Can blame LED lighting for that. Because there are no LEDs that are individually tested and rated for legal road use, manufacturers have to have entire light assemblies rated. This in turn means when one LED element gives up, you have to replace the entire unit to remain legal. Why do car reviewers always make the German car makers the ones to beat. I cannot name one German car manufacturer that will give you top notch reliability, build quality and good customer service. Many years ago you always paid a bit more for a VW as they were mostly better built than the competition and in the luxury segment, Mercedes were the ones to beat when it came to build and reliability (not anymore as documented customer satisfaction surveys have shown this.) Today the Koreans/Japanese manufacturers are the ones to beat. It seems weird that a KIA is a better long term buy than a VW product or Mercedes/BMW but it is true!
I have come to find that the cars themselves (VW) are well put together and reliable, if looked after; but their dealership network is absolutely atrocious, to the point that my car will never visit them, ever again! I have not found more inept customer service than a VW dealer. Prefer the Euro trained local mechanic to anything with a blue circular thing on a signpost.
It’s amazing the premium we are now willing to pay for the addition of bigger screens and a few USB ports ; parts that cost very little. I am starting to miss the analogue speedometer - I feel they can make a better design statement than just a flat screen.
this Kia really changed my mind about the brand... I currently own an Audi but looking for a change... was looking at the Rav4 but this Kia is more modern more features for less
I just got one in Texas. I really like it, but I keep worrying that maybe I could have found something better. This helped me with my buyers remorse. But I paid about $33k + extended warranty. Still not bad considering it’s a 2023. And not hybrid. Lol

@@arghstar I know right! It’s quite a difficult job styling wise, as the back is quite tall! Left as a single surface, it would look high and bland. Hey. Great review. I'm 6'4"and was curious as to the leg support in the front seats. Something I always struggle with especially on long journeys. I've read a few comments about this in the new sportage that the seats are quite shallow. Thoughts?
I'm 192cm and 104kg heavy and during my test drive I found the seats to be very comfortable. They are very firm and they give you good support. Leg room was also plenty. One thing thing that bothered me was the position of the seat which was slightly too high. Should've been a bit lower. Another thing that bothered me is the lack of padding on the center console where my leg rested against. Also less headroom with the panoramic sunroof. I wouldnt order one anyway, so not a real problem for me.
@@TT-hx9nj hey thanks. Its not really the head space I'm concerned about. It's the seat depth. Some vehicles have crazy shallow seats that don't support longer legs. Unless you go for a BMW or audi that have the extendable end on the seat which are great (but don't like either brand).
It is better than German rivals due to KIA's superior reliability record and customer service. I think this KIA is a bit pricey and would pay a bit more and have a Lexus NX. I think that the NX although still expensive is worth it due to its top notch reliability, great customer service and amazing build quality. Good review.
Germans are more luxurious in terms of interior and more refined on the road. But Kia's beat them in reliability. Personally wouldn't consider the Lexus. Overhyped af imo. Would take the Kia any day, overall.
The NX is nice but the tech is dated compared to the sportage, the kia has way more features, parking assist, blind spot cameras integrated into the digital speedometer, 360 camera, ambient lighting, better transmission gearbox, more room and a panoramic sunroof. Your only saying "a bit pricey "because it's a kia. It's priced for way less than what it could be. If this was a Mercedes it would be around 60k easily
Really like this car, the 2x 12.3 inch displays are class and interior is of high standard. The exterior looks excellent too. Prior to the launch of this car I was considering the Tucson, but I don't like the infotainment display being low eye line for sat nav use as deemed them unsafe by taking eyes off the road. This Kia displays fits the bill perfectly. Now all I have to decide is when I can afford this car, hybrid or diesel I should go for.
I'm confused, how come your hybrid comes with the jungle green/black roof but the hybrids on Kia's website don't get that option? Is that only for European hybrids? That's not fair :"(
Depends on the level of hybrid. Black roof is only available on the GT-Line S anyway; Experience Green's not available with a black roof on the 48v mild hybrid, but it is on the self-charging HEV and on the PHEV (Kia's UK site)
@@imdone1967 I would rather kill myself than buy the CX5 with that interior. I was looking at it before ordering the new GT Line and exterior is really fine and nicely composed but the interior is one old looking boring garbage. I would never give my 38k which I've paid for the Sportage, to buy a car with such a bad interior.
There's 1 thing I really miss, you can NOT remotely preheat/cold the aircon at all, which I think sucks, the PHEV sould be able to do this I tink! Strang you say it has barely any wind noise in all other videos I watched they say there's plenty, hmm Thanx for the video :)
I got the refresh KX4 mild hybrid version end of 2019 and it is a fantastic car. Only thing I can give a negative on is that the ride is a little bumpy over certain roads but it does have 19 inch alloys and the rear and overhead camera could be better resolution. I did think about waiting for the new version but I am glad I did not as I think previous model looks much better and it has not aged at all. Interior looks very nice though on new model. I like the colour of this one as well but...... My big issue is the price. I would be happy to pay 40k for a Sorrento but not sure I would for a Sportage. It is my second Kia and would have one over any so called premium German car but for a family SUV 40k is wayyyyy to much. I got similar specs for my Sportage and I got that for 24k when part exchange and discounts are considered. The bump up in price seems a bit to much for me. A good non biased review!

Brilliant review which is informative, fun and exciting! It might have saved me some money too because I am very tempted to go for a hybrid but hearing your comments, I am most likely to go for petrol. I don't think it would make much of a difference in terms of fuel efficiency! Your thoughts, please?
If you mostly drive short journeys and can keep the batteries charged then the hybrid will get huge mpg. But if you're just using for longer trips and the occasional motorway drive then I imagine the petrol will do just as well in terms of mpg.

@@TimRodieDrivesStuff mostly short journeys with some longer journeys from time to time. Gracias
I wondered if the all wheel drive system made the car heavier, thereby affecting mpg performance. Regarding 11:00 - I drove this and the Mazda CX5 a few days ago, and I must say that the Kia is miiiiiles away from Mazda. If this sounds noisy for you, unfortunately you'll curse the Mazda's 2.5l 4x4 "powerful" petrol engine.
On my second view of this (go ahead, judge me) and just noticed you said no wireless andriod auto! Feels completely pointless having wireless charging if you then have to plug it in to use android auto or apple play!?!
@@juwon1234 The longer wheelbase sportage will also consume more fuel since it's heavier than the short. If you are looking at fuel usage why look at a suv at all.
You say the GTlineS model you’re testing is around £38,000, however according to the new UK price list that is for the 2wd model. The 4wd model you tested is £40,250 which unfortunately takes it into the ‘Luxury Tax Class’ which is going to cost a lot more over the first 5 Years of life. It’s well specced, but is it worth paying the ‘Luxury Tax’.
@@FCisThePunisher If your car cost more than £40,000 when bought new, you have to pay an extra £335 (as from April 2021) per year for five years, on top of the standard rate. The standard rate kicks in after the first year, and you pay £155 for petrol and diesel cars, and £145 for hybrids and EV’s. EV’s are also not subject to the £40,000 tax threshold.
We’ve already seen a backtrack for design with regards to recognising that physical temperature controls are more practical than screens- just wondering if they will also step back on the screens too; so that you have an analogue or semi-digital speedometer cluster again rather than just another flat screen. To me it looks cheap and removes character from a car to just have two flat screens (although everyone is currently doing it)- I think it’s a win for car manufacturers now though as cheaper to produce, so they will be reluctant to change back and we are willing to pay a premium for a perceived technological benefit (even if actually there is very little benefit).
Yes Tim we wanted an new evoque but it was 12 months waiting like you said , also the tech is being stripped back on the new ones because of the material shortage . No 360 reverse cameras ( wing mirror camera not available) and the digital dash going back to analog. So the 70 plate Range Rover we were test driving had more tech on it than the one we were about to buy !?! And had to wait 12 months . Blessing in disguise as the top spec Sportage is far more loaded up and 15k saving makes it even sweeter
I think I would have preferred a review of a lower spec car, maybe one up from bottom spec to be more representative. That said I own a ten year old Kia Rio 2 1.4 petrol and it's been great apart from a problem with the front passenger door not always wanting to open from the inside (sorted the next day under warranty) no problems. Early to mid 40s mph general driving and 50/52 on a run and I much prefer the 4 pot 1.4 to the 3 cylinder sewing machine engines everybody is putting in everything these days.

I’m trading in a Q3 for GT Line S which has so many extras. Really looking forward to it
Great review..you forgot to mention the £500 VED cost for 5 years on the plug in version...because the list price goes over £40k :-(
Wish we get that colour in Australia, it’s stunning
I'll never understand how manufacturers decide which colours go where...
Selling my x6 to replace it with KIA Sportage GT Line.
The BMW cost me a fortune. Absolute rubbish vehicle. So happy to go KIA !
Looking for opinions, top of the line Kia Sportage 22 or top of the line Skoda Kodiak, what seems better value for money?
Great review
It’s amazing the premium we are now willing to pay for the addition of bigger screens and a few USB ports ; parts that cost very little. I am starting to miss the analogue speedometer - I feel they can make a better design statement than just a flat screen.
Another one to short list for a test drive when it comes time to update our X-Trail.
Is the interior flimpsy as the Tucson?
this Kia really changed my mind about the brand... I currently own an Audi but looking for a change... was looking at the Rav4 but this Kia is more modern more features for less
Could you compare 1.6 T-GDI Sportage with Nissan Qashqai? Which is better for family usage?
Can you please compRe kia sportage gt lin3 vs peugeot 2008, 2021 gt line
I just got one in Texas. I really like it, but I keep worrying that maybe I could have found something better. This helped me with my buyers remorse. But I paid about $33k + extended warranty. Still not bad considering it’s a 2023. And not hybrid. Lol
Does it do well in the Moose Test? Earlier Sportage models looked scary unstable.
I like the interesting styling effort and details on these 👍🏻
….apart from the lower rear section. I wish we could stop with the ‘diffusers’ on soft roaders.
Enjoyed 🤓
Why did they put a cheap plastic grey trim on the bottom of the rear though, looks terrible
@@arghstar
I know right!
It’s quite a difficult job styling wise, as the back is quite tall!
Left as a single surface, it would look high and bland. I just think some new design language is called for, so we can stop just lazily tacking on sports car-alike fake aero on perfectly agreeable soft roaders.
@@DontPanicDear I think as a black trim to match the two tone throughout would have been perfectly acceptable, the grey is just so out of place with everything else, such a shame
Is there a rear wiper?...I can't see one there....
Yes, it's tucked up under the roof spoiler
How is the interior, Hyundai Tuscon is quite plastic, is this one better or somewhat same?
How is the visibility out the back corner area ? Are the rear pillars blocking the visibility ?

@@TT-hx9nj cheers for the reply. I guess I'll just book a test drive some day and see for myself. Damn these long legs 🤣
We have the 2L GT line awd, does it come with a 2L awd hybrid and what are the towing capacities. Currently ours is 1900kg
What one will hold there money the best
What one would you go for the GT ??
Does the GT come in atomic
How much will this sportage cost in the US?
It is better than German rivals due to KIA's superior reliability record and customer service. I think this KIA is a bit pricey and would pay a bit more and have a Lexus NX. I think that the NX although still expensive is worth it due to its top notch reliability, great customer service and amazing build quality. Good review.
Bro... Lexus NX is twice as much as this one.
Mazda CX5 for me...
When are they doing the EuroNCAP tests?
Left hand drive, German number plates in the Surrey countyside :)
How is the interior compared to the top trim of the Tucson?
I've not driven the Tucson yet - will try and do that soon
Really like this car, the 2x 12.3 inch displays are class and interior is of high standard. The exterior looks excellent too. Prior to the launch of this car I was considering the Tucson, but I don't like the infotainment display being low eye line for sat nav use as deemed them unsafe by taking eyes off the road. This Kia displays fits the bill perfectly.
Now all I have to decide is when I can afford this car, hybrid or diesel I should go for.
Hybrid. Smoother, more quiet and more powerful, and some cities have already made plans to refuse entry to their centers for diesel cars.
The gts model is German?
It was one of the first press cars in the UK, so it was. Got a review of the UK one coming up soon!
Does the sportage come with a rear wiper?
Yes. It's mounted at the top and hidden by the roof spoiler.
Does it have spare tire for hybrid
Thank you
I'm confused, how come your hybrid comes with the jungle green/black roof but the hybrids on Kia's website don't get that option? Is that only for European hybrids? That's not fair :"(
This one was a German-plated pre-production version, not an official UK spec car... sorry
@@TimRodieDrivesStuff Ohhhh ok! Thnks for the reply!!
Depends on the level of hybrid. Black roof is only available on the GT-Line S anyway; Experience Green's not available with a black roof on the 48v mild hybrid, but it is on the self-charging HEV and on the PHEV (Kia's UK site)
Is Kia reliable in long term like 5years?
I'd save up for the EV6 if I was considering
Not everyone wants a full ev
Best in class! such a great value for all the technology and practical design
No , the best in class is the Mazda CX5
@@imdone1967 I would rather kill myself than buy the CX5 with that interior. I was looking at it before ordering the new GT Line and exterior is really fine and nicely composed but the interior is one old looking boring garbage. There's 1 thing I really miss, you can NOT remotely preheat/cold the aircon at all, which I think sucks, the PHEV sould be able to do this I tink! Strang you say it has barely any wind noise in all other videos I watched they say there's plenty, hmm Thanx for the video :)
I hope they keep the 40 20 40 when they come to the US.
Yes,u r right.... kia and hyundai in fast progressing
Its so funny comparing this to German cars, here in Australia these are LITERALLY half price of an equivelant german car.
I'm seriously considering the 2w drive hybrid.... folk tell me I should average around 44mpg, with better mpg on longer consistent motorway journeys...... thoughts welcome!!
I've test driven the hybrid version, and I was impressed with the drive and response.
@@loveclose it's definitely outside of my comprehension but I am personally thinking of the 2w hybrid! So, unless you do offroading, I wouldn't bother with AWD.
@ Agreed.... I did own a car with AWD, and mpg was definitely worse. 2WD lighter and consequently much better MPG. I'm definitely not considering AWD!! Thanks for your reply!
The True Fighting is VW T-ROC & Renault Kadjar
Regarding 11:00 - I drove this and the Mazda CX5 a few days ago, and I must say that the Kia is miiiiiles away from Mazda. If this sounds noisy for you, unfortunately you'll curse the Mazda's 2.5l 4x4 "powerful" petrol engine.
On my second view of this (go ahead, judge me) and just noticed you said no wireless andriod auto! Feels completely pointless having wireless charging if you then have to plug it in to use android auto or apple play!?!
Does it have an automatic parking assistant ?
Great review..very funny 👍😀
The rims look small or at least small compared to the wheel well size.
Need the US version. Need the longer wheelbase. Not happy with the short wheelbase. Just like the pegurt 5008.
Not happy with the wheelbase? Why do you even look at the sportage then. The you should instead look at the sorrento. Or another brand
@@catd11ng74 too big and heavy. That means more fuel usage.
@@juwon1234
The longer wheelbase sportage will also consume more fuel since it's heavier than the short.

Luxury car tax in UK, never heard of it🤔🤔🤔
@@FCisThePunisher If your car cost more than £40,000 when bought new, you have to pay an extra £335 (as from April 2021) per year for five years, on top of the standard rate. The standard rate kicks in after the first year, and you pay £155 for petrol and diesel cars, and £145 for hybrids and EV’s. EV’s are also not subject to the £40,000 tax threshold.
2009 model or ?
We’ve already seen a backtrack for design with regards to recognising that physical temperature controls are more practical than screens- just wondering if they will also step back on the screens too; so that you have an analogue or semi-digital speedometer cluster again rather than just another flat screen. To me it looks cheap and removes character from a car to just have two flat screens (although everyone is currently doing it)- I think it’s a win for car manufacturers now though as cheaper to produce, so they will be reluctant to change back and we are willing to pay a premium for a perceived technological benefit (even if actually there is very little benefit).
Just ordered one ☝️ can’t wait until April
Enjoy it! April seems like it's not very far away… most cars you're looking at a 12 month waiting time at the mo!
Have you picked up your new car yet?? Having fun? 😎

I think I would have preferred a review of a lower spec car, maybe
one up from bottom spec to be more representative. That said I
own a ten year old Kia Rio 2 1.4 petrol and it's been great apart from a problem
with the front passenger door not always wanting to open from the
