    Not sure if you'll see this, Jackie, but a good rule of thumb is that we sense less sweetness in frozen/very cold things than when they're warm or room temp, so you need to make ice cream/other frozen bases just a little sweeter than to taste before you freeze them. A pinch of salt helps enhance sweetness too!

    Food science fact: Sweetness is perceived in inverse relation to temperature. In other words, hot or room temperature drinks are sweeter than cold drinks. To get your cold drinks (shaved ice) to the same sweetness you have to add more sugar. That's also why soda has so much sugar in it.

      Dark chocolate is cacao mixed with a small amount of sugar
      similarly bittersweet chocolate has a slightly higher sugar content but not much more.

    "Lychee" is pronounced "Lai-chi" in Japan. :) And the shaved ice maker from Animal crossing is the most traditional/antique kaki-gori maker that emerged around the showa era.
    Edit: BTW the easiest way to get those ice cube from the mold is to run them upside down under running water for couple of seconds and the ice will pop put.

They actually added cream to it to make it creamy but unfortunately this place went out of business so I'll never be able to taste it again. It was called oh mighty ices. And it was very different from Rita's. Rita's is a lot more watery but the oh mighty ices brand was a lot more creamy. They also came in fruity flavors like mango and that was also very good.

    • @BlahkieUnicornz
      @BlahkieUnicornz 3 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      Adding the flavorant after is usually so that if youre making multiple flavors it's easier to just pour on top rather than switch out the ice and grind them for each person or to make it faster and save time but if it's going to be the same flavor for every one and you dont mind waiting however many hours or if you'll keep it in bulk adding it to the water and freezing it is better since it's going to be more evenly distributed through the ice rather than pooled at the bottom and wont melt the super thin and fluffy ice.
