Hi Adam, if you get a chance, can you check out my recent video “California Aqueduct - Striped Bass Gone Wild” of the problem I am having on my Abu Garcia Revo SX 7.3:1 reel. It’s hard to explain the problem. In the beginning of the video, it shows that the reel is making lots of noise when trying to reel in and also not retrieving any line. I already check the star drag and tensioner. Regardless of it being all the way to the max or loose or in the middle, the problem still occurs with all the adjustments I’m testing. I lost the receipt and warranty from bass pro so I can’t exchange for a new one. It has straight braid with mono backing. Have never took it apart yet to diagnose it. Do I need to buy the Abu Garcia maintenance kit? It’s only been used 1 time and problem came out of nowhere. Sucks cause I really like the reel, but it’s a headache with this problem I’m having. I just wanted to know if you ever encounter this type of problem on any baitcaster reel and what did you do to solve the problem? Sorry for the long message. Anyways, great informative video! 🤙
@@FishOnRonnie Hi Ronnie, thanks for commenting and asking the question. It sounds to me like your main gear is spinning, but not connecting with the pinion gear. You said in the video it's new? Have you opened it? I would love to help, but it would be better through email. My contact info is available through Instagram. Same page name as my channel. Or you could DM me on instagram.
Adam's Reel Adventures Thanks Adam for the quick reply. I’ll contact you if I have anymore questions. As of now I don’t have the Abu Garcia maintenance kit. I’ll probably order it soon. No oil or grease for the parts, but I think I’m just going to take it apart and put it back together (not sure how far I’ll go). I just want to see if I can notice anything unusual installed wrong or broken parts. If I had the receipt and warranty, I would of just take it back to Bass pro shop and get a replacement or repaired somewhere, but they are only doing curbside pick up, no exchange or returns, and not open to the public due to the Coronavirus situation.
@@FishOnRonnie Please do let me know if you need help. If I was just to guess, I would say your pinon gear is not seated completely flush and the teeth aren't lining up with your main gear. Between 25:23 and 25:35 in this video I talk about this. Use my video for the disassembly and reassembly if needed. You don't necessarily need the maintenance kit, the reel should already be well oiled and greased if it's new, and I don't think that's your problem. Good luck! Reach out if you need it.
I totally agree. It also helped me explain more thoroughly because he needed to follow along. It's easy to forget some details when you're focused on what you're doing.
Great video only thing l kept doing wrong was not ligning up nipples on plastic clicker to line up with slots on thread. Finally figured it out after a few takes. Not sure you mentioned to the viewers!!! Very important no alignment NO CLICK!!! 🇨🇦
@@QuietWildernessFishing yes sir, helpful video. I've never done this before but broke down and cleaned my revo rocket. Very informational and I appreciate the help
I realize now you meant my buddy Neal 😆. He did great, helped me explain what I was doing better by having someone right there. Glad the video helped, gonna be putting up a spin reel cleaning video in the near future. 🤘
@@jonlejcar5306 completely agree. All the springs, screws, and gears seem like a lot. But when ya break it down one piece at a time, it's much easier than most think. Glad it helped!
Thanks guy bought a couple new abu think I’m gonna open them up and grease them up a bit notice drag was a little herky jerky proably need grease that back side of main gear
Gonna give this a go soon because I haven’t cleaned my reel yet lol. Hopefully everything goes good but I need to go buy some degreaser, oil, and grease first
Very important to make sure you've got the tools and materials you need. Otherwise, it's a simple process if you take your time. Ask any questions here 🤙
Have you opened up and cleaned your H20 Express reel. I have a Mystic MY-10BB73 reel and cannot get into the Pinion gears. Took out screws but it will not open up. Any ideas or tips?
Do U have a A video on the generation one Revo SX bait caster I believe that’s the generation I have I’m not sure it is letting out line when the drag is totally tightened down still and handle spins still I’d think it would stop ? And reel in whatever it was or just not reel?
I did this all and it greatly improved the smoothness of my reel(revo S) but now my drag no matter how tight I tighten it, the drag doesn't have much power at all, before this it was very strong. I made sure no grease or lube got on the drag area and even cleaned the metal parts of the things that go between the carbon fiber washers with degreaser and wiped it down but still the drag is very weak. I need help if someone knows what this is please let me know. also adam if you are reading this please let me know if there is anything I can, I made sure everything was in the right place 3 times and still the drag has no power at all. PLS HELP
Is it possible you replaced the spring washers for the drag star flush with eachother? If you remove the drag star, there should be two bent washers that when placed correctly create a spring and allow you to tighten and put tension on the drag washers. I would start there - 7:40 is when I mention it.
haha, those tweezers are from my wifes cricut machine. If you search for "cricut tweezers" you will find what you're looking for. That multi-size socket tool is a skateboard tool I had kicking around. Happened to be the right size. Thanks for watching!
I have a gen 4 revo premier but want the sx rocket gear ratio in my premier what I have to do to get that gear ratio? I don’t like the gen 4 line up they all are heavy beside the gen 4 premier

Also, I’ve notice even with the star drag all the way to the max, you can still pull line easily, but spool skips and makes noises still.

Thanks guys. I was afraid to do it, but thanks to you I did it. The SX4 works like new.👍👍👍

I don't know that it's possible to change gear ratio in a reel. 🤷🏻♂️ Would be cool tho! Hopefully you're able to find you where somewhere.
Ty for the respond
Call a bu have to get pinion and main gear they are matched set
Anyone else can’t take the collar sleeve on the main gear off?
Sometimes it just needs a good wiggle
Yeah my cover isn't going back on
It's possible the spool isn't seated properly. Let me know if you can see what is stopping to cover from going back on.
Not going to lie, I really dislike my abu revo sx. My black max casts further and is less likely to backlash
Never used a blackmax. The SX is measurably higher quality, I wonder if it's your settings. I don't have those issues with this real at all.
