owned and drives amazing.

I just wanted to thank you for taking the time and sharing your experience with everyone, you did narrow down things as bullet points for actually buying any car. although i did see your video by mistake and I did change too many cars but hopefully my comment will pass it for more people to learn how to check new cars.
    All the best

it's been almost a year and it's been wonderful, the car runs awesome.
It had some problems like tires nearly dead, bad battery, not functioning sunroof or bad stereo system, but engine and overall condition was pretty good.
It has given me almost no issues apart from repairing the AC condenser, I religiously maintain it and in return the car behaves well!

99% of the time, the problem with the ac not working is that the O rings will crack over time, causing a leak. This should not be an expensive repair. There are usually only two of them and the seals costs pennies!.....Just thought I'd throw that in from my own personal experience.

Alot of the issues you mention only really appear on the cheaper end of the scale of the market. on the 2.5 Ringland and headgasket failure are pure pot luck if and when they fail. You could buy one thats totaly fine and the next week it lets go. 2.0 is alot less prone to failure, however most are now getting on milage wise. Tis a shame as the 2.5 is a great engine when built right.

25k euros? That's not what this guide is for and you should know that. 99% of impreza WRX/STI's for sale are well over 150000 km and are 13+ years old, so yes checking the AC is a good idea. If you plan to spend 25k euros get a pre-purchase inspection done or pay a mechanic to come with you with you instead of being a condescending dick on a TH-cam guide.
