Verhoeven did not read or even understand StarshipTroopers and its philosophical ideas it put forth. He thought that the Federation was fascist when it was not. Heck the bugs are more fascists than the Federation. The Federation is an Individualistic society versus the Bugs which are a Collectivist society.
Shame Verhoeven never read the book then butchered it to make a satire on facism..... when there isn't any actual facism (literally the closest they get to facism is ooooo scary black tranch coats)

Red eye you really need to do a review of the book. One of the things they did have the budget for is the fact that they are a mobile armor division and the bugs are just weak civilians that Rico and his squad blow up while running around and jumping really high.
What ever happened is this movie is freaking awesome! I will have to re-watch it for the 57th time. It's too bad the sequels didn't live up to this one. Although Starship Troopers 3 is very good if you can get past the super low budget.
Great movie! Music during the drop scene is really good. I think they are in high school because Mr. 35% was supposed to be going to Harvard. You ever think the Mobile Infantry leaders conspired to wipe Buenos Ares off the planet in order to get Mr. 35% back into the fight? I hope you do the other two Starship Trooper movies.

I know it sounds snobby, but I have seen it said that this film is a really good barometer on how people view films. A lot of people just see it as a dumb action movie, instead of a clever joke that even most of the actors don't seem to be in on.

This need a follow up video discussing how Carmen changing the course was the reason that they hit an astroid deflecting it towards earth and setting the rest of the movie in motion. So not only is she breaking hearts but she's also the single reason why Humans invaded Klendathu lol
It’s been awhile since I’ve seen this movie, but didn’t the bugs send the asteroid and her ship was damaged so it couldn’t send a warning? I mean, she’s the worst, so I’m fine with her being responsible for millions of deaths, but I think the film tries to blame the bugs.
As someone who loves this movie, Robocop, and Total Recall, I can't help but roll my eyes at anyone who talk about how they are "satires" yes, Paul Verhoffen did write them as "satires" but I have yet to hear anyone provide a single explanation of what his satire is actually saying. just saying that it is a "satire of nationalism, fascism, and the military" doesn't magically mean that it is saying anything meaningful, is done well, or isn't undone by the presentation of the rest of the movie. These are great movies, and Robocop in particular does have meaningful things to say about identity and humanity, but can people please stop insisting they are satires of society and refuse to elaborate past that?
It always cracked me up the arrogance the humans in the movie had in downplaying the bugs being smart even though the bugs managed to hit Earth with an asteroid launched from another solar system, something that would take an incredible amount of intelligence and/or computing ability due to the vastness of space.
Yeah, it’s actually a story about a fascist human civilization invading the territory of an advanced alien society disguised as a big action movie. I didn’t get it as a kid, but there’s a reason why NPH looks like he got his outfit at the end of the film from a Third Reich clothing store.

He tells them he wants to be a citizen, but that's not why he really joined. He wanted to follow Carmen into pilot school, but got assigned mobile infantry instead. There's a deleted scene of Carmen consoling him when he doesn't make pilot, and the scene is also in the novel.
Always thought Diz was sOoOoo much hotter than Captain Carmen. That outta the way, it's hard to imagine how so many people didn't get that this movie was satirical.
This has got to be one of the biggest gaps between how good it was as a movie (quite!) and how good it was as an adaptation of a book (not!). Dizzy did, at least, die on the way up.
