Anyone else doing DIY in the freezing cold? 😂
Fitting new handlebars to the road bike with you and Mark on in the pain cave . Say hi to the big fella . Tell him to cut his hair, shave hair makes things look bigger . I’m talking about 💪 😉
Attempting you outdoor Eero hack tomorrow 🤞🏻
9.35 clever editing by mark just as the logs fell out 😉
Love these type of channels, usually end up joining them 2-3 years into it so to see all this from the beginning is going to be great
Great job. I’ve got a Portex Logmaster and they are fantastic bits of kit for cutting up logs and branches.
😂 Jen’s butt shape on the tailgate of the cart was just too funny 😂- No, you don’t need to make Jen into a log of wood, just get a better cart! Bigger so you can haul more less often! Work smarter, not harder. Maybe look into purchasing a tractor with a bucket lift you can swap out when needed with a fork lift. You’ll need it on a property that large. It was the best investment I made for my farm! And, it won’t get stuck! ❤
Love all the new wood cubbies! Great job you two- thank you for ‘hauling’ us along… get it? 😂❤
Tractor comes soon!!
Have you considered using some of the leas desirable wood to fill in all that mud in the worst areas? It could be pushed down into the mid to make a temporary kind of bridge.
5:59 Mark "This is an absolute beast, 4-wheel drive, and you'd have to be a complete muppet to get this stuck anywhere"
Jen "Just watch me"
Who even needs a gym with all this work to be done! Surprised the swimming pool isn't first priority - I hear Mark loves a swim
😂 Maybe that's why he wants to fill it in...
Canada here. A moisture meter is useful to determine if "bone dry" is ....well dry😊
We have one! 😃
Always logging in this weather. Especially here in North Devon. By the way your chainsaw is blunt. Love the vlogs
Or not putting enough load on the bar. The way it was being used with that hinge and the height made it pretty awkward looking. Sharpening is important too of course.
One dip into the dirt while running… and it’s blunt. Jen get yourself a £40 chainsaw sharpener - job done!
Loving this content!
👍 Proper Job.
You survived! #winning
It's like Clarkson's Farm 😊
Another good watch , only just thought of you this morning , not been able to run due to flu and a chest infection, pushed hard at end of Parkrun took a place just on the line Mark style, and just snuck in above average . Our son has a wood burner and pays a lot of money for bags of wood.
Congrats on taking a place at the finish line! 😃
Please don’t put the tarp on the front. Air flow is way more important than stopping a like rain hitting the wood on a stormy day. The purpose of the log store is to let the sap dry from the wood. Airflow is key to this That gives you the clean burn from seasoned logs. The log store roof is more than adequate as is the fact you have made a good base to the store.
Great work.
I don't see how the tarps are restricting airflow given that the sides are full of holes, the tarps are loose fitting and stop well short of the bottom. Rain in ordinary weather will keep the wood wet in British weather without some cover, imo.
A much improved version, as used by Tao Wimbush at The Lammas Project in Pembrokeshire, uses perspex sheets to keep the woodstore as warm as possible on dry, sunny days, keeps rain off, and allows access through permanently open doorways at either side. (I've tried to find a good picture, but failed)
This channel is giving strong ITV 2006 vibes and its great
That may be peak ITV era 😂
Great foreshadowing about the brush cutter... also what's a brush cutter?
I burn wood to heat my house in the winter. I use 4-5 cords of wood per year, roughly 14.5-18 cubic meters if that is how you calculate wood volume. I buy wood in log lengths and process it myself to save money. I recommend figuring out how long of a piece of wood will fit into your stove and cut to that length. I try to keep about a weeks worth of wood in the house in case the weather isn't conducive to going out to get wood. As nice as the buildings to hold wood look they aren't always practical and I prefer to stack my wood on pallets and cover it with tarps.
We store about a week's worth in our porch. 😊
Hi Both, any chance you can list the items of equipment you use for these jobs ;)
Great work. Loving the series. I’d recommend wearing some chainsaw chaps/trousers every time you use the chainsaw. Good luck with everything. 👍🏻
I would't use it without!
After - Before? Good work regardless 👍🏻
I can see a ‘Dick Strawbridge’ career for Mark (just without the ‘tache) and Jen’s a bit of a natural as well. Good effort, keep it up.
So, training for the new Hyrox event, the bogged Izeki pull.
What trainers for that? 😂
I'd recommend putting some more time into researching different concepts for drying wood. It's important for it to get air all around most of the logs (3 logs deep is max) and to split them quickly into the smallest sensible diameters you're going to use. Doing this all in the cold is perfect, since the air will be dry and pull out more residual humidity... Also: drying in general is something that happens over a long time. The water on the outside does not stop this process on the inside, so you don't have to be worried if the wood is rained on or lies on the wet ground for a little while, that this is a problem. It's not.
We processed a lot of wood on my family's orchard. My dad always said that the cold is what dries wood out the best. Mind you we got to -20C here in Canada. Thanks for the video Jen and Mark
Wow that is chilly!
@@jenlewislife is not all the time. Right now it's been warm here. We are sitting around 5c. That's super warm for December and January. We are just waiting for the other show to drop.
No need to cover front of log store with a tarp. Rain water on logs doesn’t matter. It’s the moisture in the wood ie sap that needs drying out. Covering it will defeat this
Mark will then be sad his curtain making skills weren't actually necessary 😂
Was going to ask for an update on how the dogs like living in the country but believe I saw Nixon toward the end of the video?
They are both absolutely loving life here. Nixon swims every day, Lincoln gets to carry as many sticks home as he likes. 🥰
Won’t that wood get wet with rain/wind and the air humidity? Shouldn’t it be in closed doors?
You are doing great, muppets or not 🙈🙈. Your enthusiasm will help you a long way, but there is also quite a bit of learning to do.
I sincerely want you both to avoid injuries..... thus I propose that Mark (and eventually Jen too) find some kind of training courses, where he learns how to use a chain saw, with proper guidance from a professional. Learn not only to cut with it safely (by far the most important part to learn), but maintenance, how to oil it, how to shift the chain, how to sharpen it and so forth 👍👍👍. Getting those things right from the beginning can save you A LOT of time and effort and possibly keep you from injury.
The day when you really need to split wood in bulk, consider using a log splitter (machine). If you choose the much more fun and fit way i.e. using an axe, make sure you have a good splitting axe/maul. Fellow youtuber Thoren Bradley has nice videos on the topic - the Fiskars axe is an OK product, but the hollow handle sends far more vibration up into your shoulders than a wood handle does. Know, that there are huge differences between cutting axes and splitting axes/mauls. A dedicated splitting axe/maul cannot fell a tree, but it is WAY superior at splitting wood. A cutting axe can fell a tree, and CAN be used for splitting, but it requires far more energy to do it.
Again, there is time, effort, health and possibly money to save by getting proper equipment.
Take care and keep making those awesome videos 👍☀️❤️☀️👍.
We have now got a wood splitter! 😃 Will be featuring in an upcoming video.
Seems like above average curtain making. 😂
😂
Those gold leggings are unreal😮
And the brown pair
@@jamesg1501 got wood?
I see what you did there 😂
Well done on changing the video title. Less 'I'and 'my,' when you're doing this as a great team
Who's got wood?
You may want to invest in some chain saw pants and steel toe boots when using the chainsaw. A chainsaw can end your career. Safety first.
We have got all the gear! 😃
