  • Today I'm repairing my Daiwa Tatula 200. I broke/stripped the main drive shaft and handle nut. This was my fault due to an improper hookset/angle. I'm going to fix my mistake and bring this beast of a reel back into working condition. I've also got a new Gomexus handle upgrade! I'll show you how easy their handles are to install!

Do you think the newer handle screw has more thread engagement on the main shaft? Also curious if they recommend any thread lock on the threads? Maybe a dab of medium blue? Those handles look sweet though! I need to throw one on my CT to get some extra "ugga duggas" as I winch in those 1.5lbers.

Debo, You should look into getting a set of Wera screw drivers for baitcasters. The flathead screw driver is a size 0.8-4.0 for Diawa as they use flat head screws and the Phillips head is a Wera posidrive size 0 (model 3355) and it fits reel screws perfectly so you don’t have to worry about stripping the little screws. You can get them on Amazon but they work really well and I’ve never stripped a screw. They are a game changer. The flat head driver you probably don’t need as any flat head will work but the Phillips head screws can be stripped easily and the posidrive size 0 will pull them right out. The posidrive works for Shimano, Lews, 13 fishing and Abu Garcia. You won’t have to worry about stripping the screws. again. Thanks for everything you do

I jacked up my Diawa Tatula CT100XSL when l hooked a giant snapping turtle. Totally my fault, l tightened the drag all the way and dragged it in. Now when the drag is set stiff the handle and spool pops and spins. I'm definitely going to attempt to fix. I pulled the handle and side plate off and poked around a little but couldn't really see anything obvious.

  • @RyanSmith-fb8rf

One more trick I use to clean my bearings is I bought an ultrasonic cleaner from Amazon for like $20 and the vibration cleans the bearings and then you just put oil in them and your bearings are good as new. I use Reelx oil and grease it’s the best stuff I’ve ever used and prevents rust if you use your reels in saltwater

Working on a reel is a blast and should not be intimidating. When I buy a reel (used or new) I take it apart immediately and upgrade or modify the lube and bearings to MY standards. Even some high end models leave the factory dry and with missing parts. It's a great way to learn how the reel works and customize it to what you need it to do.

Those gears need some grease Debo my man. That sucker was drryyyyyy. I tear my reels down every year at the end of the season. You can put grease on everything inside, including the bearing and hole where the handle fits down. It'll make that reel MUCH smoother on the retrieve. I recommend soaking your bearings in rubbing alcohol for 10-15 minutes, then applying a single drop, and for your worm gear, just use a thicker oil. Greasing your worm gear is just asking for dirt to get in there, and ruin your paw. Edit: For the gears and handle base, use a thicker grease like Shimano's Ace-2 or orange marine yamalube.

I'm new to fishing. I bought a Abu Black Max combo. Had it less than a month dropped it in the lake while the lake was 11ft high. 3 weeks later after the water went down back to norm I went back out and found it. Tore it apart and cleaned it. I guess I didn't get it back together just right. First cast in the yard and bam. The thumb button broke. Not sure that it's worth the time and effort to fix because I know nothing about reels. Talk about being hard on myself after watching it sink.......

I switched from a gomexus handle to a larger daiwa handle and I liked the daiwa more.

I'm just now watching this, I have a tatula 300 that has a waorn down pawl. I saw your other vid about pawl replacement, best on the tube! Quick question, what tool do you recommend to remove e-clips from reels? As you know, Diawa has some tiny e-clips, especially the ones securing the worm gear. Thanks!

How did it break? I can't believe it broke from normal use! Oh, ok you pulled on the knob so hard that you stripped the brass bolt!

Nice repair! I been watching your frog videos, how did the last king speed demon 9.3:1 reel hold up? I just picked on up for my frog rod.

I just had to replace the pinion gear on my lews speed spool after only owning it for two years. When I called customer service they said that they were not selling any parts and that they were saving all parts for warranty only. They then said call back in six weeks and they would re evaluate if they would be selling part then. I was so piss and got ugly with them. After talking to the supervisor, I was able to buy 2 gears. I will not be buying anymore lews products. This reel was on my frog rod. I only own one frog rod and was not willing to wait for parts.

That's strange as hell. I have no idea why they wouldn't sell parts? A bad customer experience like that can definitely turn you off from a company!

There's a couple of lakes here that prohibit the catch and release of trout and carp. If I'm bass fishing in these lakes and I happen to catch a trout or carp, what should I do? Is it even likely to catch those fish while I'm fishing for bass? I'm new to fishing in lakes
