Sounds like a great project. I had the same idea but due to my size, I had to go with a Suburban. I'm 6'5" and wanted to be able to sleep inside. I got a 97 suburban with a 6" lift and only 130k miles for only $3500. Worked out perfect. Full sized emory foam mattress, radios, roof rack, and winch all installed after. -W0DLP

I used to own one almost exactly like this: '87 body, engine, manual transmission and rear axle on '86 body and front axle. Did the rear chevy spring conversion, crossover steering conversion. Great offroad vehicle. Terrible on highways. I sold it 15 years ago... and I still regret the decision.

To me, the perfect bug out vehicle is a 2015-2017 Jeep Rubicon Unlimited V6, with 3.5" lift and 35" tires, a roof tent and loads of equipment. That's what I'm buying. I'm going to remove the rear seats so that I can have a full-length bed inside the car.

I've had my 87 4runner for a long time. Went wheelin with it for years. Currently I'm getting ready to get it painted back to original colors and demodding it. Putting factory bumper back on the front. New carpet kit , seats reupholstered and replacing all the lights and exterior locks.

I have 88 that is set up very similar to your even the rear drawers, swing out tire carrier, folding table on swing out. Im on Dana 44 front axle w chevy leaf springs. lots of flex.

Love 4 runners i always had jeep cherokees but the 4x4 with the 4 runner is a truer 4x4

I have another video that has the radio in it, pretty basic cheap uniden CB and a 2 meter yaesu. A lot of times I have a ft857 or ft991A with me also for cmp.

Blane if it's not up a steep hill it will do 70-80, really steep hills about 55 max third gear.
