From what I can remember, having lived through the Albany tricentennial in 1986 - the two guys up front in the video (the ones who spell "A-L" and "B-A") were Mason and Sheehan, the morning DJs on WPYX-106. They teamed up with David Allen (local songwriter celebrity who spells one of the "N-Y" parts) and The Sharks to produce the song as the "unofficial" song of the 300th birthday, and then of course they played it nonstop on the radio all during that summer. It's one of those earworms that never go away, and now I sing the spelling part to my kids whenever we go near Albany or mention Albany (we don't live there any more).
I remember seeing this on TV at my friend's house on Lancaster street in 1986. She said she'd make a video for me and then she lost the tape. I was broken hearted, never thinking I'd hear the song again. Now, thru the wonders of the internet, I have, and CORN LIVES!!!!
I had to move to Santa Fe because I'm sick and need family to see me out...However, I miss Albany so so much, and listening to this song brings me back to the Tri-Centennial. It was the time of my life! I love Corneeeeeeee things!
WOW !!!! I almost forgot how bad this song was !!!! I can understand David Allen doing this type of a project, but unfortunately it was a "jump the shark" moment for The Sharks. One of the finest bands to come out of Albany during the early 80's. The one good thing about coming across this video was it reminded me of great times. I was fortunate enough to have the privilege of working with The Sharks as their lighting technician. It's good to see the guys again and I truly hope all are well
Wow, I just found this. I wrote the Official Song for the Albany Tricentennial Celebration which never got any airplay, but I did get a check for $500. "Oh, Albany" was a really good song, but I don't get to play it now that I live in Florida. So now I write Florida songs. Maybe I should record the song and post it. I never did like this song.
The only thing I got out of the song was the fact that Ed O'Brien was in with channel 10 crew outside of their channel 10 van in the background where he started his news broadcasting career then to WRGB he is a legend God bless him
@IxILegendary Columbia High School is a very, very common name, and a two second google search turns up a Columbia High about 3 miles from downtown Atlanta, which is where he was born. No way he's from EG

Gotta love the "insert Governor here".
Our leaders are just as caring as they ever were.
Also love the cardboard cutout in the chorus.
That's a cardboard cutout of "Herb--the only person who's never had a Whopper", part of a Burger King ad campaign back in 1986.
this is the best song ever made.
It suck!

It seemed like a good idea at the time.
I don't feel well
Only watching this because I have covid. Now I'm blind

I wish Burger King still carried the record.
This is Awesome.
"The record can be purchased at any Burger King for $2"
Lmao right
Amazing.
This was even cornier than I expected, and I expected a lot of corn.
Kind of a banger, tho.
Hail yourselves.
Albany celebrating Albany as only Albany can.
2:10 [Insert Governor Here]
Is that big John studd that hit those 2 people together??? And do I see the guardian angels?
The surprising thing is this was shot last week.
this is still better than most modern music
The only thing I got out of the song was the fact that Ed O'Brien was in with channel 10 crew outside of their channel 10 van in the background where he started his news broadcasting career then to WRGB he is a legend God bless him
Holy hometown!!!! AHAHHAHAHAAHAHAHAHAHA
What did I just see?
Does anyone know if you can get this on iTunes?

I'm less embarassed of the 70's now
Why does the priest wear a Michael Jackson glove?
Thanks
Is that Senator Chuck Schumer dressed as a priest at 2:37?
omg stop it!!!
Wrong! He was talking about the song. It did not give Albany the props it deserved.
There is no way that this was ever cool. Even back then. Lol
damn, the stuff stuff Burger King used to sell (other than food) used to be way more awesome. all you can get now are crappy toys.
@MooseShady talking about Albany. not the song.
The song sucks!
@IxILegendary LIES...hes from georgia...
This video gave me covid
Ahhh the 80's...when everything was corny.
What the actual fuck?
As if there weren't already enough reasons to be ashamed of Albany.
Wondered if Albany had a song and now I know......that it's terrible.
@anrchyvk He'd probably think you were a witch doing the work of Satan. And he'd basically be right.
I just lost 3:33 of my life I'll never get back.
I felt suicidal that day
Second hand embarrassment like you read about
What a dull song for a dull city
It’s certainly not New York City but it’s got its upstate charm
what the fart
@kz1000ps :b
You should stop saying 'like'
hahaha- there's a reason that no famous person has ever come from albany....
Legs Diamond was killed here. Fame is a one-way street in this town. Lol
William Kennedy
This is arguably the worst song ever
good, GTFO. less whiners preferred.
That's the worst thing I've ever seen, and I've watched loved ones die of cancer.
I wish Burger King still carried the record.
This is Awesome.
