I’m 14 and I just listened to the Illmatic. I didn’t realize how many of the songs on the album I’ve herd with my dad when I was really young, and almost all of them brought back nastalgic memories and vibes. Definitely can say this is my favorite album.
I couldn't appreciate this when I first heard it as a child, but this song is very special. It walks a fine line between showing love, and respect to brothers in jail while not glorifying crime and violence. Actually shows how they're victims of it too despite their role in it, but doesn't judge. Brilliant, nuanced chronicle of black life in the city, no other rapper has even gotten close.

At the time I was to young to understand what it meant but as I got older in the 90s it was different. But 1999 I was all the way in on who nas was and what he meant to NYC. By 1999 things were different I was about 13 years old and was all the way in on the I Am album.

I’m 14 and I just listened to the Illmatic. I didn’t realize how many of the songs on the album I’ve herd with my dad when I was really young, and almost all of them brought back nastalgic memories and vibes. Definitely can say this is my favorite album.

I couldn't appreciate this when I first heard it as a child, but this song is very special. It walks a fine line between showing love, and respect to brothers in jail while not glorifying crime and violence. Actually shows how they're victims of it too despite their role in it, but doesn't judge. Brilliant, nuanced chronicle of black life in the city, no other rapper has even gotten close.

Crazy that 27yrs has gone by so fast. Look at rap now besides a few hip hop has lost its roots. No story telling, no individuality, beats all the same. It's a shame man. Glad I grew up in the greatest era of hip hop.
@@froey198033 Was in elementary school when this album dropped going into the summer of 1994 had to be around 8 or 9 years old remember hearing old these songs. At the time I was to young to understand what it meant but as I got older in the 90s it was different. But 1999 I was all the way in on who nas was and what he meant to NYC. By 1999 things were different I was about 13 years old and was all the way in on the I Am album.
