I'm 67 years old now...I picked Benatar out of a bunch of singers as an example...I don't need you to tell me what to listen to...I love Wanda Jackson for years!! She kicks royal ass...Funny how you've got Cher listed among all those extreme punk chicks...I love Benatar, Tina Turner, Heart, and hundreds of other women who sing rock, country, soul, alternative and lots of other styles...I even love Lady Gaga...For you to bound in here and dump your shit on me doesn't take courage...

      I was at the show when she played a festival in front of the Queen Mary in Long Beach CA. same year.
      Sad/embarresed to say I missed her set. There were like 15 or 20 bands and I was at the wrong stage. Think watching the Specials or the Jam. The Selectors played too on Wanda's stage. Iggy Pop on the Main Stage. Fun show.
      Last Festival they did there. Promoter, Goldenvoice, said not enough ppl came out to support it. They moved on to South x Southwest. Shame So Cal didn't show up. Wanda Jackson alone woulda got me out of the house. Bet now during Covid ppl wish for that opportunity.

A quiet shy brunette with a plain guitar strolls onto stage with her backup band in The Fifties. And becomes The Queen Of Rockabilly from the first tumultuous note that she sings. God Bless You To This Day, Miss Wanda!B.W.

      Nope. Brenda Lee was.

    • @TheReviewBoardGaming
      @TheReviewBoardGaming ปีที่แล้ว

      @@rleitros9378 No sorry, but no. Brenda Lee is great in her own right, but certainly not the first female Rocker. Wanda on the other hand is a different story. In the time she did rock, blazed trails for people like Joan Jett, Grace Slick, Ann and Nancy Wilson, Melissa Etheridge, Sheryil Crow. The list goes on. Certainly belongs in both the Rock n Roll and Country Music Hall of Fame equally. Brenda scewed more towards the Nashville sound, not to diminish her contributions, she just didn't do as much on the rock end in terms of performance or musical output. As far as being a trailblazer or inspiration for women and Country and rock, Brenda certainly was.

    • @TheReviewBoardGaming
      @TheReviewBoardGaming ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@rleitros9378 No I'm not ignoring her early stuff at all. The nickname "Little Miss Dynamite" wasn't for nothing. That was during the mid to late 50s, about the time Wanda was doing her thing. Take Dynamite, Lets Jump The Broomstick, Sweet Nothings, or Rock the Bop for instance. So in that sense contemporary. As I said both were quite inspirational, both were trailblazers.

    I totally agree with you. He was the first and the best. He's been away for almost 40 years, and people still listen to his music. He's to pop and rock music what Beethoven and Mozart are to classical music ! ... And as a performer, Elvis was second to none : ask those who had the chance to see him live in concert ! ...

    Definately the greatest female Rock singer. The Queen of Rock for sure. Just so very talented. God Bless you in your 80th year.

    One of my favorites! Wanda's voice; attitude, and witty sense of humor made her one of my favorite performers. I'd love to meet her. She's so cool!

    What a unique woman, great looking with a great voice she must have paved the way for the female fronted bands that followed years later =Blondie, Pretenders etc.

    Lead guitar player to her left is Joe Maphis who was dubbed "King of The Strings". Maphis was the original lead guitar
    player for Ricky Nelson before James Burton took over early n 1958.

    Several of my friends have met her in Oklahoma City. She is reportedly very funny in person. Someone should make a film about her.

      She really had an incredible rapport with the audience in all her performances. I love the way she starts this song... she was hip before the word was invented.

    I had never heard of her or heard her until right now, and I was completely surprised at the voice and sound that suddenly came out of her after her softly spoken introduction.
    I thought I may have been about to hear some earlier version of Cat Steven's song, and ended up hearing an earlier version of Suzie Quatro instead.
    Fantastic stuff.

      I was 14 in 1958 but our family was not really into country music even though we were Texans. I have always heard her name but I don't believe I ever heard until now. I ended up becoming a classical professional violinist but I am in awe of her now after hearing this. Wow, such power!

      I’m sure the reason we never heard of her before she was probably snubbed she seems to be a very powerful woman in those days I am sure it didn’t go over very well in country music

    • @pawelpap9
      @pawelpap9 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I think what you’re trying to say is that Suzie Quatro was the later version of Wanda. Just to keep the chronology straight.
