I am not sure if anyone explained the brake thing and I am a bit late here, but it is literally called creep groan (so your description was perfect). What is going on is the static coefficient of friction and the dynamic are different. The static friction coefficient along with the force on the pads determines when something can brake free and start moving while the dynamic coefficient determines the braking force when the surface of the rotor is moving. At specific forces from your caliper, typically when creeping forward, you are hitting the point where it can brake free and move, but then the dynamic forces kick in which are higher and stop the movement. Then they brake free again, then they stop, and so on. It is called stick slip. The constant stopping and starting causes a vibration which sounds like a groan. This kind of thing is often exacerbated by low temps or humidity as they affect the friction coefficients of the pads which can then make creep groan worse. Some cars also exhibit this phenomenon near the end of a regular braking stop and we often call that graunch.
There's essentially two solutions, change the pad material or try to dampen the vibration. Of course a different pad material can cause other issues and dampening the vibration often leads to more weight and cost.

This is why I love Carwow. They review exotic cars that other couldn't get their hands on, do amazing drag races, and still they review cars that others can actually afford. Matt's hella fun, he reviews spot-on, no bias and stuff. If he got something to say bad about that car then he says it. Probably one of the best car channel here in TH-cam.

I've had mine (HEV 3) for a couple of months now and done just over 1200mls, mainly on motorway. The consumption shows a healthy 50-55mpg on the motorway and around 40-42mpg in town (I'm not ma very fast driver, I enjoy the car very much so don't rush around often and always drive in Eco mode). It is pretty fast when I put my foot down if I need to get out of trouble, however the revving drives me mad, I honestly thought that there might be something wrong with the gearbox but now seeing your review I realise it's something I have to live with. Doesn't happen very often that I notice it, it's just something I could do without. Other than that, I am exceptionally pleased that I went for this Kia after researching different makes for around 6 months - Very luxurious inside, lots of space front and back, great look with the large screens, easy to use and manouvre. The mid range is perfect if you're after something a bit extra but without the hefty price tag.

8:17 The brake pads and rotors are glazed. This causes the groaning noise because the car is trying to move against the brakes. Seen this happen in almost all cars when holding with the brakes on a downgrade and the pressure on the brakes is released slightly. But I thought most clutchless cars overcame this problem these days because they don't power the wheels to move unless the brake is released completely. You can't help it on a downgrade though.

KIA has really upped their game over the past few years. I remember my dad had a 2006 Sportage back in the day and seeing how much it has changed over the year is insane. They’re such good cars when you take care of them. We had ours for 10 years? And it was still in excellent shape when we ended up selling it. And the way they look now, inside and out, im actually considering buying one myself when i get the money together. This Sportage is beautiful.

Personally, the new designs from Hyundai/Kia have started to grow on me. Whenever the K5 first came out to replace the Optima, I was quite upset because I liked the Optima, and really didn’t like the look of the K5, but it slowly grew on me and now I am comparing it with the new Soul whenever I do decide to trade in my 13 Kia Soul for a new car. I will most likely go for a new Kia or Hyundai, as the new Toyotas and Hondas are out of my price range, plus, you can’t beat Kia’s warranty.
I do prefer the look of the new Sportage (we pronounce it here in the states as sport-AGE, but I think you pronounce it very well, better than us Americans.) the outgoing Kia Sportage design was really kind of… meh… to me. It just seemed too vanilla, too boring. I do have to prefer the new Sportage to the old one.

There is a difference between what a car is allowed to tow and what is wise to tow. Generally speaking a maximum of 75% of the vehicle weight is advised. As such this KIA might be a better tow car than something else with a lower curb weight but a higher allowed towing capacity.

I'm a private hire driver and the company car I've been given is a 22 plate sportage. GT line spec with 1.6 turbo petrol, awd and auto box. Nice to drive although the auto box is so so at times. Comfortable even for riding on 19" wheels. It's only got a little over 5k miles on it, but not the best on fuel. 35mpg at most which is less than the book figure. The engine only puts out around 150hp and a higher torque figure, but is quick for type of car. I wouldn't mind a sportage, but the car I got given prior was a 22 plate sorento which was the self charge hybrid, auto box, awd, basically over 50k worth of car. That thing was so lovely to drive and despite having 226hp and a lot higher torque figure it was very quick for a tank of a thing being a 7 seater. Being hybrid it did 40 plus mpg.. Oddly enough I assume it has the same 7 speed auto used in the sportage, but it felt better in the sorento than the sportage. Sorento better than sportage. One thing I like about the new kias is the fact they have heated steering wheels but also a cold mode on the heated seats.

Makes me wonder if Kia are selling the LWB version in Europe. I think the simple hooks and the USBc charging points high up on the back of the front seats are such simple but clever ideas - all cars should copy them.

It drives well too and AWD is available on most versions. I finally decided on the GT line-S AWD petrol mild hybrid and am very much looking forward to delivery. It comes in under the all important £40k too. The AWD really requires All Weather tyres to make the most of it. Why are U.K. cars only sold with summer tyres? Nonsense really. No real downside the rest of the year except that they tend to become noisy as they wear, and being unidirectional you can't switch them to the other side to even out the wear. I was a very lucky git for many years having the benefit of driving company cars such as BMW 3 Series, 5 Series, E Class Mercedes, Audi A6's etc. However in January the benefit in kind tax rate changed massively making it very expensive to have a company car. With a car allowance and mileage expenses instead as an option I decided to opt out and purchase my own car. I researched and obviously could not afford to drive what I was driving, second hand car market was ridiculous, so I opted to buy a new Kia Sportage. I have a white K4 model, diesel, with the beige leather interior. I have it since the 1st of March 2023 and have 21,000 km's on it so far. I am very happy with it. The entertainment system is actually better than the E Class Mercedes which I loved, Navigation system is so good that I don't even bother using google maps anymore. The Navigation system is the best in any car I have ever driven before and so easy to use. It has heated seats, heated steering wheel and even cooling seats for very warm days. It is very comfortable on long journeys and overall a great car. I use it as a company car and a family car. With a wife, 2 boys and a cocker spaniel we can all fit in comfortably, plenty of boot space for weekends away etc. I can't fault it at all, so far so good.

This car is beyond brilliant. Yes, it’s £37k for a Kia. But compared to German equivalents everything is so complete. And better built. I regret my Mercedes!

I honestly think the front end of both this and the Hyundai Tucson look AMAZING. Still not interested in owning either of them though...

Good review and I really like this car. I quite liked the previous model too. The front is not too bad either. I love the large curved screen on the dash. I nearly bought a Kia, a few years back, but settled for the Peugeot 3008 instead. I'm very happy with that car, but Kia continue to impress.

But the Peugeot does not have 7 year warranty. Part of the reason I bought Sportage.

@@barryharding1842 I didn’t consider that. I mostly made my choice on styling and that it got European car of the year in 2017. I still might buy a Kia though. I was keen on the Sorrento, but I like the previous version more than the current one. I like the new sportage though.

@@don_ink It's very good. I hardly ever have to fill it. Still very happy with the 3008.

Absolutely love the look of this. It manages to be interesting and fresh and quirky in a very good way. Only the white colour doesn't do it any justice in my opinion. Their olive green option is the best one for the new Sportage ;)

I think the white is the most flattering and the green looks the worst - it's funny how difference of opinion and individual taste affects perception!
