It does downshift quickly and smoothly, especially in Sport mode. - The SX is well worth the extra $2.5k over the top of the basic S. The multimedia system in the S looks grainy and cheap, and the touchscreen that replaces it in the SX blows it into the weeds, plus the interior trim is much nicer. The steering is too light, but it noses in well, grips nicely, and hauls its heft around corners with a fair amount of control and precision. - The one thing I really dislike in the S and SX (as well as the SX+) is the instrument readout. Just a numerical readout of your revs and speed - it looks cheap and dated, and is not as user-friendly as a dial and needle either. - As Paul mentions, the ride is so well controlled, and the visibility is great barring the A-pillar. It's just an easy, easy car to drive. - The boot is huuuuuge for a mid-size SUV.

I purchased the 2022 Sportage 2.0L Turbo Diesel AWD and I'm extremely happy with it...a real pleasure to drive and ticks all the practicality boxes including a decent towing capacity (1900kg braked) .
Just got our GT-line 1.6T and I have to say that it is really impressive. As far as the DSG goes, we are used to driving VW with DSG’s and I do not understand his comments about the gearbox we find it copes with most driving without an issue. I have only got it to be indecisive once and that was by when turn at an intersection I floored it and it took the DSG a couple a second to get into the right gear. When I took that same corner and just accelerated normally the change was seamless and instantaneous. Like every DSG I have driven, if it needs to change down multiple gears, like go from 5th to 2nd, it does take longer that an automatic however normal changes are so smooth that unless you look at the tachometer or shift indicator you will not know that it has happened. We originally ordered the diesel however when the dealer informed us that delivery would be Q4 2022 and that they had a Red 1.6T due late Jan we decided we would go with that on basis that it was subject to a test drive. We found it not quite a punchy as the diesel but still quite adequate for our needs. It was quieter which only highlighted the only issue we have found even more and that is tyre noise. We live in the country so most of the roads are crushed rock which generally create tyre noise with most tyres. Will be interesting to see how noisy they are on bitumen. BTW the tyres are Hankook which based on reviews are rated as quiet. They can come with Nexen which are supposed to be. quite noisy.
Thanks for the feedback mate . I ordered the 1.6 T myself and was worried about the gearbox mentioned by all the reviews. Happy to know that it's not an issue
I'm currently deciding between Rav4 Hybrid and the Sportage SX+ 1.6l DCT( Cant justify the extra $6k to go to GT). With your turning the corner gear change lag, would that delay have been eliminated if you had used the paddle shifters to drop a gear or two at the first sign of gearbox hesitation or would it still lag even with paddle shifters overriding the auto gear selection? I'm currently driving a 2015 Mazda 3 SP25 and find that 2 quick flicks of paddle shifters drop the gears quick enough that there's no obvious hesitation when I feel like driving it more aggressively and I can flick the paddles whilst in full auto mode ( don't have to move shift knob to M mode) and they over ride the auto selected gear temporarily and then reverts back to auto mode soon after. Does the Sportage paddles also override when in normal drive mode or do you need to select it before using paddles?
@@2540manu I picked mine up yesterday too! It arrived early, I was so excited! It's a magnificent car... So smooth on the road with plenty of grunt! So glad you're happy with yours too!
Was just waiting for this review, infact was about to ping you on twitter asking for this? Fantastically covered as always. Thanks Paul!! confused between petrol gt and diesel gt though considering I don't do much of driving (Max 8-10k per year)
@@CarExpertAus I'm in the same boat as Aman. Isn't the diesel a less-than-ideal option for short distance driving? In terms of not getting the engine up to proper operating temperature etc etc. Alternatively, is it worth waiting for the hybrid and will it address some of the petrol's shortcomings? As always, great review.
I'm in the same boat. Test drove the 1.6L Turbo Tucson, then test drove the 2L Turbo Diesel Sportage and the clutch in the TD is LOADS smoother and really gets the power down, I didn't hate that double clutch in the Tucson though, but if you have the extra $5K it's most definitely the option to take. I didn't, so have put a deposit down on the 1.6LT petrol.
I found a video which talks about the DPF (Diesel Particle Filter) which will not function properly with short urban driving so diesel is unfortunately not for moi 😔
Hyundai and kia’s rebrand (both in terms of branding but also in terms of style and car design) is absolutely fantastic. It’s made an enormous difference to the feel of the brand and the perceived quality of the cars. Love it.
was really looking forward to this one, you have done a great job as always Paul. I was expecting the 1.6L turbo to be good but its not the case it appears.
Hi Paul awesome reviews, just took the Sportage GT line Diesel for a test drive, very impressive with lots of poke not too sure about the 1.7 petrol some customers were saying it lacked power but we were very happy overall with the car - still comparing
Unfortunately, we do not have Diesel engine here in Saudi dealership. I bought petrol engine 1.6 turbo with DCT gearbox instead. Diesel seems the optimal option to buy!
Got a GT Line Diesel on order. Hope to get it on the 27th. Shame about the lack of steering wheel heater when the Tucson has it. Just a blank button on the Sportage!

Kia and Hyundai need to work with Google to get the Android Autos fullscreen integration, no settings are available yet to get fullscreen integration unfortunately, im constantly checking for when Kia/Hyundai add it to their infotainment system via an update. The 10.25" screen has been in use by Kia / Hyundai for a while now, sadly they still haven't added fullscreen AA! (short answer, Kia/Hyundai still haven't added fullscreen AA.)
They are jacket holders and the hooks are for bags as per Kia Korea launch video. Just bought one coming Dec. If you want one, need to hurry or long delay.

So happy to finally have this reviewed! Right now it's a toss up between this and the Sorento GT Line for me. I don't need the 3rd row but the looks alone makes me want to spend the extra cash and drive it with the 3rd row down
I’d lean towards the Sorrento if it was me. I don’t often recall thinking that I’d need less space. Imagine an IKEA run and having to leave things behind 😂
Thanks - an comprehensive and excellent review! I had an extended test drive in the diesel GT and could not fault the equipment level and engine/transmission. Well worth the extra $3K over the turbo petrol. GT diesel on order - Probable Feb/Mar 22 delivery.

We've just ordered a Gravity Grey GT Line Diesel. Originally looking at the 1.6T in the Sportage as well as the new Outlander. The Outlander looks great on the outside but the Sportage kicks it out of the school yard in just about every other way so, Sportage it is. Went for the diesel due to better availability and we were sitting on the fence anyway. In regard to the 'Sounds of Nature' - the SX and above have it as standard. You're reviewing what's in the USA the 2023 model, for the record. My husband and I just bought the 2022 and it's the generation previous to this model. We also bought an LX model (literally the only thing we could get at the time.) Appearance is of significantly less importance to me than performance and functionality, though my husband is fussier about appearance. However, it took him only a day or two to come around and he now agrees this was the perfect vehicle for us.
The desing is really cool. Especiallythe round and also not round front that is quite bullish. Woud love to see a video explaining the difference between the gearbox types (like the one explain the offraod stuff).
3:07 I see the rear indicators are now part of the light cluster, where they should be, instead of on the rear bumper.. So new Sportage owners will no longer have to endure angry honking when changing lanes ...
I am selling my 2016 Ford Kuga in diesel and have ordered the GT-line in the diesel. The salesman we spoke to was very honest about the car. He showed us the prices before we even looked at the car. He showed us the base model and took us out the back where they had the other models (that other people had ordered and already sold) and showed us them. He asked if we wanted petrol or diesel. At that point in time I said that I didn’t care either way so for the test drive we took the base model diesel. When we got back he asked us if we wanted to drive the petrol and I said not a chance. I knew what I wanted and just had to have it. After I put in the order they said the had the car I wanted in the Color I wanted but in petrol. I refused. I’ll wait for my diesel!

I have noticed a few reviewers comment on the gearbox been abit 'clunky' in regular drive modes when they 'punch it or at lower speeds' The average family driver will not notice this, but for nit picking enthusiast that do (myself included) I believe the answer to this, is the paddle shift that seems to go unmentioned or utilised in the review videos iv watched to date. I have a petrol ordered which got picked up from the dock today and should be with the dealer now. I have ordered the Diesel which should arrive in June. Kia has done so well with its latest models I'm so interested in the new sorento and the sportage not sure which one to go for,any recommendations which is better pros and cons I can't decide thankyou
The DCT will shift slower when you're in the 'normal' drive mode. DCTs are not epicyclic automatics, so don't drive them like one; if you need to overtake, flick a paddleshift, or just don't be impatient, expecting a family SUV to drive like a Porsche. Fix the driver, not one of the best transmissions ever fitted to a mainstream passenger vehicle which saves you 6% in fuel over a regular auto (which you did praise for its 5.0L/100km consumption).
With the android auto and 1/3 of the screen not being utilised, this was recently fixed with an update that Kia has to load up when servicing, update is covered under warranty.
Great review PM. I like the looks. I have a Stinger and you can hit a tab on the screen in some apps to make the screen bigger but will try Android Auto in my car and let you know. Cheers
I ordered the new Sportage GT-Line Diesel last week (should arrive by the end of the month) I'm a little nervous as I've always owned performance vehicles so it'll probably take a bit of getting used to an engine that doesn't deliver 0-100 in 5 seconds or less... But, I think this will be a great Family car! I absolutely love the interior and exterior, I'm all for that styling. The tech and safety is impressive, I particularly love piano black, my current car has a lot of it (I just quickly polish it with a sunglass cloth) As for the seats though, I'm a bit let down because the overseas models have that nice quilted look - And the Australian model has boring seats (in my opinion) I would have much preferred the quilted design. I suppose I'll see what I think when it arrives 🤔
There are devices you can plug into the usb port. That acts like a phone. You then connect your phone wirelessly to the device. And yes, it is full screen plus a whole lot of extra features like TH-cam only when your in park ofcourse and netflix and a whole range of other stuff. You basically got the android app store to download anything you can download on your phone.
Shame that you didn't also do the base model - the GT-Line is gorgeous inside, but it's another $18,000 on top of the base model S and when you hop in, you can tell. It's not bad by any means, but it isn't anywhere near as special inside either.
Just test drove the diesel not as refined as I would like not bad while cruising though That piano black is a shocker though other than that a lot of pluses, off to test drive Rav 4 hybrid and CX5 tomorrow, I thought the sportage would be an instant buy but I will wait. Nice review 👍
The piano black is really the only downside. I don't get why they have to use it. However sitting in the RAV 4 is going to be a joke with it's little 8 inch screen compared to the Kia's. I wouldn't bother personally...The CX-5 should feel very nice to sit in, it's definitely getting on in age, but still a lot more pleasant than the RAV 4. Personally it would be between the Sportage and the new Tiguan. You should go check that out.

I've just ordered a Sportage GT-Line Diesel. thank you for your excellent reports on this vehicle and many others also.
Just ordered mine a week back. Still waiting when it's going to be delivered 😃
And yes I ordered GT diesel 🤩
Me too! I'm told mine will be delivered 29th November
Hi is diesel better than petrol? Just wanna get some insight of it
I got my GT diesel delivered yesterday. Its just 😘 superb interior, smooth running, so much power in the car. I just loved it.
@@2540manu I picked mine up yesterday too! It arrived early, I was so excited! It's a magnificent car... So smooth on the road with plenty of grunt! So glad you're happy with yours too!
I love the design of all new Kia vehicles. They certainly have come a long way in such a short time. "not bad for a Kia" phrase no longer valid.
I totally agree!
Was just waiting for this review, infact was about to ping you on twitter asking for this? Fantastically covered as always. Thanks Paul!! confused between petrol gt and diesel gt though considering I don't do much of driving (Max 8-10k per year)
Thanks mate! Definitely go the diesel - I know you don't do much driving, but the driving experience is so much better.
@@peterpanousis8458 Yeah 95% of my driving is short urban trips so I'm concerned about that also.
Love your reviews Paul. REQUEST: Do you think you can add whether rear windows go all the way down to your reviews?
My kid hates it when rear window doesn't go all the way down
@@kmuinde exactly where I'm coming from
This is becoming increasingly rare because kids have a tendency to stick their libs out the window, which is 1. illegal and 2 dangerous.
Finally ....carexpert presents KIA Sportage !!! 👍👍👍 One of the most my favorite Cars 🙂🙂...thank u carexpert 🙏🙏
I like Sportage. But I agree with you the gear box needs a new upgrade.
Hyundai and kia’s rebrand (both in terms of branding but also in terms of style and car design) is absolutely fantastic. It’s made an enormous difference to the feel of the brand and the perceived quality of the cars. Love it.
It would be nice to see some light off-road test with this kind of suvs
when i first saw it i didn't like it, but as i looked close at it i started to like it & now i love it
Hi Paul You Best Reviewer In Australia, Love from Indonesia 🇲🇨
Thanks legend!
was really looking forward to this one, you have done a great job as always Paul. I was expecting the 1.6L turbo to be good but its not the case it appears.

Hi Paul awesome reviews, just took the Sportage GT line Diesel for a test drive, very impressive with lots of poke not too sure about the 1.7 petrol some customers were saying it lacked power but we were very happy overall with the car - still comparing
hmm, not sure about the exterior design. interior looks fantastic though. Great review as always Paul.
Thanks for watching!
Once again, great review Paul. I think its time for me to get over the stigma that comes with the KIA and Hyundai brand from the past.
Thanks for your comprehensive, honest reviews 😊… I’ve ordered a GT line diesel in Jungle Green. Can’t wait ‘til it arrives! 🥳
Congrats on the purchase!
Have you got it yet? xD
Great review..KIA come very long way from what they used to be...if i were buying this spotage,i'll definitely go for diesel no question ask
Agreed!
Keep up the good work Paul. Such a great channel.
Thanks mate!
I personally find the 7 speed dual clutch very responsive and sporty and I would get it over the 8 speed auto.
I bought sportage GT with 7 speed dct and its very responsive and feel sporty. I don’t why he said jerky. May b Kia updated the software on ours.

Paul you convinced me, ordered GT-Line Diesel Steel Grey as car you reviewed, only concern is the delivery 10 months crazy.
Will be a few months off 80 my concern will I make it. Great review thank you. Traded my Mercedes.
Your videoes are great paul 👍👍👍

Very impressed with your review. Natural and no hype. Will be watching more as I attract my dream car.

I absolutely love this design! I'm generally a Mazda guy. Love that green colour!
The green colour is amazing!
I love the look of it. Very modern almost futuristic. Very cool
It looks great in person!
Great review Paul, as always. I was looking forward to this. 👏
They are jacket holders and the hooks are for bags as per Kia Korea launch video. Just bought one coming Dec. If you want one, need to hurry or long delay.
Paul from Australia and Ciro from South Africa has such different styles in presenting the cars, but just about the only two I watch on new releases. Paul a bit more critical and technical, Ciro a more like an ordinary guy would experience the car. Keep up the good work boys.
So happy to finally have this reviewed! Right now it's a toss up between this and the Sorento GT Line for me. I don't need the 3rd row but the looks alone makes me want to spend the extra cash and drive it with the 3rd row down
I'm in the same boat! Leaning towards the Sorento just for the extra width on the second row
@@sydryan9589 good call, that's also a bug consideration as an adult with no kids, but plenty of mates that like a lift around from me haha
I’d lean towards the Sorrento if it was me. I don’t often recall thinking that I’d need less space. Imagine an IKEA run and having to leave things behind 😂
@@lordcaptain73 Good call. Next decision is petrol or diesel? :|
Petrol or diesel? Will depend on your driving habits I.e. shorter trips vs highway? The hybrid due out early next year is also a consideration
Thanks - an comprehensive and excellent review!
I had an extended test drive in the diesel GT and could not fault the equipment level and engine/transmission. Well worth the extra $3K over the turbo petrol.
GT diesel on order -
Probable Feb/Mar 22 delivery.
By far my favourite Aussie car reviewer
Amazing, in the intro when they show the CX5 it looks really dated.
Great and honest review. I test drove the Diesel GT yesterday and I can confirm it has sounds of nature. I ended up ordering the Diesel due to your feedback on the dual clutch. I didn't get to drive the petrol to compare.
Is in stock in Brisbane, will be delivered next week fingers crossed.
@@jorgeavila3385 hey Jorge. Did you end up getting the GT Diesel? I ordered mine in November and am STILL waiting!! 😩
@@boy23q oh sorry to hear that. Yes I got in in December. Only colour available was white pearl. If I had ordered a colour I would have waited 6 months they said.
Hey Paul another great review. I really enjoy watching your reviews, always very detailed and informative.
Thanks for reviewing this car Paul. I’ve been really keenly waiting for your review of this car as I’m interested in maybe buying one. Thanks for the advice
Hope you enjoy it!
Went with my mum to test drive one, and I was really impressed with the base model and so was mum, that she's even ordered one, will take about 6 months dealer said (Taranaki, New Zealand)
By the way, the back of the seats things, they're coat hangers

100% agree, it's what I look for.
that is probably one of the best cameras on any review I have seen. from a kia no less. brilliant. it is absolutely essential on any modern car and bemusing to see poor quality in new cars such as the rav 4.
Fantastic car and amazing design, diesel on order, 4 weeks! Bit peeved they cancelled the shadow matte grey I originally reserved 😖 and only the choice of black or black for interior which is so boring
The thing on the back of the headrests is a coat holder
Thanks for that!
Toyota has got serious competition from Kia and Hyundai. Both brands are innovating like anything
Trading my rav4 hybrid cruiser for the GT Diesel. The Rav feels like a car that's 10 years old already.
I was sold on Seltos until you said about cheap interior & creaking sunroof ( that I want in my next car) also I wanted the 2tone that you can’t get with a sunroof!!! What would you recommend that has a similar look (with a sunroof & two toned😊) thanx sonya

Great review but didn't really look at the sunroof or the little touches like the touch sensitive LED interior lights etc...but minor details...
G’day, what was the turn around from order to delivery? And did colour make a difference in delivery time?
We are about to order diesel too!

What Colour will you get?
@@violetaxhiku3269 I ordered the snow pearl white
I don't know either how to make Android Auto full screen.. But that Sportage is really impressive. KIAs are just so well equipped

Been a mechanic for 25 years and owned Kia/Hyundai diesels. Never heard of a DPF problem, although I'm sure it can happen. During Covid our Sorrento would travel literally less than 2kms most day to drop off and pick up kids from school. Never had a problem.

Me too! Should be here on the 29th of this month
Why is there only 1 leather colour option in Australia, love to C the blue and white offered in Korea
Thanks for the look, yes the diesel would be the preferred option.
I have noticed a few reviewers comment on the gearbox been abit 'clunky' in regular drive modes when they 'punch it or at lower speeds'
The average family driver will not notice this, but for nit picking enthusiast that do (myself included) I believe the answer to this, is the paddle shift that seems to go unmentioned or utilised in the review videos iv watched to date.
Great informative video nonetheless 👍
I have a 2019 kia sportage and I really really want this one! Must go for a test drive 😊

Hi Paul, just ordered Kia Sportage GT-line hopefully will get delivered in 8-9 months time.We also have new Seltos sports +love what great car to drive. GO KIA 🙂😊
I drove the diesel GT Line and loved it. It is an awesome car. By the time I was in a position to order one (thanks for nothing GIO), I could not find a diesel GT line available. I have a petrol ordered which got picked up from the dock today and should be with the dealer now. I have ordered the Diesel which should arrive in June. I am hoping that the petrol will not loose too much value when I sell it in June. What do people think my chances of selling it for the same price are given the market at the moment?
Should be able to sell without depreciation
How is the 1.6L turbo in the real world? Have 1 on order but thinking i may cancel or change to diesel.

I went to Melbourne City kia yesterday for a test drive, they told me they can only get it by March next year 😭
@@freakazo You should contact regional dealerships (that's what I did)
There are devices you can plug into the usb port.
Thank you Paul. Great review. This Sportage looks good. waiting for a hybrid version and it's review.
I'm looking forward to the hybrid too!
I love it! Kia had the balls to make something different than other manufacturers. And i believe they nailed it!
Tucson vs. Shortage. Which design do you prefer?
Back of the front two head rests are jackets/coats hanger
🙌
Just test drove the diesel not as refined as I would like not bad while cruising though
That piano black is a shocker though other than that a lot of pluses, off to test drive Rav 4 hybrid and CX5 tomorrow, I thought the sportage would be an instant buy but I will wait.
Yeah it's piano black overload inside!
