Good to meet you today, nice to put a face to a vlogger 👍 My Dad was a speedway rider and from when I was very young, about 8, he made me wear all the gear and earplugs, now 60 biking years later (only missed 12 months in that time), having never ridden without ear protection, my hearing is still excellent, I think the damage was done in the 70's & 80's when helmets offered very little protection from wind noise and hardly anybody wore earplugs. As we spoke about today, small bikes make much more sense if you do lots of miles, just nice to have one big bike for when you want a 'blast'. Fav memory food, Birds blancmange & Jelly made in layers, so sweet !! 😄
Don't know if you Know, But completely motorbikes group went into administration today, that's old Skellerns Worcester, 3 thunder roads, old woods of Abergele and 7 others, apparently, they had a bad summer and banks withdrew support, so now gone, but some are being offered for sale as going concerns (probably just the profitable ones), getting a bit dire for bike shops at the mo ☹, and when visiting Kiddy to the SVR and footplate trains, last week, I popped into Bewdley and got the last 4 pieces of bread pudding they had, lovely 🙂👍
Sad news about the Food Stop, I go there a fair bit too, so I guess we have to find a new place to meet. The Danery pub, just down the road are very keen to encourage bikers to go there. wow ! not many there that day, no wonder they are closing it.
I have moderate tinnitus. I find it's the wind noise riding a bike that is the worst problem, not the engine. I wear a Schuberth helmet, which cuts out some of the noise, but I also wear earplugs. Having tried out one or two types, including the custom fitted, I find that the humble cotton wool ball works as well as anything. Take a single 1" cotton wool ball (you can buy a bag of them from Boots or similar), tear it in half and push one half gently into each ear. They are comfortable and very effective, and cheap. When they get a bit mucky just dispose and use a new ball.
I will be very sorry to see this place close, I will certainly miss it. Many thanks for your filming of the Biker Cafe (Food Stop Cafe) , I would like to make a suggestion, it would be wonderful if you could film the inside with it's various features; seating, view from the front window, pictures that hang inside, notice board and even the rack of Magazines...because once it's gone....it gone and it would be great to look back on it with fond memories and a lot of us, I am sure will.
I worked in an EMS call center. Early headsets had no noise canceling tech. Without exaggeration I took thousands of high volume calls for service. At the same time I did target shooting as well as rode my motorcycles. Tinnitus has been an issue for decades. I don't think earplugs make it worse but I often become more aware after a ride with my most effective earplugs. Regarding childhood food fav's.....homemade chocolate cream pie or pumpkin pie.
Sorry to hear the Food Stop is closing. The Danery Pub looks like a cool place to bike. Since I'm in the US I use Google maps to look up all these place you mention. It's not quite like I'm there but it's the next best thing and fun to browse around the areas.
Hi David , I am 62 riding since I was an egg 45 years have bad tinnitus ( was subject to loud bangs here in N.I.) when I was young. I find the ear plugs help when riding and settle the Tinnitus I can hear better with my Cardo also as my ear doesnt crackle . Regards Robert
I have Tinnitus and wouldn't ride without ear plugs, and I ride between 17k and 20k miles per year. My experience with ear plugs and Tinnitus is that they cut out the harmful high pitched sounds which is the frequency range that cause the damage to your hearing. Tinnitus is a constant high pitched ringing in the ears which is why when the ear plugs have cut out all the external high pitched sound your hearing is left with the low pitched bass sounds ,which is why you hear the low exhaust note that you don't without plugs. Now when wearing ear plugs you're left with low external sounds and the high pitch Tinnitus this makes the Tinntus sound worse but really it isn't it's unmasked just replacing the external high pitched sounds that would make your Tinnitus worse. I use the cheap Oxford foam ones which I find great for riding I wash and reuse and reuse them, though washing them does reduce there effectiveness after some ten washes.Recently I was in a Screwfix shop and bought some green coloured Uvex foam plugs which I found stopped almost all sound when riding but I was left with my Tinnitus high frequency sound,I concluded the Uvex ones might be better for long motorway journeys where hearing is less important than keen eyesight observation. Disclaimer:- I'm no expert or professional in any way shape or form,I'm just relaying my experience with Tinnitus, motorcycling and earplugs. My tinnitus was not caused motorcycling but by percussion drilling in confines of coal mining tunneling work. Enjoying the channel BTW,thanks

Thanks Philip , as a bike venue longer than 30 actually my friend was telling me how he used to lean his cafe racer against the wall in the mid 60's ! ...Appreciate you watching.
I won't miss the lousy parking area at the Food Stop and to be honest, the breakfast at Tony's cafe (opposite side of the road) is better. The Danery pub is also going to start doing breakfasts in the very near future. Both the Danery and Tony's have far superior parking..
I have some custom fit guards plugs. Find them very comfortable, They cut out wind noise without drowning out other noises like the bike engine or traffic. Wouldn’t ride without plugs now. Love angel delight, got my kids to try it recently they turned their noses up… kids these days… lol 😂
Earplugs shouldn’t make tinnitus worse. Worth trying some different ones to try them out. Earplugs will help to preserve your hearing and reduce risk of long term damage/tinnitus
Hi David. Good thought provoking vid as usual. I have had tinnitus for over 20 years and my doctor once said that it was probably from all the loud equipment i use to operate in my career of 30 years as a Fireman. It was a long time before health and safety got involved. Anyway i will not ride 1 inch without earplugs and as usual in life is you get what you pay for. Since they first come out i have religiously used the The Alpine ones that most of the GP & Superbike racers use. They are colour coded and i swear by the red ones and you get a tool to insert them. They have never affected my tinnitus one way or the other. I always get childhood memories for all the wrong reasons and mine is sprouts. All because my vile mother threw me all round the kitchen when i refused to eat them LOL A quick cure for this memory is get the Tiger out and ride til my mind is empty. For all the great subjects you keep coming up with and the great entertainment i have left something towards a set of Alpine's lol
@dalechamberlain7767 Thanks so much Dale ,I can tell you I really appreciate your kind words as recent events on YT have brought me to the edge of quiting . I think the ear plugs you mention might me the ones my mate Malc has that I mentioned on the video ...I think I will get some . I also hated sprouts but now love them ! ... I really appreciate the comment...needed some positivity just now 👍
I think the smaller capacity bikes will become more popular as the biker demographic gets older and prices continue to rise, especiall with the big ADV bikes now over 20k There's also the Quatt farm shop and cafe at 12:12 in your vid Dave though as it's at the end of a long straight on a NSL going into a 40 it could end up being another accident black spot on that road. I've tried loads of ear plugs over the years from the tube foam type, shaped foam ones, some silicone custom fitted ones through to the mushroom type. The silicone ones were good for keeping the sound out but put pressure on the fleshy bits of my ears as they then pressed against the speakers I have in my helmet for my intercom so if you go down that route make sure they're comfortable with your helmet on before you buy. The foam ones tend to come out as I ride as do the mushroom ones I've tried previously (maybe due to the shape of my ears) but currently I'm using Alpine Motosafe which are the silicone mushroom type but they have a handy little insertion tool you slip over the "stem" of the mushroom which really help get them in the correct position. Oh and I remember school custard, but not in a good way 🤣
Sad to hear the cafe is closing for good. I recall reading somewhere that there has been a cafe on that site for 70 years. The loss of it will see not only a cafe going but a meeting place for bikers and the loss of the social benefit it bought to so many.

Here's a thing with the 400 cc or there abouts range of bixe. You have the best of both worlds but on a smaller scale. Again the reality is the bigger the bike the better but where and how often can you use the power of a large road bike? Or how often will you embark on an adventure requiring the bigger bike of that ilk?
Yes that makes sense Simon ...so many reasons large bikes are making less sense these days .If Triumph get the Tiger 400 right that also will be a major contender.
I used go to the cafe as a child on our holidays to wales we would stop there , I would of been about 6 or 7 I'm now 57 and go there still on my motorcycle so it's been there a while
I asked them at the Food Stop Cafe yesterday. They've just had enough. The Danery will be having a cafe too. Got chucked out of the FSC at half two yesterday with a member of staff saying "we've got to close right now".

I use Boots BioEars Silicone earplugs; £5. For that you get 3 pairs of re-usable earplugs which mold to your ear when inserted creating an effective seal. They are very effective at cutting down general motorcycle engine and wind noise while still allowing the use of a Cardo in-helmet speaker system. Additionally I don’t feel over isolated from my general surroundings while wearing them. I’ve also tried various cheap foam plugs but they are nowhere near as effective in my experience. Hope this helps.
