    Thank you so much for guides like this. I was lost trying to figure out how to get started mining and used your dolphin guide, which was a wonderful ship and served me very well. Within a few short play sessions I earned enough to build this beauty and used it for the first time last night. I was out there cracking asteroids in no time. I still have a lot to learn when it comes to mining, and elite dangerous in general, but your guides have helped me immensely. Thanks for all you do for the community and keep up the good work!

    absolutely love the core mining. It brought me back to the game and finally have an anaconda. Used it to grind for clipper as the additional speed and maneuverability really helps with core mining (no engineering). I would find a system that has good opal reserves and only ever mine there. When cargo is full just find nearest selling location (usually around 60-70ly). Doing this allows you to spend more time breaking and mining asteroids than searching for them. And saves you the time of having to find a good location and easier to do for just 1h till you get bored. 6a shield with 2 cargo 5a fuel and 2x 3a collector is what i found most convenient 3 limpets are to slow for me.
    Hope more changes will be made to make the core game play loops fun in the game.

      This is how I make my bucks now. The only thing I do differently is prioritize jump range in my build. I have used an Asp X for most of my mining career for that very reason. With that greater jump range you can head over to a max selling station and double your profit with little loss in travel time. In fact it's easy enough to find a suitable mining spot near a max selling station, making profits even higher. Before I got bored of that process I was making 85 million every two hours.

    • @someonespotatohmm9513
      @someonespotatohmm9513 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@sam23696 I found finding a spot/mining to take up 80% of the time. best or second best selling spot has not been >70ly away. To me the max 15 min travel time is worth guaranteeing a full cargo bay in 1 hour. Before it took me between 2.5 or 3.5 hours.

    If you're doing core mining, this is fine. Otherwise, take your standard trading python, and put a 3A refinery, 3B limpet controller, 4D shield, and 2 class 2 fixed mining lasers on it. Boom, instant mining python and you can still carry 256t of cargo shielded. It won't give you profitable mining, but for use in CGs or even basic mining missions, it's more than adequate.
    In my case, I have turreted incendiary MCs in the class 3 slots for defense and the class 4 shield is enough to survive 2 good hits while I jump out. You really don't need those class 2 weapon slots or the whopping 30t of cargo anyway, and when the mission boards decide to be super-stingy, it's nice to be able to go mine a rock for 20 minutes without switching ships.

    Since the April 2019 update added a class-1 utility slot to the Python for the new supercruise assist module, I've modified the "with weapons" build to replace the SAM with the DSS and to mount a 2G planetary vehicle hangar. The ship's a little heavier, but I like being able to take surface operations missions in addition to the combat and courier jobs.

      Mining is fun but nerfed a bunch. The Python doesn't suffer from that too much tho, esp. if you, lets say just take 128t of cargo, bigger scoop and maybe a fsd booster to get some jump range back on the monstrosity that this is.

      Improved how? That's the issue I brought up once when somebody was discussing dedicated mining ships. What would mining specific engineering upgrades give you? The way mining works is very basic in terms of ship modules, it's not like you need more bins in your refinery. They would either need to change mining _again_ , which is unlikely, or they would make the upgrades change something unnecessary like more leeway with seismic charges and fissure strength or even more bins in your refinery you wont use.
      Although while typing this out I did think of one idea that is legitimately interesting. What about specialized cargo modules? Engineering upgrades that allow you to engineer cargo modules to be "more space efficient" with ores, allowing a 64 capacity cargo module to have 20% capacity for ores or something.

    This non-engineered build favors a larger shield generator over a 2nd collector limpet controller. I'm assuming that you feel the shield on the non-engineered build is more important than the speed of having additional active collector limpets. However, I'm curious why you dropped the 3 mining lasers as I can add them back in for nominal cost and don't even need to upgrade the power plant as long as I keep them powered off when using the abrasion blaster and seismic charge launcher (and vice versa when using the mining lasers). This gives the build the flexibility of the dual-purpose build back and I'm having problems figuring out the downside since the hit on jump range is fairly minimal and as Jump Drive is one of the first things you can Engineer up to level 5 not a significant reason. What am I missing?

    you don't need a mining python, two trips in a asp explorer with 96 cargo space of void opal will net you the same as one trip in a python, anyway the python wont be as nimble around asteroid as the asp explorer, plus if your ship get destroyed by pirates, the python is going to cost you more to rebuy back then the asp explorer, so its up to the player which one to pick.

    Just on my way to Colonia for the first time in my asp explorer, I haven't bothered with engineering as I have no idea what i'm doing there (returning player) and I wanted to do some mining when I get there in a bit more capable ship rather than a sluggish merch vessel, I have around 250mil in the bank + my 35mil-ish cost asp explorer (but I think I will leave that alone and not scrap it for parts when I get there, not sure what the availability of parts is there)

    i don't know if its just me but when i try core mining i lose a lot of time looking for the specific asteroids and mining them.. i still can't find them very easily. the mining i found easier and also is rentable is painite mining - we just need mining lasers and nothing else -- no wave scanner required -- just do all the asteroids and dispose of what we dont want to take -- in 20 minutes i can get around 50~80M .. just mentioned this because we can take more cargo and collector limpets and still keep both the flight assistance and docking for the people starting the game
