The minimalist police remind me of the vegan police. If you don't eat animals or use leather etc. as clothing, that's not enough. You have to do things they're way or it's not good enough. Likewise, certain minimalist's are obsessed with what others have or don't have. It makes me want to scream; "mind your business and do you.. stop worrying about other people."
I am not a minimalist, but I from what I see, the minimalist police have missed the point that you can have stuff. Minimalism isn't about not having anything. It's about owning your stuff and your stuff not owning you. I also really feel minimalism looks different to different people, so if I have 10 shirts I am not wrong just because you have 2 shirts.
@@gusmonster59 Exactly, everyone needs different things to feel fulfilled. I cannot go to someone's house and tell them how to live or what to wear. That same premise is what separates each individual.
It's a learning process to become a minimalist. We are very surprised at the amount of things we don't really need, and more surprised actually when discover that we don't regret the things we donate or let go. I think also that the tendency to become minimalist comes with age, well, because when we grow we know exactly what we want, most of the time 🙂
Allô Benita! First I have to say, I'm a little bit jealous of that cleaning supplies shop. I've never seen such a display of good looking brushes, rags, brooms etc. Second, I discovered that, minimalism doesn't have to be white, gray and black (depressed me). That furniture doesn't have to be modern. And capsule wardrobe can be colourful. I do have a "uniform" wearing mostly the same tops and bottoms in different pattern and colour. This way everything goes with everything.
I especially enjoyed this video. I liked hearing about your 'philosophy' of minimalism. Everyone has to define it and make it work for themselves, and you certainly have. You're a huge inspiration for me. Today I received the following quotes in my inbox which seem to fit with your philosophy: “If you really want to do something, you’ll find a way. If you don’t, you’ll find an excuse.” (Jim Rohn) “The easiest way to organize your stuff is to get rid of most of it.” (Joshua Fields Millburn) “Whatever you are not changing, you are choosing.” (Laurie Buchanan) “I am not organized because I have time. I have time because I am organized.” (Unknown) “You don’t need more space, you need less stuff.” (Joshua Becker) “A year from now you will wish you had started today.” (Karen Lamb) “We need much less than we think we need.” (Maya Angelou) “We should be choosing what we want to keep, not what we want to get rid of.” (Marie Kondo)
I do very much appreciate your prospective on minimalism. You're an older woman and I believe the only prominent one who actually brings minimalism into prospective, in a reasonable way. You still look feminine, chic, comfortable with yourself and your living space. I find your approach both inspiring and easily relatable. After all, as older women, we've lived a life and will have possessions but we should have them without them "having us."
Simplicity and quality. I'm guided by those things. Not wanting much does not mean wanting lower quality. Having everything I need, a few things i want and for those things to be of quality is my happy place.
Benita, I am excited to follow you as you move! When you post videos it is like I am hearing from a far-away friend. Thank you for reminding me to invest in the things that make me happy and bring me peace. Sending lots of love!
I enjoyed this. I got divorced 11 years ago after being married 19 years and I also have become very minimalist in my approach. Experiences are more important than stuff and it's freeing in so many ways.
I too find myself moving towards minimalism and I think I it’s because I’ve realised I’m not a sentimental person when it comes to “stuff”. My family is what’s important to me rather than things that remind me of times gone by. And I’ve never been able to concentrate in a messy workspace either!
And here it is - You own your stuff, your stuff doesn't own you. This more what I see minimalism to truly be. Her home looks comfortable and not empty. While I can't live with nothing but 4 t-shirts, doesn't mean someone else can. It's a choice. I've downsized a lot, but I still have a lot of things that bring me joy. I don't 'qualify' as a minimalist, but that isn't my goal. I actually do a lot of what she talks about here - buy the quality I can afford, have the things that bring me joy, and have enough for guests. The only thing I can never get an answer to is all the white. It seems like every minimalist's home is ALL white with no window coverings. I love colour and couldn't live that way. 🙂Thank you for showing what I feel minimalism truly is. PS - If you are in the process of downsizing, please consider donating your clothing and kitchen things to a domestic violence shelter. Those people often leave with nothing but the clothes on their back and need 'new' things to get set-up in a new life. Your old things could give someone a new start.
Your videos are always a joy to watch, minimalist design, pretty plants and flowers and lovely kitties and of course..inspiration to stay minimalist, which is a lifestyle I embrace.
im 53 and i am actively working on decluttering my life and finances (finally!!!) I have started decluttering my closets as we speak trying to pare my clothes down to a good capsule wardrobe. I should be debt free in a year 18 months at the latest and than i am going to work on moving back to Oklahoma my family is on the east coast but since moving here in Feb 2022 i just am not happy and I was happiest even with having to retire because of medical issues and now being 100 % disabled vet in oklahoma . i guess after 32 years in oklahoma it is just my home and i want to simplify my life. and minimalism is just perfect for me. Keep life simple be more present and value what i do have not what i dont.
I like your sensible approach to minimalism. It is a personal lifestyle that suits your needs, it is aesthetically pleasing while simple and practical. I especially believe in how having less stuff (1) saves precious time, and (2) allows us to buy quality products that we can enjoy longer. I would be very happy if I could achieve the degree of paring down that you have over the years.
Hello Benita! I have not been turning on my TV or tablet to watch anything for about 3 months now. I was binge watching anything and everything🥴 Today I saw your video pop up and decided to watch it. As always, you're voice is calming and it's like listening to a good friend. I am still on my minimalist journey and recently sent bigger pieces of furniture off to a good home. You are an inspiration!
I love how you explain that what you keep in your home is what you need to live comfortably in it, not a set amount of items. We are a family of 3 but I still keep 12 dinner plates, forks, knives, spoons, we have a big family and like to have family and friends over for meals. We all have individual needs and we should be free to meet those needs without judgement. You do you. I love your videos and of course the kitties 😻😻😁
I always look forward to a new video from you. The stores you shop have such a wonderful aesthetic. In the US it is becoming harder and harder to find quality items. More $$ does not necessarily = higher quality here. Even stores that used to be my go to for higher quality classics have gone the fast fashion route but with still the higher prices!
Thank you for this video! It shows that minimalism means care and being good to ourselves! Buying only what needed in good quality, having time, enjoy the life!
Your video's are very calming and enjoyable. I like when you film your shopping trips and show all the items that you enjoy looking at. I am looking forward to your video's on the move and more decluttering decisions you will be making. Thanks for today.
Benita, I can't tell you how much your Course helped me !! After taking your course and working for a couple of months (Still have a 3Br/3Bath ...), I have absolutely nothing I don't need or love ... My home Equals Peace and Joy finally yayyy . Now I'm looking for a smaller home :) Thank you !!!
I don't think I will ever be a full minimalist. I love small amount of decorating for fall, winter, spring. I just live with intention. Thank you Benita, i am in anticipation of your up coming videos. Prayers for smooth move with no hiccups! Have a Blessed day! 🌿🌻🙏🤗💗🐈🐈☕
I started my journey of minimalism due to you !! Am learning and growing, still decluttering and changing my habits. What I gain from minimalism is intentional living … Tack!
I like your comment about enjoying shopping more now. I thought shopping was fun when I was a maximalist. However, I find much more enjoyment now in finding the perfect piece or item to add to my already small collection. Great video! as usual 😊
For years I would consider myself a minimalist. Then I had a baby, now a toddler, our home looks anything than minimalist. But that's the season of life we're in. Soon she will grow up and what is needed will pair down and life will begin to look more uncluttered. Minimalism is recognizing what's needed for that season of life and knowing when to let it go. Thanks Benita, I always love your videos.
thanks for such an inspirational video. Seeing your cats is so endearing. I look forward to your move as I know you have great style and am keen to see how you decorate the new place.
Benita. Mini and Bonus are the cutest.😻 We also have a senior kitty and give her extra kisses. I love how you explain that being minimal is an individual thing. It is not a one size fits all. Good luck on your sell and your move! Hope you find the most perfect home!
I heartily agree! For me, getting minimal has been a process. Over the past ten years I’ve become more minimal, but I’m not trying to get to a strict aesthetic. It’s more about having my environment accommodate me, not vice versa.
Doh, I’ve now caught up and watched all your videos, Benita and now have to wait practically two weeks for your next! Something I’d like to recommend but which comes from the States (I had to get a friend to bring some to me here in Europe) is a make up product called Boom! There are three sticks that are beeswax based, I think. One is clear like lip balm, the other burgundy that you can use as lipstick, blusher and eye colour and a sparkly one that gives a glow. Please try to see a video as I think they may appeal to you, Benita or anyone. They come in white tubes but unfortunately have a bit of a garish logo which could be hidden perhaps. Anyway, many thanks and good luck with the move.
Very inspirational - as always! I am trying to employ the idea of "less but better" - looking forward to seeing more videos about your move! Beautiful photography too!
Was with you for your last move cheering you on watching you select what to keep and let all the rest find new homes was so inspiring. Excited to see your next chapter!
Hello Benita! 😃 I love surfshark - we did sign up awhile ago with one of your previous promo codes :) I enjoy your content very much - in my world of being a 'maximalist' you are definitely an inspiration to becoming a minimalist. I agree 100% what one person considers necessary or useful - someone else may not. I am currently on the road to buying quality - and this is reducing the quantity of items - making me feel better (too much clutter - my brain does not function well). 🌸💮🌸 I just feel so much better mentally when I have finished cleaning - even if I am not there yet with all of my decluttering. ❤ I am looking forward to your move and all of the video content you will be sharing! Enjoy your week! 💗💓💗
I'm a new follower of your channel. Every video I've watched really relaxes me. Your home is lovely and I feel like I can focus my eyes on your spaces and breath. I'm trying to find my happy place with minimalism because I not longer want to live with too much stuff, half of which I don't use. Thank you for being here.
I agree with what you said about holding off on purchasing too much of a cheaper product, rather buy one good quality. I love the store you were shopping in for candle holders, mops, cleaning supplies etc. Is that store available online?
I don’t comment much but I have to say I really love your channel. I saw one of your videos in the suggestions on TH-cam one day and watched it. I was so inspired I went to the beginning of your channel and watched them all! I began my journey of minimalism in March and it really is a process. I donated and gave away many things I hadn’t used in years and it made me feel so much better and almost like a weight had been lifted. I got real about many items I was hanging onto and reduced or got rid of them altogether. Life is so much simpler now as I only replace what I need which saves money and cleaning is a breeze now. I have a question, I visited your Amazon shop but I couldn’t find the gray woolly throws you use for Minnie and Bonus that are on your kitchen chairs and sofa. I think my little dogs would love them. If you could provide a link to them or something similar I would love to get some. Thank you in advance and I look forward seeing new videos.
I have watched both hoarders and minimalist channels as I declutter things around the house. It is true, to each his/her own as to how being a minimalist, it isnt a competition of how less one owns, it is a journey for everyone. I feel i am trying to be a minimalist but still own a lot, but compared to what i and my family have, still needs downsizing with some of the clutter or things we can part with. Hopefully i get to tackle few crates of the things i own and let go.
Benita, I so loved this. There should be no rules in personal downsizing. I, too, embrace a clean, clear environment. Also the white, natural wood, with touch of color it so peaceful.
I really enjoyed this video my dearest Benita, especially the hugs with Mini😻😻!! It's not only about minimalism, it's about seeing things from a different perspective making daily life even better!! Thank you so much for this🤍🤍
I love minimalism....and I am a total maximalist! LOL! I love stuff...but not just any stuff. I love my stuff. I prefer to shop in thrift stores or church basement shops or from my friends' closets! The clothes I have though, I have had for years. I truly find it difficult to shop in stores for brand new things....the cost is high firstly. However, I sometimes like to go shop just to see beautiful things, even if I don't buy them, and it gives me great ideas on how to use what I do have...but that depends on my mood! My goal at this time though, is to start to reduce the amount of stuff that I have and keep only the things that mean something to me or that I just love to see.
Dear Benita! Thx again for an another interesting and informative video🤩 I do agree, most of the items I already have decluttered I don’t miss… when it comes to your move, you will be definitely happy not to pack too many belongings and also another good chance to declutter perhaps even more…and once again love to see how sweet you are with your cats😻hope the will like your new home….. till next time, cheers from Iris
Benita I have really enjoyed your video as always. It is very inspiring. I love watching you snuggle little Mini, I do exactly the same to my cats. xxxx😻
Always happy to stop what I'm doing to watch a new video from you. I love that you said, " what minimalism is to me"...we too need to define what that word means and how to make that process happen. It does look different to all of us. Thx again and I can't wait to see the moving process and the new home you have chosen. Hugs from Florida 💕
I really enjoy your channel. I don't like clutter and whilst I'm not a minimalist, I prefer to keep things simple, clean and look after what I own. Hi from Australia xx
I enjoyed this Benita very eloquently put and I agree with you that our needs and wants differ but the principles are the same if you have a similar definition of what minimalism means to you Once you have done most of your decluttering it gets easier to make the decisions and the more you have decluttered and fine tuned you enjoy the benefits of the space uncluttered and it is an easier way to live especially mentally - it can be empowering
Thank you Benita for this wonderful video. I am glad you talked about minimalism fitting your needs. Your space always looks clean and beautiful. Thank you for the inspiration.
I have been really buying more quality lately. I've figured out my clothing style and dont buy anything for my fantasy self. I love basics but my one thing I love is my earrings by local artists. They don't take up space and I have good variety. Even with those I keep it simple. I want to keep it that way so I don't have to maintain them! I can't wait to see your new place! Marie
You are become a happy Zen person . That is my feeling after follow Fe or almost a decade . I Love how You explain your visión of minimalismus. Always inspirational Benita and I Love that new coat . I saw it a couples of week ago in Amsterdam . Much Love Benita🙌❤️
I love your videos. They are so calm and nice it’s a great way to relax. And you pick such great music for background! Shame you post only every other week, but I understand you need time. Love! ❤
Inspiring. I am stuck on my downsizing from 1 year ago! I have downsized in the past and remember the cleansed feeling I had as a result. This time I have packed away tubs of items but haven't yet passed them on. I haven't used those items so I definitely don't need those items but I like some of those items. Benita is giving me a push to finish the job. I will rewatch several of Benita's YT vids for a bigger push!
Question: If you like a cute vase, do you add it, or plan to pop an old one out of the collection? I cleared out a lot of my items last move, and there are one or two things I miss, but didn't replace. But I have bought clothing items in the last year, and am just going through to get rid of unused clothing items. I am not a minimalist but use many of the rules to help me pare down, and am clearing out again as I go through 2023. Thanks for being online!
I no longer spontaneously buy things. I sleep on it or even think about for weeks or longer. Do I really need it? Do I have something else that does the same thing? Usually after a day I realize I don’t need it. I don’t deprive myself though. If I really feel I need it I will get it but most likely something else will go.
rewatching this, I wonder what is the difference between minimalism and ''Lagom'' for you.. I would like you to explain your view on the Lagom philosophy. I think it would be a very nice subject for a video from a scandinavian.
Benita, you are absolutely right. I am also a minimalist, not extreme but I am a minimalist. I use every thing I have. I watch your every video and can't wait to see your new home. 🤍🤍🤍🤍
The minimalist police aggravate me to no end! Extreme minimalism, where people don’t even have furniture, only have 2 sets of clothes, have 1 fork..1 spoon…1 knife, etc., is a very unrealistic way of living for most people. The air of superiority is revolting. Some people will glom onto a concept out of insecurity, needing a visibly different lifestyle to bolster their self image. A simplified lifestyle makes sense in respect to a concern for the environment….in respect to living a better life/work balance…in respect to stable mental health for some. I will never be extreme in my approach to simplifying my life, but I am also not using a bedroom as a closet anymore either. 🤷🏻♀️. My desire to simplify my home and life is connected to my stage of life and health. I don’t mind sharing that, but it really is no one’s business why or how I do it. To bully Benita is disgraceful.
I like the way you include your sponsor/s in such a natural way in your videos. You are such a professional at what you do. I find myself wondering about surfshark. Do you mean that you don't need a virusprotector like panda or such and only use surfshark instead?

Thanks Benita, I always love your videos.
Different seasons in life - different needs!
thanks for such an inspirational video. Seeing your cats is so endearing. I look forward to your move as I know you have great style and am keen to see how you decorate the new place.
I’m so excited for the move!
Hello Joanna how are you doing today how's everything going?
I'm always so happy to see your vlogs . They are so calming and inspiring ! Have a wonderful day 💕🇨🇦
Thank you so much!
Very inspirational - as always! I am trying to employ the idea of "less but better" - looking forward to seeing more videos about your move! Beautiful photography too!
I’m so excited about the move!
Was with you for your last move cheering you on watching you select what to keep and let all the rest find new homes was so inspiring. Excited to see your next chapter!
There's more to come in the next video!
The stores you were looking at are beautiful, I agree that buying quality items last longer 🌸
I have a few shops that are all in the same area that I visit!
Buying quality makes a big difference!
Benita, Your home is so beautiful. I love the white/grey/natural wood decor. Some people think its boring but it relaxes me. Kind Regards
Such beautiful and relaxing aesthetics! I love that you went to Muji. This is my favorite store for essentials without distracting logos.
Welcome, I'm so glad you enjoy my channel!
Beautiful!!! Good to know how it feels after a while of being minimalist. Blessings
Thank you so much, glad you enjoyed it!
I agree with what you said about holding off on purchasing too much of a cheaper product, rather buy one good quality. I love the store you were shopping in for candle holders, mops, cleaning supplies etc. Is that store available online?
They are several shops but some are just local. Muji has an international online presence though! muji.com
I got them in local shops here in Sweden di o don’t have links unfortunately. Good job on decluttering!
“The things I need, use and love--“ as you stated, is key to happy minimalist living without being overly controlling or rigid in ones own life.....
Yes, thank you so much for watching!
Benita, I so loved this. There should be no rules in personal downsizing. I, too, embrace a clean, clear environment. Also the white, natural wood, with touch of color it so peaceful.
I’m so happy you enjoyed it!
I really enjoyed this video my dearest Benita, especially the hugs with Mini😻😻!! It's not only about minimalism, it's about seeing things from a different perspective making daily life even better!! Thank you so much for this🤍🤍
Thank you so much for watching!
I’ll definitely make another pass while I pack!
Brilliant 👏, never disappointed...well done Benita...greetings from Canada 🇨🇦
Thank you so much!
Benita I have really enjoyed your video as always. It is very inspiring. I love watching you snuggle little Mini, I do exactly the same to my cats. xxxx😻
That bathroom towel is at the perfect level for snuggles 😊
Always happy to stop what I'm doing to watch a new video from you. I love that you said, " what minimalism is to me"...we too need to define what that word means and how to make that process happen. It does look different to all of us.
Thx again and I can't wait to see the moving process and the new home you have chosen. Hugs from Florida 💕
I’m so excited to share more about the move soon!
I think you are one of the best examples of a minimalist I've seen, your way makes a lot of sense to me and inspires me very much 👍🏻
I’m so happy if you feel inspired!
I really enjoy your channel. I don't like clutter and whilst I'm not a minimalist, I prefer to keep things simple, clean and look after what I own. Hi from Australia xx
I'm so glad you enjoy it!
Danke!
Oh wow! My first ever Superthanks! 😘
Thankyou for sharing. All the best with your move. Looking forward to hearing more from you Xx
Decided to become a minimalist using your videos and pointers... Wish me luck 🤞🤞🤞 Sending love to everyone from the Philippines ❤️
I wish I had a friend like you to help me with my house and wardrobe! Glad you have found a happy balance for your life 😀
Nicely said, I appreciate your perspective and continually look for ways to simplify my life.
Glad you enjoyed the video!
I enjoyed this Benita very eloquently put and I agree with you that our needs and wants differ but the principles are the same if you have a similar definition of what minimalism means to you
Once you have done most of your decluttering it gets easier to make the decisions and the more you have decluttered and fine
tuned you enjoy the benefits of the space uncluttered and it is an easier way to live especially mentally - it can be empowering
It can be so empowering!
Tack Benita för all inspiration att "minimera" stöket :) Lycka till med flytten
Tack för att du tittade!
Keep doing what you’re doing. It looks like minimalism to me as I live the same way, same
Thought process
Love the kitties ❤🐈🐈⬛😻
So happy when they’re willing to participate in my videos 😅
looking forward to seeing where you move to! this area where you live seems very nice too but i am sure your next apartment will also be cool!
I'm so excited to move to that side of town!
Thank you Benita for this wonderful video. I am glad you talked about minimalism fitting your needs. Your space always looks clean and beautiful. Thank you for the inspiration.
Thank you so much for watching!
Marie
Not buying for your fantasy self is key! Love the idea of the artisan earrings!
Completely agree. My Minimalism is exactly the same. It's the retaining of things that are used and needed. Not just having it sitting gathering dust!
Dust collections be gone!🙌🏻
Always happy when I see a new video🤍love from🇨🇦
Thank you so much for watching them!
Love the way you dress and your apartment is so calming.
Wise words, charming cats…thank you! 🌻
Thank you so much for watching!
I love your living style and videos! I wait for the next ones. Thanks for the french subtitles!
I’m so happy if the subtitles are helpful!
Äntligen så hoppade jag på Surfshark tåget. Tack för hjälpen!
Så smidigt, och kul!
Love the kitty kisses you gave to Minnie. Will you be taking some of your outdoor plants with you? The hostas you have are fantastic!😊💛
I might divide some hostas and bring a few!
Merci chérie Benita pour les sous-titres, j'apprécie beaucoup 👌💖
I’m so glad you find them useful!
You are become a happy Zen person . That is my feeling after follow Fe or almost a decade . I Love how You explain your visión of minimalismus. Always inspirational Benita and I Love that new coat . I saw it a couples of week ago in Amsterdam .
Much Love Benita🙌❤️
Loving the new coat! Was worried that wind would blow through the stitching but it’s been nice and wind proof!🙌🏻
A great video as usual, thank you. I find the same as you as I get rid of more things the fewer I need 😉
It's fascinating but true!
I love your videos. They are so calm and nice it’s a great way to relax. And you pick such great music for background! Shame you post only every other week, but I understand you need time. Love! ❤
There’s a lot behind the scenes that takes time so that’s why there’s a couple of weeks between them😊
You can do it!
@@BenitaLarsson Thank you! Beginning again or continuation? Both are ok.
Love the fact … you know what works for you and what that looks like for you. 💚💛
Practical tips on minimalism.
I really liked it.
I’m so glad you enjoyed it!
I wish you didn’t have to justify your experience, but I am so grateful for the support and advice that comes because you do ❤
Thank you so much!😊
rewatching this, I wonder what is the difference between minimalism and ''Lagom'' for you.. I would like you to explain your view on the Lagom philosophy. I think it would be a very nice subject for a video from a scandinavian.
Thanks for the suggestion!
I can't wait for your videos!! Love them! Thank you
I'm so glad you like them!
Your approach is perfectly logical and your content is very inspiring. Plus…kitties! 😊
Thanks! Trying to include a Mini and Bonus when they will allow it😅
Benita, you are absolutely right. I am also a minimalist, not extreme but I am a minimalist. I use every thing I have. I watch your every video and can't wait to see your new home. 🤍🤍🤍🤍
Thank you so much for watching them!
Thanks so much for your good advice, Benita.
I understand and appreciate minimalism, but I need color and living plants! Good luck in your new home! 😊
And you can have that in YOUR home 😉
I like the way you include your sponsor/s in such a natural way in your videos. You are such a professional at what you do. I find myself wondering about surfshark. Do you mean that you don't need a virusprotector like panda or such and only use surfshark instead?
I haven’t heard of Panda but with Surfshark One you get everything you need.
Do you expect to replace or reduce any of your furniture items Benita?. I hope you and your mum are both well.
Both! I’ll share more in my next video so stay tuned!
Benita, l think you have a beautiful home, so stylish and it seems to have a warmth about it x
Thank you so much!😊
