Pigeon Forge is just a big tourist trap, the area has lost its beauty to over commercialization.
True
I used to love going there. Haven't been back since '05. With all of the over commercialization it has lost it's appeal. And with all of the massive crowds with bad attitudes all of the local workers have lost their "Country Charm" (can't blame them).
I watch EA constantly and every time I remind myself to not come back.
I'm a lifelong resident of that area & I càn't believe the amount of year round visitors it seems like there's no longer an off season 😢
It’s the asshole of the smokies
If there is a ban there will be a huge loss in revenue
It’s my personal opinion they are wanting to push the Rod Run out completely. It’s the younger people coming up there with the jacked up diesel trucks causing the problems. It’s just like with the gun issue, don’t punish the criminal take guns from everyone. Instead of doing something about the big diesel trucks, they’ll just ruin it for everyone.
The diesel truck shows are taking place in the city of Sevierville. Thats where the slammedenough car show was at also. When the shows are over at night . Sevierville has the money from the main events , but they all migrate to Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg . Leaving the other towns to have to deal with the aftermath.
I’m a truck fan BUT not for useless “diesel “ crap
This video is to much of a “cheby “ -hit show or gM disaster..yikes
It only takes a few idiots to ruin everything and the community should look at the fools that are ruining the get togethers no matter what kind instead of blaming the police and the cities for trying to deal with them . Big trucks burning coal is one of the most obnoxious things in public 🫢😷🤢🤮
They pushed it out of Gatlinburg first. My suspicion is that Townsend is next.
Rod Run is not the issue...it's the truck show same weekend.
That's where they should direct their attention
Maybe?!
True
Yea the big gay trucks can fuck off
I do believe the younger demographic is the reason why the crime has increased as I know someone who goes every year and they go just as much for the drinking and partying as they do for the rods. It seems like people are seeing the srping Rod Ron as a spring break destination to party rather than an annual tradition for hot rod enthusiasts.
I think your right. And you know, parenting and teaching your kids how to behave in public, so they know better when they become young adults going to these events. Is elusive nowadays.
@@KenKen-ui4ny The crazy thing is the person I was talking about knowing who goes every year is in their late 30s-early 40s and have kids of their own and still act like kids themselves.
It's the somewhat recent push of "diversity" in the area that has blown up the crime there. Their "protest" of everything white let's them get away with everything
A perfect example of a law looking for a purpose
Isn’t that what every older generation says about the younger generation? I mean, if you look back on early hot rodders, with their greased up hair, and rebel without a cause jackets, they thought those were hoodlum criminals. “Darn kids today! No respect!” Like they didn’t smoke and get plastered drunk when they were young. Oh, but “it was legal in my day.” Not realizing that they were the reason they had to outlaw it in the first place.
The state just can't help itself. I'm glad the state has nothing better to do. How about addressing the crime in Memphis and Nashville instead of worrying about someone selling a car. Smdh
No. Now let them turn your kid into a gay communist.
Or TDOT actually fix the roads and repave them instead? They have enough potholes between Chattanooga and KY through Nashville to keep them busy for many years. I mean, is that not the main purpose of TDOT, to maintain the roads in the state? lol
@@boxcrashmfg9420 but Ukraine and South American illegals need that cash, bro!
When the governance turns on the people who gave them control is always the funniest part of facism.
"Why not do something about Memphis and Nashville crime"....
Crime makes them money.
@@SMXJH you are correct, the police chief in memphis came out a few months ago and said Memphis was lost, and it would take the National guard to get it back. that's what he said.
We plan our vacation to avoid this área during special event times. The Rod Run is a great event. The lawlessness should not be tolerated . Hoodlums need to stay away.
So you don't have crime any other time of year ? Lol
@mariehorton7924 Of course there's always crime, but why should the town invite a certain criminal element to create even more crime?
No
"Hoodlums "
@@newriverratsam Hoodies
The problem that needs addressing is the young thug truck show that takes over and ends up bass blasting and people fighting, tanked up on all that free liquor they give away . The liquor alone is a huge part of the problem.
It devolved into a bunch of rdnk thugs lookin for fights.
Part of your statement is right. It is not the Liquor all together, People will bring it with them regardless.
Is absolutely right that's what's ruined it for fucking everybody
@missybrook I bet you're a jailbird.
@@markferguson5652 Nope! Never been 🤣
@@missybrock wanna hookup sometime? Be there in April
I took my family once. I will never go again. It just got outta control. Drugs an alcoholic beverages are not what I wanted my family to see. So now I just don't go or buy anymore. I am and my wife n children are as well , Christians.
As a resident of the area I can say that a large number of people dread both the spring and fall shows. The place I work will loose 50% of normal business because people can’t get in a find a place to park. Getting to work and back home is just ridiculous. As someone else has said it’s the truck crowd that have caused most of the problems. I try to 8:16 stay home as much as possible to avoid the mess.
And that sounds like it's more a hindrance to the local revenue instead of an increase. Only makes sense...if you have less parking you have less revenue
Me and the wife got to pigeon forge every year. Last year we went during the fall show. It was cool seeing the cars, but we were not able to park anywhere to go to the shops and places we normally would.
Oh b.s, these shows bring in millions without tourist the area will be poor.
@mays9185 I don't think you get it. If tourist can't park because all these other vehicles and their owners are just parked and sitting in front of their cars...those businesses don't make that much money
The old Rod and Custom show in Lincoln, Ne was killed by the end of the magazine.
Then memorial event held every year started running into issues in Lincoln Nebraska due to younger kids thinking it was ok for their shitbox to be raced around pulling sideshow BS.
A few years back, a kid in a sho Taurus blasted an intersection at 75-85mph, hit a car turning into the intersection.
He killed the two girls in that car, and his sho Taurus was sent into a crowd watching the cars cruising the Main Street for people cruising lawfully.
Hurt another 15 people and killed a kid.
It’s stupidity like that that is killing the automotive culture.
There's alway's someone somewhere that wants to mess everything up for everyone.
We have been there during the rod run, and there's absolutely no parking at the places of business, which sucks,im.a car guy and absolutely enjoy seeing all the vehicle's hopefully they can get a place large enough for all the people that want to show off there vehicle's
We have been going to the Rod Runs for years. This is ridiculous. No different than a Property owners placing a political sign in their yard or a business sign, having a garage sale, etc. People who rent Hotel Rooms are just like people who rent homes. The homes are theirs. Why should any agreement override such. I personally think it's terrible. I feel for the Officers who might have to deal with this as well. You guys do a good job on this !! The only losers are the Cities and the State from lost revenue. We hope this can continue as always
It truly is about 'too many people having too much fun'. When big brother sees that, its time to put a stop to it. Get home, get to work, pay those taxes.
@funone8716 It's about too many people, getting too drunk and causing too much trouble.
Demonrats new agenda
It took me almost 2 hours to get from Popeyes to the Christmas Place. Thank God I didn’t have an emergency situation. That’s the biggest problem. “0” traffic control.
The issue of traffic flow is a constant problem for Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg... only one main road to get in and get out. Doesn't matter the event; if the event or season (i.e. fall or Christmas) has a large draw the traffic is a complete cluster and you should plan a picnic meal because you're going to be there for a while. Personally we avoid PG and Gatlinburg as it's been over developed without improving the road entry/exit avenues to the towns.
The traffic is terrible during rod run. Pedestrians trying to cross the street are in constant danger. It doesn't help when half of the crowd wants to "cruise". Trying to get to that restaurant on one end from your hotel at the other is ridiculous.
Apparently, TDOT and city management don't understand how much tourism money these car shows generate. These "rod runs" have been ongoing since I was a young man during the 1970s, and in recent years there have been Jeep weekends.
The businesses are not advertising vehicles for sale, thus there is no violation of the lease agreement. TDOT is attempting to violate the 1st Amendment by prohibiting car owners from placing For Sale signs in their vehicles. Whether these signs are only visible when the vehicles are driving on the roads or when parked, the owner of a vehicle has the right to display such a notice.
We have been attending the rod runs for years and it has been the last few years that we have noticed a certain age group with squatted trucks that tend to take over on Friday and Sat nights that has been an issue. I know some events ban these vehicles from there events. I personally would think it would help.perhaps they could have a different weekend for that group....and go back a few years ago the way the rod run was....also I feel like since the pandemic it has been crazy busy😊 thanks for sharing
You hit the nail on the head. These young kids with too much money that act like idiots flipping people off and acting like a fool, they’re the real problem. If people stop coming to these shows see how long the eateries and hotels will like losing all the money those two weeks bring in, not to mention the Spring Rod Run, The Grand National F100 Show, etc.
True. But for some reason they're going after the people with show cars that are sitting on display???? Kids coming out at night is where they should be looking.
Do you all realize the percentages we are talking about in this situation? It's less than one half percent of people who attend receive a citation and less than one quarter of a percent go to jail, hardly the wild West! Then there's the question of why you're so deep in people you know business? That in it self says so much about the type of person you are and without question someone always judging and looking down on others! Here's a simple solution, just keep yourself at home and then you don't need worry about it and besides nobody there would want some hall monitor present who only came to see off they knew Anyone so they can talk about them
I agree as a lifelong resident and car show lover. This has been the ongoing problem for a while.
@@larrywilson7933 from a former participant in car shows, I wouldn't care if the two cities shut it all down. Well, I guess Gatlinburg did years ago along with Myrtle Beach. The towns would survive with just regular tourists filling the cash registers.
Never trust the person that steps in front of you and says, "I am from your GOVERNMENT AND I'M HERE TO HELP YOU!" At that point, RUN!!
All those complaining about it, there is a simple solution. DON’T GO DURING THAT TIME! You are very capable of looking up what’s going on at any time in the area on numerous websites. I plan my vacation around what I want and don’t want to see.
You have to understand the area is not just tourists, there are nearly 30 thousand people actually living in the area too from sevierville all the way down to gatlinburg, the same people that help run all the attractions, restaurants, shops and so much more that you enjoy while in town. These laws are made not to ruin people's fun and tradition but to keep living a daily life in the area possible for people who cant avoid these events.
There's so many its hard to find a time that there isnt a car show of some mind.😊
People visit for vacation
@FountainChannel you knew what you were getting into when you decided to live there. Every part of that area has been driven by your elected officials to be tourist dollar driven.
@ironyironic they also like to take these tourist dollars. This area has been driven by the elected officials to be tourist dollar driven. Don't like what it's turned into? Vote differently. And my comment is not pointing at one side or the other of the political aisle, I honestly don't know or don't care about the politics of the area.
We honeymooned in TN during a similar event. Didnt know they did such a thing. It was awesome to see all the cars lining the road and was a for sure highlight. Allkw the run, put in strong rules of behavior, and vigorously enforce those rules so the normal, peaceful people can enjoy these awesome experiences
Great video man several great events are feeling the same pressures
Well done, Eric! Awesome job of reporting on the rod run. I do get frustrated trying to go up or down the strip with all the cars there ... BUT ... it's not about me! This is great for Smoky Mountain/Pigeon Forge tourism; brings lots of money to hotels/motels, restaurants and local businesses; and, it's just plain clean fun! Selling cars on the strip is no different than selling tickets to shows or anything else on the strip. Nothing wrong with what's going on ... let the Rod Run, RUN!!! Vrooom, Vrooom!!!
Drove down to the show last year from northern Indiana. Won’t be going back. Didn’t mind the cars for sale so much as the ones for sale for $2500. Just junk parked and taking up space for the nicer cars. Just my take on it.
Come on down to Crusin the Coast in Mississippi. We have fun
@@SouthernLady70 have considered coming down there several times
@@mikeburnett7028 You should. Btw we have people who bring junk and absolutely love it. We have swap meet for 3 days and never know what you will find. if you think people shouldnt have junk maybe go to Big car auctions that sell for millions. You are in wrong place.
ONE MANS JUNK IS ANOTHER MANS TREASURE, PEOPLE THAT BUYS THOSE SO CALLED $2500 JUNK CARS BUY THEM TO MAKE THEM NICE SHOW QUALITY SHOW CARS OR TO RESTORE THEM SO AS THEY CAN COME BACK IN THE FUTURE TO SHOW WHAT THEY HAD BOUGHT PREVIOUSLY SO AS TO SHOW WHAT THEY PAIN STAKENLY REVIVED. WHERE DO YOU THINK THOSE NICER CARS CAME FROM WALMART?

Sounds like a solution seeking a problem.
They should focus on safety and let people enjoy themselves.
We have been to the Rod shows since 1992, missed only 1 bc we had twins! I have always loved it there w/ or w/ o the Rod Run! I just wish it could go back to the time when it was more about having nice, CLEAN fun while enjoying the cars! It's not as much now bc of the bead stuff; I wish something could be done about that! I don't believe most ppl like that part of it! I could bring my sons there b4 & not worry, but now it is way out of control! I love it there, just wish that filthy part would go back where it came from!
You're obviously too young to remember when tourism would only support most jobs in Sevier County for six months of the year. There was a time when rod runs were welcomed because they helped to drive tourism during the off season, and that extended people's employment.

I was there on vacation in the fall of 23, to my surprise the rod run was going, we had a great time looking at all the hot rods.
Rumor has it that they are going to start raising prices for hotels and restaurants to deter so many people from coming. I know the locals don't care for it, no matter how much money it brings in.
Im a parcel courier in Knoxville, and my station caters services to the kodak and seveir county areas, including pigeon forge and Gatlinburg. This route came open once and it was offered to me, but i flat out said NO, and need i mention why? Tourists (thanks to G.P.S.) have discovered all the back roads to get around places making it an even BIGGER headache, so extra money was by FARRRRRR an incentive to put up with this mess. I dont even go up there when theres NOT a car show. Just WAYYYYY too much traffic and commercialism, but wait. The casinos are soon coming. Been saying it for years.
We took our kids during the day and the people are so friendly, they allow you to look and we make sure the kids do not touch the cars. As far as for sale signs, Every Rod Run has many cars for sale but they ask so much, they would be crazy not to take the money and run. I don't go to buy, but I go to see the cars and get good ideas for my own projects. Every time government gets involved with anything profitable, or fun, it becomes less of both.
The Rod Runs have been THE event of our year, as we have always celebrated our wedding anniversary which falls in line with it every year the last 15 years. We could celebrate it anywhere but we choose to do it there for a number of reasons. We have never went to the center. We have always just enjoyed getting out walking and viewing the cars ourselves with the convenience to shop and eat along the way. I agree with a few of the other comments that its definitely changed over the years. The younger generation is definitely more noticeable. We've always enjoyed that swap meet atmosphere. We've enjoyed countless conversations with owners over the time and energy put into their classics. Weve enjoyed year after year seeing new classics and finding project cars we share interests in. The shift in that atmosphere, however it started, has went from that to more of a party feel after the sun goes down. Im not a huge fan of being challenged by kids my own kids ages to lift my shirt or being gropped while walking around by inebriated individuals my kids age. But i deal with it as it happens and move on. Id love more than anything to see it get back to what it was 20 years ago but there are alot of issues more pressing that needs addressed than the vehicles lining the patkway for sale. I know the locals have valid concerns and i totally understand. Im just not sure it would be beneficial for the event itself to be strictly confined to the LeConte Center. Alot of people wouldnt want to pay the price. Like us, they would be less pursuaded to attend there not having the ability to shop or have lunch or dinner in a sit down resteraunt. We enjoy the overall experience of shopping, seeing all the amazing classic cars, looking for a deal on a project car we have in mind, socializing with other enthusiasts however long we want to, and having the ability to be out walking the strip an entire day if we want to without having to break it down. I feel like its just part of the experience and has been since weve been going and would hate to see that end. There are solutions to accommodate everyone from the car sellers to the locals. It takes sitting down and brainstorming ideas to get to that, which doesnt seem to happen.
There is no harm in selling a car along 441. Leave those people alone. We had our honeymoon on the same week of the Rod Run and it was one of the best times of my life.
Thanks for the update. No effect for our trip.
Thanks for the update, keep them coming.
The truth is, the small business owners, employees and other locals have grown to hate the event in recent years. They don't have to have it for revenue. The GB/PF area will still be packed those weeks even if Rod Run disappeared forever. The participants don't spend as much money and take up valuable parking space that could be used by customers wanting to actually spend money in their businesses. Employees at these businesses continually make it known that they get treated more poorly by customers during these two events than any other time of the year. Honestly, on a local scale, the only people that want it to stay are the major cooperations and the out of town people that own short term rentals (airbnb). Neither of which have to actually deal with anything going on down there personally.
There should be no reason people cant buy/sell/trade. Its public commerce. Theres no harm done in that. However, the issue at hand is the idiots with the squatted trucks, and diesels rolling coal whenever they get a chance for no reason. These same class of people are the reason for your heightened crime rate as well.
how does a teen afford to buy a 100 thousand dollar truck and spend 50 grand to customize it anyway, I've been working all my life and still can't do that.
@@eddiehiott8330 They're fake wannabe rednecks with Daddy's money and no common sense. I say this as a 26 year old. Squatted trucks are so dumb looking.
Thanks for posting this it was helpful keep up the good work love your site .
Same thing has happened in Myrtle Beach. The city hosts several motor vehicle events. Mustang week, Jeep week, muscle car week and several motorcycle events. ALL of which have grown in size and frequency. It's mostly controlled pretty good, but we have a few events that bring younger crowds and roudiness.
The first Rod Run was in 1979 in Gatlinburg. It was mostly quite with a few drunks. Highway patrol came out at midnight and said we're shutting it down. About that time state troopers started coming out of all the side streets and Yes it was shut down. I don't remember when it moved to Pigeon Forge but it was shortly thereafter. Oh to be young and not quite as stupid as back then but still have good time.
Don’t advertise. Put your phone number on windshield and details on dash. Soon people will equate a phone no. With a car for sale.
I was thinking the same sort of thing. Maybe some kind of little flag they could use as a symbol.
Rather than a
FOR SALE sign in the window; maybe put a
DONATION sign in its place. When someone inquires about the vehicle just say the suggested DONATION is (just name your price). Now when the
"Authorities" question anything, just say it's for a charitable cause .
2,000 calls incoming. Better hire a secretary first.
Actually several things could be done, phone number, FS or Ask written somewhere, mix it it up, keep them guessing.
@@candid1954 That would still be advertising.
The problem isnt the rod run its the younger generation. Also Gatlinburg, pigeon Forge, and Sevierville to me might be to blame. The reason i say that is I work in town and to me if for just that weekend only, if they stopped the samples at all distilleries and wineries it would cut back some. They did a study on the amount of alcohol that you can sample is way over the legal limit if your driving or in public
I think it's because the parenting is not all that great nowadays ether. It all starts with teaching your kids how to behave at these event, so they will know better when they become young adults.
It is not the younger generation as a whole. I'm 21. And I am into all types of cars, trucks, bikes, etc. I went down to pigeon forge last year for Slammedenuff. 70% of ppl that are into those type of cars are the younger generation. And there was an issue with that event too. With that being said. The ppl that actually go for the event and to just simply hang out and have fun (which is 98% of us) are there just to do that. So everyone needs to put their big boy pants on and accept the fact that it isn't "tHe nEw gEneRaTiOn " causing the problem. Everyone under 35 gets shit on and pushed away bc the older generation can't wrap their head around the fact that they don't run this world and have to have someone to pick on. The locals hate everyone so grow up and get tf over it
And "it's the parenting" is stupid bc you know what generation is parenting the younger one?... yours. So your hating on your own generation. Which is totally fine by me. I'll be the first to admit I hate my generation. BUT don't act like it's not your generations fault
@@Videos-ek9uq I hate slammedenough they are hateful and disrespectful. The fact that the cops this last year were standing on the street handing out tickets while I was trying to be courteous and tell them to stop is ridiculous. You think we owe you all something coming to our town and doing stupid shit stay the fuck out. I even said it out loud with one of your members and they apologized for it because of the cars in front of us and said not all are like that. Your the one with the attitude which is the ones who need to stay away. I will be the first to watch and see when your out of line and report this year. It is the partying and the drinking causing all our problems
Bingo...devils juice
So the rods sitting for sale along the parkway are causing the problems?? Its the kids that come out at night thats the problem. A lot of buying and selling and trading goes on during these shows. Never been to the LeConte center, mostly because I can see way more cars for free along the parkway. Been coming to this show for over 40 years when it used to be in Gatlinburg. Dont blame the authorities for wanting to crack down on the problems but go to where the problems are. Those kids at night arent the ones spending money for rooms and meals. Cant figure out why they are targeting the ones that arent causing the problems. Be a shame to see this end.
You are exactly right, but there is no common sense with the government. There is always a money angle to their decisions.
That’s right. Also it costs like 15 dollars to get in the event center. Why pay money when I can see everything on the parkway for free!
well there is the KEY WORD "For Sale" so as long as you don't put a for sale sign on it then you will still be able to show and park your car!!! ... as long as they still do rod run then it won't effect me lol !!! thanks for sharing!
IF THE KEEP MESSING WITH FOLKS THEY WILL FIND ANOTHER LOCATION TO HAVE THERE EVENT
That would be awesome 👍😁
One can only hope that they all go away. They're not wanted anymore.
It's the same as Big Bass Tournaments, they want the money but they don't want the fisherman.
Like always I am 70 years young love swap meets and car shows a few bad apples always draws attention, good /evil the people of the state and pigeon forge need to take a stand, big brother government wants to get all the dollars it can ,follow the money ,I live in Texas we have had a a few of these issues ,move the event, action talks along with the MONEY.thanks for sharing GOD bless.
About as bad as the ‘Jeep Invasion’ where Pigeon Forge is overwhelmed by the ‘Jeepsters’ and needs it’s own area instead of ruining a Smoky Mountain vacation for the rest of the vacationers!
Guarantee if the government or city we’re making money off those sales, this would be a none issue.
That's what they want, anyway, absolute control and high taxes, fees, etc. Government planners are never happy with a good amount of revenue that comes in from the businesses that these cars park in front of. Enthusiasts bring money into the state, but now the government has to cultivate even more taxation with ordinances.
I think the excuse is not selling cars but retailers. This area has grown to the point they don't need the Rod Run to fill rooms. What's the difference in a patron of a motel with a for sale sign on his car and a car with a sign going down the road?
Ban the big loud diesel trucks that cause the problems. The young thugs spending rich daddy's money disrespecting everyone and everything. Hot rods and classics only. Not the great big truck show pissing contest.
If TN doesn't want to be nice to hot rodders and 441 is important get a hold of Brad at Northeast GA swap meet he may do a "rod run" Clarkesville GA.
Rod run isnt what it use to be... It has turned to truck meets and this new generation call it. Thes kids, teens with daddys bought truck, go for the partying and cause ruckus in the town. Squated trucks, etc 10yrs ago, it was hot rods, classic cars etc. Past 3yrs, nothing but kids in trucks that mommy and daddy bought squated and has trashed what use to be a car show (classic/hot rods) etc.... but then again, The town will lose money on that side of it..... but i can tell ya, most of this ruckus has started from teens n minors partying....
I live in a small city, just northwest of Chicago, and where I live, it is unlawful to place a FOR SALE sign in any vehicle that is parked on the streets, but not unlawful to place the same sign in any vehicle parked in a homeowner's driveway, or other property with the owner's permission. Do I like these restrictions??? NO, in fact I believe that they are nothing less than legalized invasion of property, and obviously, a revenue generator. As the owner of a vehicle, you do have an expected level of privacy in your vehicle, not as great a level as a homeowner, but it still does exist.I completely understand the issues with the crimes that often come along with events like this, Sturgis being one of the oldest and biggest events like this, is certainly no stranger to crime and other issues.
In Pa where I live, I had to sell my antique truck, which had been in my family since new, because it wasn’t inspected. Backed in my driveway, all complete, saving money for an engine and transmission rebuild. Because someone anonymously complained. All the rich people have motor homes, old cars(some in pieces) business vehicles in their driveways, but that’s ok because they have connections.
The Rod Run has been ruined by kids driving their dads jacked up $150,000 trucks that nobody cares about. First it was black smoking the crowds with their trucks, then it was all the fancy neon lights, now it’s the stupid Carolina squat. Dumb. Let the Hot Rod guys enjoy their show go do your own thing.
This is an example of POLITIANS interfearing with tax paying citizens and sticking their noses into trying control the good people of Tennessee.
It was a horrible existence living and working during these events taking upwards of 3 hours or longer just to get to work on time when I only live 6 miles from work and on top of that I'm not making one extra cent for sitting in all that traffic burning all that extra gas just so a bunch of people can come look at the exact same cars several times a year every year. For these reasons I moved from pigeon forge and never looked back.
I don't blame you at all
I'm right there with you. I absolutely hate all these events.
I used to like the rod run. 35 years ago. It's total crap now. Pigeon Forge is a sad sad materialistic circus of overly entitled consumer freaks. (Change my mind) 😐
That's pretty accurate but we still go
It was like that 35 years ago too. Has been my entire life which is more than 35.
My son and I have been attending this rod run since he was about 3 years old. He will be 22 next rod run in April. WE LOVE IT! We leave our car at the motel and bike it. We had a tandem bike when he was smaller. Putting all the cars for sale in one area is nothing less than a money grab by tax collectors. You can’t stop it and the police aren’t going to enforce it. They are too busy with real crimes.
Just looked it up when you go to the distilleries the cups are the communion cups which hold anywhere from .5 ounce to .75. Ole Smokey alone is about 4-5 ounces sampled at it by the time you leave. Then you have Sugarland, Tennessee Shine, and all the wine tasting so by the time you are done you shouldn't even be out. Gatlinburg alone probably has 13 places you can sample alcohol. This does not include pigeon forge at the old mill or the island.
Y'all should contact the organizers for the Woodward Dream Cruise...we average 1 million cruisers and guests. Big success!!..Band together with the local businesses, put the pressure on the local politicians and let your voice be heard!!
If you live and work here and have to drive to and from work or do any driving with your job you would quickly understand why we can't stand the rod run.
your choice to live in a tourist trap man. I live near Gulfport, MS, home of several such car events, namely Cruisin the Coast, and traffic is terrible, but I live with it, knowing the immense amount of money it brings the area. Plus, Im a car guy, so when Im not able to participate, I can still at least look.
Many thoughts on this one. First, the RRs dates are released well in advance, so I would think locals could plan around it. I live on Florida’s Space Coast and the launch frequency has increased dramatically in the last few years. Launch traffic is horrible in the surrounding towns like Titusville, Cocoa Beach, and Merritt Island. We get used to it and make adjustments accordingly to get to and from the Space Center. As far as the younger truck crowd ruining things, I really hate to make it a generational issue. I will say, I see the same behavior at some local car events and it really makes me wonder. I’m really trying to not be the ‘get off my lawn’ guy. Clearly the local municipalities believe they are losing tax revenue on vehicles sales, but get real, they don’t get it for an out of state internet sale either. There’s a lot of good in Tennessee, but there’s a lot of just plain dumb laws there too. I mean dry counties? This is 2024 for Pete’s sake.
Keep it Classic Cars, as the name implies. Problem solved.
Been going to the rod runs since early 70's in Gatlinburg first, and now Pigeon Forge, and some fans get a little rowdy, but not all, the first one in Gatlinburg we went to, we drove to Pigeon Forge in 74 I believe, it was only a 4 lane highway, not even a place to use the bathroom, these events have made it grow like that, so now they don't want this business, that little show at leconte center, I wouldn't even go there for that, and the motels wouldn't be full, and they couldn't charge 300 plus for one night, so there you go, the truth hurts.
Exactly. You got to know how your bread and butter is at the same time.
Been going when to Gatlinburg when the car show was there and pigeon forge was a collection of corn fields and dolly wood is not going to draw enough people as well as a ferris wheel as far as the shopping centers there all the same there owned by a small group of people and the TINY Show at the over priced leconte center is to small and if the asshats that control pigeon forge going to be in business very long with the newly weddes and the nearly dead who spend very little money. dolly sister has always wanted rid of the car shows and the millions of dollars it generates she believes that people will drive hundreds of miles to shop there .I think that there are several more bigger malls within a hour of any place.
Sales tax, if the vehicles are sold through private sale the state doesn't get their cut. Especially vehicles coming from out of state and going out of state to new owners.
Funny how many times they can tax a vehicle, every time you sell it
Umm don’t you have to pay sales tax when you register the car?
@@shag139 you pay a sales tax when you purchase the vehicle then the registration fee is usually based on the value of the vehicle. The amount of sales at car shows could be in the millions of dollars and due to the fact that sales go through private transactions and not licensed dealers the state would be losing out on a sizable amount of tax revenue.
It's become a nuisance to travel on the parkway during these events. The traffic is gridlock. I say keep it at the Leconte Center.
The government is way too greedy and should let the people be left alone there is no harm in what the rod run does and places would stop getting profits from the rod run and the city would loose out on extra tax dollars going into the economy that helps the state
Never been and had it on my to do list however I will be removing it as it has become just another in our hobby to sooner or later get to many rules or just go away due to a few bad apples !!
I have been to the RR for years. It is sad the younger crowd is messing it up for all of us.
They'll never be able to enforce anything. Even if they try to enforce it, most sellers are willing to pay a $150 fine in order to sell their classic car for $25,000+. They need to separate the Fall Rod Run from the truck show. That is where a lot of the problems come from. We no longer have the Shades of the Past show the following week after the Fall Rod Run, they should push the truck show to that week and see how the alcohol & crime issues shift from one event to the other.
As far as the main show actually including all the cars in the main show or the "For Sale" lot. . . there is 0% chance they can accomodate all the sellers and cars from the strip.
I want to thank you 👍 for pointing out the issue on this. It has nothing to do with the classic car crowd at all. In your video you show lightly who is at fault. Instead of making their own weekend or days to be here the giant truck crowd with huge rims and under body light kits have decided to try to make it theirs. They are an extremely rowdy crowd of young individuals that love their drink and showing off the trucks by "rolling coal" on pretty much any convertible car, by standers on the side of the road, people walking down the sidewalk, any car they decide is political to them like a Tesla, Subaru, Corvette, or mini car. Unfortunately anyone from out of town visiting would not understand this unless you live here or were unfortunate enough to have a run in with the younger more aggressive truck crowd. So now what's the solution? Truckers everyone wants you to have fun and show off your 100k+ lifted beauties and enjoy your moonshine. Schedule your own weekend opposite side of the calendar from the Rod Run like the Jeepers do. The Jeep community grows each year and has no problem enjoying the area respectively during their own week/weekend. They have fun, show off their Jeeps, and then leave. They are very good at coordinating the event. Organize your groups, reach out to the Jeepers, find out how they do it instead of ruining Grandpa's Classic Car week/weekend. Typical classic car owners admire your ride but are not going to like what you do. Also the local police/government/community know what to expect with the crowd and can adjust and be ready for you guys. Come enjoy the Smokies but don't ruin the Smokies they were meant for everyone.
WHEN SOMETHING GOOD HAPPENS FOR THE ECONOMY, THE POWERS TO BE HAS TO STEP IN AND SCREW IT UP!
This is why I STOPPED coming to that AREA COMPLETELY! We bought season passes and and visited that area 3-4 times a year EVERY YEAR!! I SAY PEOPLE NEED TO GET TOGETHER AND MOVE THE SHOW COMPLETELY OUT OF TENN!!!
My opinion based on info in this video. TDOT ( the state) is going to use the excuse of traffic safety and beaufication and such. The truth is probably more in line of missing out on tax revenue since these are person to person sales and not thru licensed dealers that would have to collect taxes.
what if I told you that anytime you go register a vehicle you just bought to get tags, you have to pay taxes on it regardless of the source? Yes of course with P2P sales you can lie on the title about the purchase price, to a degree, but that's the only difference.
I used to go to both every year and there were always a few bad apples messing thigs up.
The current down turn in society and lawless behavior is not the run itself but the kind of people that go there.
I stopped going 10 years ago just because of the traffic and lawless behavior.
Same here. I go for one day now, walk around and then come back home.
It's very expensive to stay in and around PF. Plus, traffic and stupid behavior have made it more of a pain in the butt than fun.
Clear 1st amendment violation. The state cannot restrict what signs I post in my window or write on my car.
Im 68. Seems to me pigeon forge has had a rod run long before the leconte center was built. I never knew there was an official "rod run". Always as a kid thought people started coming some weekends to parade thru Gatlinburg and the spur to Pigeon Forge. My relatives hated the traffic but loved the tips they got those weekends.
How about everybody spend there money somewhere else!!!!!!!!
Yep i really enjoyed the show and cars
The worst is when the event line up with public school (elementary - high school) spring breaks. Families have limited spring vacation options and plan for the week children aren't in School. I don't think families Vaca here for the rod run and it doesn't highlight all that is great with the area. I'm all for Rod Run but I just think it needs to be better scheduled.
Some people like the fact it is on spring break so they can take there kids with them to see the rod run
Very well done.
I don’t know how you guys decide on where the main show gets parking or anything so I know I might not be much help. But with that said we have a huge car show every year in the fall in Gas City Indiana called the Ducktail Run. It brings in a few thousand cars every year and even more spectators to it. What they have is a year restriction to 1972 or older or vehicle must be highly modified to even be able to register to get into it. They have the show at the community park and it’s really nice. I think what they’re able to do with the year restriction is they eliminate most( but not all) the riffraff and trouble makers. Now I’ve seen a few fights break out after dark and is not perfect by no means and the local law enforcement do an excellent job of patrolling and getting a handle on situations. They also patrol outside of the park heavily to keep people under control. They don’t tolerate burnouts and definitely no doughnuts in parking lots. The day they allow the hellcat crowd in will be the last time I attend. I know not all of the bought car guys are all bad but I haven’t been to a open cruise in where I haven’t seen a hellcat, rt, srt , new Camaro, etc so starved for attention leaving sideways sometimes losing control all together and getting into altercations. When I think of a rod and custom show, I’m not thinking of anything with a warranty or blows black smoke that has gps and 24's on it. and they have a specific location in the park for swap meet and cars for sale.
Limit it to antiques. That's 30 years old or older.
The State just wants tax money from the sale. Here in Georgia they call it curb stoning. A business is not allowed to let an individual sell a vehicle on heir business lot unless it is their vehicle. Its not really enforced, but several used car dealers had stickers made up and went around putting them on those cars which led to Police getting involved by the vehicle owner complaining about a sticker on their window. I agree with you, most don't even go put their car in the show, they just come to hang out on the strip. I don't see any issue and you are right. You ae paying overtime to off duty officers to come work the event just for this issue. It is all about the MONEY!
We have been going to the spring and fall rod runs since 1995 . The men would go look at cars and the women would go to the outlet stores and we all get together for supper . Our money was welcomed then but not now 🤔
ive been going since i was a young man and ive never acted like some folks. I hate some folks cant act right. Ill be there this year and will be on my channel. I think the car sale thing is really not a problem idk why the state cares so much.
Does the advertising restriction include commercial vehicles? UPS, Coca Cola, trucks?
According to the video, yes. I feel this law is being misinterpreted, as usual. The law is for the business selling or advertising, not private citizens. The only legal leg I see here is the businesses "selling" parking spots, because that would be a sublease, of the sublease, of the sublease, of the sublease, making the car owner responsible for the law in question.
As far as getting rid of the Rod Run, I guess like Helen, GA, they don't like money. That's 75,000 (twice a year) people spending money that they want to go elsewhere.
This came up years ago. People just started leaving room numbers or business cards in the dash. The way it was before cell phones.
i live in MINN. been down to fall rod run 3 times. The real problem is the diesel trucks after 10 pm till about 3am, I wont go back.
I live near it never knew there was a car show for almost 40 years. Always hit the strip. 😂
Good video ❤ I would imagine most of them. People are paying to park their cars. All the cars have insurance on them. So what difference does it matter? If they put a sign on it on somebody else's property
They need to change the date of the fall run so it doesn't run the same time as the truck show. Years ago it would be classic cars cruising the boulevard. But now it's bumper to bumper jacked up diesel trucks full of kids thinking it's Mardis Gras. Get rid of the trucks and bring back the hot rods.
Suspect people are dodging the car corral fee...and why not. A guy or gal should be able to put a for sale sign on their car wherever it's parked. Screw the money grubbers!
I'm a "Yankee" with a nice collector car. I don't travel below the Mason Dixon Line. There are simply too many shows, too many meets. If there is going to be problems with locals, count me out.
That's funny, I'm a southerner who will not travel north of the Mason-Dixon to any shows if I can avoid it. Too many ill tempered know it all's with attitudes for my tastes.
Plenty of shows down here as well.
One of the main reasons why the state is cracking down on the sale of vehicles along 441 is that the majority of cars sold are sold to people outside the state, meaning that Tennessee loses a tremendous amount of money due to not collecting tax and registration fees on vehicle sales.
I'm glad that somebody has addressed this issue in a public forum. As an area resident who has to travel to work and all the other normal things everyone else does these events are a nightmare for us. The whole area is gridlocked. It can take more than an hour to get from point A to B when normally might take fifteen minutes. Emergency responders can't get to calls. This has got out of control. I've said that a venue should be created to put ALL of these people away from the Parkway. LaConte Center just is not big enough. Rod Run has simply outgrown it years ago. I don't know where this place would be but I wish they would make it and enforce the laws about selling and loitering along the Parkway businesses. To me every single one of those selling cars and sitting watching people drive by are loiterers and furthermore if anyone is going to sell anything outside of LaConte in a public area they need to have a permit to do so. If I was City of Pigeon Forge it would cost a hefty amount to obtain that permit.
Definitely government overreach. As far as law enforcement goes I bet not one officer has a problem with it. The times I've gone law enforcement have always been fair and nice. Not to mention it's an amazing event. If you have never been you definitely need to put it on your bucket list. You won't regret it.
Good thing I’m only going to show my truck and to look at everyone else cars/trucks.
For more leverage perhaps you should enlist the assistance of the business owners along that stretch of road to help negotiate with the lawmakers to get that restriction lifted.
🎉Carry on love it 😊
I dont believe the state has any jurisdiction when it comes to private property. It sounds like they are trying to take authority where they do not have any. All those businesses along the parkway are private and so is the parking lots.
@@jamesthev5607100%
Sorry, all those directly off the Parkway are property of the state and not private. That's why there has been such an issue with getting stuff done. Local LEO's have no authority. It requires a State Trooper.
@@LoneWolfeServices The state has a certain footage of right away along the roads. They do not own the businesses parking lots. Those are private property.
@fireman1780 Not the ones just off the Parkway. Those are on the state ROW and leased back to the City. I was told that by several officers from PFPD I've lived here 20 yrs and saw the direction ithiswas headed and questioned why. Most of your restaurants hate to see it come because they lose sales to a lot of people because you can't get there to eat and the cars parked in front are not on their property so they cat tow them, and the people who sit with the cars don't purchase anything from them.
They may be private but they still have to get a business license to operate. If it causes a safety issue it doesn't matter if it is private property.
I haven't been in years. It has been more just lifted trucks and the stupid ass Squatted trucks then classic cars
So sad won’t be spending there !
Yeah, if you’ve ever been to the rod run at night, you can understand why the city and state keep trying to tone it down some, it’s a complete shit show. I go in the daytime on Saturday and high tail it out of there once the sun starts going down, nothing good happens after dark
That can be said about any tourist trap town.
Business owners I have spoken to say the rod runs actually hurts their business. They said the rod run folks do not spend as much as the regular tourists. I would imagine they are the ones that filed the complaint that got the State involved.
