  • Today I completely gut the interior of the Oklahoma 1980 Toyota Pickup Long bed. Then I discover that it actually has the optional 5-speed manual transmission and the engine might not be a total loss. Last, I roll it outside for a much needed bath with the pressure washer.

    Might need a hot pressure washer for that undercarriage 😮

    • @6thGearGarage
      @6thGearGarage  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah, mine didn't put a dent in that gunk. When I get the cab off, I'll spray it down with some degreaser and try again.

  • @muchristian
    @muchristian ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Mine had so much gunk on it that I had to do the pressure washer several times with oven cleaner and still had to come back with a pass of wire brush. On the upside, you likely won't find any rust under that cake!
    Really appreciate this video as I got my truck disassembled and I need it to see how to put it back together. Looking forward to some of the parts you post up for sale also.

      Good point on the gunk protecting the metal underneath... that steel case W50 should look great!

    I can confirm this mirror does work for your pickup, I have the same one on my 82

      It was the small plastic lens that I wasn't sure about. I didn't see a part number on it. Do you know if they're still available? I'll stop by the dealership the next time I'm in town and check.

      @@6thGearGarage I don’t know what part number it is but those mirrors I sent do come with the plastic piece and it does fit the oem mirror.

    I had a 94 Toyota Single Cab Shortbed. No rust because it was an Arizona truck but it had a buncha gunk under it like that white Toyota. Would have been a great build but I didn’t have any money and it needed an engine and pretty much all new wiring

    • @6thGearGarage

      That gunk must be a southern thing... I've never seen it on any of the 9 Ohio trucks I've owned.

  • @acetech9237

    Great videos man. I have a 1985 Toyota pickup and it's actually very solid. Interior is mint. The bed is rusted on select spots. I need some bed side section to cover up some holes. Would you sell some of the scrap sides?

    • @6thGearGarage
      @6thGearGarage  ปีที่แล้ว

      The body lines of this bed are different from the 84 to 88 trucks. However, you can use door skins from an 84-88 to repair the bed sides. Are you in Ohio? I have a pair of doors I'd sell cheap.

    Rust, equals part out & then to the junk yard!

  • @acetech9237
    @acetech9237 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    If you have a point of contact I'll send you photos of my bed. There's not huge section just like 6"x 6" spots on either side. The tailgates are readily available aftermarket. Mine is so rusted it's not worth saving.

    the air conditioning on the Oklahoma is an aftermarket system, likely installed at a aftermarket up fitter after the truck was sold, I actually have the hard to find aftermarket 22r/20r sanden sd508 compressor bracket that was paired with those aftermarket a/c systems. also with the transmissions the w55 is a more stout transmission than the w50, I would go with the w55 transmission.

    • @6thGearGarage
      @6thGearGarage  ปีที่แล้ว

      I need to crack open the W55 and take a look. It's super sloppy at 300k+ miles and I never got to drive the truck to see if it shifts smooth. That will make for a good future video. I decided I'm not going to run AC in the truck, seems like more trouble than it's worth when it's not a daily driver. Maybe if I lived further south.

    • @retro_88yota
      @retro_88yota ปีที่แล้ว

      @@6thGearGarage a/c is actually stupid easy to install on these old trucks. You have the hardest to find part, the evap box but if it's not a daily I can understand forgoing it. The w55s are stout. I had one with 350k on it, it still shifted smoothly and with the exception of a bad input shaft bearing it still worked great.

    My 80s L43 transmission looked exactly like that. Could not get the gunk off.

      I'm gonna have to let this one soak in some kind of nasty mix of simple green, gas and parts cleaner I think

    Parts for your store...the spare tire tools, hook tool in cab and bed...is that the oem tool bag in the bed? Was wondering if we'd hear from you, being in Ohio with no air to breath, water to drink....

    • @6thGearGarage
      @6thGearGarage  ปีที่แล้ว

      All good here, I live up by Sandusky, but the situation in East Palestine is a huge mess! I'm slowly going to be adding these things to my store, but I have boxes of 84-88 parts to go through first. I did photograph a hook tool this week and I'll be adding that to the store soon. More to come when I get a chance!

    12:16 I'm really unsure if that bit was sarcasm or not.
    It looks like holes in the chasis to me.
    But also there's no road salt used in my country so what we consider rust and something to walk away from is different from Ohio.

    • @6thGearGarage
      @6thGearGarage  ปีที่แล้ว

      There are some holes that were put there by the factory, but no holes from rust. Plenty of light surface rust though, which I look forward to showing how to refinish in a future video :)

      @@6thGearGarage Yes me too, they are reasonably affordable i think... but to develop stuff for one to print, takes some learning curve i guess. 😁 But i think many 3d models of things are being shared online😁
