Meanwhile,...in a parallel universe,...Slam Bamboo got it's big break right after this performance on AM Cleveland, when a record executive from Warner Brothers Records happened to be watching the show during a layover in Cleveland. The band was ultimately signed to a lucrative record contract shortly after their keyboardist, Trent Reznor, left the band to work on his own solo music project "Pretty Hate Machine", which only sold a few thousand copies out of the trunk of his car, leading to his life of anonymity. Slam Bamboo, on the other hand, went on to release a string of five straight Top 40 hits off their first platinum-selling album. After a successful world tour with several bands opening for them, including R.E.M, Aerosmith, and the Smashing Pumpkins among others, Slam Bamboo got busy working on their second album, which included their biggest hit "Rewind Time", the theme song written for the film "Back To The Future Part III". The band also had a brief cameo appearance in that movie as a clone metal hair band in the year 2085. This song won them a Grammy and an Oscar award. As huge success came, tensions began to rise in the band as well. These tensions culminated when Scott Hanson was fired by the other band members in mid 1992 and Tim Kirker then took over as lead singer and front man. In response to his ousting, Hanson accused the others of being envious of him and said "I was fired for making them famous!". After this, public interest in the group waned, and their next single, "You Turned Your Back On Me", failed to make the Top 40. Their subsequent new album, was a commercial disappointment, peaking at only No. 38 in the U.S., although the band was still quite popular in Iceland. In an attempt to regain credibility and lose their light-hearted image, the remaining three members relaunched as Slamboo in January of 1994. Following the name change, the band released the single "You Shouldn't Do That" in August of 1994. The song was featured on their fourth album, "Crazy Rich". After this album proved unsuccessful, the group disbanded by December of 1995. The original four piece line-up of the band briefly joined forces again on VH1's "Bands Reunited" in 2003. The group received many offers and incentives to continue to play together, but disagreements continued between the band members and the reunion was short-lived. The band again dissolved the following year. Scott Hanson returned to Cleveland and after a brief stint in politics as a city alderman, he retired modestly on the residuals from "Back To The Future Part III". Greg Thomas entered drug rehab for an ecstasy addiction, then relapsed, but after a few years of sobriety, he started a successful camp for struggling bass guitar players in northern Massachusetts. Ron Musarra died in August of 2008 after being hit by a bus while crossing a street in downtown San Francisco,...he was wearing a brand new set of Beats by Dre headphones at the time, and didn't hear the bus honking at him. Tim Kirker went on to produce a few more music projects, but in 2009 he was convicted of embezzlement, and spent the next 5 years in a federal prison. When asked during a 2015 interview with Rolling Stone magazine if he would do anything differently considering the turn his life had taken, Kirker only said, "I'd probably trade places with,...heck, I don't know,...Trent Reznor." This story is based on true events,...in a parallel universe of course...

This band is in no way bad at what they are doing, they just weren't at the right place at the right time or something. Maybe would have been succesfull if they were doing this 5 years earlier.
The chorus is catchy enough to be a hit. If Duran Duran made a song like this it would have been a hit. These guys were probably too niched to survive the change that happened towards the late 80's into the early 90s.
As much hate as people are sending you are being really kind. Some of these “NIN fans” don’t have a clue. You know your story Scott and that’s all that matters. People who think they know don’t. This was a fun jem I’m so happy you shared with us. Thank you!
Watched all three videos. I have to say, I love your guys' music! Wish you guys made it bigger than just "the band that Trent Reznor played in." You guys deserve a lot of recognition as just a good band in yourselves, miming or not.
In Trent's "Archetype of a Synthesizer" interview Trent says that while he taught himself music he "got a job doing the jobs nobody else wanted to do from cleaning toilets to... well put it this way, just bad stuff that nobody wants to do." this video puts a whole new context behind it
It's so awesome cuz you expect Trent to be the lead singer, then you see him brooding, playing synth, wearing all black in a sea of color. It's funny cuz it's ironic.
Here as a result of a random fb short. Scott this is quintessentially late 80’s and for that reason alone (amongst others) it is phenomenal! Cracking song! Absolutely of it’s time and as it plays you’re immediately transported back there. For such I thank you. Play on man!
This video shows just how well he understood popular music. His tenacity and perseverance is to be commended. Bravo Trent. You knew you were to be famous, whether from 80’s synth pop or whatever followed.
Thanks for putting up this piece of music history! I actually enjoyed the song. Its funny to see all the edgy goth lords on here that can't appreciate a different side of an artist. i actually like this song
Thank you
This band is in no way bad at what they are doing, they just weren't at the right place at the right time or something. Maybe would have been succesfull if they were doing this 5 years earlier.
The chorus is catchy enough to be a hit. If Duran Duran made a song like this it would have been a hit. These guys were probably too niched to survive the change that happened towards the late 80's into the early 90s.
This song is just very different style than Nine Inch Nails, an apples to oranges comparison if you try to compare the two bands.
Cool song! Glad I stumbled upon it. Gonna be stuck in my head for awhile now.
As much hate as people are sending you are being really kind. Some of these “NIN fans” don’t have a clue. You know your story Scott and that’s all that matters. People who think they know don’t. This was a fun jem I’m so happy you shared with us. Thank you!
Trent made a HUGE mistake leaving this band!!!
He did the best mistake of his life.
He was never really committed to the band he was just killing time till his debut album was done. Happy?
I think he owes them a Great. Big. Apology.
seeingeyegod that a terrible lie!
Scott Hanson you must have a head like a hole, slam
Watched all three videos. I have to say, I love your guys' music! Wish you guys made it bigger than just "the band that Trent Reznor played in." You guys deserve a lot of recognition as just a good band in yourselves, miming or not.
Thank you for the kind words. Much appreciated.
Agreed! Lovee this song
You guys rocked!
This is an absolute bop, thank you guys!
The drummer (Ron Musarra) also became the first live member of Nine Inch Nails.
ironic, since there wasno live music on this performance
This song is actually, awesome!
Damn, I thought it was horrible, even for 80's music.
Hey!!! love your channel. Your channel is one of my go-to channels for guitar tutorials and such.
Says nobody..ever.
That comma is actually, unnecessary!
My bad - that was some Karyn shit 🤦♀️
Thanks for the upload, enjoyed the song alot!
Awesome stuff!!!!
wow... my left ear is happy ^^"
Trent already showing his darkside with the only one in black leather
This song absolutely SLAPS.
Hi Scott sending you positive vibes for 2022.
Hey man, a job's a job.
In Trent's "Archetype of a Synthesizer" interview Trent says that while he taught himself music he "got a job doing the jobs nobody else wanted to do from cleaning toilets to... well put it this way, just bad stuff that nobody wants to do."
this video puts a whole new context behind it
This is the pinnacle of Reznor’s achievements.
I smoked a ton of weed right before we taped this.
@@shanson23 it seems more like you did a few lines.
@@Tommy88- I wanted to do more but your mother ran out of coke.
@@shanson23 Amazing response you got my respect Shanson23.
Been playing this song a lot lately. Good stuff man.
Great tune! Thanks for sharing.
It's so awesome cuz you expect Trent to be the lead singer, then you see him brooding, playing synth, wearing all black in a sea of color. It's funny cuz it's ironic.
He's not even brooding. He seems to be genuinely having a good time.
Ironic, but at the same time completely expected.
I really love how everyone's in these brightly colored suits and Reznor's just there in the background trying to blend in to the backdrop.
I really like it sounds great I hope u still continue to do music
Love it!
The Talking Heads influence is stellar 💕 would've loved to see you guys make more of that funky goodness
I love this song 🖤
Thank you
Here as a result of a random fb short.
Scott this is quintessentially late 80’s and for that reason alone (amongst others) it is phenomenal! Cracking song! Absolutely of it’s time and as it plays you’re immediately transported back there. For such I thank you. Play on man!
Okay this is a hidden gem. Its so ridiculously 80s. And I love it.
And our keyboardist... Satan
Love this... thank God he isn't the dude in yellow like captions to the pictures state elsewhere
this is such a top 10 radio type song I'm surprised this band didn't get bigger
This video shows just how well he understood popular music. His tenacity and perseverance is to be commended. Bravo Trent. You knew you were to be famous, whether from 80’s synth pop or whatever followed.
This song is bumpin!
Thanks for putting up this piece of music history! I actually enjoyed the song. Its funny to see all the edgy goth lords on here that can't appreciate a different side of an artist. I think some of them would be surprised to hear what some of the purest feeling demos sound like. Anyways, thanks again!
Thank you for the kind words.
A lot of people haven't heard Ministry's first album.
@@psterud I dig With Sympathy. Fake British accent and all! 😆
Twitch is highly underrated as well.
It makes me realize how cringy grown ass NIN fans are lol this is where the bad reputation comes from.
I love Trent, I love Nine Inch Nails and as metalhead as I can be, I also love 80s music and this song is great.
Some people just gotta feed their egos by being annoying on the internet, must be sad to be them.
It's been four years since I've last seen this video and I think this is a really good song. I'm secure enough about myself and my musical tastes to like both Trent Reznor's music and this kind of 80's music. Stop being so harsh on the band - they are good! Peace
this is an absolute BOP scott!!!!
its so cool that you shared this and are offering some insight on of the greatest musicians in the whole world, not alot of people got to know people of that caliber that erly in life
This song is bomb and damn Trent is so cute
I am digging the guitar riffs and the bass lines.
It sounds amazing! i love it. Regards from Argentina 🇦🇷
Awesome man!! Thanks for sharing.
This is amazing. I listened the rest of the album on Spotify and I think this will be my new jam for a while.
Matches in Rain is my favorite. I recommend people to listen to the rest of the album even if it isn't your taste.
Scott and Trent should collaborate on a NIN version of this song.
Not to say that the original version isn't great but I can hear this with a nine inch nails twist and it's equally awesome.
Hey, i listened to you guys first album, it's awesome, classic 80's pop, really good.
Wish I had found this before, its awesomeb👌
Thank you.
