The interior has a Mercedes-like quality that's really impressive at this price point. The exterior is not exactly elegant, but it's bold, it's quirky - it's a lot more interesting than the vanilla-designs of so many other brands. Then it has PHEV, HEV and mild-hybrid versions, both petrol and diesel, which is unheard of. And being a Kia it has that massive 7-year / 150.000km factory warranty. The South Koreans are on an absolute roll💪
But the side profile looks so dull. Compare this to the Citroen eC4. It’s just a load of misjudged design ideas thrown together. Even the interior is hideous.

It looks… confused. But I need to see it in “real life”. However, I like the colour: seems that many new cars now come with a lot of fancy shades of green, blue, orange and so on.
Always one of the first ones to do the review! Nice work! Lovely car i can't remember the last time I saw painted wheel arches in this class. ..but I hate that they always give us (Europeans) small versions and small models.. no telluride, palisade, only getting shorter sportage..wtf. Very nice design improvements from the global version. The the trim color in the front de-emphasizes the split upper and lower grill. The design appears much more harmonized in the Euro spec with the lower part of the upper grill in body color instead of chrome or satin-chrome. They also made the left and ride fins body colored where the fog lamps are housed.
Finally Matrix LED in a Kia. They’re always a bit late with the „newest“ tech. But still… better late than never. Very interested to see HOW good it will work.

Thanks Thomas for the walk around of the new Sportage. Interesting design, however I am really getting tired of all the gloss black exterior trim and dark wheels. Would love to see machined aluminum wheels and flat black or body colour trim.
What happens with the ventilated seats? Is this a difference from the world vs european version or is it limited in kind of the gt-line? .... or is that the reason why we get the 3rd air climatic in the 2nd row...

Hyundai and KIA finally entered their "so ugly that it kind of works" design era. In 5 years or so, their cars will be really pretty. Remember this comment.
@@hockey1freak I think Lexus is one of the best on the market in terms of design, if not the best. They also entered this same era back in the 00s. I've no idea what BMW is doing. I was so excited when this was announced in the start of November and was aiming for purchasing this beauty. But then the GT-Line thing was announced for the European market and that killed it for me. When they bring the car here and if i don't have the ability to order the non GT version i will never buy the gimped EU version. It's simply mind boggling how they managed to kill all the lines that gave it the edgy and new era look, and make it shorter for reasons unknown.
Those Kia/Hyundai/Genesis folks aren't BS'ing around on price and features. The styling is too busy for me but it is innovative. They'll change it again in 8 months I suppose. This car has the flat screen in the dashboard where it should on this class of car. Hey (Audi why is the A4 still using that ipad sticking up/out of the dash? ) Genesis got my attention on the GV70 (fully tricked out for less than 60k) they are on to something it seems.
Kia has the freedom to try bold new designs as they are not as stuck like other established manufacturers such as the Germans. People don't expect a KIA to look any particular way, from my experience and that lets them try all kinds of crazy things such as this one. This design in my opinion though, is not great as I have a very hard time finding anywhere to look and say YES This is THIS car! Like I would with many other vehicles. Long story short, Kia lacks definitive identity in their products which gives them freedom but does not produce highly memorable or distinguishable designs. They produce cars like a cell phone company, whatever sticks long enough to get you to your next upgrade.
