"The Knowledge" is an underrated video from Rythm Nation. It wasn't a stand alone video, it was part of the Rhythm Nation mini-movie, but it is soo good
Janet Jackson is the BLUEPRINT of all the current singers and no one will be like her she’s LEGENDARY, GOAT and an ICON 👑❤❤❤❤❤ More Janet Jackson PLEASE!!! Guys go watch the documentary ASAP
I come back to this reaction from time to time just because your face when the chair scene starts......it's how we all are even me who can name out every shot in this video cause I've seen it so much lol😅 I forgot if it was mentioned (shoot maybe even by me when it 1st came out), but what I love is for the chair sequence Jam & Lewis went back into the studio to make that extended lil bit there. That's the thing when you listen to Rhythm Nation most especially, almost every song that has a video, the video mix is noticeably different than the version on the album, be it a lil longer or shorter. So it makes both special.
THis video and song is my absolute favorite ffom this album. I used to study this video for hours and days and know every single neck movement, shoulder bounce, knee raise...everything! The slow ballads are awesome too, "Come Back to Me", "Lonely" , "Some Day is Tonight"
2:35 - 2:41 is weirdly my favourite bit in this video - that thing she does with her hands, and the little dance she does afterwards. Can you do that?!
Janet does ALL of her background harmonies and melodies. You should watch her black cat video as well which she was nominated for a Grammy for best Rock song which she wrote the words and music by herself. The Rhythm Nation Album was inducted into The National Recording Registry at the Library of Congress because of its socially conscious content. Janet Jackson is the Blueprint for the female artists of the 80's. 90's and early 2000's. And even today female artists imitate her style.
This Rhythm Nation era is by far one of my favorite albums from her. I would probably watch all the released songs and videos then give a listen to the entire album. It's literally 🔥🔥🔥
I remember getting Rhythm Nation Compilation..the videos...and they showed the making of this...everyones excitement in the background during the chair sequence is real because of how many takes it took to get it right. I adore Janet. I believe 1814 is when the Star Spangled Banner was written.
Famed choreographer Terry Bixler did the chair sequence at the end. The songs, with accompanying videos ("Rhythm Nation," "Escapade," "Alright," "Let's Wait Awhile", "Love Will Never Do (Without You)") are the reason why this was the most successful album of her career. She had more "control" (ironically) over writing and choreography (Paula Abdul choreographed most of her "Control" videos) with this album & this single spent four weeks atop of the Billboard Hot 100 Chart back in late 1989.
After Alright the singles were Black Cat, Come Back To Me, Love Will Never Do Without You and only released as a single in Italy State Of The World. Let's Wait Awhile was a single from her Control album.
Actually, the Janet album that was released after Rhythm Nation was her most successful album. Due to the success of that album she renegotiated her record contract and became the highest paid person in all of music. Surpassing her brothers contract and Madonna’s…
I love this video, I Love you and I am a new subscriber.. I was in the 80s when she came out with this album..Best time ever, I also saw her in concert during this Rhythm Nation tour, it was awesome.. Janet is still awesome.
As Rhythm Nation’s lead single three years after her breakthrough, I’d say this is the single that shares the most with Control’s sound, but there’s a lot more sonic world-building on this album to enjoy. I highly suggest going through all seven top 5 hit singles (a record to this day) and their videos. State of the World was technically an eighth single but not commercially released. Her sound and imagery softens up and changes a lot after this album, too.
For its time, Miss U Much Dance sequence was some of the most intricate dance moves and the video was visually stunning. Still one of my fav dance videos of all time.
Check out the"Rhythm Nation 1814" short film that was released prior to the album, it's a masterpiece on it's own. It believe itwas created as a sort of teaser of what Janet had been upto and her feelings on social issues, I remember it premiering on MTV.
The first meaning of “1814” is that R (Rhythm) is the 18th letter in the alphabet and N (Nation) is the 14th. Hence 1814. The second meaning is pretty awesome as Janet explained, “While writing Rhythm Nation, I was kidding around saying, “God you guys, I feel like this could be the national anthem for the 90’s…Just by a crazy chance we decided to look up when Francis Scott Key wrote the national anthem and it was September 14, 1814.”
It was even more amazing to see her and the same dancers on her 1990 RN tour do the routine live on stage!! And when you hear the a cappella version of this with headphones! Omg amazing.
You could watch them in the order they were released (to this day, Rhythm Nation remains the ONLY album in history with seven top five hits - and an eighth hit the top five on radio play alone, but wasn't released as an official single, so cannot precisely be included in that count): Miss You Much, Rhythm Nation, Escapade, Alright, Come Back to Me, Black Cat, and Love Will Never Do (Without You)
Firstly, let me mention, ur reactions are awesome. Very honest. Luv that ur discovering the artistry of Janet Jackson. With that, I do have to say, you missed a complete gem of a video on the Control album. "The Pleasure Principle" Add it to your return list lol. The video is classic! Regarding Rhythm Nation; an awesome and musically historic album. And like folks in the comments suggest, check out her vids for these. They are all great. But I'd have to say my top ones and suggestions for you are: Rhythm Nation: The message alone is historic. She talks of race, education, drugs and coming together as humans to make change. Video is even more iconic. This song has been entered into National Recording Registry by the Library of Congress. Noted in 2021 as one of the 25 recordings of audio treasures worthy of preservation for all time based on their cultural, historical or aesthetic importance in the nation’s recorded sound heritage. Love Will Never Do Without You: Shot by famed fashion director Herb Ritts. It's like a pictorial come to life. Beautiful cinematography. Every shot is a photo. And her vocals are different on this one. She sings in a lower octave. Very deep. At first. As history goes, this song was meant for her and Prince. She sung Prince's part in a deep voice for the demo and Jam & Lewis decided to just go with Janet's vocals. It shows she has lots of range. This also ushers in her era of softness. A more sexual side. Come Back To Me: Melody, Melody, Melody. Her voice is so melodic on this track. She does her own background vocals and here its' showcased like never before. The video backdrop is in Paris and it's just "chef's kiss"!
Amazing post and thank you so much! I'm still working out exactly how to approach this album but you will be seeing more Janet reactions from me very soon!
Probably Janet's best song and video. "Love Will Never Do" (from the same album) comes close, tho. I would definitely recommend that one. The video for "Alright" is another masterpiece.
Since u love dance routines u should definitely check out Janet’s song n video “Alright” it’s an amazing video and fun song. An homage to old school greats like Cab Calloway
This album is amazing from start to finish and Miss you much was a great way to introduce the album. If im not mistaken, Janet made dancing with chairs an "in" thing that was then followed by other artists. Love will never do, come back to me, black cat, rhythm nation are a must to listen to. Just thr harmonies on come back to me are another level that no other artists has topped.
Not all of the songs from Rhythm Nation will have an accompanying video, but I suggest watching the video if there is one, as she was quite the innovative video artist and dancer. So excited for you to react to this album. Can't wait! Also, if you ever get around to watching the video for Pleasure Principle, I think you'll really appreciate it. Just Janet by herself in a big warehouse dancing her butt off. 😁
Since you are into jazz and things like that you will like Anita Baker her whole Rapture album was everything so in 86-89 at the awards show It was Whitney Houston, Janet Jackson and Anita Baker, Whitney would in best female , or best pop artists, janet best choreography, best video, R&B single, Anita best r&b /soul female artists, best soul female artists. This period is when the AMA awards and the Grammy's were the best ever.
The chair sequence was choreographed by the dude on Janet Jackson's left during the chair sequence. I think hos na.e is Bill Bixby. The overall video was choreographed btmy the suoer tall Black dude in the video & I forget his name.
While you are checking out her older stuff, dip into some 'newer' stuff (5 years old), she did an amazing video single, not on any album, called *Made For Now* check that video out, so amazing, so feel good, so uplifting
I don't know how I miss this video from you but can I tell you I love you more and more everyday. When it started I thought you were a little cranky, I didn't get your affect but you have become my favorite TH-camr. Do you remember when I requested Celine Dion and you like well I don't like her music more or less and I was like who the hell is this guy.😅😅 I think you're awesome. Can you review the song Janet Jackson what about it's about her own personal life it's very intense. She did a version at the VH1 fashion awards,
Please react to Love Will Never Do. The whole Rhythm Nation was hard beats, dark clothes, militaristic styles. Love Will Never Do was like her second transition. The visuals were such a contrast. She was never more beautiful.
I'm still trying to figure out what part of California you're from because I am born and raised in San Francisco and I can only think that you're maybe from Santa Ana or San Diego 💗
If you don't want to listen to the whole album (which you should, it's amazing), I'd recommend watching the videos in order of release. Next is "Rhythm Nation" which is an AMAZING video with some of the tightest choreography ever.
There are plenty of fine dancers in music, but there’s a precision and polish to the Jacksons that could only be matched by Paula Abdul (a renowned choreographer). Also, this album is DEFINITELY worth a full reaction.
Random fact. She was actually rushed to the hospital after spending nearly a day straight filming the chair sequence, due to exhaustion and dehydration but luckily was released quickly after some Iv fluids and rest.
Madonna will always be my #1, but Janet is a VERY close second. She didn’t have a bad video from the albums Control through Velvet Rope. Other commenters mentioned the great videos from Rhythm Nation, so I would check those out! It’s a shame her TH-cam channel hasn’t properly curated her videos, because her video catalog is an A+

It must have been so intimidating for someone to audition to be a back-up dancer for Janet or Michael Jackson because, unlike with other singers / entertainers, you know these megastars can dance as good as or even better than you. 😀Not to mention the very high standard I suspect that Janet and Michael demand(ed) from their fellow stage performers.
Ok you have to be a young person other wise you must have been living under a rock!! That is still one of the most iconic albums of all time and still the only album to this day that produced 7 top ten singles. Beating out her brother Michael's record.
I'm 42 and I used to love Michael Jackson when I was a kid - I've got literally no excuse! All I'll say is: in my life, no one has ever told me I should listen to Janet Jackson and none of the music magazines I read ever mentioned her. I know I should have been more curious, but 35 years late is better than not at all!
"The Knowledge" is an underrated video from Rythm Nation. It wasn't a stand alone video, it was part of the Rhythm Nation mini-movie, but it is soo good
“Alright” video from Rhythm Nation is awesome. You’ll love it :)
Janet Jackson is the BLUEPRINT of all the current singers and no one will be like her she’s LEGENDARY, GOAT and an ICON 👑❤❤❤❤❤
More Janet Jackson PLEASE!!!
Guys go watch the documentary ASAP
Love your reviews with the recaps of your favorite parts!!!
This album here you can just put on and sit back and it'll do it's magic
Even as a kid in high school i still get chills watching this.

Great to see you react to my Idol Janet, ''Miss Jackson it you're nasty ! She was one of the artists who got me through the eighties/nineties.

I love Janet Jackson best Snake Moves dancer of all times.

I loved your reaction to this video, I don’t know why most platforms edit out the chair routine, that’s part of what makes the video a Great video.
Production of Jam and Lewis!
Incredible!!’
I'm so glad to see someone do the extended version with the chair routine, that's one of the best parts. ❤️
Icon. Period.

Great reaction been waiting forever for someone to find this omg thank you!!!
OK, Christmas is over - back to our regular scheduled programming!
Omg I just commented that last night. Now that Mariah Carey season is over let's continue with our regular season programming
Thank You, I enjoyed it.

We got still love for Janet Jackson the Goat of all times.
React to more Janet
You should react to Janet’s Love Will Never Do (Without You) from the same album. Amazing song
Living Legend!!
NOBODY could out dance Janet--and that includes Michael. The amazing thing about this video is the "chair" sequence was completed in ONE TAKE!!
You should absolutely watch IF , especially That's the way love goes/If from the 93 MTV video music awards.
The first meaning of “1814” is that R (Rhythm) is the 18th letter in the alphabet and N (Nation) is the 14th. Hence 1814. The second meaning is pretty awesome as Janet explained,

The videos titled “ Alright “ and “ Rhythm Nation “ are her most iconic dance videos in my opinion … she was like the female MJ
It was even more amazing to see her and the same dancers on her 1990 RN tour do the routine live on stage!! And when you hear the a cappella version of this with headphones! Omg amazing.

Regarding Rhythm Nation; an awesome and musically historic album. And like folks in the comments suggest, check out her vids for these. They are all great. But I'd have to say my top ones and suggestions for you are:
