I was barely old enough to drive when I saw a Phoenix Yellow Type R at my local Acura dealer. $24k was a bit out of my reach as a teen back then. Today I own a DE5 Type S, and I am grateful for all the comforts that don't make it a Type R. I have never enjoyed the daily drive more in any other car. And in another 20 years when your ElonBot is driving you around, people will swoon over the Type S for all the reasons that make it a great, fun car today.
I bought a Phoenix Yellow Integra Type-R 25 years ago. Loved that car and I regret getting rid of it. I was looking at the Integra Type-S but ended up with a 24' Civic Type-R because I wanted something as close to my old car. No regrets
Complaining that it's not the DC2, too expensive, too soft or doesn't come in Phoenix Yellow is completely forgetting that enthusiast cars like it are the last of their kind. Be glad they exist at all. Hell, anything with 3 pedals feels like a future classic now. I expect the DE5 will hold it's value well into the future despite any perceived shortcomings.
God that ITR sounds great! It's absolutely though in the way it feels. I've been around a euro DC2 I wanted to buy and even if that was a beat one, the seats were among the best I've ever sat in and so was the shifter and so was the engine. It all felt magical. There was an aura about that car, I could only hope to own one some day.
Spec sheet might be decent, but the new Type S and the Civic Type R just look like any other generic Honda family car, and not in a fun sleeper kind of way like Volvo gets away with. Integras used to LOOK like attainable, fun, well sized, 2 door cars, ..now they're just chunky, heavy, forgettable family sedans and Hondas entire lineup looks as generic as possible, all looking damn near the same, and all super boring and chunky.
RSX-S 1 year later was a better overall package. The interior blew the Type R out of the water and the performance was close enough (faster in a straight line for sure).

Not offering Phoenix Yellow as a standard color option for the new Type-R/S is such a miss.

I owned one for 17 years as a daily driver, it was ok, I really think they are over rated. My ND2 MX5 is a faster better car.

No one remembers the Type R as an overall package though. Its legendary status is because of its rawness and pure driving engagement.
Type R will age better for sure.
Acura… eh.
Mixed feeling's but good video of two awesome vehicle's.
Just gimmie the old one
If you're talking about the dude, I agree
People bashing the de5.
Wait until the replacement arrives.
Hybrid+eCVT 😂
Bet my 2011 fiat punto diesel is better
Maybe!
The new one is ugly and bloated and has too many doors. I want to walk away from my car when I park it and get butterflies.. type R by a light year
Yea all cars are bigger and heavier.
But the ITS very light compared to cars out now.
Style is subjective. Imagine believing someone is wrong for liking chocolate because you like vanilla.
Boooooooo!
