To the city government of Pigeon Forge, I live not far from your little tourist town and have spent a fair sum of money there over the years with friends and family. That ENDS NOW if you, the mayor and the city don’t repay this family for not only the full cost of that home plus the huge market value increase we’ve seen the past few years but for their time and reno cost that YOU Mr. Mayor sat on your deck and watched happen. You can sit back all you want and claim you had “no moral obligation” to tell them of the eminent domain swooping down upon these good and fine people but We the People know better. You sir are a lowlife degenerate by your actions, or lack thereof in this regard. Time to repent and do the Right thing. And God decides morals Mr. Mayor, not you. And he’s watching. The city has the money so that’s not an issue. Right your wrong and pay these people what you knowingly took from them plus their time and effort. And pray you still have a JOB come election time. Once this story gets out, and it will, if you haven’t fully rectified this wrong-doing, the good people of Pigeon Forge will unanimously vote you out of office.

The inference being that it is you who had unreasonable expectations, he did nothing slipshod or on the cheap to put more money in his own pocket. Hey I can promise you Mr. Wear doesn't care one bit. He also built a house off Cole St. In Pigeon Forge and ran his driveway straight through my grandparents land without hesitation and never said a word to them. Literally directly up the middle of the land to build his house. My grandparents took him to court and since he is who he is the courts kept putting it off for over I'm guessing 15 years or more until my grandparents both passed away. Now my aunt has the property and there still fighting. So seen him first hand take away what someone else has owned. You guys will be in my prayers. Really hope everything works out for yall. I feel so sorry for you being in this situation. I know how you feel because I am going through the same thing in Kentucky. Judge executive, Magistrate and State Senator lied to me and kept a new road a secret until it was too late. Now it is dividing my farm. They have no conscience about it. My dad has been trying for seven years to get the case heard and they keep continuing the case in court. He goes again in April, we’ll see if it gets continued again. So, what I would ask the neighbour? Did she get a letter indicating the road change, does she have the letter, will she share it?? IF the letter was sent out BEFORE you bought that house, indicating the change of road, then you have a case to sue the former homeowner, and the realtor (maybe both if you had your own). You (being from out of state), having no prior knowledge of the inner machinations of the town, were prime targets to be defrauded of not only your money, but your time! Yes, they had the right of “imminent domain”, but if it was used fraudulently, with collusion, to enrich some people, then that’s another story. And I would pursue that to the end. This group needs to be criminally charged if that’s the case. Finding a district attorney,to take and pursue the case, is another story. Sadly. We’re praying for you in Central Kentucky!!

Sounds like a candidate for a law suit. If the previous owners, the realtor that sold it to you, and any others in the loop knew about this - and it would seem obvious that they did - you should at least be able to re-coup your losses, including everything you put into this place. It's called Full Disclosure. So sorry this happened to you, and I hope you have hired an attorney and in your suit, make sure to ask for attorney's fees to be included. It seems to me the sale should have been stopped before ever going on the market. At the very least, the neighbors, including the Mayor, should have told you about it before you started all that work.

We used to live in Tennessee, and a lot of real estate agents are really shady there… our real estate agent sold us a house that was structurally not right the supporting columns did not line up with the upstairs loadbearing wall and a foot away from it… no one caught it….
We did and asked why the floor dipped down in the living room…. We chose the inspector that our realtor suggested.- please never do that!
There was also structural issues with the carport and the roof dipped down where the carport and the house met…. And also, there was no separation between the ceiling of the carport and the rest of the house, that is illegal and has to be close off to keep animals out of the house….
There was also major leakage with the chimney because there was no flashing around it, and it was such a gap. You could see daylight if you went into the roof. The inspector told us before he went into the roof. He would meet us when you were done. We were young and stupid and left… he was not even behind us. He must’ve left right after us because he was a minute behind us.
We were young and stupid and didn’t challenge him ….
There was a 1 inch plus hole in the roof chimney and the roof because no one put flashing …
So anytime it rained water all the way down to the basement because the chimney went through a wall to my kids bedroom and was for heating the basement with a stove …
We were so pissed, but there was no way to go after them….
We had to fix most of the problems ….
We couldn’t afford to fix a few things, but the stupid lady at our house so bad she wouldn’t listen to us about the things she needs to fix and she just signed off on the inspection report with no repairs….
So when we sold, we lucked out, but we were so worried most the time we lived there .
Tennessee legislature in the state level needs to deal with this and local communities people over with real estate…

They were quite pleased, I bet, to get an unknowing out-of-towner's interest. The homeowner dropped it like a hot potato for the next guy to take the loss! I'd definitely be suing the home owner AND the realtor, and perhaps the mayor for admitted nonfeasance! Get an Ohio attorney. The Previous Homeowner and Realtor are on the hook… you need to find out what they knew before you bought it. Sounds like they knew… and didn’t disclose which is against the law… the city should give you “fair market value” for your property… which is based on tax assessments it will definitely be less than what you paid, but something nonetheless. You need to file case against the realtor, previous homeowner and city…. things will come out in court on who did what… and if and money from the contractor was paid to the city as hush/blind approval for the project… real shady things going on…

Its no damn different than Myrtle beach S 10:52 C. All shops sell same t shirts, hermit crabs and shot glasses .
And the same tasteless sea food.

We had boycotted the entire area and no longer consider it as a destination.

Look into the cost of physically moving the house. It may be possible. I’ve seen giant Victorian homes moved several blocks. Then you can still have your home, albeit on a different piece of land, but you could be able to recoup all that you have put into it remodeling-wise.

I imagine that they decided that the private home owners wouldn’t want to be right next to the highway anymore than they’d want to be flattened by it, and out of a house? A camp ground is pretty much the only occupied space that can be near major roadways and not see any loss of property value. Who knows. Perhaps the people behind the highway planning committee also own the campground, and saw an opportunity to expand even more.

That was 12 years ago, I have since moved far away from any hwy thru fares, right next to the Croatian National Forest. They gave me 96 thousand for it. My neighbors next door to me got 125 thousand and had half the land. they are corrupt and do what ever they like and you have no choice in the matter. I think you may have answered your own question. Unfortunately your home will only hold a small family as opposed to the campground potentially having 100+ visitors every few days in a city that's continues to speak on how much of a need they have for keeping up with the number of visitors they see daily. Places like this especially that close to the main part of town doesn't want home owners they want facilities that can turn over high numbers of people daily. Obviously none of it is right but buying a home that close to a continued

To an area that's continuously growing and meant for visitors and constant overturning of people I would be so terrified that this would happen at any time unless I was gambling on the fact that this actually would happen and I would be bought out. However even being bought out is very misleading and any research will show that they will offer u ridiculous amounts of money and they technically only have to give you an offer so many times and if you still don't accept it they will take it from you and pay u the original amount they 1st offered to you.

SO many critical details left out! This family should be paid the purchase price of the property, all improvement costs and all carrying costs. It sounds like they found a smokin' deal (from a shady seller) and expected to make a fortune as development grew into them. They made a point of calling it an "investment" and showing how much more valuable it was going to become. Sounds like they're expecting 10x payment from the city because they're entitled to they're smokin' deal that the shady seller conned them into. It would be common courtesy for anyone seeing that work going on to at least mention the eminent domain proceedings! I imagine the local government is overwhelmed by the rapid development and just handled the situation poorly and untimely. They should have a "corridor protection" policy that prohibits any development or improvements in areas they intend to build roads through. If the owners didn't get reimbursed for ALL of their actual investment, then that is wrong. If they didn't get paid for future expectations, that's just not how it works.
