One thing that would really make this stand out is if they brought back hydropneumatic suspension. It's part of their history, would give them a standout selling point and with a huge EV would be perfect. They could also make it handle amazingly just like the Xantia Activa! Road scanning camera suspension is crap lets be honest.
Actually there have been some successful ones, but most of the time they are initially received favorably before having their reputation nuked by endemic reliability issues.
Recently yes, absolutely, but there was a time when a Citroen DS was selling in the millions, the CX and the XM weren’t total failures as well, and not to mention 1920/30s custom coach builders
For once it looks like Stellantis made a promising or at least interesting car. Personally I absolutely loathe the SUV/crossover mania but it's clear that a lit of thought has gone into this one.
This is going to depreciate like throwing an anvil off a tall building. It'll make a fantastic used purchase at three years old, if you can find one...
I agree but the new A6 is better in every other ways, 800v architecture, 270kw charging speed, actual usable cup holders in the front, better multimedia system, faster acceleration/performance, etc. If only DS could match that this could be an awesome car.
I have to be honest. For me a DS has always been the DS 21. And then it stopped there. When DS was (re)borne, I was sceptical and none of them caught my eyes (ok maybe the DS4). But this one clearly brings back the level of luxury and sophistication French can offer. I am astonished by the exterior and the interior design and materials. I am French and wanted to love this DS, but for the fully equipped 85k version you don't even get a sunshade or roof glass dimming technology (which you get on a 40k Renault Rafale), no accessible/usable cup holders in the front although French manufacturers have been criticized in the past for lack of cup holders and I thought they had moved past that. The car also doesn't have 800v architecture like the new Audi A6 e-tron for the same price. It's also slower than the Audi A6 e-tron, with its rear-wheel-drive base model being as quick as the most powerful all-wheel-drive DS8. The DS's multimedia system seems to be the same as before, which is really behind many of its competitors and frustrating to use. Lastly, crossover-sedan coupes like this don't usually sell very well, like the Peugeot 408 for example, so I fear this model may have the same faith. DS's best selling car is by far the DS 7 and I wish they could make it their flagship and bring us a new (long awaited) version of this model instead. If only DS could focus more on ergonomics and less on "concept car" design, I think they would do much better not only in France but also internationally.
I mean it’s an acquired taste, very different…but the quality of the interior, the duo tone etc. is absolutely putting to shame some premium German brands (hello 5 series, hello A6). That’s one part of the job done, next it needs to drive as well
I'm actually impressed with this, well done DS. As someone who neither wants an SUV (or Crossover liftback?!) nor an EV at present, what a beautiful and welcome departure from what we're being served up by those other so-called "premium" German brands. At first blush, it pips my current favourite Polestar 4 by daring to have an actual rear window, oooh. It's clearly not been designed by committee or coaxed into life by a bunch of souless bean counters. Yes £50k starting price is still far too high to justify unless you're committed to keeping it for basically...forever. But I could easily live with that cabin, it's gorgeous. Let's hope it's designed to last.
Front and back are fine, a little bit eccentric but ok, but the side profile... yeah, all those black wonky line at the bottom and random triangle at the C-pillar. Nor elegant enough for a big luxury car. And the hiden rear doors handle? I mean, aren't these big cars supposed to be more rear passenger centric? What do they want to convey here? This car was suppoaed to be a 2-door sport coupe or what?

It's their halo brand. But yeah, the DS Automobile name is just bad. Luxury brand without a legacy. What were they thinking? Should have just revive the Lancia brand for this, or use Maserati instead.
I agree, if only Renault could offer the new Rafale with the same 390hp dual electric motor as the Nissan Ariya I would replace my Tesla model Y for it in a heartbeat. This car has great potential, but not with the 1.2L 3-cylinder hybrid setup it currently only offers...
Gorgeous car. Last year I was close to buy DS4 but the horrible infotainment system , lack of real 360 camera in Sweden and road noise from the wheels were the main reason I did not buy it. Until this day I think it's the best looking car and I love this pearl white colour.
I had a ds4 for six months in the uk it was ok but it’s not a luxury brand Especially the dealerships are terrible that’s why I ended up buying a Lexus
@@AI-qd4vb Lexus is luxurious though. You can't take that away from it. Luxury & reliability. Techwise, it's lagging but it doesn't intend to be a market leader in that area.
Does not have the magic of what a big flagship from DS should be, particularly when DS is meant to be upmarket Citroen. I always prefered the flagship big Citroens of the past, and for me, the last truely French, beautiful, different, and great Citroen was the C6.... Now that was presidential. It was always such an event when the big Citroen's were released. I hope one day that Stellantis scraps DS, and let Citroen be Citroen again. The big Citroens would have been perfect cars for being electric, and can you imagine how great it would be to see a next Generation C6, to carry on that awesome line of DS, SM, CX, XM and the C6. Even the Metropolis Concept back in 2010 was amazing.
Yes the rear window does look like a Toyota Crown but I do like the front and back design. Wheels look nice but I think that interior is what sets the car apart from other cars it's good quality and very different fromother cars. It does look more premium that the standard PSA group cars. I have to say they did a very good job here . Great review Thomas super detailed as usual . Bis bald my friend . Ciao , ciao !
Really interesting preview, thank you. This is distinctive and a reasonably restrained design which suggests quality. It looks good inside and out. The pricing from say €60-90k looks justifiable if you want this sort of car - it is too big for me. I imagine the ride and handling are French and reasonably soft. It would be interesting in time to see it compared to the new Jaguars announced in the last ten days or so.
I really like DS, the interiors feel nicer than the average German premium brand car. Its a shame it doesn't get the performance figures of german cars
@@megaintegrator How would you know how many wash sessions it had? Why make dumb stuff up like that? And in any case, if not washed properly, any car will be scratched and have swirls. Unless you put some really thick ceramic cloak or ppf. Any standard towel can scratch even the best paints out there.
Have you ever bought a car new and checked it's overall paint? Most parts of the car are checked after the paint job but that does not mean it is perfect. And let's not forget these cars have most likely already been used internal for many uses as maybe for advertisement and have been wiped/cleaned many times over.
On the outside looks very Chinese, which may be a good thing, but that screen is too small for the Asian market. They used to sell 300k cars per year in China, now around 100k globally.
I think it's not a bad car to kick start things again in China for DS, but would need some reworking first to extend the rear cabin space (crucial for the Chinese market), and as you say probably a larger infotainment screen with more local software. Design/battery/efficiency though it all scores well on, plus the 'made in Paris' marketing will help to elevate it over there.
Not a big fan of the two-tone colours, but the side profile looks amazing - beautiful! If they could just clean up the front, which looks messy in my opinion, I would consider this one as my next car. But in single-tone colour.
The only odd thing on this car is the star steering wheel. Where you have to hold it might prove tiring for the hands as no resting place as currently. Looks nice car though.
I like the effort, don't get the one-piece cheap plastic piano black "buttons" on the superb looking steering wheel. Imagine them with actual individual buttons. Also, volume knob, please manufacturers, how hard is to implement a volume knob???
Ok, I can see this as a C6 successor... Only questionable choice for me the "handle" how to close the front door... As it is so near to the front end of the door, it seems it will require quite a force to close....
The car needs more rear passenger space and less trunk space. It looks like it was tailored for passenger space with that large rear door but, it's disappointing when you open inside and see the space, nice materials, though that would wear off once you sit back there for a long drive.
Question for Thomas. Why is it a good thing when the key is heavy? There is nothing more annoying than carrying around a heavy key in your pocket or jacket. In my opinion, a light key is much more convenient (and preferable).
Does any car manufacturer under utilise a stellar design heritage quite as consistently as Citroen? I'm struggling to imagine how much further they could get away from chic & elegant.
I think this could be a turning point for DS. EV's could be the perfect way for DS to start selling more vehicles as you can justify a higher price point. I used to have a DS3 CROSSBACK petrol and it was really nice. My Mom just purchased an 18 month old electric DS3 CROSSBACK and with only 10K miles on the clock for £16K. She looked at the different cars on the same platform - Mokka, E-C4 and the 2008 but the DS3 had the nicest interior, ride quality and it's SO quiet and comfortable. It's way quieter and more comfortable than my Toyota bZ4X!
The thing I don’t understand about electric cars is if the battery life is around 20 years, that means we can’t keep it forever, and if we want to sell it after 10 or 15 years, who gonna buy it with only half or less battery life? Considering the replacement battery is still expensive
I like it, very French avant garde, something you definitely wouldn't see with the Germans or Koreans. I guess it has some Chinese elements but that should help it sell. Hope it will be a succes, unlike the 9.
I would disagree. For starters, the herd mentality of a committee would have thrown out all that Alcantara as a needless expense, chosen interior door handles and steering wheel from the stock Stellantis parts bin. They would have replaced all that blue with black and squared off the long vertical indicator lights. Even the pano roof would have been made square and not left with that quirky hump shape at the back. Try again.
I kinda like the overstyled design of ds, it being electric kinda relieves some of the problems of french cars. And not that much gloss black either! People complaining about the 0-100.. this is a french highway boat, not a m3 sports car you chuck in corners.
Thomas, to be honest with you, it looks breathtaking good on the outside. But at the same time it looks: "Don't drive me like a BMW or Honda from te 90's 'cause I am waaayyy toooo expensive and I will fall a part if you go crazy fast around the corners! “ 😎
I have always loved the design language from Citroen, and DS Automobiles, although sometimes the execution has been a bit hit-and-miss. The front of the No.8i, in my opinion, is a bit non-descript, whereas the side and rear have a stronger aesthetic. I will have to wait to see it in the flesh but this looks to be by far a more fitting Top Model in the line than the DS9. I think carmakers are starting to come back to the idea that design matters, we seem to moving out of that homogenised jelly mould that was change in size but not over all design with different badges depending on the brand. Now if only they could inject this innovative model into their other brands, the FCA part of the business does not seem to be in the same health as its European brethren. Love the reviews Thomas 😊
Look at the swirls at 02:03…. 😮 the back looks somewhat like an old Saab 900 / 9-3 🎉 Tha charging port flap on the road side is very tricky.. folds open quite a bit and in parisien traffic it will be quite quickly damaged or even gone..😢
Stellantis claims 160kW charging between 20-55% SOC, meaning a rather flat charging curve (like the old e-tron 55). Average charging rate should be 140kW between 10-80% SoC. Is sub 2C charging really up to date? To me it seems as if DS is trying to posh up their platform to sell this car at a higher margin. The VW ID.7 Touring seems to hit the spot with sedan customers currently, but I don't see customer looking for a true premium car switching to DS in this segment with options like the i4/i5/EQE and or even the Lucid.
Looks nice and should be very refined with good range. I think the (Citroën) DS5 was their best design. Hard to see this breaking through. A niche product for wealthy people who want something different and classy. Big depreciation, so may be a great used buy.
@@IvanNikitin1all germans brands are technically obsolete. It’s not the technical that create the appeal factor, it’s the SAV and reliability, it’s there that Stellantis have to work hard.

At least DS aren't scared to make their cars look futuristic and optimistic as well... good job

Question for Thomas. Why is it a good thing when the key is heavy? There is nothing more annoying than carrying around a heavy key in your pocket or jacket. In my opinion, a light key is much more convenient (and preferable).
pro and con, on the one hand it conveys premium quality, on the other hand the practicability, indeed can argue both sides
Light key better for sure, no key at all is best
Gorgeous
That looks great, particularly in Thomas blue
I like it, very French avant garde, something you definitely wouldn't see with the Germans or Koreans. I guess it has some Chinese elements but that should help it sell. Hope it will be a succes, unlike the 9.
This should sell far better than it will! Amazing car, quite unique
At last a proper and different flagship for DS!
Frohe Weihnachten Leah and Thomas! We love you!
happy holiday season! thanks! ❤️
Special. Unique. Love the special luxurious interior touches and delicacy.
Citroen C6 from 2 decades ago looks better. Not to mention the disfunctional steering wheel.
Such a beautiful and luxurious interior !
Thank you Thomas!
🙌
Design by committee? Messy. I noticed how scratched up it was already
That's nothing to do with design, that's the idiot valeters.
Try again.
@ I agree. They do need to try again
Wow! Although I’am a BMW-driver - so I like the German designs - I think this is a lovely modell. Great! 😎
A very beautiful car! Congrats Citroen!!! ❤
Gorgeous- but will depreciate like a stone
Nice to see a different design that is not an aerodynamic blob or an ugly duckling like the BMW iX
The steering wheel is unique with its four spoke design; and a far cry from the original DS single spoke wheel of the 50s and 60s design.😊
I kinda like the overstyled design of ds, it being electric kinda relieves some of the problems of french cars. And not that much gloss black either!
People complaining about the 0-100.. this is a french highway boat, not a m3 sports car you chuck in corners.
Wow. What a great car.
Fantastic desing, very fancy interior, a like it a lot!!
Great job! Your videos are always so high quality and interesting! 😚🍒
Hello my friend, always a pleasure to see you bring new stuff. Question: Where is the DS 21? Thank you👍😎💙🇺🇦
thanks !!
I laughed when I saw the steering as it made me remembered a mounted frog from my Zoology practicals class...
Looks awesome! Vive la France
Very Nice car. Ds is working very well in my opinion.
This one should be a station wagon with a 2 liter turbo diesel plug in hybrid. And some other design for the steering wheel.
Let’s just see if they actually fixed the onboard charger problem…
Gott Im Himmel! It's gorgeous!!
Every time I watch your videos I find something new and amazing in them. Keep inspiring and surprising us!⬛️🎆🌴
No color I recall was so close to “Tomas Blue” as this “Topaz Blue” 😂
😎
What a beautiful car. Not going to lie makes everything else on the marked looks like crap.
Thomas, to be honest with you, it looks breathtaking good on the outside. But at the same time it looks: "Don't drive me like a BMW or Honda from te 90's 'cause I am waaayyy toooo expensive and I will fall a part if you go crazy fast around the corners! “ 😎
P. S.
On the interior it is breathtaking also. Heats off to French boldness.
hehe =)
Love the reviews Thomas 😊
thanks keep tuning in !
Look at the swirls at 02:03…. 😮 the back looks somewhat like an old Saab 900 / 9-3 🎉 Tha charging port flap on the road side is very tricky.. folds open quite a bit and in parisien traffic it will be quite quickly damaged or even gone..😢
Haha this is designd by a group of 20 franch lhbtgqgdye+++ while drinking vigan wine they/them.
Very interesting after depreciation 😂
I doubt we will see any of these on the second hand market ;) There won't be a lot of people wanting to buy technically obsolete car for 85,000.
@@IvanNikitin1 Im sure you thought you said something smart in your head.
@@IvanNikitin1all germans brands are technically obsolete. It’s not the technical that create the appeal factor, it’s the SAV and reliability, it’s there that Stellantis have to work hard.
Beautiful car. Looks great from all angles. Is that a Hanhart you are wearing?
Ah one for Carlos Tavares to drive off into the sunset in. Next person in will probably scrap it !. Thanks for the video.
cheers!
1:08 When lower trim looks more classy then top trim.
Will the right hand drive have charging on our off-side. Otherwise I cannot charge in my garage
