  • The histology TMJ in a child differs from that of an adult in so many aspects that’s why in this video the histology for both child and adult will be studied individually.
The two ususual histologic features of the TMJ is that unlike other joints its articular surfaces which are the glenoid fossa of the temporal bone and the condyler head of the mandible are not covered by hyaline cartilage instead they are covered by a fibrous tissue .
Second ususual feature is the presence of a secondary condylar cartilage located deep to the superficial fibrous head of the mandibular condyle until adolescence. And this is the main difference between the condyle of a child and that of an adult.
