    94 1/2 ton 5.7L V-8 2 wheel drive chevy Silverado single cab short bed.
    I cut 5 and1/2 inches from the gas cap to 31 inches.
    From the from the front bed cut from 5 inches out to 17.
    Was going to try the tipped bed method after being too weak to loosen the bolts was going to use the impact wrench when my air compressor failed.
    Decided against dropping the tank and used a DREMAL to cut an access hatch and I don't regret doing it. The real satisfaction is realized after cutting an access hatch and knowing if there's ever an issue with said item again....it'll be a whole lot easier and cheaper to deal with.

    I'm sure glad for your video. I told my husband for 20 minutes what needed to be done and he said that's ridiculous. When he heard the words that I was telling him come out of your mouth he done it, and guess what... it worked.

    My 15 year old son and 62 year old uncle took out the bed bolts, used a 2x4 to brace up the bed. They then went to parts store, bought just the electrical pump. It was 38 dollars. It was fixed before I got home from work.

    Thanks man! I'm going to attempt it today and going to cut the bed to get in there. Lots of good tips and greatly appreciated! I'll edit a follow up later on.

    a good tip to clean the area before removing the old pump is to spray the whole area with wd40 saturate it really good. then use compressed air from a compressor and blow away all the debris works great leaves it perfectly clean. so no dirt falls into the tank while installing the new pump.

    Will it work on a step side? I did the same thing on an Isuzu trooper one time.....

    Keep in mind before you start cutting (THERES 3 DIFFERENT SIZE TANKS) for this year of truck.

      Yep, I got the big boy 34 gallon tank. We went under, took measurements, and cut it, and it was literally perfectly centered. Making a hatch out of plate steel on a hinge. It’s under to tool box so it’s kinda hidden plus nothing will hit the hatch.

    Dose it matter which hoes you put on the outlets because I’m doing this to my truck and I didn’t make the lines so I have no idea which line goes to what outlet

    • @jeffro221
      @jeffro221 ปีที่แล้ว

      No it doens't matter at all which hose goes on which pump fitting. I have mine hooked up so the gasoline all gets pumped right into the cab becuase I like the smell and the raw gas keeps the floor mats nice and clean. Just hook em up in any order.

    it is only 8 bolts to lift the bed

    • @user-bg2oi4bz3p
      @user-bg2oi4bz3p 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's no fun when when the bolts snap off.

  • @johnrhodes101875

    And there's lew with all the answers you also have to disconnect all the electrical lights and you have to take out the 3 screws that hold the plastic thing on behind the fuel door unless you're Superman how are you go to lift the bed all by yourself.

    • @stefenvictor
      @stefenvictor 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      johnrhodes101875 you do not need to disconnect the lights and you can just loosen the passenger side bolts, then use a jack and a 2x4 to lift the drivers side of the bed.

    Since you installed an Airtex (which used to be a quality pump), one benefit is you will get lots of practice doing this job because Airtex is now chinese made junk and you WILL be replacing it way early. Many say within months. One pro shop youtuber said the last 7 or 8 Airtex pumps in a row he put in for customers were all early come backs that he had to replace with another brand. That little bit you save buying a cheapo Airtex pump will come back to haunt you. But if you enjoy changing them out, buy Airtex!

    Why in Gods name would you ruin the bed by cutting a huge hole in the bed??WOW!

    • @TheMEXICANBEEF
      @TheMEXICANBEEF 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Chris Hood not ruined. Weld it back or make a door. Having replaced many fuel pumps, the access door idea isn't a bad one. Half the pumps you get are bad or have a faulty check valve. I usually try to drop the tank, but trucks like these can be a pain to do by yourself. Seems like people always leave 1/2 tank or more of fuel in the tank too.

    Should be called How to Cut a Access Panel Above Your Tank. Too much time wasted on that.
