I just had the same experience with my donor 85 4runner. Before I got my hands on it I knew it had been sitting outside for maybe 10-15 years without a top. It turns out it had been sitting since 1994 outside without a top and it was wrecked. The floors were rusted out and all of the structural stuff in the roof was rusted out.

I wonder if pulling the rubber plugs out of the floor might help save them for people who drive through deep water or let their rigs sit out open.

Time to bust out the grinder and welder and butt weld. Best thing to remember if it’s black it’s coming back… so cut that out!!! It’s daunting but patients and just keep going until your at good metal. Watch fitzy's garage! Then to prevent Use a 2 part epoxy in a can (Eastwood) and a spray can straw to spray in cavities then once your done use cavity wax.

Blue Ohio cab is the one. Carnage on the white cab looks a bit worse, plus the exterior damage on the passenger side.

I won't be complaining about the rust on my Aussie 1984 Hilux, one 10mm hole in the drivers floor, a pin hole around the windshield and some small rust flakes on the inside of one of the chassis crossmembers.

I'd love to find one that clean!

We just had a bunch of rain in Ca and Ive got a leak right where the blue trucks drivers side floor holes are. by fuse box on a 87'. I have like no rust and looked for the leak, removed cowl, gutter trim and windshield trim, no holes or rust. Looks like it maybe a seam between body parts? One problem with the vinyl flooring is the water cant dry out and you dont know its wet...had to strip interior and remove to dry out the padding attached under the vinyl. By the looks of your trucks this maybe a toyota truck problem in design or manufacture...If you ever get a chance, cut into the area of the where the A pillar meets the cowling and under the fender. I used your last rusty truck video to try and get a look at the area/seams under the fender, would like a better look. That truck had rust in same area....

I noticed that the first gen's cowl area isn't a accessible as the 2nd gen's. Toyota had the right idea of making the cowl cover removable instead of all one piece.

Maybe consider looking for for another donor cab, both of these would need al lot of work to be safe.

I found a company that sells replacement floor panels, so that will be an upcoming episode!

We do indeed have a different kind of dirt here in Oklahoma from what you see in your part of the country. It's similar to some of the southwestern states. The orange tint (known as red dirt) comes from the high iron content. People think of prairies when they think of Oklahoma, but we actually have some very nice valleys and structures in the western part of the state like what you'd find in Utah or Arizona. New subscriber here enjoying your content.

Thanks for that info... That helps me understand why the grime on the frame is so difficult to remove. I can't find a solution to remove it all yet.
