A quick note about the Saving system. The Save & Exit option was in KCD1 almost from the beginning, people were complaining that they cannot leave the PC before getting their hands on Saviour Schnaps so they added the option in one of the first big patches, but at that point reviewers completed the game so I can see why you missed that. HOWEVER, that option doesn't work the way you indicated in this video. It WILL save the game and allow you to load to that point when you start the game up BUT the savegame will be rendered unusable by loading it. It's there as a temporary save point so you can leave your house or go to sleep if needed but won't allow you to substitude normal saving. If you load S&E save and die, you will return to your last Saviour Schnaps save (or at least that's how I remember it being implemented in the first game, not sure if they changed it for KCD2).
02:52 "KCD2 is the sequel that says I'm going to be the best version of me I can be, for those who love me" And for that alone I would buy it and give it a try

On the flip side, I've been checking notifications almost every day. Even considered making a Mastodon account to tag Shillup and talk (light hearted) shit about the content drought. I may have a problem.
Started the first KCD about 5 days ago (didn't connect with it at launch because too many issues with bugs and performance) and I am IN LOVE. Can't wait for KCD2 now.
I got it free on Epic recently and can’t wait to play it! Though I’m currently in the middle of Horizon Forbidden West and not starting a new game until I’ve finished it lol though Spider man 2 might be the exception
Exact same here. Nearly missed out on a classic due to a poor release. Enjoying it so much I’m a day 1 purchase for the sequel, and will go back and finish the original after that. Now in a race to go as far as I can before launch.
@@GolfWhisky Exact same position here - I've been playing for about a week, but how far I get before KCD2 is dependent on play time since I'm just not capable of rushing this game. It's so addictive I wake up early to squeeze in a few hours before work each day.
The problem with kcd 1 that I had after playing it is quests makers kept bugging out. Lack of polish and the combat. If they fix these in kcd 2 this will prob be my GOTY
I think they have very much learnt their lesson from the first launch. The CrowbCat video alone was devastating. There was like 50000 comments just laughing at them and I remember in the comments they said “we are very very sorry. Please be patient with us. Thank you to every one who bought the game” and people were like “LOLLLLL YOU ARE TRASH KYS”.
Pretty sure in their mind the “save a quit” thing is for when you have to go but there isn’t a bed near you or you have no snaps. Fallout 4 has the same thing with survival mode. Just to prevent getting caught in the middle of something when life calls
In Fallout 4 survival it is an exit save, so when you boot the game back up from that save point it deletes that save immediately after. So if you then die you can't go back to the exit save, you have to go back to your last proper save.
For that reason it works, but its far better in say, a game on a mobile console like the GBA back in the day, unless it erases the save after you load it, they should just let you have that 1 quick save slot without the quiting hassle
Go play the first one and find out 😂😂 yeah loads of bugs but if you hate the first game you hate the 2nd game according to those that played the 2nd kingdom come deliverance

The save and quit system is normaly used for when you're in the middle of something and you need to stop playing to go do other stuff - It stops you from having to go find a save point and lets you pick it back up when you come back. It is not meant as a "save function"
Yeah the concept makes sense but it can easily be abused like this. I've seen games where they delete your exit save when you load it but that can become really bad if the game crashes and there was a long time ago you mad the last hard save.
I cannot express to you, just how hard you've just sold me on this series. These titles have looked interesting from afar, but it's never been enough for me to seek out more information on them. After your breakdown of the game systems and interpersonal relationships with NPCs, I foresee losing many hours to this game now!

Save & Exit was not there at launch though, I guess he didn't play some of the later patches. KCD 1 is not too bad on normal mode but Hardcore also removes all quest related auto saves which means you can be required to restart entire quests like some of the battles.
Honestly that saving solution seems pretty decent. You get the way the devs wanted to make you commit to your decisions. But if you find yourself in a situation where you want to leave the game but don't have enough time to find a bed it still keeps your current progress saved so you can pick it back up later. I think they added this to the first game in an update too
@@superluismigueL100 What he said IS how it is right now in KCD 1 and I assume in KCD 2 too. The save gets deleted once you load it, so you can't rely on loading it up again after continuing to play. It's just so that you can immediately save & quit at any time in case of an emergency or the likes, but once you come back, you'll need to properly save your progress by either sleeping or drinking a schnapps. There should be a lot more checkpoints where the game autosaves during quests though, in the first one the game only saved at the start of a quest, but never had any checkpoints during a quest.
If you want to manually save, then make those savior schnapps. As many as you think you need, especially if you like to keep your f5 key taped down. I'm not asking for another game before the second is even out, but the thought of playing through the entirety of Henry's life a la Solid Snake / Ezio would make for one of the all time gaming greats
"Save and quit" is in KCD 1 as well. It's design is to make it safe to quit to your desktop at anytime. But it makes a "quit-save" that you can't load manually. The developers have stood behind this saving system, but have claimed to make Saviour Schnapps easier to get, and that they provide more autosaves during gameplay.
KC:D was a rare exception in that it is a huge open-world-singleplayer RPG that I played completely through multiple times without any mods and even without changing many of my decisions. My first Henry made 90% of the same choices my third Henry made and still, I loved every second of my second and third play-through (the first one was a mess... I started playing day 1 and this game was very much broken at this point). KC:D 2 has every chance to be my game of the year 2025 and one of the very few titles I play again and again over the coming years.
Surprisingly positive review from Skill Up! My gosh, Im so jealous, cant wait to spend more time with Henry. Just finished my KCD1 hardcore playthrough and Im aching for more. :)
@@Dark.SyndicateNot really. As others have pointed out it's not a quick save function. It's just for saving progress when you need to leave the game due to real life.
Naysayers gonna naysay but the combat in the original is not bad, it is *intentionally* "clunky" in the beginning to reflect how unprepared Henry is, the speed of movement and responsiveness is tied to your stats which, to be fair, can be a steep learning curve at the start but, it also makes pretty easy to tell by their own words when someone gave up early...
@DoomsdayMayBeOkay Lol it's nothing to do with being difficult, it's just broken. You can just run behind 20 people and stab them and they all just stand about. It just doesn't work I'm large battles That said, overall I really like the combat, but you can't pretend it's perfect.
Watched a couple of other YT's playing the game and they've been completely caught up in content that is not part of any mission, structure or quest. The depth here is astonishing with systems that are amazing in their complexity just running in the background. This game is "role playing" in the purest form where just about every action has consequences.
Sending out review codes a month before release and letting content creators do previews smells like pure confidence. Loved the first KCD, cant wait to play this
My most anticipated game this year. Picked up the first one on sale a couple years back when I got my Xbox and became obsessed with it. Warhorse studios, take my money!
I am so excited! This looks exactly how i wanted it to. On the save system: Broadly, If you want to connect with anything in life, you have to take a step towards it and experience it on its terms. Kingdom Come wants you to really engage with its systems and immerse yourself in its world. And by that, demands your attention and patience. It creates a tension, that makes you think about what you're doing, because the consequences can be unappealing and confronting. Most games lack that. They let you reload, until you get your desired outcome. There's just no meaning in that... Also, i don't think the argument of "not having a lot of time, so loosing it makes the game frustrating" is valid. There's definitly a point to be made about Kingdom Come 1 crashing and bugging, which just isn't fair. But otherwise, It's your fault, if you make ill-considered decisions and loose a bunch of time. If you don't like that, it might not be your type of experience.
Nah I'll just mod it out like the first game. Open world games will never be problem free so they can take their obnoxious save system where the sun doesn't shine.
The save and quit doesn’t work like you think it does. They added it to KCD1 as well. When you save and quit you can load back into that save but only once. So once you load back in that save is gone.
I played the 1st one 4 years ago & couldn't get on with the combat, so I put it straight down!! I tried again 3 months ago ignored playing combat & played as a thief rogue and had a completely different experience! Thoroughly enjoyed it & got used to the fighting 200+ hours in. Can't wait to play the new one
In KCD1 the save to quit option deletes the save once you load back into the game. It's created to make the experience more convenience (like making a pause whenever you want to) and not to make saving more inconvenient. I asssume it's the same in KCD2 and if not that's a weird change or random bug.
Usually (and I believe in the first game, because it does have a save & quit feature), exit saves are deleted on resuming the game. Might be different here though.
Don't think they are deleted they just overwrite when you save and quit. They are just not accessible to load from whilst in game. I have force quit in kcd1 so bypassed creating a new save on exit and then been able to load the earlier save from the previous save and quit at the menu screen.
sold me the game before 1:30... I love game when I forgot what I was doing because I was distracted 10 times (and I loved KCD 1). This is why I spent so many hour on skyrim...
It's gonna be really tough for any other game to beat this in 2025. Generational RPG.

By the way Save and Quit is in KCD1 too. It was not there originally but it was added in patches later on for the exact reasons mentioned in the video.
BASICALLY. ITS BECAUSE DEVON SAID THAT DURING DEVELOPMENT OF KC1, THEY WERE IN TURMOIL WITH A FEW LEADS AND IT ACTUALLY TURNED OUT BETTER THAN THEY THOUGHT, BUT HAD TO SHELVE IT TO WORK ON RASTERIZATION WHICH WAS LAGGING BEHIND EVERYTHING ELSE BEFORE RELEASE. THIS TIME AROUND THEYVE HAD ENOUGH TIME TO REALLY FLESH OUT THE GAME AND NOW HERE WE ARE 5 YEARS LATER! CHEERS!
Cool, I'm happy to hear that we're starting the year with a banger. I started the first game a month after launch and stopped after 40 hours because I read steam forums about some save-corrupting bug, still haven't returned to it lmao
I bounced off KCD pretty drastically when it came out, and once or twice since. However im very glad it was a success and to the hear the sequel seems to be good is great news
Savior Schnapps is a thing (it saves the game when you drink it) and you can just brew it at an alchemy table. It's super easy to make a handful and then you can save scum to your hearts desire.
The video isn't broken into chapters. Can someone tell me when the performance section begins? I want to see as little of this game as possible before playing it.
This isn't a full review but some first impressions. The full review is yet to come "in a few weeks". However, he mentions he has no performance problems on his PC (80-100 FPS) and is getting 30-45 on steam deck, depending on settings. This was in no way a real performance review though.
I really think that the save system in this game is great. It puts weight into your decision and prevents you from save scumming every part of the game. The game sometimes crashes as true with the first one, but if you are not playing on hardcore you usually saved automatically in some cutscene not long ago. Also I experienced only 2 game breaking bugs and one crash in my 200+ hours with the first one.
I've already heard other people doing the review on this game and I already know that I want to play this. But I'm going to watch this video as well. It doesn't hurt to listen to other opinions as well😊
The steam deck confirmations make this an easy choice over my ps5, I'll get that version later. The ability to play before work in the wee hours of the morning has saved my gaming life.
Replaying KCD1 because i only played the main story when the game came out. Playing the whole game plus the dlc. Having a blast, glad I came back for a second time

I regularly connect my steam deck to my TV and literally play it as I played Nintendo switch. I have Xbox controller connected to my steam deck for my couch sessions. So fact that it runs at 45 on low settings and locked 30 on medium is perfect. It also means it should be completely doable to create a Mac version of this. I remember from kickstarter back in 2014 or so that they were promising a Mac version back then. And Macs are capable of running great games nowadays. It’s a completely different world we live in nowadays.
I still remember loving your KCD 1 review. Got me interested in the game even if (at the time) you couldnt really recommend it due to its technical issues

@@Dark.SyndicateNot really. As others have pointed out it's not a quick save function. It's just for saving progress when you need to leave the game due to real life.
It was added post launch
I haven’t been so hyped for a game in years
Naysayers gonna naysay but the combat in the original is not bad, it is *intentionally* "clunky" in the beginning to reflect how unprepared Henry is, the speed of movement and responsiveness is tied to your stats which, to be fair, can be a steep learning curve at the start but, it also makes pretty easy to tell by their own words when someone gave up early...
It's good 1v1 or 2v1 but larger battles aren't good. Still love the game though
At least it's unique and not just weak and attack and strong attack.
@Monkeypole just like it would be in real life
@DoomsdayMayBeOkay Lol it's nothing to do with being difficult, it's just broken. You can just run behind 20 people and stab them and they all just stand about. It just doesn't work I'm large battles
That said, overall I really like the combat, but you can't pretend it's perfect.
@monkeypole its definitely not perfect never said that, and yes the AI gets confused on the large scale battles its a fact.
An RPG of this scale running that well on steam deck in 2025? Incredible!
Watched a couple of other YT's playing the game and they've been completely caught up in content that is not part of any mission, structure or quest. The depth here is astonishing with systems that are amazing in their complexity just running in the background. This game is "role playing" in the purest form where just about every action has consequences.
Game of the year without a doubt
In before everyone kills Skillup for not knowing save and exit was in the last game too.
The saving system is the same as KCD 1 and it's perfect as it is.
IT ATCUALLY SUCKS. I JUST USE SAVE ANYWHERE CHEATS. WORSE SAVE SYSTEM IN ANY GAME EVER. !
@@ihanak8814 No, it is not.
@@ihanak8814 Just find or rent a bed. Or find/buy/make the potions.
Not perfect at all.
It’s easier. Savior schnapps is even easier to come by. And there are more auto saves.
Save & Quit exists on KCD 1 as well
"Save and Quit" is in the first game and the save is deleted once you load it. I assume it's the same in KCD2.
"This games looks better than 90% of the games released even today."
HOW DID YOU LAND ON THAT EXACT PERCENTAGE? WAS IT CALCULATIONS OR JUST TIPPY TOEING?
We're so back boys!
I just started playing KCD 1 and so far I'm loving it. Only about 8 hours in but I can tell ill like it. Stoked to play KCD 2
I loved KCD, the fact that they've built on top of it, without bending for people who didn't like it, excited me so hard
Super Stoked to play this in a few weeks. KCD was already incredible, I'm excited to see where they take it.
My most anticipated game of 2025. Hands down
14:32 an impressive jug...
I missed his this week in video games from last week
This man, after a two-week break, goes and uploads a hands-on for one of my most hyped games of 2025! What a champ!
WHAT A CHANGE INDEED AFTER HIS TRANSITION HE'S BEEN ACTING WEIRD BUT NOW I FEEL LIKE HES FINALLY GETTING BACK INTO IT!
WE’RE SO BACK
What a great video! Thank you for always delivering such quality content.
KCD 2 looks like the best game ever made for someone like me.
I am so excited! This looks exactly how i wanted it to.
On the save system:
Broadly, If you want to connect with anything in life, you have to take a step towards it and experience it on its terms.
Can’t wait to play it!
KCD is the only game that gave me that classic morrowind/skyrim bethesda feel since they released, Im glad KCD2 is continuing that.
UR WELCOME BUD WEVE BEEN WORKING HARD
Crime system getting a big update is a good thing. In the first game you only had a temporary debuff to your stats after exiting jail.
Finally! The review I actually care about is here. *grabs popcorn*
Auto herbs pickup and No Wheight cap MODs will make KCD1 more accessible for those scare of the laborious aspects of the first game!
The video isn't broken into chapters.
Can someone tell me when the performance section begins? I want to see as little of this game as possible before playing it.
Find some performance video about it, there are very detailed ones.
This isn't a full review but some first impressions. The full review is yet to come "in a few weeks". However, he mentions he has no performance problems on his PC (80-100 FPS) and is getting 30-45 on steam deck, depending on settings. This was in no way a real performance review though.
Afaik, no video so far has shown performance in Kuttenberk - I am a bit wary, it may be like in KCD1 - Rattay vs. the rest
8:50 SPOILER alert C A U T I O N...............................................
I love these kind of slow paced exploration kind of games.
I really think that the save system in this game is great. It puts weight into your decision and prevents you from save scumming every part of the game. The game sometimes crashes as true with the first one, but if you are not playing on hardcore you usually saved automatically in some cutscene not long ago. Also I experienced only 2 game breaking bugs and one crash in my 200+ hours with the first one.
wb skillup and crew!! Cant wait for this one.
14:32
Sold, I'll be picking up a copy
Cheers
Been a while since I've been looking forward to a game this much.
Just plug it in my veins already. I can't wait.
“Your curiosity is always handsomely rewarded”
Picks up cabbage.
I’m so excited for this game. I never played the first game but Kenshi is my all time favorite game and I’m hearing a lot of overlap in mechanics.
Replaying KCD1 because i only played the main story when the game came out. Playing the whole game plus the dlc. Having a blast, glad I came back for a second time
7:43 There's a save and quit option in the first game too, but after you load that save, it is deleted.
Great news. I'm really looking forward to this one. Hype!
I always feel like the game is an upgraded Oblivion.
are you drunk?
@@SYLRMHA I have fond feelings of my Oblivion days. The world exploration, skill and talent leveling, the character interaction. Mod in some twitch based combat and graphics overhauls... It gets close and that is a good thing to me.
Gold Edition officially preordered. Can't friggen wait!
I still remember loving your KCD 1 review. Got me interested in the game even if (at the time) you couldnt really recommend it due to its technical issues
Nothing I love hearing more from a game's sequel than "Doubling down"
Man, I’m so excited! I bought the first game due to this games trailer and comments on how good the first one is.
I’m not at all far given the scope, but it’s been an absolute blast! Tbh the thing I’m most excited for is to make Henry literate lol.
Played KCD1 a couple of months ago and it was great, looking forward to 2
