In all honesty, I'm falling short of words to describe the contentment I felt after watching these videos. You satiate a learner's curiosity or at least get close to doing so! :p
I am an Alexander Technique teacher and train and certify Alexander Teachers here in the United States. I found you this past year and am so grateful . I teach simple anatomy relevant to our needs as AT Teachers and try to keep things creative, clear and interesting as much as I can . And your teaching style is so fun, rich and illuminating that I have just been sharing them with my class and bouncing into hands on work from them. I truly love how you think and teach. So happy to have access to these lectures . Daria
Greetings from Ontario Canada. Thank you for this detailed lesson on TMJ. One whole month of my life was spent with a semi locked jaw lol. Now I know why. I enjoy your vidios.
Isn't it crazy that we have a joint that hyperexstends and gets out of line and causing a bunch of discomfort. I started to get serious issues in my late 20's after never having issues before. I would have muscle weakness, my jaw popping out, then I had to go to therapy because I got OCD about it and tried to reset it myself and just aggravated it more by manual resetting my jaw. It was no good. But once I got diagnosed with trigeminal neuralgia and ADHD it helped alot so now I am in control of the anxiety it used to give me. I feel bad for anyone dealing with TMD and TMJ disorders.
Wow, thanks, Sam! You really help me synthesise all the information floating around from my textbook, lectures, and practicals. With your videos, i can better understand the why behind the what.
That's the method - study hard first and use videos and other media to fill in the gaps. Most of the studying has to be done by you guys to be effective.
worth to mention that the temporalis muscle also can cause protrusion with it's anterior fibres. and that the lateral pterygoid muscle is divided into a superior part and an inferior part. The superior part pulls on the articulate disc while only the lower part pulls on the madibular process
You are amazing btw. Your videos are well edited and your content is marvolously explained. 😍 I don't think I have need to mention the specimens. If my school had all of this, I'd be ecstatic.
Can the wearing of braces (with expanding of the jaws ) lead to TMJ dysfunction just because TMJ was adapted to the previous bite . Or any other negative effects of orthodontic treatment on that??
Hey Sam, your videos are so informative!!! I wonder if you will answer this question which so far is controversial haha... Since you have such amazing knowledge about facial muscles and all that, I am curious to know what you think. Do you think face yoga / facial exercises help lift the face especially possibly slowing down the effects of ageing eg sagging, jowls all that? Hehe.
Good day Sam If I were to ask you, how do you get rid of a temporalis muscle pain that you have ruptured when you fell, now you struggle to eat open your mouth wide or sideways.
Something in my neck is so tight attached to my collar bone or shoulder or pec or something that it’s pulling my entire left side of my jaw sideways and downward. I have giant popcorn kernel sized knots in my head muscles that I never knew existed. This jaw stuff wouldn’t be described as “clicking”. When I am able to pop it back into place it’s a shockingly loud, violent, painful, intense snap and thud. When I am able to “adjust” it the muscles in the right base of my skull tighten. I can feel fluid popping in my ear like coming off a long flight. I have vertigo. What could be pulling my jaw out of alignment like this? It’s making me nuts. Can’t sleep. Behavior changes. Gotta figure this out.
I really enjoy you video. I will like just to make a contribution. The mandibular disc is a form of fibrous connective tissue not fibrous cartilaginous tissue. Many times the material used for study is an elderly subjects and not young adult material (like the one used at UCLA by William Solberg) Luis
There are actually a number of other muscles of the head innervated by CN v. I certainly don't remember them any more but some are among the upper strap muscles, the tensor tympany and some part or other of the palate. Probably missing some others, too. Not sure about the stapedius.
Other muscles supplied by CN V, tensor veli palatini, tensor tympani, mylohyoid and ant. belly of digastric...(think derivatives of the 1st Pharyngeal arch) ;)
You are a genius, not because u r a good doc but because u make us wanna be good doctors.

Wooow a nice presentation!!! Am happy by your explanation
When your lecture comes to an end...i really feel bad as i felt at the end of my favorite teacher's lecture..

Antony Weber posterior fibers of temporalis protrude the Md not the anterior fibers
Can you do a video on stretching all the muscles of mastication?
You are amazing btw. Your videos are well edited and your content is marvolously explained. 😍 I don't think I have need to mention the specimens. If my school had all of this, I'd be ecstatic.
Again many 🙏thanks Sir Sam for the way of explaining 😊
You are amazing. I appreciate your efforts. Thank you so much.
Fabulous! I love your videos! So informative and useful.
Temporalis masseter and pterygoid are important parts of the Mastication process
Good explanation thank you! I think you did not mention the lateral movement (side to side) of TMJ
Can the wearing of braces (with expanding of the jaws ) lead to TMJ dysfunction just because TMJ was adapted to the previous bite . Or any other negative effects of orthodontic treatment on that??
It really cleared my doubts. Please can u make video on fasciae. It would be so helpful.
First, thank you doctor for this lecture
Second, does anyone know how to make a dynamic label like in the 7:09

CNV3 also innervates tensor veli palatini which is a muscle in the soft palate
you made it so easy to learn 🙏🏻
Which is the muscle that contributes MOST to retraction of the mandible? Is it Masseter or Temporalis?
Wow thanks. Very informative and fun to watch.
Keep up with the great work you are doing 👍🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

You’re great, thank you very much 🙏🌸
Hahaha You are funny! Thanks for the clear explanation! Very helpful! :)
Tensor veli palatine
Tensor tympani
Mylohyoid
Ant belly of diagastric muscles r supplied by trigeminal nerve
Something in my neck is so tight attached to my collar bone or shoulder or pec or something that it’s pulling my entire left side of my jaw sideways and downward. Luis
Luis, cartilaginous tissue is a type of connective tissue
Amazing video!!

I dont think it's the strap muscles coz they r innervated by the branches of ansa cervicalis
You're a great personality
Nice job doc thnx, but lateral ptyregiod is what depress the jaw
Great video! Thank you
Other muscles supplied by CN V, tensor veli palatini, tensor tympani, mylohyoid and ant. belly of digastric...(think derivatives of the 1st Pharyngeal arch) ;)
Is there any pterygoid superior and pterygoid inferior muscles in the body located
Tensor veli palatini, levator veli palatini, stylohyoid and posterior belly of digastric.(maybe)😉😉
Thank you for such goodness
Is the 5th muscle innervated by V3 mylohyoid? (no one in the comments seems to have answered that one)
my one side of joint was cut of in half inch is there still a chance for replacement?
