This is still weird to me, because most of the time I spent at Hot Topic was in 2004-5, and it was VERY different back then. A lot more music for sale (CDs and vinyl), a lot more of the "cool weird stuff" that made it a unique fixture at the mall, and now, it's just "Spencer's, but without the blatantly offensive stuff."
These cross overs are completely my thing, along with the square enix developed Mario sports games, on the DS and Wii, and the dragon quest-mario cross over in fortune street, a monopoly-like digital board game

EA's current situation with Nintendo reminds me of EA's relationship with Sega when the Dreamcast came out, after the Genesis was huge for sports games, and the Saturn flopped, EA put out no games for the DC, and Sega made their own (better) sports titles under the 2K branding

From my understanding, the inclusion of Nintendo cameos in EA games was EA's attempt at compensation for the lack of online multiplayer since Nintendo was still on its phobia of online multiplayer at the time... Mortal Kombat Deception's GameCube port was much the same way with the addition of Goro and Shao Khan to the roster...
Online Multiplayer? In 2001? Nah, you can't blame Nintendo for that back then. Online was still extremely new to consoles back then (I LIVED it). PS2 barely had it and no one really knew or understood it could do any online at all and it was all on the developers. Plus, most people were still on 56K and most online games (especially EA) didn't work without broadband (which was rare and expensive). I had exactly ONE friend who ever bothered to hook his PS2 to his modem and it was to play Final Fantasy XI. Then there's Xbox who pretty much STARTED console online multiplayer (actually it was Dreamcast), they were king and no one could depute that but it was still NEW and janky and 56K'd up. Nintendo's "phobia" was that it was new and most consumers weren't ready and certainly didn't have broadband. This is coming from a guy who DID play Phantasy Star Online... online... on his Gamecube... with the only game that went online on Gamecube.

This was fantastic. There's something about the genuine excitement you carry into your videos that really helps me appreciate gaming culture and history less as "playing the thing because fun" and more as a "intricate and fascinating medium of art." I thank you guys for it.
I really liked NFS Most Wanted U, it adds some weird mechanics that should be reviewed by this channel, like co-op wich is a cool but very broken mode and the Super Mario unlockable cars, probably the last game where EA actually did something with Nintendo.

My principle is I don't play mobile games that sponsor people from the money they make from (or in anticipation of) microtransactions. I think good ad-free or more unique games that don't shove your throat with ads are worthwhile, but if they follow the money, I say get that shit out of here cause they're manipulative money sinks that aren't good for us mentally or financially at their core. Even if there's a worthwhile game underneath those money sinks, I don't entertain it out of principle. With that said, I'd like to support Derek but I will not do so by downloading his sponsor's games.
Maybe one day they'll get a new team though. With the Seattle Kraken joining the NHL and helping renovate the old stadium to make work for hockey games, there's a chance a basketball team could play in there, too. Just depends when the NBA decides to go for it.

OMG, I remember NESticle in high school. It wasn't my first Emulator (that was No$GB for running Pokemon for the first time before it was released in the West), but it was like my second and first experience really diving into emulation and learning to play NES games ON A KEYBOARD.
I remember playing the Gamecube versions of NBA Street V3, and SSX on Tour and surprisingly I was happy to see Princess Peach dunk, sink alley-oops, and do facials on the blacktop in a game of basketball, and carve the mountain on skis doing tricks like the 900, and air-fakie.
Well, clearly I need Snowboarding SSX. At the time, I would ski most winters, so to me, it was like "Okay, so it's what we do on Xmas break, for real, but as a video game? Why bother if I can't feel the wind in my hair?" (Obviously, the hats and scarves I had to wear in the cold meant that "the wind in my hair" was mostly metaphorical, but it still wouldn't be the same.) I now feel like I missed a good sports game. Gonna hunt this one down on ebay.

Nintendo thought about it...and then realized that would allow EA way too much power on the Wii U and thus declined. It should be said GameCube was the last truly powerful console Nintendo ever put out. Nintendo has never truly been the same since that era. Also I definitely think there was a falling-out between EA and them out during the Wii U days. EA was still on really good terms through the Wii but once they started doing microtransactions and stuff like that that partnership was over and dead.

Mario characters in EA Sports BIG games were so nostalgic to me, before I found out EA’s dark secret…EA back in the 16-bit days and even to this day after when they stopped supporting Nintendo when the Wii U wasn’t doing so well, they were anti-Nintendo, like Tengen.
Wow, I actually had all these games as a kid (first time that's ever happened with one of these videos!) I'd rank them as such: 1. NBA Street V3 (one of the best games ever, please re-release or remake this EA) POWER GAP 2. SSX On Tour (fun as a kid, great soundtrack and style, don't know if it holds up) 3. Fight Night Round 2 (this is probably a better game than On Tour, but as a kid I didn't really get it. I just threw haymakers constantly)
Idea for a future Punching Weight vid: Doom source ports (meaning fan-made ports to weird systems that make no sense). Doom 1 has been open-source for years now, so why not? Plus, it'll give you a chance to talk Doom some more.

I think you pretty much nailed why EA refuses to release anything else on the Switch. I suspect they also don’t like that they can’t just slap a port onto it and just swap out the button graphics.

For anyone who is as confused as Derick is about Spawns inclusion in the Xbox version of Soulcalibur 2, its because Tod McFarline did character design work for the game and part of his agreement to work on the game was to have his character Spawn in one of the versions and an original character he created just for the series, Necrid, yeah bet you didn't know go ol zit chest was a Mcfarline creation XD

It should be said GameCube was the last truly powerful console Nintendo ever put out. Nintendo has never truly been the same since that era.
Also I definitely think there was a falling-out between EA and them out during the Wii U days. EA was still on really good terms through the Wii but once they started doing microtransactions and stuff like that that partnership was over and dead.

I remember playing the Gamecube versions of NBA Street V3, and SSX On Tour never did I think I'd be happy to see Peach dunk, sink alley-oops, and do facials on the blacktop in a game of basketball, or carve the mountain on skis doing tricks like the 900, and air-fakie.

I got really into NBA Street V3 and picked up a copy for my Gamecube just so I could experience the ridiculousness of cartoon characters in it.

Mario characters in EA Sports BIG games were so nostalgic to me, before I found out EA’s dark secret…EA back in the 16-bit days and even to this day after when they stopped supporting Nintendo when the Wii U wasn’t doing so well, they were anti-Nintendo, like Tengen.
Wow, I actually had all these games as a kid (first time that's ever happened with one of these videos!)
I'd rank them as such:
1. NBA Street V3 (one of the best games ever, please re-release or remake this EA)
POWER GAP
2. SSX On Tour (fun as a kid, great soundtrack and style, don't know if it holds up)
3. Fight Night Round 2 (this is probably a better game than On Tour, but as a kid I didn't really get it. I just threw haymakers constantly)
Idea for a future Punching Weight vid: Doom source ports (meaning fan-made ports to weird systems that make no sense). Doom 1 has been open-source for years now, so why not? Plus, it'll give you a chance to talk Doom some more.
In one of the NBA Jam games you can unlock Scorpion from Mortal Kombat but using Mario characters is more fun!

I think you pretty much nailed why EA refuses to release anything else on the Switch. I suspect they also don’t like that they can’t just slap a port onto it and just swap out the button graphics.
