Thanks for the gti review! I figured you would enjoy it. It is definately quicker than the GLI power wise and more sharp of a chassis/steering/suspension. GTI has the updated gen 4 ea888 but it will be slower with the manual. It is also quite bad at launching and 0-60. You can turnoff the nannies but the TC still kicks in despite saying everything is off. This makes first gear acceleration esp poor with standstill launches. It's definately a roll car. I really like my 40th anniversary gti so far. It also has the adaptable suspension and I can make it feel like a camry or a sporty car. It's a crisp, light, peppy and agile car with great practicality, mpg and pretty good looks.
@@basslover352 Thank you for watching! It's definitely got good roll power. While it does have slightly more power, I didn't notice any actual performance difference between the GTI and the GLI on the 60-100mph times. I looked at the magazine times and they are super close in each discipline.
@@DMCarReviews Yea they are close enough that environmental factors are more of a variance than anything. I would say the GTI dsg vs GLI dsg would favor the GTI given the mag trap times (101 for gli and 105 for gti both from c@d) but for the most part fairly close in real world driving.
@ The 105 figure is completely unrealistic for that car, I don't know how they even came up with that. That car is 241hp. It traps 100-101 like a GLI does. The A4 with 273hp traps 101-102. The new Golf R I tested trapped 105-106. Maybe they had a stage 1 tuned GTI in their testing😂
@@DMCarReviews Well the a4 is awd with 3600-3700lbs. It's no faster because of that weight. The manual gti mk8 was 101mph. All c@d numbers. While they are higher, they are from the same source so I call that valid.
@ Well the A4 is 3600 lbs, but it's got an extra 30hp over the GTI and a mild hybrid setup for additional power, so if you do the math their weight to power ratios are very close. As for the trap speed, 101 is about right for the MK8, but 105 must be an APR+ tuned one, definitely tweaked. You aren't getting 4 extra miles per hour just because of a different gearbox. I drove the DSG's and I wouldn't call them "faster" in the higher speeds vs the manual. Off a dig within the first few gears they will have an advantage, but on the highway the manual actually has better spacing and needs less shifts. I've definitely seen many instances were C&D either under report or great over report the trap speeds. That's why I always do my own testing to see the real world times.
Nice review, I would not pay $40 K For a VW GTI which is a hatchback. Even though, it's a nice car. I think I will choose the Elantra N, or the Acura Integra over the VW GTI SE 380. How much is the type R?
@@aloy.5131 I agree! Imagine going 84 on highway, getting hit by a police radar and being clocked in at 85, which is the reckless driving speed threshold. I'd rather it be a couple of miles per hour over optimstic, where it shows 80, but you're actually going 77-78 by GPS.
